Top Tips For Finding The Best Deals On Cars For Sale
If you're looking for a great deal on a car, there are many places to start. You can check online to see what your local dealerships have available and compare prices. If you have time to visit several dealerships in person before getting serious about buying, then that's great too!
The most important thing to do is research ahead of time so that you know what type of vehicle you want and roughly how much money it should cost before walking into any dealership or talking with anyone on the phone about purchasing a vehicle.
Research the Market Value of the Car You Want to Buy
Researching the market value of your car is an important part of finding the best epping used car for sale. You can do this by researching similar cars that are currently being sold, as well as their prices and features.
You may also want to research the value of your own vehicle, so you can compare it with other similar vehicles on the market and determine whether or not it's worth selling your current car versus buying another one from a dealer or private seller.
Shop Around and Compare Prices from Different Sellers
When you're shopping for a car, it's important to look around and compare prices from different sellers. You can do this by searching online marketplaces like Craigslist or eBay Motors.
You might also consider getting in touch with friends and family members who may know of any cars for sale in Epping. If you see an ad that looks promising, don't hesitate to reach out directly via telephone or email (if there's contact information).
If the seller doesn't have an answer right away, ask if they can get back to you later--they may have just stepped out of their office or home but will respond as soon as possible!
Consider Buying Used or Certified Pre-Owned Cars
If you're looking to save money on your next car, consider buying a used or certified pre-owned vehicle. These cars are often cheaper than new ones, but they come with all the same features and warranties that a brand-new car would have.
There are also many used car dealerships available in most cities so you can find exactly what you need without having to travel far from home.
Negotiate and Seal the Deal with the Seller
Negotiating the price is an important part of buying a car. The seller may be willing to drop the price if you ask for certain things, such as warranty, cleaning, and delivery services or even having your mechanic inspect the car for free before buying it.
If you've managed to negotiate down the price of your new ride and everything looks good on paper, then seal that deal by meeting up with them in person.
Make sure they have all of your paperwork ready so they don't take advantage of you while getting yourself ready!
Conclusion
If you're looking to buy a car, it can be a stressful process. There are so many things to consider, from what kind of vehicle you want and how much money you have available, all the way down to which dealership offers the best deals on those cars.
However, if you follow our tips for finding the best deals on cars for sale at Epping then we guarantee that buying will become much easier!

Goddamn it Kyra I wasn't even interested in the Lego Lokis before, but now that you've so rudely posted pics of the options I'm probably going to have to buy some. So, couple questions: I'm not familiar with the website you linked to (it doesn't help that I'm on my phone lol) - do you get them from that site or just Aliexpress? I've kind of poked around there but I don't think I've ever actually bought anything - do you have links to those ones you bought or any tips for finding them on the site? (or like. using the site in general without getting scammed or something? Idk much about it other than stuff being low priced lol).
😇😇😇
putting the rest behind a cut because oops this got long
OKAY SO the cool thing about knockoff Lego figures is that a) there are a ton of them, so you can probably find multiple versions of most characters, and b) they're super cheap, so if you do end up getting ripped off, you're probably only out a few bucks. plus if you don't get ripped off, you feel like a genius, because authentic Lego minifigs tend to cost way more than they should (and if you get them online, you probably don't have a good way to know that they're authentic) and here you are getting something just as good or better for way less.
the site I was getting pictures from is HeroBloks, which I only just discovered myself a couple days ago; it looks like mostly it's good for tracking your collection (and learning more about bootleg Lego minifigs in general, maybe--I didn't really realize until now how many different companies there are making Lego-like minifigs) rather than buying, with individual pages including sale links that are only mildly useful. like, the extremely sad TVA Loki has an AliExpress search link that apparently just searches for "blocks," which is the least helpful search term imaginable; the eBay link uses "xinh+xh1745+loki (tva)" as the search term and that's definitely better, although it doesn't actually turn up anything. maybe that one's too new to be widely available yet, I don't know. (I hope that's the case. I need him and his sad little face to come and live with me.)
anyway--eBay is a possible source. searching for "loki minifigure" gets me results for several of the new ones I’ve been seeing, and they all seem to be shipping from Japan or South Korea. the problem is they're all selling for $4.99 plus $7.49 shipping each, which is...more than I want to spend on something I know is a knockoff of some kind when I don't know anything about the quality control and I'm not guaranteed to get what's in the picture. (here's another listing asking $40 total for all 8 figures I bought yesterday, which is actually a better price, and I'd probably end up doing that if I hadn't found them elsewhere, but that's because I have a problem.)
this is why I like AliExpress, because the risks are slightly higher but the prices tend to be much lower, even with shipping prices having gone up a bit over the last couple years. as I understand it, the site is basically just a huge marketplace for tons of different sellers in Asia, like if eBay only allowed fixed-price listings and it was based in China. the vast majority of the site reads like it went through Google Translate, because it probably did. you can find...basically anything there. I have no idea if any of it's authentic. (I also don't know anything about how or where any of the knockoff stuff is made, so...there is that.) I would not, for instance, drop $300 on a Hot Toys Loki from here, even though I absolutely would have the option to do so, for the obvious reason that I'm not going to risk that much money on an item that might be a cheap knockoff or could arrive broken. there is, in general, a solid possibility of breakable things arriving broken, because decent packaging costs more. cheap shipping will be slow (by which I mean like...up to 90 days), and most purchases either won't have tracking at all or won't have accurate tracking, so this is absolutely not a place to buy anything you want to get quickly. you also don't want to just buy something and forget about it, because there are (variable but generous) time limits past which you can't get a refund if you don't receive your items. the site's UI is...mostly functional. you often have to get a little creative with your search terms to find what you want (and sometimes you won’t find what you want through searching, but through looking at related items on the pages of things that aren’t quite what you want or are what you want but aren’t a good price). you will, absolutely, come across a lot of stolen art on things like pins, t-shirts, stickers, and phone cases, which you might not realize until you see something you recognize from a fanartist you like, and obviously that sucks. listing photos are nearly always stock photos, so in many cases they won't tell you anything about the item you're actually getting. you know the Wish app, and all the crazy things people get from that? you can find all the same stuff on AliExpress, at similar levels of quality.
however, if you approach it keeping all that in mind, it can be a great resource. I can't make any guarantees about the site's safety, but to the best of my knowledge it's secure and I've never had any weird charges show up after buying something. it's also my understanding that Alibaba, the parent company, is more or less the Chinese equivalent of Amazon in terms of the amount of business it does, which would probably be pretty tough if customer data were routinely being exposed to thieves, you know? I've also successfully gotten several refunds for items that never arrived, which actually hasn't happened all that often--but knowing that it can happen and that the return period expires, I’ll check back on the site if it seems like it’s been an unusually long time and I’ll make a reminder for myself of the deadline so I can contact the seller in time if necessary.
so the way I shop there is, I don't buy expensive or fragile things in general, because I recognize there's a nonzero chance I'll get a cheap knockoff, or something that was broken in transit because the seller tossed it in a box with no padding and called it good, or sometimes nothing at all. but like eBay, the sellers and items have ratings and reviews from customers, so that helps avoid some risk. items with lots of reviews tend to include at least a few customer photos, which are great for getting a better idea of what the thing you're buying actually looks like. I took a bit of a risk last year buying a Hot Toys (or the equivalent, I actually have no idea) Steve Rogers head for about $20, for instance, but I wasn't super worried about it because the customer photos looked good, the seller I used had a lot of sales and a lot of good ratings, and it was still a lot less than I would've paid for an authentic Hot Toys Steve Rogers head--and in fact he got here just fine and he looked fantastic. I also spent about $20 for a knockoff Iron Studios Loki statue, because in that case it was like...yep I’d love the real thing, nope I’m not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on it, yep I am willing to spend $20 on something that doesn’t look quite as nice but still looks good enough for me in the customer photos. well, and I’ve also bought knockoffs I knew would look bad, because they were cheap and I want all the Lokis and I have enough of an addiction that all the Lokis does in fact sometimes mean “even ones that look really bad” to me.
anyway, uh, Lego-type minifigs. this is an especially good area to go knockoff, because--okay, apparently I can’t link to a page of HeroBloks search results for some reason, but it’s the best resource I’ve found for this type of thing that isn’t just authentic Lego figures. but if you go there and do a search for “loki” you’ll get a bunch of results and you’ll see that they come from like...9 or 10 different brands. Lego specifically has only four Loki options: Avengers Loki in black, Avengers Loki in gray for some reason (which, frankly, looks like a cheap knockoff but isn’t), movie-inaccurate Ragnarok Loki with the blue outfit and the full helmet, an ugly Classic Loki, and a mostly green Loki from I guess the first Thor movie (and then I think they’re going to release a TVA Loki, a Sylvie, and a Throg). all those other results--all those different outfits from every single Loki appearance, and different variations on those outfits, nearly all of them more screen-accurate and/or detailed than the Lego versions--are technically knockoffs. they’re better and you can buy them for way less. (I mean, a lot of them are new so I don’t have them yet, but I do have frost giant Loki, better Ragnarok Loki, better Avengers Loki, opera Loki who actually has another face that’s half-Jotun, and at least one chrome-helmet option, and they all look basically like the photos. so I think I can reasonably expect most of the new ones to look basically like their photos too.)
for reasons that I don’t understand aside from a vague guess that it’s copyright-related, AliExpress pretty much no longer shows full pictures of Lego-type figures in their listings--instead, you have to pick just based on the heads. this is a problem when lots of heads look very similar to each other! luckily, the listings also typically have the actual serial numbers for each figure, as do the HeroBloks listings, so you can cross-reference them to see what you’re really getting. for instance let’s take this listing because it’s cheap and it offers most of the Loki figures that are currently available. say you’re interested in one of the horn-less Lokis. there are...let’s see, five of them, but you have no idea what they actually look like aside from slightly different facial expressions and maybe weapons. however, the first one listed says XH1359 for its color...and what do you know, 1359 is the serial number for this Loki by a company called Xinh. okay cool, how about the last one? the “color” is listed as WM2182--and yes, HeroBloks has a listing for a Ragnarok Loki from World Minifigures with the serial number 2182. (I just ordered all 8 of the new World Minifigures ones yesterday, so again, I can’t personally guarantee yet that they’ll look as good in person as in the pictures--but I think they probably will, and more importantly they cost a whole dollar each.) and if HeroBloks doesn’t have a particular figure, you can probably find something useful just by googling the serial number.
