holy moly i am not good

#ive been sick for like a week now. and i think ive been sick for so long because i had covid + work stress so im not recovering as fast #and i have a really big meeting at work tomorrow #that im supposed to be in charge of…….and i uhhhh do Not feel prepared #and i was supposed to do pre work this weekend……but i said f that and actually kinda relaxed on my holiday break #so now i have to scramble tomorrow lol. and hopefully run through it with my manager beforehand?? #tough to really care at all when im already one foot out the door at this place lol #and i thiiiiiink my 15 year old dog is gonna get put down probably after the holidays #he has a big lump on his neck……no test results yet but it’s grown really fast so like. that cant be anything good #and idk i obviously know hes really old and his health has been declining and this winter will be really tough on him #but omg it does not make it easierrrrrr…….. #ive had him since like 3rd grade. hes my baby :( my first dog #and i have a lot of guilt for not spending as much time with him since i went to college and started working #idk it just really sucks on top of everything else lol #genuinely think ill have a breakdown for at least a week when he actually passes #i might try to request the first week of jan off but i dont think work will like that #just to emotionally prepare idk #i need like a month off tbh #im leaning so hard towards quitting #or seeing a doc to get stress related leave of abscence #because my brain is breaking #i feel like ive been half a person for the last two years #personal

so what was the s1 hiatus era like?

Beautiful chaos?

Like.

We had only Season 1, which was still flawed but had a hell of a lot of promise. We only had so much info. So everyone made things up in terms of both lore and future stories!

Things I remember:

Everyone clocked the Alya = Fox and Chloé = Bee thing. Most people had Nino as the Turtle, but some said he'd get the Peacock somehow based on the clothing theme. If people made him the Turtle, then the Peacock user was up in the air(we saw the Peacock in Gabriel's safe in Volpina, the 'last' episode of Season 1 other than Origins. Though no one knew if it was real or just similar because Plagg didn't react to seeing it at all. Which.... is now a plot hole).

Nathaniel was a bit more prominent in the shipping scene. If you were into mlm you had Adrinath(because fandom prefers mlm white prettyboys so since Luka didn't exist yet Nath was the option). And if you were straight then you had Chlonath.

Speaking of, Luka and Kagami didn't exist yet.

Though it was obvious, we didn't know for sure that Gabriel was Hawkmoth. This led to a few different tropes. Sometimes fics would have an entirely different person be Hawkmoth(sometimes random OC, though Alim Kubdel was a popular choice for 'if it's not Gabe'). I saw a few where that whole 'Peacock in the safe' thing led to Gabriel having been a Hero with it before, and with the Hawkmoth thing he breaks it out to try and help keep the new Heroes safe

There was some speculation on Gabriel and Emilie being Heroes before Canon in general because how did they get the Miraculous and what did they do with them?

We didn't have exact powers for the other Miraculous. We /kinda/ guessed that Volpina was correct and the Fox has Illusions, and the Turtle being a shield made sense. But no one knew what to do with the Bee or Peacock. Also no Hero names existed yet so you'll have variations of those.

The Zodiac Miraculous didn't exist. People creating new Miraculous either yoinked whatever animal(s) they like, or used the old concept art.

Up until the Christmas Special, we had no context for how long Emilie had been 'missing'(a plot in the special is that it's Adrien's first Christmas without his mother). So most people had assumed she'd been missing for a while, not just less than a year.

We also had no idea what happened to her! Did she die? Is she legit missing? What's going on?! (tbh we also didn't know her name. If you read my fics from that era I called her 'Felicia'.)

Speaking of mothers, Chloé's mom was unknown! Some wrote her as dead. I accidentally predicted the 'she had an affair that resulted in a half-sister and abandoned Chloé' bit lmao! Though I didn't predict her being as /actively/ awful as Canon.

Lila was in a weird kind of limbo? Technically the end of Volpina implied she'd come back, but most people kinda forgot about her. People who did write her tended to have it that the events of the episode revealed her lies so the class knew her shit was fake. This resulted in either her being the 'opposite Chloé' where she likes Mari but hates LB, or she dropped the nice act all together and started bullying Marinette either with or instead of Chloé(depending on the writer's ideas of Chloé!Redemption)

Fu's ability as a mentor and overall backstory was up in the air. We knew he was hands-off at first, but we assumed he'd be more directly helpful in Season 2. We know he 'made some disasterous mistake', but we didn't know what it was. A lot of people speculated that he had his own team of Heroes that went sideways.

