I've got to say, I've been doing a lot of research on Italy recently and I literally can't stop thinking about your boys. I'm over here trying to read about whatever Crusade and my brain is just a constant loop of "isn't Machete a cardinal? And Vasco was from like Verona, right?" Not super conducive to learning anything, but I am enjoying myself and thought you should know.
Thank you for your lovely art and for sharing your darlings <33
That's adorable ;^; But also sorry the lads keep distracting you, hah.
I'd argue that getting invested in your characters and their stories and having to do background research for them is actually a great way to accumulate knowledge about various subjects. Often it's stuff you probably would never get around to reading about otherwise. I'm not saying it's always information you'll have many practical uses for, but learning about new things is fun and it's beneficial to you and your brain in the long run.
Vasco is from Florence actually! It's usually considered to be the birthplace and the main hub of the entire Renaissance movement. Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and Michelangelo lived and influenced there and Dante Alighieri (author of The Divine Comedy/Dante's Inferno) was florentine as well, albeit he lived several centuries prior to them.

Brya's Love Breakdown
Finally got the pattern for the new Void Precision Scout Rifle, Brya's Love. So let's talk perks, stats, and buildcrafting.
Tumblr media
First of all, it's gorgeous. I love the D1 scout models so this being a Void flavored Vision of Confluence was an instant win. And while the IS scope isn't my favorite, it's clean with a very prominent red dot. The ornate details along the edge of the sight can be a little obstructive especially when comparing it to its older sister, Doom of Chelchis, which has one of the best sights in the game.
Speaking of Doom, how does this new one stack up.
Tumblr media
Comparing both with just Arrowhead Brake, Steady Rounds, a Stability masterwork, and Icarus, which is how I'd recommend setting either of these up, Doom is objectively the stronger of the 2. No surprise given it's a Raid chase and not a seasonal weapon you can grind out the pattern for in a week. But tbh, it really isn't that much better. And once we factor in perks both scouts are able to clear out a niche for themsleves.
Doom's strength comes from the ability to run Explosive Payload with a damage perk like Frenzy or One-For-All. Remember, EP deals a bonus 15% damage in PvE for free. While Brya's can get Explosive Payload as well, it is locked to the 4th column with the rest of the damage perks.
Where Brya's is able to catch back up is in the sheer value of the perks in both columns. While Doom can get some nutty combos, not every perk it has is valuable. Brya's literally doesn't have any bad options. I might even wind up crafting multiple rolls. So let's talk about it.
Tumblr media
Barrels:
At base, Brya's has 78 recoil direction. Which is the highest natural RD of any 180 scout HOWEVER it is the furthest from a centered recoil pattern. Remember, if it's not 100, you want your RD to be as close to ending in 5 as possible. I.e. 55, 75, 85, etc. will tend to be more vertical. Something like 63 will bounce left; 78 will bounce right. So I recommend just going for Arrowhead to make it 100 and be done with it. The handling bump is nice too. If you don't care about RD, which is completely valid, go for stability or handling. Fluted and Smallbore are 2 favorites.
Magazine:
This one is a bit more to taste. I like the consistency Stead Rounds give and the AE bump is a nice bonus. Tactical Mag, Flared Magwell, or Appended are also great choices.
3rd Column:
Here's where it starts getting good. Keep Away is free Range (10), Reload Speed (30), and Accuracy (5%, 7.5% w/Enhanced) just for operating in your intended range (15m away from enemies). Even with perks like Rapid Hit and No Distractions this one is my go to for a PvP roll. The bonus Range reverses the -5 you get from Steady Rounds and the Accuracy bonus is actually very impactful imo. You'll hit shots you had no business landing.
Loose Change, while good in concept, isn't strong enough nor does it last long enough. Even when running it with a Gyrfalcon build. I'd love to see it buffed. It has good potential.
Perpetual Motion is a great perk. Just not on this scout. Especially if you're trying to use the Head Rush trait perk.
Perfect Float is a good perk especially when pairing with Frenzy.
Shoot to Loot is always solid. Especially now that it works with Orbs and Explosive Payload.