I specifically bought from this listing yesterday because they currently have a bit of a sale going and a deal for free shipping if you buy 10 figures, and I wanted a couple duplicates, so it worked out to be the cheapest option. the same store has another listing for a bunch more Marvel characters, including a couple more Lokis I already had, so it should be pretty easy to get the free shipping so the figures are less than a dollar each and you’re only risking about $10. if you’d rather try one or two and see how it goes, it looks like this listing is probably the cheapest, with figures currently going for a little over a dollar each once you add shipping (although it’s totally possible shipping is more for me because Alaska).
that’s...probably already way more information than you really wanted, but I hope at least some of it makes sense. feel free to ask other specific questions if they come up--I might not be able to give answers exactly, but I can probably tell you what my experience has been, which is better than nothing.

Last thing you bought online? Did you like it? OMG OMG so I got Angela an Army Bomb!!!!!! for her birthday!!!! It was HELLLL looking for sealed ones that were already onhand, but fortunately I was able to find one from this really nice seller a few days ago and the shipping was quick as well. I’m just a little worried because the outbox has a little dent on it :( but it was the best onhand offer I could find so I got it before anybody could call dibs. I still hope she likes it! I got her batteries too so that she can try lighting it up as soon as she has it. :D
Could you date someone who didn’t drive (and didn’t show an interest in ever getting their license, either)?  I feel like this is such a petty thing to make a big deal about...if they knew how to commute or any other way to get to their destination, I don’t think this should be a problem. It would only be an issue to me if they refused to get a license in a very I-generally-lack-ambition kind of way.
How would you react if your artwork became famous?  I don’t have any to show off to begin with. I love appreciating art, but creating it was never a forte of mine.
Would you get your nipples pierced?  No, I don’t plan on getting any piercings. How many people know your birthday?  Outside of my family, my best friends. I think everyone else relies on Facebook to be reminded, which is fine with me.
Has anyone ever tried to ruin a relationship you were in?  No. Quite the contrary, really...I was sometimes informed about red flags taking place, which of course my stubborn ass ignored.
Have you ever watched a whole hour long infomercial?  Probably, as a kid. The channel from which I used to watch WWE aired these really long infomercials so I would watch those while waiting for like Raw or whatever show was going on after.
What is your current MySpace song?  I never hung out on Myspace. I had an account, but I was too young for it so it wasn’t long before I got bored.
What is your favorite kind of meat to put on your sandwich?  Pulled pork or fried chicken.
Which one of your exes do you feel like you have the most chemistry with?  I only have one ex.
How do you feel about people who make Facebook profiles for their pets? I find it really cute. But I personally wouldn’t put in as much effort lol.
Have you ever personally known a pair of conjoined twins?  Hmmmmmmmm I don’t think so.
What was the most disturbing thing you have ever heard your mother say? She threatened suicide in front of me and my dad in a very calm way when I was around 11, I think? Maybe 12, idk. I haven’t actually thought about that moment in an extremely long time until this question. I’ll move on now and shove the memory at the very very back of my head before I get sad.
Is there something in particular you like to look at photos of? What is it?  Aside from members of BTS (lol), interior design inspirations.
Chewy chocolate-chip cookies: like or dislike?  Ooh, love. When I bite into a cookie it hassssss to ooze chocolate, otherwise I would be underwhelmed.
If your boyfriend/girlfriend wanted to dress only in the opposite sex’s clothing, would you support that? If not, would you leave them?  Support.
Do you think your grandmother is/was beautiful?  They both are.
Which of your fields of interest are you a total expert on?  Anything that has to do with writing (except poems), I guess? I like being able to give people advice and tips when it comes to that.
When was the last time you got all dolled up?  Last July when we had a big PR media launch thingy and I couldn’t afford to look like shit on Zoom.
Do you ever name objects? (i.e. mp3 players, guitars, cars, etc.)  Never.
Do you have a criminal record?  Not criminal but it’s possibleeeee that I have some kind of record on my license from the time I got stopped by an officer in Alabang, lmao. It was a minor offense from a tiny part of the town so I don’t actually know if they filed it, but it’s possible.
Last person you took a nap with?  I don’t really nap with other people. I hate falling asleep in front of others to begin with.
Does seeing your mother cry automatically make you feel sad as well?  No.
Do you think someone likes the same person you like?  I don’t like anybody.
Do you want your life to stay the way it is right now forever?  No, I do not want to stay in a pandemic and not get to maximize my life the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed forever.
Have you ever been to craigslist.com?  I’ve never checked it out; idk if we have that here?
What about eBay?  I also dunno if they operate here so no, I’ve never bothered.
Have you ever used Nair?  Not Nair, but I’ve used Veet before.
Are you medicated?  Nope.
Do you shape/fill in your eyebrows?  I never do stuff to my eyebrows except shave them.
Have you ever stolen/borrowed clothes from an ex?  Several articles of clothing were left behind here, yeah. I never had the chance to give them back because I stupidly thought we were going to get back together eventually. By the time I moved on the timing was already off, so the clothes stayed with me untillll...just a few days ago, actually – when I finally cleaned up my room and got rid of a bunch of knickknacks that accumulated here over the years, including all her shirts and sweaters and stuff.
Could you make a statement about anything political?  The 2022 presidential election landscape looks like complete shit and I’m nearly at that point where I want to stop giving a fuck about this country’s future.
Do you think you’ve already met your soulmate?  No.
Do you get the feeling something good will happen in your life soon?  I think I’m already living in it, haha.
Do you enjoy romantic movies, even when they’re cliche?  Sure, but cliché is also hit and miss for me. I love Titanic and Love Actually, but I cannot stand movies like Me Before You and The Notebook. I guess it depends on certain executions, like the acting, screenplay, casting, etc.
Have you been to McDonald’s in the past month?  No, not inside. We did drive-thru within the last month, though.
Have you ever slept over at your best friend’s house?  Not at Andi’s, but I have at Angela’s.
How often do you go bowling?  Extremely rarely. I can’t tell you the last time I went bowling.
Last time you were in an apartment?  Like 2007 when I visited my aunt back when she still lived in one. None of my friends have their own apartments.
Have you ever seen a live seahorse?  I don’t think so.
Would you like to have your own yacht? I mean I wouldn't say no if you offered it to me for free, but I'm not exactly interested in one. < Same.
Winnie the Pooh or Tigger?  Tigger always made me laugh as a kid.
What’s the unhealthiest thing you’ve eaten today?  Luncheon meat, I think? I didn’t go overboard with the junk food today.
Has a stranger ever offered to buy you a drink?  Hm, not that I can recall.
What is something you’d be happy to receive as a gift, that doesn’t cost a lot?  A bag of the salted egg chips that I really like costs like 30 bucks, or roughly 60 US cents.
What kind of music does your significant other/crush like to listen to?  I don’t have any irl crushes, can I use a celebrity crush instead? HAHA he’s heavily into jazz and whenever he gets asked for music recos he always gives jazz artists from like the 50s and 60s.
Who did you have your first kiss with? Do you remember what colour his/her eyes were?  Gab. Dark brown.
Are there any themes from TV shows that you like to sing along to? The Big Bang Theory and Friends; and then I also liked humming to the themes of Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and BoJack Horseman. The Phineas & Ferb theme was also a lot of fun to sing along to.

What was the last animal that you saw?  Dog.
What was the last thing that you said to one of your siblings?  I just told my sister I was done using her laptop so she can have it back. My Memories of 2020 DVD turned out to be region-locked so I have to use her laptop every time I want to watch it :(
What is the most expensive thing that you’ve purchased that you paid for:  My Map of the Soul photobook cost me around 5k in total.
What is your favorite messaging program?  Messenger.
Do you eat fast food more than 5 times a week?  Wow no. Aside from being extremely unhealthy, that’s also a LOT of spending??
Have you ever almost drowned?  Yes.
Have you ever learned something shocking about someone through Facebook?  I mean I’ve had to learn about more than one family death through my Facebook feed, which sucks but is nothing I have control over. Otherwise the most shocking thing I’ve seen is probably classmates from high school having their own kids, but at this point I’m used to it already.
What’s the scariest living animal that you’ve petted?  I’m not really afraid of carrying/petting animals especially if there’s a guide or expert nearby, but the most daring one was probably the crocodile I volunteered to hold in Palawan.
Do you remember the first conversation you ever had with the person you currently have feelings for?  Not at all.
Do you dread certain days of the week? If yes, what day/s and why?  I hate Mondays for obvious reasons lol. I don’t know anyone who is actively cheery about reporting back to work.
