Do you have any idea when the second season of the svss donghua is coming out? The trailer looks so good! 😩
Honestly, I will be very surprised if it does premiere eventually given the original plot and it's gotten harder to get BL content aired within China. Rumors have it maybe being able to air in certain international countries, but take that with a HEAVY grain of salt. Tencent isn't exactly very easy going with letting oversea's audience have specific content only.
And, there are multiple big BL titles that have yet to surface even after having finished filming live actions. Don't think Donghua content will have it any easier.
(Laughs in Mr. Love/Queen's Choice controversy and silence after one season since 2020)
Tencent is a bitch, anon, and it is the biggest media censorship tycoon in China, don't keep high expectations for any of it's BL or risqué projects to be released any time soon.

I am honestly so fascinated with the possibilities for how Netflix will handle the three body problem adaptation. Obviously it’s going to be primarily English language but how are they going to do the flashbacks to the cultural revolution? IMO it would be weird to have those scenes (inspired by real events) acted out with English dialogue. However, it would ALSO be weird to have Chinese people diegetically speak Chinese in the past but have the actors speak English during the main timeline of the books? Like there’s no good option for an English language adaptation lmao

I think you can death of the author as much as you want always of course but I do think it's a bit weird seeing new tgcf fans making posts like "well mxtx sucks because she said this ship isn't canon so she's stupid and actually someone else made tgcf" right after all the information about how tencent's license for the untamed expired 2 years ago so they've just been making awful derivatives and unlicensed merchandise to grift fans without giving anything to the original creator. Like i have my issues w the books too but you have to be aware this isn't like a jkr situation where she's been bragging about how popular and wealthy she is while being a bigot. the vast majority of things we know about her and her views are very limited, incredibly twisted by both the often hostile Chinese fan space and English translation, and fairly outdated due to the books and authors notes being nearly a decade old now

You might have already mentioned this and if so, I'm sorry to ask you to repeat yourself. But how do you feel about Larian's announcement that they will never do another D&D related game, including any additional Baldur's Gate things? On the one hand, I really respect that and I'll be happy to experience brand new rpgs from them. I am already hyped for the new rpg they're teasing! But on the other hand, it does make me sad because they brought so much life to the BG universe and I just have a terrible feeling someone else will snatch up the IP and ruin the series by trying to milk Larian's success.
Again, I'm sorry to randomly slide into your dms, just was curious to hear your opinion on it.
Hello hello, no worries - I have not actually spoken about this here nor on twitter. But, I have discussed this with friends!
Considering Larian teased in the past the possibility of BG3 getting DLCs and knowing the fact that DOS2 got two of them, I was pretty confident they'd make at least one for BG3. Swen confirming that they won't make any did surprise me, but I'm not mad about it! Nor am I disappointed that they won't make another D&D related game. If anything, it kinda sucks that WotC is probs gonna milk the hell out of BG3 like you said and who knows, maybe they're even considering making another Baldur's Gate game… but ultimately I'm super excited about Larian Studios' next project. It's just ironic because Larian was denied by WotC the rights to Baldur's Gate after DOS, then they approached them again when they were working on DOS2 and Larian had to provide the necessary documents to showcase, for an opportunity to purchase the license for BG3 while nearing bankruptcy at the time (hence the investment from Tencent iirc).
Anyway, WotC sucks for so many reasons and I know Swen keeps saying that they are not the reason why they didn't renew their license or decide to make another D&D related game, and while I'm sure that's partly true, the mass layoffs from WotC disappointed lots of Larian people (nearly everyone at WotC who worked alongside Larian for BG3 left) and I mean... I would understand not wanting to work alongside that company tbh.
With that being said, I feel like now that they got their name out there, they can focus on more personal projects and ideas and still have a solid chance at making a successful game. I'm excited for whatever they're gonna cook up next, that company's full of passionate people who don't seem money driven so I'm really hopeful. I think ultimately, it's all for the best!

