14) Which demon is most frightening to them?

Despair because of what it represents. It would be so easy to give in to it, and accept that the world is cruel and messy and nothing will ever come easy for her, so why should she put in the effort to save it? There were many times where Despair could have won: before the conclave, when she struggled with choosing her love for Maleus and her love for her clan, ultimately choosing the clan and a future bond with a man she could never love; waking up a prisoner for a crime she didn’t remember committing; losing Haven; deciding who lived and died at the Winter Palace; and countless other instances. What kept her from succumbing were her dear friends trying so hard to keep her spirits up and her unwavering sense of duty to the People and the people of Thedas.

25) What is their favourite place within playable regions?

The Emerald Graves. She’s aware of its sordid past with the Exalted March, but she feels a deep connection with the People there. And to see such a beautiful forest rise from the ashes and ruin fills her with some hope.

7) Who is your inquisitor’s best friend?

I’m keeping it to canon characters for simplicity’s sake. His best friend is Vivienne! It wasn’t an easy friendship at first because of their differing opinions on sensitive subjects, but Tamralan grew to appreciate her candor and have found their debates insightful. Vivienne is steadfast in her beliefs but its not ignorant or overly dismissive of outside perspectives - Tamralan is as well, but knows to not take it personally and remain respectful of their differences. And Tamralan always takes her opinion into consideration in difficult decisions.

15) Did they choose the qun or the Chargers in iron bull’s personal quest? Why?

He chose the Chargers because Tamralan knows the importance of found family and that what “your people” says is right, isn’t always right. Bull also said himself that he had been away from home for most of his life, and it’s plain as day that he loves his squad. He couldn’t sacrifice Bull’s family for an alliance that would most likely dissolve after Corypheus is dead. But the Chargers? Bull and his Chargers will live on long after their services are up.

17) How do they feel about the mark/the anchor?

It’s a burden he wished daily he didn’t have, but at the same time, even if he could hand it over to someone else (pun intended), he wouldn’t because he wouldn’t trust anyone else to get the job done right. It bothers him that he’s only alive because of the anchor, for they would have hung him for a crime he didn’t remember committing, or, as he later learned, obliterated by the explosion.

34) What was their reaction to the destruction of Haven?

After the dust settled so to speak, he felt an overwhelming amount of guilt. He was constantly irritable and snapped at people with little provocation. When alone though, he cried and cried and cried. He went over everything in his head, trying to find the signs and believing he should have done more, that it was all preventable. He saved so many lives but there were more who perished and he felt all that weight on his heart.

Or they don’t care and not spare my life asecond glance.” “What do you think then about what you’ve done?”“Answering my question with another question, I see.” She laughed. “I willadmit that at first, I was scared I was doing everything wrong too.” She lookedat her feet, idly kicking her heels against the wall. “The clan was my wholelife, you know. I did everything for them, and I was made to feel bad forwanting something precious for myself.” She sighed. “Like, I know what I’vedone was no small thing, but I was willing to compromise for them. I thought itwas a good compromise, too. I’d have stayed, bonded, have babies with whoever,if they’d let me love Mal, but they didn’t.”Thelrand frowned. “I remember how miserable you were.”“I was miserable, especially after I chose the clan over Mal.” She looked to himand smiled. “But I chose to escape, to come here, and even though it’s certainI’m not welcome back home, I wouldn’t change what I’ve done. And when I thinkabout whose standard I was judging my life on, I became so much happier when Iwanted it to be my own. I am doing everything right because I say I am. BecauseI am happy. Because I have little regret.”He couldn’t help but smile. Sylathi had grown so much and was the happiest hehad seen her in a long time. “I don’t think you’ve told me exactly what madeyou leave. You were miserable long before you did.”Her smile was wistful. “Avira and Papae. I guess you, too. You all were always mybiggest supporters. After Avi left, I was more lost than ever, and I wanted togive up fighting and just to go through with everything to keep the peace. Oneof the last things she said to me was that my life was at a crossroads and thatchoosing a different path wouldn’t change who I am or what I’ve accomplished.That being Keeper wasn’t the only way I could do good in the world.”She wiped her eyes. “And Papae.. he didn’t say much. He just held me in hislap, petting my hair like I was a little girl again. He said, ‘Da’lath, I justwant you to be happy. There is little worth living for if you’re not happy.’” Shesnorted and wiped her eyes again. “Damnit, Thel. It was supposed to be youopening up, not me.”Thelrand chuckled and placed a hand on her cheek as he kissed her temple. “Toanswer your question, I guess the standards are my own. I keep doubtingeverything I do because I don’t know if I’m happy with what I’ve done.”She laced her fingers with his before he could pull away. “Do you want to talkabout it?”After a moment, he shook his head. She wasn’t the right person to talk aboutit, though he didn’t know who the right person at all was. “No, I don’t, butyou’ve given me a lot to think about.”Sylathi pulled him closer to give him a tight hug. “Good. I want you to behappy, too.”He rested his cheek on her head and chewed on his lip. He knew he could pinpointat what point he lost that happiness, but he wouldn’t admit it just yet, noteven to himself. “Someday I will be.”