If you eat oatmeal, do you have it plain or do you have certain toppings that you like to add to it?  I never eat oatmeal. I had that every single day for breakfast from like kindergarten to 4th grade and I vowed never to take a spoonful of it again.
What is the funniest or strangest thing you’ve ever heard somebody say in their sleep?  I dunno. I used to keep a log of the things my ex used to say in her sleep and a great deal of them were hilarious, but obviously I deleted that note a long time ago.

Enjoy Shopping Online By Using This Advice
เซ็กทอยเซ็กทอยThere is nothing like a bit of online shopping to bring out the bargain hunter in anybody. The key to really making online shopping pay, however, is to fully understand the most effective เซ็กทอย strategies and tactics involved. Keep reading to learn how you can maximize your bounty by following a few critical steps.
When shopping frequently online, ensure that your anti-malware is current and powerful. Hackers and other ne'er-do-wells often target popular shopping websites to phish for identification and account information. Pay attention to any red flags that your software indicates about specific sites and notify the webmaster of any shopping website where you notice suspicious goings-on.
You should never, ever give out your personal social security number while shopping online. This information is simply not needed to buy something online. Leave immediately if you are asked to provide this information- the site you are on is a scam. Click out of that site, and go to a site with good reputations.
When shopping for a certain item, check several different online stores. Many times with a little searching, you can save as much as 25 percent. Look at a variety of websites to make sure you are getting the best deal. When figuring each website's price, make sure you include shipping costs into your calculations.
Get familiar with the shipping facts of an online retailer. Their shipping policy should be outlined in a separate section to describe the average time you should get your items, geographic restrictions, shipping choices, possible shipping insurance, and what their shipping and handling fees are. Use all of this information to decide if these costs and options fit well for you, your budget, and your area before you place an order.
If you are not sure whether or not an online store is reliable, contact their customer service. Ask a few questions about the products, the payment method and the shipping. If you do not get a good impression after talking with a representative on the phone, find another online store.
If you do a lot of online shopping, consider investing in anti-virus software. Most Internet users are bargain hunters. As you search for discount codes and deals, you may inadvertently stumble across a virus. Also, if you are looking for an obscure product or service, you may be redirected to some questionable sites as well. Your software can help direct you to safety.
Only shop at online retail sites that เซ็กทอย you trust. It is all too easy for someone to just create a storefront on the web with some product information to sell merchandise. Do some research on the retailer's reputation before you provide any credit card information. This will help you avoid any scams out there.
If you shop with particular online dealers, try planning your purchases around the times when they offer free shipping, if they have it. Shipping is a major cost when it comes to online shopping, and sometimes that can make a cheaper order much more expensive. Getting free shipping on your items can save you a lot of money, which you can use for other items, so you should take advantage of it when it's offered.
Look for the lock in your browser when you are shopping online. This indicates that the website is secure and your information is safe. While nothing can be fool-proof, it sure does help you to have this safety mechanism.
When making an online shopping purchase from a site like Ebay, make sure to pay attention to the sellers feedback and statistics. If a seller has a low score, you should probably try to avoid dealing with them entirely. Look for sellers who have a lot of positive feedback.
Encourage your teenagers to do some of their own shopping online. If you give your kids a prepaid credit card, they can buy some of their own school clothes on the Internet. You can keep track of where they're spending their money with the prepaid card's history functions, and they don't have you hanging around while they pick things out.
One site which offers great deals every day is Woot.com. At midnight central time they post an item at a super discounted price, and you have to grab them while they are available. Not only is this fun to do, it can save you a bundle on electronics and computer hardware.
There are a lot of phishing scams that look just like online stores. These scammers usually operated by เซ็กทอย sending  emails to promote a good deal to customers along with a link to their fake online store. Your credit card information will be stolen once you purchase an item from the fake site. Be careful when following links from emails.
Online shopping is a terrific method of having an amazing array of products at your fingertips while also getting the very best prices around. All you need is some good, solid information and you can be on your way. With any luck, the material presented above has helped you get going.

Wikileaks Email Shows Man Emailing Intelligence Contractor to Ask About Iraqi Dinar, Vietnamese Dong Revaluations (RVs)
What documents has Wikileaks published relating to the rumored IQD/VND RVs? (Part 1)
By: Peter Egan Jr.
A 2010 email published to Wikileaks’ “Global Intelligence Files” shows what appears to be a random man emailing an employee of a Texas-based intelligence contractor to inquire about what his firm knew or didn’t know regarding the long-rumored revaluation (”RV”), essentially a massive and instantaneous change to the foreign exchange rate of a national currency. Technically, a country can revalue its currency to either increase or decrease the value of the currency, however in this context, with these two particular countries it’s typically discussed in the context of an upward trajectory being the bullish position among speculators. This is the case even as Iraq just this past couple week devalued the Dinar relative to the US dollar.
Tumblr media
The dinar trade on third-party sites like eBay, where users buy and sell Iraqi Dinar at generally inflated prices, is alive and as healthy as ever. At one point in July and August sellers were fetching nearly 300% of the actual exchange rate, and are still selling for much more than IQD has traditionally traded for on secondary markets, although the price has subsided a bit, largely due to a giant increase in supply after word made its way around the Dinar forums and YouTube shows about how much IQD was selling for, while demand has dipped with many investors and speculators possessing a common misconception that the 2020 Presidential election was won by the candidate who actually lost (badly). Dinar speculators have a very large faction who believe that the Iraq currency’s relative worth is to be decided in large part whether the incumbent US President remains in office. Even still, comparing the exchange rate Xe lists against the market rate as determined by the amount IQD is actually trading for againt various other currencies leaves a surprisingly wide gap that begs the question of why the market is willing to pay so much more than it (the market) is being told the high-risk, speculative investment is worth.
If we take the email Mike Whims of the now-defunct Rare Buyer LLC sent to Solomon Foshko of Stratfor, which Wikileaks described as a “global intelligence firm” headquartered in Texas, it likely has something to do with a long-rumored revaluation of one or both of Iraq and Vietnam’s currencies.
Tumblr media
Whims in a 2010 email to “[email protected]” that ultimately made its way to Foshko, who appears to have no prior connection to Whims and whose position reads “Global Intelligence,” wrote the following:
Email subject: “STRATFOR Group Sales - Inquiry”
Email Body:
“Interested in foreign currency revaluations. My current interest lies with Iraq and Vietnam. Do you have any analysis that might help determine when a currency revaluation may occur such as what happened with the Kuwaiti dinar?”
The message made its way to Mr. Foshko, who replied with the following:
Mr. Whims, I have forwarded your question to our analysts. They may contact you. I did a search of current analysis available on our site, but did not find anything related to the Kuwaiti dinar. Regards, Solomon Foshko Global Intelligence STRATFOR T: 512.744.4089 F: 512.473.2260 [email protected]
I reached out to both parties via email (this is New Year’s Day so I am reluctant to call until Monday) to request comment and additional information and clarification. Neither has replied as of this story being published. That said, I don’t expect either to reply on New Years Day, and will update this story with any replies should either or both respond to my inquiry.
Stratfor knew (or thought they knew) something regarding an IQD RV by 2011
Another Stratfor email exchange published to Wikileaks references a plan by the Iraqi government to remove three zeros from the currency, a plan which ultimately failed and for which the then-Iraqi government suffered heavy criticism.
Kamran Bokhari writes in an email to Stratfor analysts:
There is a plan to drop the three zeros off the current Iraqi Dinar as part of an effort to raise its value. So if someone has the old currency (the one printed after the fall of the Baathist regime in 2003) and turns it in will he/she get the same amount of dinars or will they get less as per the difference in value?
Bokhari was speaking of the plan by the Iraqi government as described by Albawaba as: “a plan to remove three zeros from the dinar, replacing current banknotes with new ones.“
Tumblr media
The article touches upon the inherent difficulties and challenges faced by a nation the size of Iraq in a project of such a massive undertaking as a total currency revaluation.
According to Mazhar Mohammad Saleh, an expert in the Iraqi Central Bank, in a speech with the ALHAYAT of London, “our problem lies in the timing of the currency exchange, as we need to select a suitable time for implementing the project without obstacles.”
The Central Bank planned to remove three zeros from the Iraqi dinar, after suffering from inflation and the decline of the currency during the nineties, due to economic sanctions.
The following quote from the story is also noteworthy:
The most important change after deleting the zeros, is to reduce the number of banknotes in circulation, simplifying the payment system in Iraq.
In the second paragraph quoted, the article claims (accurately, IMHO) that the decline of the Iraqi Dinar is directly tied to economic sanctions stemming from Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Then in the final paragraph quoted, the article states that the most important step once “deleting the zeros” is to reduce the number of banknotes in circulation.
That last part is significant. If the United States Treasury does in fact hold untold trillions or even quadrillions of Iraqi Dinars from the initial postwar “currency swap,” and/or all of the USD auctions and USD cash pallets delivered to the Central Bank of Iraq, a number known to be at least $40 billion USD as of 2008, and that number has only increased in the 13 years since, although the US government has not revealed by how much or even how much IQD it holds period; then untold trillions could be removed from circulation just by the US exchanging their Dinars back for US Dollars and/or digital currency assets following a revaluation. Iraq could repossess those Dinars and have a giant bonfire with them, at least in theory. Then there are all of the American, Canadian, British and Australian currency speculators who hold IQD in their portfolios who would be looking to swap their suddenly valuable IQD for a currency they can use to buy and sell. While that number surely pales in comparison to the US Government’s holdings, it’s still likely nothing to scoff at, particularly in 2020 with Americans having nearly two decades of hearing about how the Iraqi Dinar would experience a rate change that would lead to windfall profits for American currency speculators. The Dinar is trading at 2.5 times its value (as defined by exchange rate) in US-based secondary marketplaces. One such marketplace where American consumers buy Iraqi Dinars is eBay. Compare those prices to the prices listed at Xe when you look up the formal exchange rate.