you like love nikki, right??? [sits in your inbox] can you tell me a bit more about it? it seems interesting and i heard there was like, an rpg for it coming out??? so like. please. tell me about it if you'd like <3
*closes love nikki* *sees this ask*
i really do like it! played it a lot a few years ago but quitted a while go and just recently reinstalled (still not playing much tho </3)
love nikki is the third installment of a series of dressup mobile games. the first two haven't been released in english afaik and the fourth one is called shining nikki and it's 3D, though i haven't played it (heard it's less friendly to f2p players too </3). you don't need to play any of the others to understand ln, though i've heard shining nikki is a sequel of sorts
the main premise is that nikki, our protag, gets isekai'ed to the magic country of miraland. and in this country, every citizen suffers from a blood curse that makes them unable to resort to force or they will suffer unbearable pain. so, that society has resorted to solving conflicts through styling battles! there, nikki becomes a famous stylist and meets a lot of people along the way. however, at a certain point a revolution breaks out, led by a man who doesn't seem to care about the blood curse...
the story takes a while to pick up, but it becomes pretty intense later on. each outfit you can obtain in the game has lore attached too, and those can be wild as well
the worldbuilding is pretty interesting too! miraland has 7 main regions, each of which has a distinctive fashion style: lilith which specializes in lolita fairytale-style clothes, cloud that's centered around chinese historic fashion, ruin island that's more cyberpunk, a racist orientalist area because the game devs often suck... it's a tencent game yeah </3
but overall it is pretty fun and has some incredibly gorgeous outfits and art! here are some i rly like <3

So I watched The Silver Guardian
A.K.A. Gin No Guardian. Both seasons.
This is one of the worst shounen's I've seen. Wow! Seriously that's impressive.
So you got a story where the main character is supposed to be an elite gamer. Yet, he's lame as hell. This guy shows off absolutely 0 skill in every battle he takes place in. He wins his fights not because of himself, but because of an item someone gives had given him. Every single time. He never wins on his own merit.
What makes it worse is how he is set up. He was a famous player who could take down end-game bosses with the weakest gear. His whole shtick is that he was too poor in real life afford paying for the best items, so he manages with the weak gear. (The game seems to be an MMO...think of it like Maplestory if you know that game).
So in this new MMO game, money is literally power. Maximum pay to win energy coming from this game. If you're rich, you're OP. In-game currency is literally your power level (which you can buy with real money). How is the poor main character so good in this new game?
Ah, he was given billions of money right at the start he doesn't even have to actually try c'moooon. What's the point of the setup? Was it all just a waste of time?
Yes.
That's what The Silver Guardian is. A bigass waste of time. What I just complained about wasn't even the premise of the story, just an aspect of the main character. There's no point in discussing the story or the characters. There's nothing to it.
Characters? What about them? They're nothing but a stack of cliches. There's no character writing to speak of here, just cogs in the plot machine.....a machine that explains nothing by the way. The characters may allude you to something deeper within the story, but there's nothing there! There will never be anything there for you!
I'm repeating myself at this point, so how about something actually interesting? The production:
The Silver Guardian is an adaptation of a manhua. It's Chinese....well sorta. The original manhua is certainly Chinese, but the production of this anime is fairly japanese. A lot of the staff are Japanese staff, but the studio is a Chinese one.
Haoliners Huimeng Animation is the studio. It's the first time I've seen their work and it seems aight. Although they got help from BLADE too and there was contracted japanese animators involved as well. It's hard to judge how much of the animation came from Haoliners without looking into it. (Even the opening is a japanese one!)
I'm not debating whether to call this "anime" or anything. I just find it interesting. Silver Guardian is apparently a pretty popular manhua. Surely this adaptation isn't faithful to the original. I can see proper setups to story beats that the anime just doesn't execute on.
Was this trying to pander to a japanese audience or something? I definitely got the vibe of an unfaithful production Could this be some kind of cash grab?
I could be a little too suspicious, but when I saw that Tencent is the publisher of the manhua I couldn't help being skeptical. Maybe the original work is actually that bad, but then how is it so successful? Aaaaaaaaa, I'm so curious!
Well anyway, the show sucks ass. I wouldn't recommend watching it unless you're there for the sole purpose to tear it to shreds. All those youtubers who farmed Sword Art Online's bad writing for views have no idea what some actually terrible writing can be like. THIS is some bottom of the barrel shit that would actually need more than an hour to dissect everything wrong with it. It's truly fascinating how bad this is.