On that note, the Order of the Guardians wasn't known. We had Fu, but no knoweledge of them or other Miracle Boxes

I thiiiiiink there were more tropes, but I cannot for the life remember them. And tbh reading old fics is a TRIP

and also i love that this ~17 year old fat openly gay kid has SO MUCH confidence in himself. could he be overcompensating and actually have a lot internally that he doesn’t like about himself? yes absolutely . but the way he chooses to handle himself with such grace and confidence as he navigates such a complex web of social issues is really admirable to me and i don’t think he gets enough credit :))

323,624 words :0 i didn't think it'd be that much, i tend to write short things, i'm excited to have written so many words !!!

i have posted for haikyuu, death note, bnha, yuri on ice, free, breath of fire iv, and fairy tale for some unknown reason XD but i have unposted / unfinished fanfic for a bunch of other things like hunter x hunter or fma

chat me up has always been my most popular fic and tbh ? yeah i see why XD it is one of the most fun and chatfics were popular at the time. after that come ...or not, blue like the sky, silent trust and saw my momma dad cheese

yes !! fandom is a community first and foremost for me, and posting is also a way to interact. comments are immensely lovely to get and answer !!

ooh probably love me right ?? it's kinda the angstiest i've written... ever. but some nights is also. bad end. solely by virtue of being post apo and not very optimistic about it. i wanna rewrite it someday because i actually really liked that AU and it's not the best right now hmmm

honestly hasetsu tour guides (which is a series but shhh) is the happiest thing i've written ?? it's not the most fun in terms of plot but everyone is content with their life in a way i've not really written a lot

i have written or co-written a NUMBER of crossovers. most are not on ao3 yet (or... ever...) but i have posted death note x snow white and hxh x little red riding hood, so. however i do think that owari no seraph x the frog princess (the russian fairy tale) is the wildest one so far !

11 - Have you ever had a fic stolen?

not to my knowledge, but that'd be kinda funny tbh ? imagine coming across your own obscure niche things in the wild. i'd almost be more disappointed it's not a new fic for my teeny fandom corner lmao

12 - What's the longest you've spent working on one fic? And the shortest?

the shortest would probably be a couple hours, for guardian of his king (written in a fugue state at like 3am, after Syb shared the drawing that inspired it. two of us fell in a trance btw, this was a POTENT artwork). the longest... i don't dare calculate... but it is measured in years and i haven't even started writing yet <3

13 - Have you ever co-written a fic before?

if you count detailed planning and extensive oral storytelling, many !! my best friend and i are very prolific behind the scenes, to her dismay XD. i thiiiiiink she is the only co-writer i have had ? but i LOVE doing group fics and i'd love to do it with other people

"you ask questions i have no answers to" is what i was gonna say and then my brain went "well apart from bokuaka which has to be out of the competition-" so i may have an answer actually hahaha

oooh my god that naruto fountain of youth AU is never gonna be written. i have so so so much planned and i sift through and add more from time to time, but like... i pick my battles a little more wisely than this behemoth

i'm not sure ! i do think writing dialogue is easier for me than most other things, and i love doing fun formatting / narrative constraints

17 - What are your writing weaknesses?

i forget to put down half of the words on the paper so my sentences make no sense and it's horrible to edit <- loves editing. doesn't love when i reread myself and every five sentences i have to think "who tf wrote this and what the hell does it mean. how do you go from here to there ??? oh wait i forgot a sentence again"

18 - Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

english isn't my first language. i write dialogue in another language 99% of the time. i don't think this question really takes into account the amount of ESL writers who are basically always doing this

to stay closer to what the question was meant to ask though, i have written sentences, in the middle of english fics, in languages that me or most readers don't speak. it is usually either a LONG process of looking up grammar rules, vocabulary, existing sentences etc... or what i did once, "write with mistakes because the person is learning the language still"

it is good imo to have characters speak their native tongue, or to add your own HCs onto characters and make them speak in their new native tongue, but it can be done more or less respectfully and more or less clearly. how do you include a translation, if at all ? is it jarring in the flow of your fic ? what about inserting song lyrics in another language ? it's a case by case basis for me tbh, and as a reference i really love how yuri on ice did it during the anime

19 - First fandom you wrote for?

i don't recall what i first wrote for exactly but i first posted for death note in 2015 :0 a while back !!