It’s been three decades since the economic sanctions that crippled the IQD were enacted and there seems to be a growing global consensus that it’s time to revisit the sanctions and review whether or nor they’re still appropriate and still serve a purpose that isn’t entirely punitively enacted against people, many of whom weren’t even alive when the events that provoked the enacting of the sanctions occurred.
To recap, we know that in 2011, Iraq did plan to at a bare minimum redenominate its currency. Some would argue that the 2011 plan constitutes a revaluation. Semantics aside, if the sanctions are what crashed the currency and have hindered it for three decades, if those sanctions are lifted simultaneously with a major rate change accompanied by Iraq repossessing hundreds of trillions of Dinars from citizens and countries across the globe and presumably removing them from circulation, there’s definitely an argument to be made that the concept of the “Iraq Dinar revaluation” is anything but a scam, and may not only be very real, but also very plausible despite the fact that elements within the media will tell anyone who will listen that Iraq’s situation with its currency bears no resemblance to the 1990-1991 Kuwaiti currency situation and that the same outcome is not possible in Iraq.
Tumblr media
If it does finally happen in 2021, and there’s a lot of smoke that would seem to suggest that 2021 might be the year of the Dinar, the “Dinar Scam,” as it’s come to be known, will be remembered as all the people, publications and networks who for the better part of a decade have tried their best to convince anyone who will read or listen that investing in the Iraq Dinar is something only stupid people do, and that smart intellectuals like those in the media like to ridicule such simpletons while at their cocktail parties in their ivory towers.
It would be an end to the saga all too fitting considering that the same people calling the Dinar RV a scam are the world’s premiere pathological liars and have a proven track record of being among the most intellectually dishonest people in all of humanity.

Figure Buying Guide
There are many Date a Live figures out there and too many times I’ve seen fans pay too much, get bootlegs, or can’t find them. I decided to make a guide based on how I buy figures to help! This guide is based on my own experience so it isn’t an official guide. Everyone has their own way of doing things so don’t think this is the only one. I just wanted to post some information to let people know where to start.
Definitions
There are different terms in the figure community. I will use the terms that MFC uses to organize their information.
Prepainted- These figures generally don’t move. Some have interchangeable parts that allow different posing options.
Action- These figures have movable parts a like a doll or action figure. They also have many interchangeable parts to allow for creative posing. The most popular ones are Nendoroids and Figmas.
Bootleg- These are counterfeit products that are made by other companies and typically sold at cheap prices.
GSC- Good Smile Company, perhaps the most successful figure company right now. I promise you have seen at least one of their figures.
MFC- The best website ever for gathering information of fan merchandise. You can make a profile to keep track of things you want. Here is my profile if you’re curious to see what you can do on it.
Getting in the Know
The best place to get all figure knowledge is MFC. It has just about every piece of fan merchandise listed along with the information. The best part is that it shows you pictures from the manufacturer and people who bought the figure. That way you can see what it looks like in someone’s collection instead of  a fancy studio. It also lists the retailers and users who are selling that figure. You can check out this GSC Tohka figure here.
Tumblr media
Familiarize yourself with the price!! I CANNOT stress that enough!! If a figure’s selling price was $130 and you see it for sale at $300 chances are you are paying too much. There are rare figures out there where they sell for 10x the original price, but that is a different lesson.
Bootlegs
Some people are fine with bootlegs and that’s ok. Not all of them are ugly and terrible. For some people, it is a cheaper alternative to pricey originals. It is still important to be able to spot the difference. Later on I’ll go into how to avoid buying one. Spotting a bootleg can sometimes be pretty obvious while others aren’t.
This is an example offered by GSC. The bootleg has a shinier face, the ribbons are darker and larger, and Yoshinon has a darker mouth. If you want to know if a certain figure you want has a bootleg, please check out MFC. It will provide pictures and information. You can also search for comparisons. There are many guides out there.
Tumblr media
Buying a Newly Announced Figure
If a figure was just announced, it will be available for pre-order at different retailers. MFC shows retail options but you can research your own as well. Depending on the type and the series’ popularity, it may be available at many stores. You can order directly from the retailer or through a different company.
Retailers are based in different locations and some release figures at different times. While one may release the figure when it come out in Japan, others may wait until the product is available in their country before shipping. For example, When I bought this figure from Anime Blvd stationed in America, they had to wait until GSC sent them the figures and then sent it to their customers. So I had to wait a couple extra months until I was able to get it.
The website I now use is called AmiAmi. It allows you to pre-order a figure without paying upfront and offers multiple shipping options (from “I want it by tomorrow” to “I can wait a month”). I prefer Ami for it’s low prices, many shipping options, active customer service, and no down payment requirement. While some retailers will take your payment information and not charge you until the release date, Ami always sends out a payment request so you can pay when it’s best for you.
Sometimes you’ll get a bonus for ordering from a certain website. There are also figures that have exclusive retailers so you may not have a choice. In this example, you can see that the figure comes with a bonus poster. You can only get it if you buy it from Ami though. Check it out here.
Tumblr media
Buying Released Figures
This is where I see many fans trip up. It’s hard to find a figure that has already been released. In some cases, it’s as easy as looking on a retailer website. In the previous example, that figure was released in early 2020 but Ami is still able to sell it. That’s great! Most of the time, it’s not that easy.
I always check MFC for user sales. It’s great to buy from fellow figure fans and see pictures of the product itself rather than official pictures. There was one friendly seller that allowed me to pay in installments rather than all at once (I don’t want to talk about that experience. Don’t fall in love with rare figures).
This Kurumi figure was originally sold at $133 when it was released in 2019. Sadly I didn’t pre-order it in time, so I had to checked MFC and found someone selling it a few months later for $185. That wasn’t bad at all. A little markup is to be expected for a product no longer available. Here are the current sales for that figure. I personally find $275 to be too much, but everyone has their own sales preference.
Tumblr media
Avoiding Bootlegs
I haven’t bought many released figures from anywhere other than MFC after I found it. I have never bought a bootleg on MFC. Payment is done through PayPal so there is the buyer’s protection. However, I HAVE bought bootlegs from the following retailers.
For a time, I used eBay but carefully!  Remember what the original selling price for the figure was. If it’s being sold for way cheaper, chances are it may be a bootleg. Also, it is best to pick a seller who provides pictures of the figure itself and not just the photos the manufacturer released. This way you can see what you will actually be getting. Out of these two, I’d look more into the second one. The price makes sense and there’s photos of the actual figure.
Tumblr media
Amazon is another website I advice caution on. Look at the seller!!! This right here is sold by GSC so you’d probably be safe. I one time bought a Nendoroid from Amazon once thinking “Hey it’s amazon so I have to get the original, right?” Nope.
Tumblr media
Action
Action figures are a lot easier to shop for, even if they are released.  Nendoroids and Figmas are two action categories made by GSC that can be found in many common places. Even Walmart and Gamestop have some! Still, always be cautious as seen in the examples I just provided.
Final Advice
The best advice I have for figure buying is to pre-order. If you pre-order from a good retailer you will always get the genuine product for the standard price. If you want something already released, go with MFC.
Just gather your information. Don’t be swayed by the waifu love. I promise you, unless you’re eye is on a rare figure, it will still be there after your research.  You’ll know it’s rare if basically no retailer has it. (Try finding the Elfen Lied figures. I dare you) Look at pictures from buyers so you can see what they actually look like. I have gotten figures that looked prettier online than they were in person.
This is the internet, you can always ask your questions. Ask on MFC or send them to me!

Psssst do you happen to have any tips or beginners links for newbies who are interested in getting in to the BJD hobby? 👀
*SOFT SCREECH* ALICE COME DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WITH ME... /CLAMBERS FOR
This is a very slap-dash tips post, because a full fledged crash-course would take me much longer than a day to assemble. I think this could get someone started, but I can always answer specific questions if you have them in the future. ❤️
BJD 101: For a rundown of definitions, terminology, and origins of the hobby, I highly recommend checking out the Wikipedia article. (Warning for old vaguely spooky doll photos) I honestly wish I just read this when I got started, haha. It’s not everything, but it’s definitely a start.
Study! Read as much as you possibly can!! Especially terminology and maintenance. I highly recommend watching a bunch of unboxing and review videos- it might seem silly, but they're really helpful to get an idea of scale, how they function/pose, and how they look and feel when handled by a human. I also recommend trying to find owner photos of dolls you’re interested in, because sometimes the store photos are limited!
Join a community! Consider joining a forum like den of angels or a facebook bjd group like BJD Addicts! Exposure to the hobby is really helpful and you learn way faster. It’s fine if you’re shy, you don’t have to interact if you don’t want to- I like lurking DoA for the valuable tutorials and threads on doll brands I'm interested in. Tip: You can view some of DoA’s threads without an account by searching "[subject/doll of choice] den of angels" in google, but i got tired of that pretty fast. Signing up takes a few weeks to get approved but it's worth it for all the knowledge, even old archived stuff.