Under the current “pro rata” model held true in Spotify and Apple, money from your dedicated fans goes into a giant pool that’s paid out to artists based on their share of total streams. This mostly benefits mega stars.
Spotify figures out how many streams came from a given country and then calculates the portion of those streams that went to specific artists. This causes smaller artists who might not have such a massive reach, but have a dedicated loyal audience, not getting much money because they share a smaller portion of the overall streams.
Effectively, if The Weeknd or Harry Styles gets 5% of all streams on Spotify in any given period they and their labels will get 10% of your monthly subscription fee, even if you never listened to any of their songs.
Rolling Stone reported in 2020, that the top 1 percent of streaming artists end up getting 90 percent of the revenue.
If you were to take the more than 1.6 million artists who released music to streaming services in the past year and a half and ranked them by their total streams, you’d find that the top 16,000 of those artists pulled in 90 percent of the streams. And it doesn’t take more than a basic grasp of math to realize that this leaves 1.6 million artists with just 10 percent of the streams.
FYI the current number of artists on Spotify has now grown to about 9 million, this means more share less.
This “pro rata” model typically benefits the major labels and the most popular artists. When you listen to music on the streaming services what do you hear on these platform generated playlists, radio stations and suggestions: More of the same top artists represented by the biggest labels. This has changed very little if at all over the last 3 years.
Obviously this is not acceptable. Not only from the view of the music creator, independent label and self-publisher but also from the fan’s’ point of view. It too sucks knowing that these superstars are taking money away from your choice artists.
Yet, I cannot feel too bad about using streaming services. The subscription fee is for using the service. No longer do I need to carry around all my CDs or be limited to the storage capacity in my device. And new releases are automatically available. But there must be a better way to focus user and fan activity and payments in a more meaningful way.
Lets see how the biggest record labels will get their fingers into the new payment models. We’ll take a look at the most recent deal with Universal and Deezer, as well as the first change in the “pro rata” model founded by Soundcloud and Warner.
Micropayments and Tips: A Better Way to Pay Your Artists
If only there was a way for a fan to pay directly to the artist. Wait, hold up there is. Though Netease and Tencent in China use the “pro rata” model, they calculate the accumulated streams of a given artist and pay out according to the type of user: free, subscribing, or VIP. So the pay per stream varies from user to user. Already there is a distinction between users. But even, is the possibility for the listeners and fans to give gifts directly to their artists.
Yet another advance in China that the western services are lacking and struggling to “catch up to”, if that is even a tangible consideration for the streaming services to implement?
Micropayments and digital tips are common in China. There are apps that allow people to tip or give monetary gifts. However, many platforms have this function built into their system as they do in the music platforms in China like QQ and Netease as well as Douyin and others. And you can always use a 3rd party app to send a gift to the ones you choose. How awesome would it be to go to Spotify or Deezer or Apple and leave your thoughts and show your love as comments to your artist as you listen to their music, as they do on Netease and QQ. And also showing your support by giving them a tip or virtual gift.
Moving Beyond Pro Rata
Universal has struck a deal with Deezer or is it vice versa? Deezer CEO Jeronimo Folgueira says that the deal is the “most ambitious change” to the economies of music streaming since it first started.
Focusing on artists who have a minimum of 1,000 streams per month with a minimum of 500 unique listeners will get a “double boost.” Is that 2x per stream?
They will get another “double boost” if the song was actively searched for by the user rather than suggested by the system or on a playlist. Is that 4x times per stream?
This Artist Centric streaming model is definitely a move forward. It seems though that the ones it benefits the most are the artists who are already taking the majority of the royalties. So any artist who has more than 1000 monthly streams and 500 different listeners will now be taking double of what they are already taking. Where is this coming from?
Denis Ladegaillerie of Believe, expressed his concerns that this 1000 streams/500 listener threshold will increase over time. Essentially squeezing out any upcoming artist with fewer than the threshold.
Jeronimo Folgueira of Deezer has addressed a very sore point in the streaming world, “There is no other industry where all content is valued the same, and it should be obvious to everyone that the sound of rain or a washing machine is not as valuable as a song from your favorite artist streamed in HiFi.”