Rapid Hit will always be strong. Especially if you synergize it with a new 4th column perk.
No Distractions is a personal favorite. Use it with EP to become a dueling king. Literally an Energy Tears of Contrition.
4th Column:
Precision Instrument is crazy. Rapid hits will increase precision damage. It's literally precision Target Lock. And like Target Lock, it will reduce ttks against certain resiliences in Crucible. Non enhanced will let you 3 tap T4 res and below (enhanced will bump that up to T5) for a .67 ttk. Very strong. A free 3 tap with no activation cost. Think Luna's Howl but on a much stricter timer and res gated. However, the likelihood of running into T5 res or lower is very unlikely in the Crucible rn with Titans being as strong as they are. Still strong tho.
Explosive Payload. You know it. You love it. I will never fault anyone for picking it. It's always a good scout perk.
Frenzy. Also strong on the archetype. Will allow 3 crits while active. The bonus 100 reload and handling are the best parts imo.
Adagio. Sleeper pick. Reduces RPM to 150 but allows a 2 crit 1 body. Great post kill perk. Damage output of a Radiant 150 scout but with the stat package of a 180.
Pugilist. Skip it. Use Monte Carlo. Stab the Witness.
Golden Tricorn. The king of damage perks. 15% for 7s after a kill will allow a 3 tap at all resiliences. 50% for 10s if you get an ability kill with x1 is active. If you get Tricorn x2 and also Radiant, you can 2 tap. But good luck with that setup.
Destabilizing Rounds. New for a scout. Great choice. Synergizes well with all Void classes but especially a Stylish Executioner hunter or Controlled Demo titan.
Recommendations and Closing Thoughts:
All great perks. Any combination of which I would recommend but let me give a handful:
PVE: Shoot-To-Loot/Explosive Payload. Perfect Float/Frenzy. Loose Change/Destablizing Rounds. Rapid Hit or Keep Away/Golden Tricorn.
PVP: No Distractions/Explosive Rounds. Perpetual Motion/Frenzy. Rapid Hit or Keep Away/Precision Instrument. Rapid Hit/Adagio.
And that's it! It's a very strong scout. I was initially disappointed to see another craftable void 180 but I was so throughly impressed once I got my hands on it. It feels better than Doom imo. Sounds better too. This is one that won't be leaving my inventory for some time.
Good luck farming!

The song is called "Romance" and please ignore the cover.
Okay, so I'm feeling quite romantic today for whatever reason (I mean, not just romantic, but not the point) I thought about another song which between "The Deal" and "The Cost" (we need a shorter name for that period of excruciating anxiety and constant fear) got "Gavin song" slapped over it.
Originally it was very obviously - Freelancer to Gavin song because at the time I wouldn't have ever dared to think that he can have those kinds of feelings for them. With how the tables were not just turned but bloody disintegrated and transformed into a mattress with a cute fluffy blanket, I think that all of that might be mutual.
With how they both act (and if we project all my insecurities onto the freelancer obviously) and talk I think that the "I'm both simultaneously not enough and too much for them and they have so many options and I'm definitely not at the top of the list but I'm still going to try to give them what I can and maybe it will turn out alright" kind of vibe might have been fairly mutual all along.
And it did turn out alright. It turned out so much better than alright that it's still unbelievable.
Lyrics under the cut, sorry for religious allusions:
Kept by a January evening
Under ice domes
I stand unseen, unharmed.
Loved by the earth, but not you.
You are constantly on the sidelines
Close as death, and beyond control...
But nevertheless - beautiful,
Like dreams of peace in a war.
I understand that You have
Quite a few people like me,
And my difficult road
Will not adorn your eyes.
But I search, I grow words,
I dedicate every evening to you,
As the gyrfalcon, who explained the sky,
As bread, who perceived the millstones.
It's Christmas night
The star will crumble into candles
And we will merge into the One
And He will understand and He will answer.
And walk us down the aisle
Will reveal secrets at the altar,
That everything in the world is not accidental
And death is not the end for the life...
Kept by a January evening
Under ice domes
I stand unseen, unharmed.
Loved by the earth, and all of you.

