You know what's one little press tour moment we never talk about even though it's Michael being SUPER loud about his obsession with David's body again? The Most Likely game Michael and David played with Neil and John for Prime. We're 43 seconds into the video and Michael says "David keeps his cards very close... to his sylphe like chest". Why not just say chest. What the fuck haha. I also love how everyone just decides to politely ignore that comment, because it's so weird to go there, like, all right Michael, calm down. It's so extra and it's such a Michael thing to say and it comes out with so much conviction and I think it's hilarious. Especially with the man he's aggressively comparing to some sort of fairy sitting right next to him. (Sylph: "A slender graceful girl or young woman"/"an elemental spirit of the air". Okay then lmao, I mean, you can't exactly say that it doesn't somehow fit, but it's so oddly specific --)

Anon, I almost choked when I read this message, because I damn near completely forgot Michael said that (and thank you for including a link and timestamp!). Here’s a gif of the moment, which is just truly jaw-dropping (but I encourage everyone to watch the video as well for the full effect):

Everything you said is so accurate, too, because it’s not just what Michael says here, but the way he said it. He practically hisses/growls out the word “sylph,” with a mix of that carnal aggression you mentioned and a sort of...(barely) concealed possessiveness. And it is, indeed, an incredibly specific descriptor, with connotations about David’s physique that seem far more intimate than what people who are “just friends” would know about each other.

It’s also that "sylph” not only fits, but speaks to Michael thinking about David’s body and studying it long enough to have arrived at that description. And we know that he has, because one year later, Michael referred to David’s hips as being “slinky”:

So there is most definitely an established pattern of Michael being loud about his obsession with David’s body (as you so perfectly put it, Anon). There is also something inherently erotic about discussing someone’s hips, and using the word “sylph”, especially for a man (in my opinion). These particular observations demand a purposeful gaze--that is, something more than just what you would see when someone is wearing clothes.

Does this mean Michael has seen David’s naked chest, his bare hips? I would venture a guess that the answer is yes...and not just in passing, or while getting into costume during filming. It’s the sensuality of the way Michael talks, as if he has personally explored every inch of David’s sylph-like chest and slinky hips with his hands, his lips...his everything.

(Also, the question that preceded all of this was “Who is better at keeping secrets under wraps?” and David votes for himself and says “I’ve been doing secrets for a number of years now” and then comes the freaking hilarious irony of Michael saying what he did. Thank god ONE of them is good at keeping secrets...)

But yes, I love Neil and Jon just tastefully ignoring the comment and continuing on with the interview. Even though David doesn’t let his reaction show on his face, I love that he and Michael are sitting hip-to-hip (in contrast to the clearly visible space between David and Jon Hamm), and I think that says more than any words ever could.

Thank you again for bringing this up, Anon. I’m so glad we got to revisit this delightful moment. Hopefully there will be lots more to come on the GO 2 press tour. If Michael has his way, I think we will...

Oh my lordy.

Hi there! First let me apologize for my egregious dereliction of duty when it comes to answering these Asks/Anons. RL stuff has been clogging up my brain and so I just haven't been in the right headspace for answering questions (hence why I temporarily shut off Asks altogether).

To your question, I did indeed see that clip! I think there were SO many interviews happening that day that this somehow passed us all by, but it absolutely is worth talking about...

For those who may be wondering about the subtext here, "nerve curve" (in anatomical terms) generally refers to something related to the curve of the spine. What Michael (shamelessly) seems to be alluding to, then, is him seeing David's bare back.

I mean...good lord. This marks at least the third occasion where Michael has publicly talked about/thirsted over David's body ("slinky hips" twice, and also "sylph-like chest") in the last four years. Whatever filter exists in most human brains clearly does not exist in his, and I suppose we can be thankful for that, but also...wow, Michael.

The truly amazing thing, however, is this wasn't even the only sexual innuendo related to David that Michael made that day, as there was also this gem:

I sometimes wonder how long Michael is going to have to "joke" about him seeing David naked or him having sex with David before people finally pause and go, "Wait a minute..." And the nerve curve moment is so delicious because we can see David actually blushing after Michael says he saw it. They're both so drunk on each other and it is truly gorgeous to watch.

And as much as we miss Michael and David, I don't think it even holds a candle to how much they must miss each other. I can only hope that the studios will get their heads out of their collective asses and come to an agreement with SAG/WGA to end the strikes, because I so thoroughly want more of whatever this is to grace our screens. My whole thing in defense of the D/M shipping is that THEY are the ones calling each other "lover", "wife", and been married. They slip into first person pronouns, instead of character names. They're the ones making lovey dovey faces and leaning into each other's personal space. They're talking admiringly about "sylph-like" chests and "slinky" hips. They're not unaware of how these things come across. They could control what they say and do. They could have PR make sure the stuff doesn't get out. But they don't.