Window-shop until you drop!! I think the number one regret in the hobby is 'too many dolls, not enough time to love any of them'. So I HIGHLY recommend making wish-lists. These help a lot with avoiding impulse purchases and buyer’s remorse. There are a loooot of dolls out there, so if you've seen a huge majority of them, you'll be more picky.
For me, wishlists include both dream/grail dolls, tentative desires i’m not sure about but want to remember the name of, dolls I could never afford but feel validated writing down somewhere, and also cataloging info- measurements, wig/eye/shoe sizes, resin colors, price, current availability, dealer websites, etc. it becomes such a godsend when you shop for them. you’ll thank me later!!
I spent a lot of time browsing dealer websites like Alice's Collections, Legenddoll, Denver Doll, DOLK Station, etc- I linked some of those here. This is to see what my tastes are. Not EVERY doll company will go through all or any dealers, but it’s a good start!
If you’re the social type, going to conventions or local bjd meetups can help with getting an idea of your preferences! I accidentally walked by one at sakuracon last year and got to hold an MSD and an 11cm tiny, and that was REALLY helpful for me to realize I DID like those sizes. If other doll owners will let you hold theirs, I totally recommend it! (Always ask first, of course! Not everyone is comfortable with it!)
Go!! Slow!!! if you think you're taking it easy, go even slower. i'm so serious. it's so easy to get dazzled, over-eager, or totally overwhelmed by this hobby. especially if you have a habit of hyper focus/special interest tenancies like i do.
Patience is a virtue anyway: If you’re not buying second-hand or in-stock dolls, you will be waiting a while for your doll. Anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on the company and how backlogged they may be at any given point. Dolls are usually pre-order and take time to be made.
Some people like to just buy sculpts and let a character ‘come to them’, which is absolutely valid so if you wanna just go on a feeling that’s great!! i totally can’t afford that route most of the time, so I spend a lot of time mood-boarding for my potential dolls using pinterest and my own art to see just how in love with an idea i am and highly recommend it. I’ll ramble about this in another post soon.
Budget! They are not very cheap like 10-20$ fashion dolls at wal-mart, so those new to the hobby may be shocked. This hobby is an investment and an indulgence/luxury, as with most Nice Things. But don’t be discouraged! There are affordable dolls out there, a lot of Dealer websites offer layaway plans, and the second-hand market is always circulating things!
Here is a DoA list of dolls that are under 300$.
Note: Size of dolls often scale with price, so the bigger it is, the more expensive (and HEAVY) it will be. Some videos on BJD sizing here and here, but Flickr is crawling with height comparisons as well.
Craft or Not To Craft: Are you team 'i'm gonna sew/craft stuff/do wigs/eyes/faceups for my doll' or team 'i'm gonna buy clothes/props/faceups/wigs/etc from other artists!'? I know most people end up being a little bit of both, but these things both cost time or money (or both) so you wanna think about that in the overall price when you're considering a doll. It seems intimidating, but really, it’s the responsible thing to do. I’d rather plan for it than have a naked sad doll to feel bad about. Some personal recommendations below helped me get started:
Wigs: Monique Gold Collection wigs are affordable in the 20 dollar range, and have incredibly soft fiber! (You can find a lot of these available through ebay sellers as well)
Eyes: Lemonjellyshoppe and CandyKittenEmporium have some incredible eyes and also do custom orders!
Sewing Patterns: DGRequim on etsy and SproutyDoll have both been very nice to use and easy understand and modify to fit your doll!
When you’re savvy on the sizing of your dolls and if you’re comfy with secondhand sales, Facebook groups like BJD Addicts Sales & Commissions, BJD Lovers Sales, and BJD Adoption has a lot of people selling BJDs and accessories, oftentimes discounted for de-stashing or collection overhauls!
In addition to the other dealer sites I linked before, Dollmore (which also has an ebay shop) has a lot of options on everything!
Rec@sts and the community- This is a veeery hot button topic, but you’ll probably see a lot of it the more you get into the hobby. I don’t want to talk about it a lot because of the negativity it attracts, but to sum it up: BJDs are essentially commissioned art pieces. They are hand sculpted by an artist or small group of artists, and then cast in resin and refined and strung by hand. There are people that will cast copies of them and sell them for a very cheap profit. To put it simply, it’s theft, and it effects the livelihood of people that make a living of their art. A lot of companies stop making dolls because they can’t compete anymore. Most official doll/art related conventions (LDoll, Resin Rose, etc) ban rec@sted dolls, as well as DoA and several of the facebook groups. Be sure to read all the rules of groups/forums you join them.
A lot of people come into this hobby unaware of this and buy a bootleg doll on sites like Ebay or Aliexpress, and then get turned away from the community without understanding why. There are understandable circumstances that cause someone to end up with a bootleg doll, but it’s also important to respect the artists and creators that share their art with the public.
On that note: Sometimes people will resell 2nd hand dolls as legit when they are not. Be careful about who you buy second-hand dolls from. Also, keeping certificates of authenticity (CoAs), receipts, and original packaging is must if you ever plan to resell your doll!
I... think that’s everything major I can think of... at least enough to get someone started? I know a lot of it is a bit vague, but if you wanted my opinion on a certain brand or size of doll or budgeting tips if money is tight, I’d be happy to give my personal preferences on that separately!! But otherwise, good luck and happy treasure hunting! ヾ(^-^)ノ

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES & STUDIES, early February 2020
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of recent ecommerce news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & Etsy! This covers articles I came across since the late January report, although some may be older than that. Report is a bit short because I was sick this last week; don’t worry, I used hand sanitizer before typing this up, so you are all safe 🤒
I am currently looking into setting up a new ecommerce business forum where we can discuss this sort of news, as well as any day-to-day issues we face. I need some good suggestions for a cheap or free forum space that has some editing tools, is fairly intuitive for inexperienced members, and is accessible. If you have any suggestions, please reply to this post, email me on my website, or send me a tweet. (I will put out a survey once we narrow this down to some good candidates, but if you have any other comments on what you want from such a forum, please include those too!)
As always, if you see any stories I might be interested in, please let me know!
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
Searchmetrics says Etsy did quite well [podcast & text] in the Google January Core Update, while both Amazon and Walmart lost a little bit. “Who won January? I’m going to say Etsy. Etsy has really done a tremendous job [with Google visibility] over the last two years. Sure, they’ve been on the winning side of the algorithm update, but consistently, being in that a position, from my experience, isn’t by chance.” Here’s more analysis listing the US winners and losers, including by subject category (sadly, not shopping sites). Marie Haynes says that the update likely targeted sites that aren’t properly disclosing affiliate links, as well as some pet health sites.
Since a quarter of Americans have a disability, your website, your products & your marketing should be more accessible. Lots of good ideas in here!
ETSY NEWS
TOU alert: Etsy has banned the sale of spent bullet casings (often used as craft supplies). It’s not clear why. There is a thread from a seller whose listings were pulled here.
The 2020 wedding trends blog post is one of those pieces that is useful to sellers & buyers alike, and is also good for Etsy because it attracts outside articles and links. Some trend & keyword info of interest: ”there has been a 171% increase in searches on Etsy for bridesman items and a 72% increase in searches for best woman items”... “searches for ‘70s invitations increase 18% and searches for disco ball items increase 18%” ...”24% increase in searches for bridal jackets and a 4% increase in searches for women’s pantsuits” …”searches for reused, recycled, or reclaimed wedding items increasing 7%” in the last six months (compared to the same time the previous year).
Etsy released its annual diversity & inclusion report on January 29, getting some media coverage along the way, for example here, here and here.
Reverb hired David Mandelbrot as their new CEO; he most recently ran Indiegogo. (Etsy bought Reverb last year.)
The 4th quarter 2019 results will be out Feb. 26. I am currently planning on doing my usual summary thread in the forum.
Decent overview of product photography for beginners, with some pointers on what Etsy wants you to do with photos. For example, “The recommended size for listing images is 2000px for the shortest side of the image, and a resolution of 72PPI.”
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
So you know what Etsy tags are, but you get confused when people talk about tags for search engines? Read this beginners guide to SEO meta tags. (not needed for Etsy shops, but it is terminology used by some website builder sites, as well as coders of course.)
Data provider Jumpshot will be closing due to the controversies over the revelation that their parent company Avast (the anti-virus software) provided user activity to Jumpshot while perhaps not always fully disclosing this to the users. This will affect some SEO tools that relied on these click stats to generate estimates for traffic & search term use, Hitwise & Moz among them.  “In all likelihood, Avast took the action to protect its core business, as multiple articles, including from Consumer Reports, called out the company for its data collection practices, while some called for the uninstallation of the Avast software. This is probably as much PR damage control as it is driven by any principled position.”
Forbes appears to have been hit by some Google search issue, but it happened later than the Core Update, so no one is sure what is going on.They were previously penalized for selling links, but that was years ago.
John Mueller listed all of the big Google search news from January in this almost 9 minute video. Click to see the detailed info under the video, because they helpfully summarized the important topics by timestamp, and linked to text resources as well. (Some of it is technical/coding relating; you have been warned!)
There may be another big Google ranking update happening right now (Feb. 9), as tracked by Search Engine Roundtable. Check that site over the next few days for any updates.
CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
The time you send your marketing emails matters, although it’s going to vary more than this article lets on. Keep track of your own stats.
