As always I'm like, a gazillion years late with this but I published 2 new translations on my blog. Tanahashi becoming NJPW president reminded me of the closing quote in an interview he did in 2014 about Nakamura, and Okada leaving NJPW made me think about this joint interview he had with Nakamura when he was still finding his footing as the rainmaker. there is a part where the interviewer calls them the "chosen ones" (a title that had often been applied to Nakamura, and would afterward often be applied to Okada), and that always stuck with me.
(This is "the other side" of the photo book the questionnaires of which floated around on this site like a decade ago or so, but I didn't get around to finishing the translations of everything until now. Below is the "A side" with Tanahashi and Ibushi that I published last year.)
The fourth and final part of my guide to the G1 Climax! Cutting it a bit fine with less than 12 hours to go until the start of the G1, but going right up to the time limit seems in the spirit of the season somehow...
Before I go any further though, I have a correction to make. In my initial intro I said that the top scorer in each block would go through, but apparently it's the top two scorers going through this year! (Like they did in this year's BoSJ) Then there'll be quarter finals before the semis. I usually hate any kind of change because it's scary and weird, but I actually think this'll make things even more exciting! It means some more complicated maths, but it does open up the possibilities quite a bit!
And... that's it! That's every wrestler in the G1! Check out the other three parts if you haven't already. Thanks for reading and for all your lovely comments! It's been a blast to do this again, and has made me so happy to see people enjoying it and finding it useful. If you're new to NJPW and still have any questions, shoot me an ask and I'll do my best to answer! And feel free to let me know how you get on with the G1 if you do decide to watch! I always love talking wrestling!
Anyway, happy G1 everyone! May the best man (Toru Yano) win!