Deezer is planning to replace non-artist noise content with its own content as functional music which won’t be included in the royalty pool. And of course tackling fraud by driving a better new and improved fraud detection system, making it less attractive to fraudsters and protecting the royalties.
So at least we can count on 2 things: Artists will receive a smaller payout if their songs play as part of an algorithmic playlist and will not need to compete with background noise tracks. Please remember this is only on Deezer. And how about all artists that are not part of Universal Music Group do they share pro rata of whatever is left over?
As of now Spotify is not on board, “We are willing to make the switch to a user-centric model if that’s what artists, songwriters, and rights holders want to do. However, Spotify cannot make this decision on its own; it requires broad industry alignment to implement this change. The research we’ve seen to date suggests that a shift to user-centric payments would not benefit artists as much as many may have originally hoped.”
Another possibility implemented by Tidal is their Direct-to-Artists payment model established in 2022. As a listener and subscriber your monthly fee will be allotted to a pool of royalties based on your subscription tier. As a premium HiFi plus subscriber it is estimated that 10% of your fee will go directly to your artists you listen to.
At the forefront we have Soundcloud and their Fan-powered royalty model since 2021. This is only available to independent artists who monetize directly with SoundCloud. The more time your dedicated fans listen to your music, the more you get paid. So a user paying $10 a month only listens to five artists, those five artists will get a split of that $10, after SoundCloud takes its cut, no matter how many times the user listens to each of them.
This model that seems to benefit independent artists is a collaboration with Warner Music Group, having cut a licensing deal with SoundCloud to adopt the streamer’s Fan-Powered Royalties system. WMG is the first major label to adopt the system, and its embrace of the model could signal a larger shift for the industry. Warner and independent artists are like oil and water, could there still be a light at the end of the tunnel for independent artists?
Conclusion
The structure of payments between streaming services and labels or independent artists are in need of change.
There is an inability to distinguish premium content, any stream over 30 seconds in length counts the same. This means that the music that has a higher value is not recognized.
An alternative is a more flexible artist-centric model that seeks to distribute payouts based on the value an artist creates and provides for the platform.
Fan-powered royalties means a subscriber’s subscription fee or advertising revenue will be shared among the artists they actually listen to, rather than going to a big pot and being split up among the platform’s most popular artists.
Streaming platforms have more pricing power than they have demonstrated in prior years as several major music streaming platforms have increased their prices on their standard services; however, the average revenue per user on paid streaming music services has fallen by 40% since 2016.
Apple Music and Spotify have essentially lowered the value of their catalogues by introducing family plans and smaller prices for bundled users, but maybe they are preparing for the next generation of users.

Game development: how to progress in this offbeat career choice.
Working on an amateur 9-5 job sucks. But in the 21st century, you can choose your profession as whatever work you love to do as your offbeat carrier path. Game development is one of the most popular offbeat carriers, and I Must suggest choosing your way through it if one likes the game development work. It needs passion, skills, learning capability, and many other things which a human can do to choose this path.
The most famous indie game developer Tynan Sylvester who worked with popular names like Groove Games, Digital extremes, and Epic Games, once said,
“The designer's real goal is to enrich the player's internal experiences. That goal is harder to achieve, and it's damned difficult to measure. But it's the truth. And pursuing that truth makes your designs smaller, simpler, more focused, and more elegant than they could ever get by strategy counting.”, And I agree with that.
Game development is a bit complicated to understand! If this is your problem, then COURSENATOR will help you make your way clean and clear through this blog.

Top Gaming Engines and their reviews are as follows:-
There are numerous gaming engines all over the internet, But they must choose the suitable one as per the game they want to develop using the Engine's tools. Your game engine should provide you a proper Input, good physics, AI, scripting, and all the essential things required to process a game.
The Most popular and well know gaming engines are as follows:-
Unreal Engine:-  Unreal Engine by Epic Games is one of the most famous and widely used engines by game developers worldwide. Initially, the original version was released in 1998 and is currently one of the most accessible tools for game development.
Best games from Unreal Engine:- ZAOS, Batman: Arkham City - Game of the Year Edition, Mass effect 3: Citadel, IS defense, etc.
Reviews:-
We mostly found Positive reviews for the Unreal Engine all over the internet. There were few doubts which the complete beginners raised, but the rest all sounded positive.