Thank you for the asks!

1) What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?

Thelrand: He had to be male. He was my first male Inquisitor.

Sylathi: She was a female elf.

Tamralan: He’s Sylathi’s father.

2) Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?

Thelrand: Yes, I created him with the full intention of romancing Dorian Pavus.

Sylathi: Yes, I created her to romance Solas again with a character that made decisions true to her character and not just my curiosity of what would happen.

Tamralan: Of course, Sylathi, since she needed a father for her Tragic BackstoryTM. (He’s alive and well now, but that wasn’t initially the case!) 

3) How did you choose their name?

Thelrand: I used the well known Fantasy Name Generator. I don’t think Thelrand was the exact name, but it was close enough and I liked it. I had it roughly translated at some point from elvhen using parts of the name, but I can’t remember.

Sylathi: I knew she would be in tuned with her clan and with nature and thought of ‘sylvan” which means consisted of or associated with woods. For a Dalish elf, I felt it was fitting. I took the base of the word and didn’t want to use Sylvia or Sylvie, so played around with sounds until I came up with Sylathi. If you break down the sounds of her name, it can be translated to “breath of love” and I think that’s the best coincidence that ever happened.

Tamralan: I used the same name generator as Thelrand’s. I also really like names that start with ‘T.”

5) Is there any significance behind their hair color?

Thelrand: Not at first. I was just getting into the fandom on tumblr and saw some really beautiful white haired elves, and wanted a piece of that. Later on, I worked it into his backstory. White hair runs on his mother’s side of the family and signifies that he’s a direct descendant of the Emerald Knight Vaharel in the Vaharel clan where he was born. It’s also a constant reminder that despite of having mage parents, he would never manifest. It was almost black as a child before he hit puberty and it quickly turned white.

Sylathi: It was a color other than blonde. She was originally blonde and it wasn’t fitting.

Tamralan: Well his face claim, Luke Pasqualino has dark hair, it would make sense he does, too.

7) Is there any significance behind their height?

Thelrand: Elves are canonically short, and I wanted Thel to be on the taller side at 5′9″, but not stupid tall.

Sylathi: She’s 5′5″ and she’s just a smol bab. No real significance.

Emralan: He’s 5′6″ and just another smol bab.

16) What is something about your OC can make you cry?

Tamralan: Tam hasn’t made me cry yet, but I’m always touched by how deep his compassion is. He wants to help everyone and give everything to make sure they’re taken care of, even at the expense of his own well being. He has lost a lot, but never lets that stop him from spreading love and kindness to everyone he meets. He would literally die for those he loves, and sometimes that’s a dangerous thing.

17) Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?

Thelrand: The one thing that immediately comes to mind is his high sex drive. I feel like sometimes it’s flanderized to a point with memes and jokes about him being a slut (and the occasional monsterfucker) like that it’s his defining personality and it’s not. There’s so much more to him than that. He’s kind, and loyal, and protective, and sometimes controlling and intense and vain. And I worry that I, while also bi, am perpetuating harmful stereotypes about bisexual people that they’re sex crazed and will fuck everyone. I realize that regardless of his sexuality, he would still have the high sex drive, but still.

On the flip side, I wouldn’t go back and change it, because I do love all the UST and the relationships he formed (Katsu, Bull) because he’s an insatiable bastard.