Here we have yet another doomed child, and gosh darn why do I make them so adorable? that just makes it very bittersweet.
@opal-tea (because her full outfit might have been inspired by your one doodle of little Hai from a Sketch Dump *whistles innocently*) and @justawfulxmenart for your brilliant picture of the Cobriana family as a whole, because I did some thinking while finding the colors for her. I kind of want to try designing my version of Sisal at some point because gosh darn do I love her, even if we never see her in person. I like to think that Sisal had planned to name her daughter Hai and shared this with her family and Anjay happened to mention it to Darien. Then when both Sisal, the baby, and Anjay are killed, Darien honors them by naming her daughter Hai.
Okay, canon-verse aside. Let's get into Kala's Rewrite AU.
This is Hatia (lose, to lose, lost, loser, losing in ha'Dasi), the daughter of Anjay Cobriana and Darien. She is basically my replacement for Hai since I had revamped Hai as the daughter of Oliza and Nicias. Unlike her canon counterpart, Hatia is not going to have a lucky break and that makes her quite tragic.
I really must question why Cjarsa took such an interest in Hai, given that her conception was against the rules and then Darien tried to commit treason of the highest form (attempted murder of Araceli, the Heir to the White Lady). Maya herself confirms the fate of most children born from forbidden circumstances, though now I wonder if they would stoop so low as to kill unwanted children...I feel like falcons would approach this from the same standpoint that you use when breeding animals with lethal genes. The ka'jaes (falcons without magic) are worthless in a place where the inhabitants breathe power, but yet purebred falcons struggle to reproduce because the magic that gives them power beyond all imagination, is also poisonous to new life. So while the ka'jaes are seen as lower-class citizens, they are critical to ensure the continued survival of the falcon race. Because while it may be hard to kill a falcon, I kind of imagine that living for a thousand years can get tiresome...maybe instead of death, some falcons fall to Ecl in an almost death. Heck, they probably gather their friends and loved ones and have some kind of party before they go, and then they are taken to the shm'Ecl and left under the care of Servos. Their family and friends can come to visit them whenever they want and...yeah, you need to replace them somehow. I feel the rule instead is that a ka'jaes is not allowed to have a child with a fellow ka'jaes. Because they are needed to create proper magical falcon babies, not ones without magic. Maya probably had her child sired by a ka'jaes man and thus her baby was born pure ka'jaes. The baby was taken away and its parents were both tortured by the Mercy as punishment for breaking the law. I kind of imagine that Araceli did not kill this baby, though Maya thinks she did and maybe that is the idea. The child was given to "proper" parents who would hopefully raise it to better understand and obey the Empress's laws. An even more bittersweet idea I have now is that Maya was forced to admit that her partner had raped her (even if it was done with consent from both parties) and that is what saved her life...but it cost the man his life.
Okay, I got really off-topic here. But you get the idea of what I am trying to say I hope.
Scanning through Wyvernhail, it seems like getting Hai on the throne was Cjarsa's plan all along. And the Empress seems miffed that Hai is not grateful for what she has done. I am not sure what Cjarsa planned to gain from this unless her plan was to ensure that Keyi would be born and Wyvern's Court would fall to destruction and chaos and then the world would be saved once again, thanks to the Falcons.
On second thought, that is just it. I do believe the falcons felt threatened by the ending of the Avian-Serpiente War (because Anhamirak's magic could be combined and that is very, very, very bad) and sought to destroy the peace in any way they could. Why else would Syfka use her magic to convince an innocent Avian woman to attack Danica in such a way that she would be unable to have any more children aside from Oliza? And reading that part of Snakecharm, I really do believe the would-be assassin was in fact innocent, she is so full of remorse for what had happened that her Avian Reserve broke and she was crying with tears running down her face. So the bad guys in the Kiesha'ra series are the falcons, though they believe themselves to be the good guys, and this makes Hai being able to get them to leave her people alone quite amazing?
But enough about other stuff, we really must get back to discussing this poor little chick.