Same for the partners, they could have PR clean things up. They could make sure D/M aren't portrayed a certain way. But they feed into it. I have no reason to believe they haven't given their blessing.

If the people involved are okay with us hearing/seeing/reading these things, why can't we repeat them?

Michael decided to say David is very easy to fall in love with.

Michael decided to call David his lover.

Michael decided to talk about David’s body over and over again, stare at him in love and awe, talk in first person also over and over again so it wasn’t an unfortunate slip, he also gave these and more:

For years and years he kept on letting people know that he loves David. If at any point David or the partners were uncomfortable, he would have stopped. But years later not only he did not stop, he increased making the point and this time David joined him a lot less subtly than before.

Even NG is in on it with how he keeps on letting people know what he thinks about them, damn he even posted a whole thing about going to Writer’s Heaven for bringing them together.

When Michael and David were separated because of Covid they ended up playing their own love story on Staged.

It is Michael and David who keep on talking about each other in awe. It was Michael and David who got so close that when one is on stage and another in the audience, it’s like nobody else is in the room.

It was Michael who let people know that when his baby was born he went on a spree of watching everything David was in.

It was Michael who said he loves David repeatedly.

It was Michael who called David/Crowley Thin Dark Duke and now David is rocking Red Carpets in Thin Dark Duke outfits cocking that eyebrow.

It was David who didn’t care about the DILF list until he heard Michael’s name.

It was David who said he should have married Michael.

It was David who ran into Michael’s arms when he presented the award to him and then they were together on the red carpet beaming the brightest.

It’s the two of them that look at each other with so much love and adoration.

It’s people around them who call them “handsome couple” and talk about their chemistry and how they make such a good couple.

There has been so many things about the two of them that it’s overwhelming trying to remember it all to mention it.

So certain people acting like Michael and David would be horrified and offended that people think there’s something between them… please.

Is there any consensus or speculation on whether D & M have been intimate? I've always gotten the sense that they have and their wives know about it. Having worked in the film industry for a decade, I have witnessed these open secrets first hand. And a little part of me hopes these 2 have 'connected' in a physical way.

Hi there! Well, you've very much come to the right place. Haha. My blog has pretty much been speculation galore for the past four years as to whether David and Michael have been intimate. My #ineffable lovers tag is probably the broadest in terms of my thoughts on Michael and David potentially being together (said tag originated from Michael calling David his lover in 2019, and I basically haven't been able to not think that they've hooked up ever since). For something more specific, you may want to check out my timeline of the polyamorous dynamic between Michael, David, and Georgia and how this has evolved over the past few years to strongly suggest that such an arrangement is, in fact, in place.

One tiny point of clarification, however, because you will notice that Anna is not included in the timeline post, and I keep seeing people make this assumption and it's slowly driving me crazy: Michael is not married. Anna is his girlfriend, but they are not married and never have been. So to your point of her knowing about it, I fully believe that is the case, but that the dynamic with her, Michael, and David is vastly different (and not nearly as amiable) as the one with Michael, David, and Georgia.

I am intrigued by your mention of working in the film industry, and of witnessing similar 'open secrets' in action. I have also strongly had the vibe of whatever is between Michael and David being an open secret, especially given how often they keep popping up on each other's television appearances and how mentioning one when the other isn't there seems to be a repeated and deliberate occurrence. So I would certainly be interested to hear any other insights you might have in this particular area, if you're at all inclined to share.

But to your last sentence...boy, am I with you there. Obviously, there are all kinds of relationships and dynamics and not everything has to necessarily be sexual, but there is such an incredible component of physical attraction to whatever is between Michael and David that it seems nearly impossible to think they wouldn't have connected in that way by now. There's also the fact that we know they have kissed on screen, but the evidence of their off-screen attraction is plentiful: Michael calling David's hips slinky (twice), talking about David's "sylph-like" chest, calling David the "thin dark Duke" and how he made the decision to touch his chest in a scene in GO 2, David putting his arm around Michael, David leaning/melting into Michael when Michael had his arm around David's waist...it just goes on and on.

So yes, I have speculated greatly about all of this for some time now, and it seems that recently a lot of other folks are starting to see that there is something special between Michael and David and asking questions of their own. Glad to have you here on my blog to keep the conversation going!