Amazon Lumberyard:-  Amazon lumberyard is offered by Amazon with accessible pricing. The Engine helps to build fan communities and games. It supports c++, adobe photoshop, P2P, and auto desk. It was launched in 2016, and its features replaced many gaming engines and enlisted itself on the top gaming engines list.
Best games from Amazon Lumberyard:-  Squadron42, Star citizen, new world, the grand tour game, etc.
Reviews:-
Amazon Lumberyard is new in the gaming market. It has been only a few years since it started, but people still love it, and its users are in massive numbers.
Unity:-  Unity has acquired the gaming market for the past few years. Its features set you free to create 3d content with beast techniques and also support 2d content. It is compatible with Mac, Linux, Windows, IOS, Android, Switch, Xbox, Ps4, Tizen, and several other platforms.
Best games from Unity:-  Deus EX: the fall, Assassin’s Creed: Identity, Escape Plan, Temple run: Trilogy, Kerbal Space program, Etc.
Reviews:-
We found varieties of reviews for the Unity gaming engine, and most of them were positive or the questions asked by different sorts of developers on the internet. If you ever read this statement, "Unity is best and easy to access," then it is true. Thousands and millions of game developers use this Engine for their projects.
GameMaker (Studio): If one has a programming language, this gaming engine will help you with this problem. Many developers switch to other game developing engines as it is limited than other gaming engines.
Best games from Game Maker:-  Undertale, Hotline Miami, and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, Shovel Knight, Etc.
Reviews:-
Some people find it worthless or cheap because it is helpful for beginners. Some limitations make this gaming engine less famous than others. As per some professionalists, gaming engines play a minor part in developing a game because it is all about the input you use while preparing a game. The game maker makes good and bad games, and it all depends on the developers—most people who don't know how to code or understand programming use these tools as best.
Godot:-  Godot is best for both 2d and 3d creations. It provides the best tools with breathtaking features. Access to operating this Engine is free. The end-user support group offers better services in any problem like fixing bugs and adding updates and features.
Best games from Godot:-  Boatmen, Migos, Dome Romantik, Project Kat, etc.
Reviews:-
Godot users reviewed this Engine as best, primarily for 2d Creations. Bad reviews were not in many numbers, but few were like the Engine runs a little rough initially, and the community is not that significant in numbers. Godot is still listed on the top and sits among the best gaming engines industries.
Now, it all depends on game developers that, how they want their Engine to work for them as a helping hand.
The tools you need for game development are available out there on the internet; the highest-paid jobs you seek are out there in the world, so what to wait for? All you need is knowledge and passion for your work. Passion is a self-observing thing, and no one will help you with that. The thing is I think we shouldn't want winner is king and the other BLs to come out now they will get butchered beyond recognition 100 times more so than they would've been before. LON wasn't BL but tencent played up the bl elements in the show bc BL had just recently exploded so they cut so much from it it went from 30 eps to 29 but the thing is it was supposed to be 45 minutes and it turned into 35 minute episodes so they cut like a fourth of it. It would be even more prominent in straight bl adaptations. I think it's better if they wait for things to maybe calm down and the rules to relax a little or change is there is a chance of that and then try to release them. It already sucks that we have to see queer stories written in subtext bc of rampant homophobia it would be much worse to even lose the subtext essentially erasing the relationships that are supposed to be the center of these stories.
Oh I agree with you, I am totally willing to wait to see the unadulterated versions of these dramas. But the invisible hand of the market may dictate otherwise. Tencent and Mango spent money on these projects and I'm sure they are eager to recoup their investments. And sad to say I'm sure they care about money much more than fairness or artistic integrity. That's capitalism, baby (oh the irony).
As to whether things will get better with regard to censorship relaxing.... I have my doubts. With the demographic cliff China is looking down, I predict they will be pushing the "get married and pop out some citizens because uh-oh 30 years of letting people have only one kid was a bad idea, who knew?" narrative for the foreseeable future. Although, maybe the powers that be would relax censorship because entertainment has always been a great distraction from other harsh realities. Who knows? Not me. But I will remain hopeful that somehow the original versions of these dramas are released.
tl;dr - I agree with everything you said.