Hatia is born to Darien a few months after Anjay's death. Despite her feelings towards Araceli, Darien is immediately in love with her little girl and plans to raise her with Kel (Darien and Kel were on-again, off-again girlfriends, and a recent falling out was what led Darien to seek attention from another source). But sadly, this would not come to be.
Araceli, with two of her Mercy members, came to Darien's room. The two guards restrained Darien while the Heir took the crying baby away. Due to the bond between mother and child, Darien knew the moment when Hatia took her last break and the Mercy can feel her torment.
Deciding that Araceli has gone too far, Darien plots to avenge Anjay and Hatia and tries to kill Araceli when she is vulnerable. It fails, and Darien escapes to Ecl while Kel flees the island because she is unable to execute her best friend and lover. (Spoiler): Lilian is the one who falls to Ecl while her brother Mer survives that day with a scar.
A ka'jaes child could be excused as they are useful to the falcon population in other ways. But a quemak like Hatia and canon Hai? I do not see it. Hatia would have had magic, but it is unpredictable and the stigma of her mixed blood can't easily be ignored. The hair and eyes and her feathers being black with red gyrfalcon markings.
RIP little baby wyvern girl.

46 - Skies for the headcannon ask!
Seth stood at the rooftop's edge, fingers clenched tight in his falconers' gloves. Outside he was calm and collected--even his aura was perfectly contained, that pleasant, bland stillness that white serpents called home. His daughter wasn't yet old enough to know it for the mask it was. Coro hopped happily on her father's wrist, completely unaware that every time she did his heart leapt and his stomach sank.
"Hold her high, love."
Nica slipped up behind him, having shed the colorful wrap she'd come up in. Underneath she was bare, preparing to shift into her feathered form to show her daughter the ropes. Nica did feel the lack of tension emanating from Seth. And while she knew its source, she was kind enough not to tease her mate for his fear of heights. She just smiled and kissed him on the cheek and held her hand out for their daughter to rub her feathered head against. Coro chirped, talons flexing, clearly impatient. Nica sang a happy note in answer, then stepped back a pace to shift.
His mate was radiant in the early morning light. The first rays of sun still stained the clouds in red and oranges, the perfect backdrop to her auburn hair and tawny skin. Seth tried to focus on the beauty of her forms--the red shouldered hawk just as colorful as her human shape--but the yawning gap between him and the ground made joy impossible. So he simply held his other arm aloft, inviting Nica to alight and show his only child how to dance in the wind.
The sky stretched long and empty before them, endless possibility. Seth had the sudden urge to cuddle Coro close, to press her to chest and wrap his arms around her and never let go. But Nica was already winging her way to him, and he held steady, bracing for the added weight.
Coro called to her mother, trilling happily with a shrill edge that marked her as wyvern. The gyrfalcon's form she now wore was but one of three, but her current favorite. That was the only reason Seth was out here at 7am on a Sunday, holding his family over the edge of Asylum's roof.
"Just do like mommy," he prompted, not really understanding his role in all this. He was glad to be there for moral support, but Seth had no idea how to teach a fledgling to fly. He avoided heights at all costs. But he would do this for her, if Nica thought it would help.
His mate flapped her wings, once, twice, trilling at Coro to do the same. Her silver wings shivered, shuffled, then flapped furiously enough to send Seth staggering backwards. Coro squawked, suddenly airborne as Seth pinwheeled.
Nica sprang into action, diving against their child to knock her surely towards a grassy patch instead of the stones. She shifted back, snatching an also shifted Coro as she ran and flung herself into her mother's arms. Seth braced for tears, but to his surprise, she was laughing.
"I did it! Mommy, I did it!"
She whirled to Seth in Nica's embrace. "Did you see me, Daddy? I did it!"
Seth laughed shakily, going weak in the knees.
"Yes, Coro'la. I saw you. You did it."
Send me a Prompt!