18) What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?

I got this twice for Tamralan so you get two facts!

Tamralan hates the cold and seeks out heat like a cat. He wears all the layers and hates and looks like grumpy marshmallow.

He also loves apples! They are his favorite food, especially those from his favorite merchant to trade with, Rémy!

19) What is your favorite fact about your OC? 

Sylathi: There are many things that I love about her, so this is so hard. To keep it SFW, my favorite fact is that she has a phobia of birds. I love it. It’s so random and ironic since she loves every other creature.

How I feel about this character

He is my favorite character to write and he wasn’t supposed to be! I created him just to try out Dorian’s romance and he started off in a cameo in a rp just to push the crack eluvian plot. But he’s grown so much and writing him, no matter what’s going on, as been a huge source of joy for me. And there’s still so much story ahead of him that I can’t wait to discover.

The dad I wish I had. He is an incredibly warm and kind being who always puts others’ needs above his own. Felron Lavellan. Felron was arranged to bond with Sylathi unbeknownst to her and she was really hurt by it because she didn’t know if his feelings towards her were genuine. It was also a plot to turn her head from her human lover which didn’t help either. But alas, she was attracted to him physically.

I’ve decided to answer for Sylathi!

13) How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?

In my canon world state with @lavellanlove, we have quite a bit of story beyond the events of Trespasser. Regardless if Avira keeps or disbands the Inquisition Sylathi and her fiance, Maleus, retire as ambassadors for the Inquisition and devote their time to travel (this time for pleasure instead of business), exploring the parts of Thedas she could only dream of as a girl in the clan. It doesn’t matter where as long as her love is at her side. There is a wedding planned somewhere along the way, though I haven’t thought of the specifics for that yet.

While traveling, she does fall pregnant with her first child, Marcello, and when it becomes too much for her, they return to Maleus’ state in Rivain where they do eventually deal with threats from his father, Ianto Abano, the “Talon,“ and "Terror of Llomerryn.” While pregnant, Sylathi single-handedly dispatched a group of men while she was home alone. And the threats continued even until she had her second child, Miha, at which point, her father, Tamralan, decided to deal with the threat. Spoiler alert:

And his name rhymes with cilantro.

Sylathi does end up with three children total, with Manaleo coming in as the youngest boy.

14) If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?

She likes animals more than she likes people. Except birds. She is terrified of them

Sometimes she has to be reminded that she is allowed to put her own needs and priorities before others.

14. Biggest regret:

Definitely not being able to protect more of his clan when they were slaughtered by the Templars, even more so his late bondmate. He should been stronger, faster, smarter. He should have urged her to take their daughter and run instead of the other way around. He lost too many friends and family that day and would have done anything to go back and give them all a fighting chance.

He doesn’t let this regret weigh too heavily on his heart and accepted that even if he could go back, not much would change, or that he could be dead too along with his bondmate, leaving Sylathi orphaned. In the aftermath, he realized he had to be there for her and has done everything he could to be the best father for her he could be.

18. Biggest insecurity:

Oh this is pretty hard. I guess, her biggest insecurity is that she feels she isn’t good enough for people she deeply cares about, or that their affections aren’t genuine. I kinda thing Maraas and Sylathi would get along, largely because their personalities compliment each other quite a bit! Maraas is pretty chill and has a habit of standing up for people who seem like they need a hand without making it obvious that he's doing it. He's a loyal, encouraging guy, if a bit on the lazy-side. Plus he is so used to hanging around jaded mercenaries that someone like Sylathi would be a breath of fresh air!

Sylathi would be wary of him at first because he’s a Qunari. She wouldn’t, by any means, go out of her way to be rude to him or make him feel unwelcome. She’s just had very minimal interaction with Qunari in general (she’s not a fan of The Iron Bull) and Maraas’ size would intimidate her quite a bit.

After first impressions, I do see her warming up to him, especially because of his calm nature and easy going smile. I can see them unwinding after a long day and just talk to each other, talking through personal problems and offer unique perspectives that they may not get otherwise: hers being brighter and more optimistic and his encouraging and reassuring that not everything is as complicated as she makes it to be.He also has long gorgeous hair. As long as Sylathi can braid flowers through it, I think their friendship will flourish. ;)