Debunking some myths about Instagram, including the importance of your follower count. “...your follower count isn’t the most important metric on Instagram. Your engagement rate is. Your engagement rate (which is found by calculating the number of engagements you receive divided by EITHER the number of people who saw it OR your total followers, depending on who you ask) is crucial.”
If you use the app Social Captain for Instagram, be aware that your Instagram password was publicly available in the source code.
Facebook’s algorithm has a lot of different factors controlling who sees your posts, including actually having conversations with others, and including “quality, original videos.”
Facebook’s revenue was up 25% in the 4th quarter of 2019, to $21.1 billion, but they expect the privacy controversies to cut into growth this year.
Pinterest is testing an augmented reality tool called “Try On” that allows users to see what they will look like with specific lipstick colours.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Google Shopping Ads will soon be shown in Gmail accounts, YouTube and the Discover feed, starting March 4th. Note that “Retailers have been steadily shifty more of their search budgets from text to Shopping ads.”
A comparison of Google Ads vs. Facebook Ads, with plenty of tips. According to them, if you are seriously considering one, you should probably do both. “When we talk about Facebook, we’re also talking about Instagram, What’sApp, and Facebook Messenger. Google also includes YouTube, the second-most trafficked site in the world (behind Google itself).”
Google’s revenue was up 17% in the 4th quarter in 2019, almost all of it from advertising. YouTube makes more on ads than Amazon does.
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
eBay released its 4th quarter results for 2019 on January 28, with revenue down 2% and gross merchandise value down 5%. Amazon’s sales were up 21% for the 4th quarter.
BigCommerce now allows customers to check out in over 100 currencies, integrated with several different payment processors.
Wondering what a good conversion rate would be for different ecommerce pages? Here’s a brief overview of the known stats, with some tips on improving.. (Note that any action can be counted as a conversion, including signing up for an email list, so this isn’t just about purchases.)
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Are you marketing to Generation Z, or think you should be? Here are 52 facts (with the citations); some highlights: Gen Z has more members than millennials do, and “As of 2020, Gen Z makes up more than 40% of U.S. consumers.” and finally “When shopping online or in stores, 65% of Gen Z prefers to see as few items as possible out of stock” (that last one explains a feedback I received, I think LOL Kind of hard on Etsy when you might have a listing with multiple choices & you only have the one left.)
A study of Cyber Week email open & click rates shows that it might be better not to mention the holidays or discounts.
This article warns consumers of the tricks ecommerce sites use to nudge people to buy more, including some clear examples of deception. “A study by Princeton University and the University of Chicago singled out online clothing seller Fashion Nova, which tells customers that items in their cart “are in high demand.” The problem? The message appears for any item that’s added to the cart. Fashion Nova’s cart also tells shoppers that their items are being “reserved” for 10 minutes. But nothing happens to the items after the 10 minutes are up.”
MISCELLANEOUS
YouTube wants Clearview AI’s face recognition program to stop scraping its videos for content, and to delete anything it has already collected. (Twitter did the same last month.)

Tumblr, I tell you what. I’ve been having a difficult couple of weeks. I’m still kind of in the middle of it, too.  I’m having another “poor me” phase, and feeling very discouraged about everything. The business thing is still struggling, and I’m having trouble finding motivation to do things.  This in turn makes me feel like I don’t have what it takes to run my own business, and I should just go punch someone else’s time clock until I’m 70.
I’m sticking to keto, but truthfully it’s only because I went and put my car away in my garage a week ago, so I don’t have access to it to make midnight 7-11 runs. Nevertheless, every night my brain taps on my shoulder, asking if I should maybe steal my parent’s car keys, or if it’s too far to walk to the store.
While I’m eating keto, I haven’t been able to get my calories down as low as they need to be yet. Even though I weigh 300 lbs, my calories need to be down around 1200 a day to make any significant progress. And I haven’t been able to get down there yet.
Before I got off track a month ago,  my lowest weight was 296.  I saw as high as 305 on the scale sometime this month, and then as I made attempts to get back on the wagon I got back down to 298-something, which I think also aligned with shark week. Then I bounced back up again to around 304. I’ve been weighing every day for about the last week, and for the last few days I’ve been stuck on 300.8.
In my mind I’ve pretty much already lost that weight loss bet I made.  I’ve wasted an entire month, and now I only have four months and still an entire 50 lbs to lose.  An average 300 lb person, especially a guy, could easily lose 50lbs in four months with a little hard work, but frankly I just don’t think my body will do it.  If I could get to a place where I think I could give some extended fasts a go it *could* be possible, but currently I’m way too hungry for that.
And finally, as I mentioned, my being on the wagon currently is being maintained by external factors, like being at my parents’ house without access to my car.  My willpower is pretty low. This upcoming weekend over Labor Day, I have to go down to Austin and housesit/dogsit for my brother. I will be all alone, unsupervised, with a car and a city at my disposal... and it just doesn’t look good. I’ve got the metaphorical angel and devil on my shoulder, the angel reminding me the diet bet isn’t out of range but can afford no more delays, while the devil whispers about the kolache shops in West, and RoundRock Donuts, and all the good food they have in Austin.
So, that’s all the internal reasons I’ve had a hard week.  Externally, when I walked into my house a couple days ago it was 91 degrees inside, even though the A/C was running.  I turned it off and went back the next day, in case it had frozen up, but it still didn’t work the next day.  The system is only four years old, but I wonder if I managed to damage it by running it too much, trying to hit a certain electricity used goal so that I can get the cheapest electricity bill I can. So now it’s going to cost who knows how much to fix that. The system has a 10 year warranty but I’m pretty sure that’s just parts and not labor.
Second, I’ve had some Funko Pops for sale on eBay for a little while.  One of them, a Lucky the Leprechaun figure, sold last week.  So I packaged it up and sent it off, and immediately when the buyer received it, he requested a refund because the item was damaged. He was trying to claim it wasn’t the item that was in the pictures, that this one was all beat up looking.  Well of course what I sent him was in pristine condition, and I immediately knew it was a scammer because I’d heard other people talk about the same thing on the Funko subreddit. The scammer claims they want to return the item, and if you accept, they get their money back and they ship you not what you sold them, but something worthless it its place.
After looking closer, I discovered this buyer’s account was less than two weeks old and has zero feedback. Had I noticed this before, I would have thought twice about completing the sale in the first place, because these scammers create new accounts every time they pull this, since the account will get banned when the scam is discovered. Rest assured I will not make that mistake ever again.
I requested proof of the damage from the buyer twice, which they ignored both times.  After 5 days, I was told, the buyer would have the ability to escalate the claim, at which time eBay would step in. At that point, the buyer would have to provide proof, right?  Wrong.  The buyer escalated the claim at 2:30 AM (in the middle of the night, of course), and by 2:35 AM eBay had already sided with him and directed him to return the item to me, even though they could see my messages in their system and that he’d ignored my requests for proof.
I spent the next two days being pissed off about it, until I received his package back, containing - surprise surprise - a figure of Cartman from South Park, worth probably $5, instead of the $100 figure I had sold him.  I called eBay and they refunded my money without even asking for any proof on my end.  I guess maybe $100 is small potatoes for them but this whole process made me so angry. If they had asked the scammer for even a shred of proof... And then, when someone returns an eBay item, they have the option of making the seller pay for return shipping, so of course he did that as well. So that ended up being another couple of calls to eBay, making them refund that charge too, since it had turned out to be a scam and wasn’t my idea to allow the return in the first place.
On a completely different note, I recommend the movie Ready or Not, out in theatres right now.  It had a pitiful opening weekend, which surprised me.  It’s gotten good reviews, and it was a great movie. Samara Weaving was great in it, and I learned she’s Hugo Weaving’s niece (Agent Smith from Matrix, the elf dad guy in LOTR, and Red Skull from Captain America). Also Adam Brody was good in it, and I always like to see Dave Rygalski doing well.

How to Identify the Performance of a Hover Board
Before we buy a hoverboard, we’ll always pay attention to its performance, such as speed, range , charging efficiency, etc.And although these data are introduced on the product details page, often they are rough, even inaccurate. Because many manufacturers do not have a rigorous test standard, and most of us buy the hoverboard as a toy for children, the actual users who do not care too much about the parameter. But if you are a senior fan of the hoverboard, you may not order one in haste after having a glance at the buyer's reviews.
So how to get the real performance of the hoverboard? After all, we can not gain the data by testing one hoverboard ourselves buying from the store, so I try to use my knowledge of electronics to help you choose a truly cost-effective hoverboard. By the way, here I want to explain why I said that the data of the merchant test is not accurate enough. Although the data of the merchant is also obtained through real test, but because of the product driven by the mobile power source like the hoverboard, the data during the test is greatly affected by its load(the load refers to the weight of the tester) and the road conditions where it has been tested. When a 50kg person and a 70kg person test the same hoverboard under the same conditions, the speed it can achieve and the range will be absolutely different .Anyhow, the testers of each brand can never be cloned by the same person, so the difference in data is inevitable. Then, how do we see the difference in performance in this situation? - Let’s look at the electrical parameters.
1.What the real power does a hoverboard have?