Woman Nature (article for Elle Dit 2018)
By Katerina Grypma
I realised I was a part of nature years before I realised I was a woman. Climbing and bleeding, discovering and collecting the insects and animals all over my backyard as a kid, I felt more in touch with non-human life than I have ever since. To me, ecofeminism- a philosophical theory combining feminist and ecological discourses- is a medium through which I can explore and cultivate the fusion of my identities as an environmentalist and a (now adult) woman. More broadly, I feel ecofeminism can deepen feminist thought by reaffirming the significance and strength entailed in womanhood. It can also guide us toward inventive, personally engaging ways of tackling the climate crisis. To demonstrate this, I wanted to focus here upon what ecofeminism can offer environmental conservation, and how it might be applied in a practical sense. There are a few ways, I think.
Firstly, ecofeminism can enhance the effectiveness of some boring but necessary stuff: management arrangements, decision-making procedures and other policy implementations with environmental conservation as their goal. Two concepts at the heart of ecofeminism are:
·         that social and environmental issues are interconnected, and
·         that the injustices women and the environment are subjected to worldwide both originate, at least in part, from the patriarchal undertones and history of current societies (Schmonsky 2012).
So, adoption of ecofeminist thinking creates a moral imperative to address discriminatory measures within our current socio-economic paradigm. Following this, human diversity- in terms of gender, environmental ethics and preferred lifestyle- can be expressed more strongly and hence, environmental degradation more successfully mitigated (Mies & Shiva, 1993). Critically, this transformation must involve the shifting of dominant assumptions and attitudes before any productive institutional applications can take place. The case study mentioned below sheds some light on one form this may take.
Including women and considering their needs in the development of environmental management plans- as encouraged by ecofeminism- can help address specific issues that may arise in the realisation of those plans. A case study from the United Kingdom provides an insightful example of how this might work: it uncovered the different ways in which men and women experience waste. Researchers found that women are more likely to be committed to recycling, and more likely to be concerned about the health risks associated with waste incineration (Buckingham 2004). The latter concern was mostly expressed by mothers, who understandably have a heightened mindfulness of the kind of world they intend to leave behind for future generations. Unfortunately, it was also found that community meetings and organisations focused upon waste management were inaccessible to mothers (e.g. made no provision for childcare) and lacked female representation. So, instigating policies that ease the burden of imposed gender roles (which might prevent women from, as illustrated, being more involved in civic duties) would enable them to positively contribute to waste management. As a male-dominated profession, waste management was concluded to be improvable through the achievement of further gender equality. Better public participation procedures, consultations and internal training policies involving women were suggested pathways to accomplishing this (Buckingham 2004).
Outside of the UK, such equality-promoting environmental policies would benefit from recognising that in certain regions, women’s work is closely related to environmental management (e.g. the work of women farmers in Vietnam (Andutan 2016)). Ecofeminism stresses that this wisdom should be taken advantage of in ways that benefit local communities and the environment.
This leads on to how ecofeminist ideas can address the limits of feminist practices which lack an ecological outlook. Humanity’s close relationship with nature is emphasised in cultural ecofeminism, a school of thought that embraces emotional and biological associations of women with the environment. This perspective developed as an alternative to radical ecofeminism, which sees the female-nature relationship as a social construct, fabricated to degrade women (Miles 2013). As an aside; I personally see the merit of aspects of both approaches, although I have explored cultural ecofeminism a little more as its pagan roots intrigue me. One article involving cultural ecofeminist undertones asserts that any praxis aiming to emancipate women is futile if it does not recognise the intimate relationship between human beings, animals and ecological systems (Lee 2006). As we become ever more informed about how conventional modes of development are increasingly affecting the welfare of ecosystems, defining freedom solely in terms of human welfare is rendered immoral and feeble. Our understanding of the ways in which we need nature; our acknowledgement of its intrinsic value, should lead us to recognise that an emancipation whose cost is the extinction and expropriation of nonhuman others is indefensible.
Epic challenges lie ahead if we want to make the progress on issues of climate justice needed for a safer, more beautiful future world. But hope can be found in the fact that, as women, we’ve faced countless overwhelming challenges before, and emerged triumphant. I find hope in our unique knowledge and experiences, and the tangible differences these can make when applied. I find hope when I remember that, going into the future, we’ll always have each other.
For further reading I’d recommend Womankind magazine’s ‘Gyrfalcon’ edition as an introduction to ecofeminism, as well as the articles referred to in this piece.
