About Sea of Okhotsk, facts and maps
Tumblr media
The Sea of Okhotsk is one of the world's richest in biological resources, with various kinds of fish, shellfish and crabs. The harsh conditions of crab fishing in the Sea of Okhotsk is the subject of the most famous novel of the Japanese writer Takiji Kobayashi, The Crab Cannery Ship (1929). Sea of Okhotsk, Russian Okhotskoye More, or Ochotskoje More, northwestern arm of the Pacific Ocean, bounded on the west and north by the east coast of Asia from Cape Lazarev to the mouth of the Penzhina River, on the east and southeast by the Kamchatka Peninsula and the Kuril Islands, on the south by the northern coast . The Sea of Okhotsk is at the same latitude as the Gulf of Alaska, but unlike the Gulf, the sea freezes between October and March. Fresh water from rivers like the Amur dilutes the relatively shallow, salty sea and raises the temperature at which ice can form. The Okhotsk Subprefecture is located in the northeastern part of Japan's northernmost island Hokkaido. The area faces the Sea of Okhotsk that is part of the Pacific Ocean. Besides East Hokkaido, the Sea of Okhotsk has shoreline with mainland Russia, Kamchatka Peninsula, Sakhalin and Kuril islands.

What language is Okhotsk? The Okhotsk are one of the ancestral components of the Ainu people and probably contributed the Ainu languages and significant cultural elements. Abstract. The enclave of international waters in the central Sea of Okhotsk, called the "peanut hole," is surrounded by the 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone ("EEZ") of the Russian Federation. What animals live in the Sea of Okhotsk? Life in the Okhotsk includes fish such as capelin, cod, flounder, herring, pollack and salmon. Crayfish, sea mussels, sea urchins, polyps, and shrimp are found alongside the Golden king crab, Steller's sea lion, Northern fur seal, Dall's porpoise, Orcas, and Ribbon seals. What fish are in the Sea of Okhotsk? The major fisheries in the eastern Okhotsk Sea are for walleye pollock, flatfish, halibut, and Pacific cod. Walleye pollock accounts for the largest portion of the total catch, with an assessed biomass being 74% of the total fish biomass, averaged for 1999-2001. What is the Okhotsk water current? Oyashio (親潮, "Parental Tide"), also known as Oya Siwo, Okhotsk or the Kurile current, is a cold subarctic ocean current that flows south and circulates counterclockwise in the western North Pacific Ocean. Which country surrounds most of the Sea of Okhotsk? More than 95% of the coast of the Sea lies within Russian territory, with Hokkaido Island (Japan) accounting for the remainder. What ocean is the Sea of Okhotsk in? Sea of Okhotsk, Arm of the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Bounded by the Siberian coast, the Kamchatka Peninsula and the Kuril Islands, Hokkaido, and Sakhalin Island, it covers 611,000 sq mi (1,580,000 sq km). It connects the ports of the Russian Far East. What is surrounded by the Sea of Okhotsk? These waters off the four northern islands constitute the southern side of a highly enclosed sea surrounded by the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, and Hokkaido. Who owns the Sea of Okhotsk? Practically all of the sea's islands are either in coastal waters or belong to the various islands making up the Kuril Islands chain. These fall either under undisputed Japanese or Russian ownership or disputed ownership between Japan and Russia. Why is the Sea of Okhotsk important? The Sea of Okhotsk is one of the most biologically productive of the world's seas. The river drainage, the intense intermingling of waters by straits and wind, and the upwelling of deep, nutrient-laden ocean waters are all favourable to marine life. Read the full article

heart for brains
Fandom: Bungou to Alchemist
Characters/Pairings: Takiji, Naoya, Musha; Takiji/Musha/Naoya
Genre: Fluff
Rating: PG
Summary: Takiji goes overboard with his gift for Musha's birthday.
By nature, Takiji is someone who wants to spoil his boyfriends, especially on their birthdays.  He doesn’t spend extravagant amounts of money on them - he wouldn’t even if he had extravagant amounts of money - but he wants to make sure they feel loved and appreciated.
He can’t do that on Naoya’s birthday.  Through some cruel twist of fate, Takiji was killed on that exact day, and now he finds it hard to do much but tug his hoodie closer around him and hide in his room whenever the twentieth of February rolls around.  Naoya understands; Takiji is grateful and buys flowers for him the following day.
When Musha’s birthday arrives a few months later, Takiji overcompensates a little.  Of course he’d want to treat Musha well for his own sake, even without considering Naoya in the equation.  It isn’t as though he’s spending much money, so it can’t be going overboard, can it?  Besides, Musha likes to spoil him too, so it’s only fair.
No one’s ever said that Takiji couldn’t pick all the flowers from the courtyard, and he knows for a fact that Musha loves flowers, so clearly an appropriate birthday gift is to cover his room in personally arranged flower bouquets while Musha’s out.  It’s not quite the right season for camellias, which he knows Musha likes, but there are plenty of sunflowers, lilies, and peonies - not to mention the roses.
It takes a few hours to pick all those flowers, wash the dirt off them, arrange them attractively, and then sneak into Musha’s room to cover the place wall to wall.  Luckily he knows that Musha is out with Arishima at the moment, and Naoya is cooking an elaborate dinner so he won’t interrupt-
“Think you’ve got enough flowers there, Takiji?”
Takiji jolts and whirls around.  He must have been incredibly focused on arranging the flowers if he missed Naoya opening the door: normally he’s almost impossible to sneak up on.  “I thought you were cooking.”
“I was, but there’s another half hour before the main dish comes out of the oven and I’ve finished everything else.”  Naoya gives the flower-covered room a once over.  “Did you buy all these?”
“I picked them from the courtyard.”  Takiji doesn’t even want to think about how much this number of flowers would have cost.  Today is not a day to get worked up over the excesses of capitalism.
Naoya whistles.  “How long did it take you to get all this together?”
Takiji shrugs.  He doesn’t remember exactly how long, and he didn’t put in the effort with the expectation of praise.  That isn’t the point of doing this.
“Well, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  It’s just like you to put your all into something you care about.”
Takiji’s about to answer Naoya, probably by deflecting the conversation onto Naoya’s gift, when he hears quick, light footsteps that he could recognize anywhere.
“Who are you talking to, Shiga?”  Musha peeks around from behind Naoya’s back, then gasps and pushes past him to get a better look.  “There’s so many, it’s amazing…!  Thank you, Takiji, thank you thank you thank you!”  He practically tackles Takiji in a hug, smiling against Takiji’s shoulder.
Takiji smiles back and whispers, “Happy birthday.”
That expression of sheer delight when Musha first saw the flowers: that’s the point.