The size of the motor and the diameter of the winding determine the motor’s torque. In general, the 8.5-inch hoverboard is much more powerful than the 6.5-inch one. The motor may have different power in spite of the same size, but the merchant will only mark a rough power range in general, if you need, you can ask the seller for torque of the motor, the torque is the decisive factor of hoverboard's power. In addition, the maximum voltage of the battery is different, resulting in different power supply of the motor, and the power will also change. This is why two hoverboards of the same size and motor power, one can climb a steep slope of 18 °, while the other can barely pass the slope of 15 °. Generally, the hoverboard on the market has a battery pack with 36V and 24V voltage schemes. Please pay attention when purchasing. If you are a heavy-weight user,over75kg, please choose a 36V battery pack and 8.5 inch hoverboard, otherwise it will easily overload the motor when climbing a steep slope. In addition to the limitations of the hoverboard's performance itself, the speed of the hoverboard has system setting restrictions. Even for a powerful hoverboard, some manufacturers set the speed limit to a certain level for safety reasons. This hoverboard is characterized by even the user's weight is high and the scooter's start-up and operation are still very stable.
2.How far can a hoverboard practically run?
Another important parameter is the capacity of the battery, which determines your hoverboard range. For the reasons mentioned above, the actual usage data is still dependent on the user, and players with small weights can often run farther. The capacity of the battery can be seen from the number of battery cells that make up the battery pack and the capacity of a single unit battery. For example, a single 18650 model battery generally has two capacities of 2Ah and 4Ah, and the entire battery pack is composed of multiple battery cells. The total capacity is generally expressed in terms of **WH (the higher the number, the higher the capacity). For example,a 24V/4Ah battery with 96WH(10 cells) could supply your self-balancing scooter for 10 kilometers, another one with 36V/4Ah 144WH(10 cells) may supply your hoverboard for more than 15 kilometers. Large unit capacity batteries and battery packs with a large number of cells are a guarantee of high endurance.
3.What does the weight limit of a hoverboard really depend on?
The max load of hoverboard is also an indicator that we value very much. Here I divide the load capacity into two situations: one is the static load. This is mainly to consider the firmness of the material structure of the hoverboard. The shatter-resistant plastic and aluminum alloy body are currently the high standard configuration, but several manufacturers want to reduce the cost will use ordinary ABS materials, or reduce the size of aluminum parts. Please be sure to consult the merchant before buying; The other is dynamic load, the maximum load the hoverboard can smooth operate with, which is not specific to many manufacturers. But in my experience, people over 75kg often feel powerless when using a 6.5-inch self-balancing scooter, especially when cornering and climbing. High-performance products are naturally accompanied by high prices, or in order to balance the sacrifice of appearance. When buy a hoverboard, please choose according to your own needs.
4.GOODS RECOMMEND
The following is a hoverboard I think is very cost-effective:
.36V / 4Ah /144WH large capacity battery
.8.5 inch 400W powerful motor
.Aluminum alloy and shatter-resistant plastic structure is enough to carry the weight of up to 120 kg
.Even the adapter is 42V / 1.5A (63W) fast charger
.And this configuration only costs $ 219 ,unbelievable!
If you go to Amazon or eBay to compare other products at this price, you’ll find its perfomance is really unusual!Although this hoverboard may not be prominent for the appearance.,it’s also the best choice for $300 or less.https://asiwo.com/self-balancing-hoverboard-sport-8-5-inch-big-wheel-hover-board-electric-balance-scooter-with-bluetooth-and-led-lights-black-black-grey.html

It's helpful to understand a little about the substances before purchasing because every cloth. Furthermore, understand when to wear every kind of cloth to be able to remain ready for the surroundings. Cotton Cotton has become the most popular cloth for T-shirts. Cotton is soft, hardy, and watertight. It's also quite reasonable. Cotton does wrinkle, therefore eliminate the dryer quickly to protect against this. Cotton is excellent for ordinary wear and can be casual. Various sorts of cotton are employed in attire, and every one slightly disagrees. Somewhat pricier than fundamental cotton, combed cotton is also very soft. It's created by especially treating the cotton fibers before turning them . To try it, good brushes are utilised to eliminate short strands and also straighten fibres. The result is a more powerful, smoother fabric. By way of instance, organic cotton manufacturing keeps soil fertility and lessens the demand for pesticides and fertilizers. Due to the rigorous growth procedures, natural cotton is pricier than standard cottonnonetheless, it's quite soft to the touch. Recognized the maximum quality cotton accessible, pima cotton is made of additional long fibres. These long fibers create the cotton really soft and durable. Supima cotton is just like pima cotton in feel; it only describes 100 percent American rose pima cotton. In reality, with every washing machine, the cotton gets softer. Slub cotton seems to get minor lumps in the cloth. This is a result of this procedure before weaving the cotton in which the cotton is twisted, and making irregular spins. The outcome is a special fabric with feel for this. Slub T-shirts are airy and light and don't cling to your system. Since the cloth naturally appears yellowish, there's absolutely not any requirement to iron, since it isn't intended to seem flat. Linen T-shirts will also be made from lace. Linen is made of the flax plant also contains a textured glow. It's lightweight, watertight, also moisture-wicking, which makes it a fantastic selection for summer wear. From the nature of this cloth, it's more powerful when moist. The sole downside to deciding upon a linen T-shirt is the fact that it lumps easily and frequently requires pruning. Lycra Shoppers frequently hear the expression lycranonetheless, that is the newest name for its substance called spandex. This substance is most frequently utilized in athletic clothe                                                      as it allows for simple movement. Polyester Polyester is a very strong fabric which has many benefits. Therefore, it's a great material frequently seen in athletic clothing. Rayon Made as a less expensive option to silk, rayon is a manmade fiber made from cotton, trees, and crops. It's woven or knitted to a slick, breathable cloth, and is frequently seen in athletic wear. It curtains easily, is easy to dye, also can be very absorbent. But, it doesn't consume well over lengthy wear; it will become yellowed and pilly. Rayon additionally wrinkles easily. Modal A sort of rayon created from beechwood plant fibers, it's a gorgeous drape and a slinky texture. Modal is breathable and soft. It's shrink-resistant along with fade-resistant. It remains soft and doesn't tablet quickly, compared to routine rayon. Blends Frequently, T-shirts are a combo of either a couple of materials. A remarkably common example is a polyester and cotton mix. By combining both of these materials, the very best qualities from the outcome. This mix remains lights and cool in the cotton fibers, but additionally, it has the potency and wrinkle-resistance of lace. Most T-shirt cloths arrive in various weaves. Weaves are loosely or tightly stitched as well as the looseness of the cloth is dependent upon the amount of yarns per square inch. The more yarns causes a tighter cloth. In weavingthere are two major terms to understand: warp and weft. The warp denotes the pair of lengthwise yarns. The weft is the yarn that's inserted and beneath the warp yarns. The easiest weave is referred to as a plain weave, which can be a readily recognisable above and under routine. The horizontal (weft) yarns traveling over and below the vertical (twist ) yarns. This weave wrinkles easily and isn't as absorbent as any other weaves. Therefore, it shouldn't be worn when a person should remain cool, like through a hot summer afternoon or to get a work out. On the contrary, it's better suited to a rainy afternoon or to get a day in the workplace. But, warp and weft yarns substitute colors, developing a heathered effect. T-shirts with this particular weave are a lightweight selection for warm weather. Such a broader thread produces a soft, absolute, and mild cloth. Voile weave occupies and is still a fantastic selection for hot weather. As it's so mild, in addition, it produces a fantastic layering piece. Twill weave cloths are wrinkle-resistant and simple to take care of. A number of the cloths are also quite sturdy, which makes them ideal for guys who want T-shirts to wear out when doing lawn work or structure. Consumers can expect to pay more to get twill weaves than plain pops because of the greater yarn count. It's similar to the plain ribbon; nonetheless, a couple of warp yarns cross legged side by side with 2 or more weft yards. This makes a broad, basket-like weave. This sort of weave generally utilizes a large thread count; because of this, it's a smoother, smoother, and much more expensive cloth. Since oxford weave T-shirts are somewhat more sophisticated than a number of the additional options, they're a suitable shirt for a single day in the workplace.

Shopping programmers should closely follow any kind of mention of their items on social networking websites and address misconceptions and problems. This is true in general, yet if you really need to know concerning the popularity of a details title, you additionally need to take into consideration the magazine date as well as how much time it has been marketed on For example, a publication with an sales-rank of 100,000 that has just been released and marketed on for a couple of days may be very popular in the future and reach the top ten. The abilities of the Internet through the net has meant that the duty in between company and also customer has actually altered wherein the consumer is now able to require much better solution as well as has fast and easy accessibility to info and also items. Collecting out-of-print Tarot decks
Tumblr media
by Michelle Gruben
Every Tarot collector wants that one deck. The 1980s deck that you first learned to read with (and haven’t seen since). The indie Kickstarter deck you should have bought when you had the chance. The deck that everyone raves about that’s long overdue for a reprint.
As a lifelong collector (and occasional dealer) of Tarot, I know the agony of searching for those elusive decks. I’ve written this guide to help you round up the stragglers on your list. With a little sleuthing, patience, and (moderately) deep pockets, anyone can build the Tarot collection of their dreams. This article is geared toward those who buy Tarot decks for reading and study, rather than purely for collectible value. But if you happen to make money buying and selling Tarot, more power to you!
First, it’s helpful to understand why Tarot decks go out of print in the first place. Every time a Tarot deck is created, the publisher—whether it’s the artist or a publishing company—has to make a very risky bet. They have to settle on an initial print run, or the number of copies that will be produced. The publisher uses a current budget and past sales figures to arrive at this number, but it’s not an exact science.
If the number is too low, the deck will sell out quickly, disappointing customers. If the number is too high, the publisher could be stuck with unsold copies of the deck for years, tying up cash that could have gone to other projects. Print runs vary from 500 or fewer copies from indie artists, up to tens of thousands of copies from major publishers.