20 - Favourite fic you've written?

i don't have one at the moment, my criteria isn't defined enough these days. maybe some will jump out more later as they did in the past but for now i can say i love most of my children equally lmao

she's gonna be one of the few people who comes and checks on the rocker. loves him like a big brother! plus he helped her get into her current job as a high end burlesque dancer (she dances at the black sapphire every few months tbh).

Ohhh, super difficult to quantify since there are some where I wrote lots of words very very quickly and others where every word was pain lol.

But I thiiiiiink if I count all the thinking and researching and obsessing I definitely spent the most time on the vampire draft. Probably both in thought and actually writing stuff.

As for published stories I think it must have been You crave the Applause / Yet hate the Attention.

15. What was the most unusual tag you used this year?

I.......actually can't think of any, tbh. with comics it seems like every character has their own lil section of fans, so there aren't any characters who are like. Widely Disliked by anyone, y'know?

listen I respect and admire people who create fanworks for their blorbos but I genuinely don't understand people who create comics fanworks without.......reading the comics. like?!??! I've literally never seen that in any other media before and it just blows my mind. I'm not trying to gatekeep, per se, but it's insane how people like. write fanfic for something they've never even seen/read. like?!? they read other people's fanfic and then write their own and it's like a cursed game of telephone and that's how some of the worst, coldest takes I've ever seen have formed lmao! I just....,,,,,...kudos to writers who have that kind of balls, but if I see an author's note saying they've never read comics before, I yeet myself outta there faster than Barry Allen on leg day

#i swear ive only seen this kinda shit AFTER joining the dc fandom #PARTICULARLY with the batfam since theyre so ''mainstream 🤪'' #i suspect it has something to do with the...general craziness of comics? #all the timelines and crossovers and reboots and shit can get kinda confusing and overwhelming #so ig people dont know where to start/dont really want to deal with the confusion? so they just read fanfics #bite-sized pieces of the overall canon so to speak. except those bite-sized pieces are flavored specifically to what the author perceived- #-them to be. and then these readers go write their own fics and take some of the previous author's flavoring #and add their own. and pretty soon the characters are just OCs with the names tagged on #unpopular opinion but i think the subset of batfam fans who have never read comics but create for them anyway should like. split off #form their own fandom. do their thing w/the blorbos however they want to over THERE while we read comics over HERE #out of sight out of mind etc etc #also maybe its just me but.....i feel like MOST of the batcest in the fandom stems from non-comic readers #i dont know for sure since i wouldnt touch batcest with a 70 foot pole but. i suspect it #particularly j*ytim since theres all those titans tower aus and hurt/comfort fics with those two specifically #written completely out of character because the author has CLEARLY never read anything with either of them #idk maybe not. like i said its all just speculation. but i sure as hell wouldnt be surprised #ANYWAY this was very cathartic <3 i love being salty on main thanks bestie #asks #wonderwondered #tw batcest #<- its briefly mentioned in the tags but just to be safe

i’ve been working on resident evil moodboards for basically the past 24 hours minus the time it took me to sleep/shower/eat

and occasionally pinterest would questionably show me pins of bill skarsgard and christian slater in the “more like this” section - two actors who, after watching castle rock s1 and dr death last month, i am currently obsessed with (yes i know these are weird shows to get me attached to them, but their most famous characters are a fucking murderous clown alien and a teenage psychopath, so) (and okay the kid/alt hd might also be a monster but he was cute and sad and i believed his story) (and the fictional version of randall kirby is just a fucking treat)

ANYWAY i eventually gave in and made a board to save pins of them and any other people that i decide belong in there (a single cute picture of young tim robbins???? yep, saved that, i just rewatched shawshank this week and somehow pinterest knew)

anyway instead of my homepage being 90% aesthetic pins and 10% miscellaneous like it used to be, it’s now 30% aesthetic pins and 70% christian slater and bill skarsgard and i can’t get ANYTHING done. every time i see a new pin of one of them i add it to their board and end up scrolling for twenty minutes because my algorithm is fucking destroyed and i am weak