Most Tarot decks never see a second print run after the initial printing sells out. However, if the deck becomes extremely popular, the publisher may opt to put a new edition. Some titles are translated into other languages, and appear in multiple sizes and formats. A classic deck may even get an anniversary edition to mark a major milestone. Not all reprints are created equal, though. Sometimes, the print quality improves and errors are corrected in the new edition. Other times, the deck suffers from flimsy paper stock, “off” colors, and skimpy packaging.
Intellectual property issues can delay or block a re-issue. The Thoth Tarot by Aleister Crowley went missing for several years. The hiatus was due to a legal dispute between the Ordo Templi Orientis, which claims the rights to the artwork, and U.S. Games Systems, Inc., which has a contract to publish the deck. Eventually, a new edition made it to the market—but not before dealers went crazy hawking the out-of-print decks on eBay.
I’ll be the first to admit it: Finding rare and out-of-print decks isn’t easy. There are thousands of different Tarot decks, most from small print runs, and no centralized resources for collectors. In addition, serious Tarot fans tend to hold on to their decks for a long time—like, until death.
Your Tarot wish list
If you’re serious about filling out a Tarot collection, the first step is to make a wish list. Patience is a virtue when hunting for Tarot, so the list will help you focused during those long stretches of no luck. Write down the name, publisher, and any other particulars—like edition or language—for your desired decks. You can also arrange the wish list by priority (“Decks I Would Sell My Firstborn For” down to “Decks I Might Buy If the Price Is Right”).
Once your collection reaches a certain size, you’ll also want to keep an inventory of decks you already own. I don’t wish for anyone to be hovering around a stinky flea market trying to remember if they already have Motherpeace.
Ready to start chipping away at that wish list? Here's four places to look for rare Tarot and oracle decks:
1. Check online marketplaces.
eBay, Amazon, and AbeBooks are the most popular venues for used Tarot decks. Searching online listings is the fastest—but probably also the most expensive—way to get your hands on a long-lost deck. The three sites listed above have the largest selection of vintage Tarot. Generally speaking, used book lots and estate sales put Tarot decks in the hands of dealers, who pass them on to collectors. Search terms like “vintage,” “original” or “OOP” will show you the current haul of collectible decks.
Browsing these three sites is a good way to find out what a particular deck is worth—or at least, what dealers want it to be worth. I’ve seen mass-market decks that originally retailed for about $20 offered for $300 or more. And that’s without the deck being particularly rare or sought-after. Some dealers buy up all the current Tarot titles they can, just hoping that the publisher will sell out and the value of the deck will shoot up.
Don’t be discouraged if you find your coveted deck listed at an insane price. Remember, the value of something is only what someone else will pay. It’s often the case that the seller has no idea what the item is worth. They do know they have only one available, and they’re simply trying to get the best price from some eager collector. The seller may come down if no one bites, or if similar listings pop up. They will certainly come down if the deck is reprinted. If you’re willing to wait, it’s entirely possible that you might find the same title somewhere else for much less.
Try setting up alerts so you can be notified when your wish list items show up in listings. Large marketplace like eBay and Amazon usually support this function. Of course, if the deck you want is truly rare and at the top of your list, you may wish to snap it up as soon as you get a chance.
Online Tarot collecting is not without its risks. Read the listing carefully, and be sure to ask any questions before checkout. Because Amazon requires an ISBN number for listings (but doesn’t keep a complete catalog of ISBNs for out-of-print titles), sellers sometimes list old Tarot items under the wrong ISBN. It’s very disappointing to get the wrong edition (or worse, a book when you were expecting a deck.)
Also, don’t assume that people selling used Tarot decks on major sites know anything about Tarot. Some may be specialists, but some are liquidators who deal in all types of books and other items. Right now on eBay, there are decks with missing cards, decks described incorrectly, and newer editions passed off as vintage. Beware of “as is” listings and sellers who don’t describe the item thoroughly with words and photos. A reputable seller should at least be able to verify that all the cards are there and provide you with the publishing info from the box or booklet.
2. Scrounge around (in person).
Your second option is poking around in cluttered rooms that smell like books. (Poor you!)
Not a lot of metaphysical shops carry used Tarot decks. Part of the reason may be superstition, or clients' worry about the energy of previous owners clinging to the deck. But the bigger reason is probably the hassle. Every used deck has to be checked for condition and completeness. Most of the decks published in the 1980s and beyond just don’t have that much value, other than sentiment. As a shop owner, I can attest that the profit margin on new decks is small enough, and the margin on run-of-the-mill used decks is miserable. But it’s worth checking if your local occult store sells or trades vintage decks.
The next stop for scrounging will be the used book stores in your area. Because of pilferage, decks are usually kept behind glass or the front counter, so you may have to ask for them. Tarot can also show up at such unlikely places as estate sales, rummage sales, auctions, and library sales. Workers at these things don’t always know where to place the decks, so I check the New Age section, the games section, and the rare book shelf. (Unfortunately, the general public seems to think Tarot decks are worth a lot more than they are. Don’t be shy about setting them straight with a cash offer.)
When you run across vintage Tarot decks at a reasonable price, buy them all! Honestly, do it. Whether the decks are on your list or not, they’re really neat to rifle through and they don’t take up much room. They could be a useful bargaining chip when you meet with other collectors. (See #4, below.)
Magickal folks, you can use visualization and intuition to make a hard-to-find Tarot deck come to you. Put your intention out there, then go where your hunches and whims lead you. If you have access to a favorite image from the deck, print it out and put it with your collection. Or you can simply visualize yourself reading the deck or holding it in your hands. Then follow your nose and keep your eyes peeled for your new deck.
3. Contact the artist or publisher.
Through the wonders of the information age, it’s now possible to get in touch with nearly any (living) artist or author. It’s a long shot, but it just might yield up a Tarot deck or at least a hot tip.
Try sending a message to the deck creator through their website or Facebook page. Tell ‘em how much you love the deck, and how disappointed you are that you missed the limited edition, or gave away your personal copy, or lost it after revel fire that one night, or whatever. Then ask them if they know any way that the deck can be obtained.
Sometimes, artists will have a limited number of copies that they keep for family and friends. They may be willing to sell you one. Perhaps there’s been a second printing that you didn’t know about. Could be a bookstore in Winnipeg has some old stock. Maybe they’ll tell you about a new deck they’re working on that’s so awesome, you’ll cross the old one off your list.
Reaching out to artists that inspire you is usually very gratifying, even if it doesn’t land you a deck. Artists need love! For out-of-print titles stuck in purgatory, your message will at least demonstrate some interest, and possibly nudge them toward another print run.
I’m shy, so I’ll admit that this is not my favorite strategy of the bunch. Several years ago, I was desperate to get my hands on the rare-ish Alchemical Tarot by Robert Place. I got a large tattoo from the deck on my leg, and the plan was to send him a pic and ask if he had a deck to sell me. But I chickened out! I (Fortunately, it was later reprinted.)
Nowadays, I chat with lots of deck creators, and I’ve found them to be a great resource for finding those rare decks and special extras. Many creators are collectors, also. They’re often the first to know when a re-issue or new release is forthcoming. Re-issues always drive down the price of out-of-print decks, so this is useful intel whether you buy or sell Tarot.
4. Connect with other collectors.
Other Tarot collectors make wonderful fishing buddies. Whether you meet them online or in person, connecting with Tarot community will yield a wealth of information. They can help you set up trades, find new leads, evaluate purchases, and identify your decks. The only danger here is that your wish list will grow and grow!
If you have decks in your collection that you no longer want, other collectors will be happy to take them off your hands. Bring a handful of old decks to Tarot classes and spiritual book swaps, and they may find a happy new home. A Tarot meetup I used to attend had a monthly “Show and Tell” that very often turned into “Show and Sell.”
For many years, the leading online Tarot swap community has been on the Aecletic Tarot forums (registration required for most features). They are generally fair and knowledgeable folks. You can post buy/sell requests or show off your collection! Remember, the only thing better than finding a much-longed-for deck is helping someone else to do the same.
Happy collecting!

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES & STUDIES, mid July to August, 2019
Welcome to my latest summary of recent news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & ecommerce! This covers articles I came across from July 14 to August 24, although some may be older than that.
Tumblr has not been saving all of my drafts correctly, which has led to me rewriting some of this post more than once. (I’m now going to be compiling it elsewhere & pasting it here when done, to avoid this issue in the future.) That, a heavy workload, and some vacation time delayed & truncated this report.
But the good news is I am now on a more consistent schedule, with more time to read and write. I expect to be getting this back to 3 times a month very soon.
Are there types of news you would like to see here? Please let me know! Leave a comment below, email me through my website, or send me a message on Twitter.
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
The priority placement is US search for items that ship free has been around for nearly 4 weeks, and doesn’t seem as disruptive as some feared. Etsy is conscious that non-US sellers are particularly upset about this, and have therefore published a list of things they are doing to help international sellers. (note that most of those things also help US sellers that ship to other countries,
Etsy’s 2nd quarter results came out on August 1. Everything was up, but not quite as much as some experts predicted, so the stock is down quite a bit. The big announcement was that Etsy will be combining Promoted Listings & Google Shopping ads bought by sellers into Etsy Ads. They are supposed to launch in August, but I have yet to hear of any seller who thought this was a good idea.
3.5 million people worldwide use at least one social media platform. (That’s 46% of the planet’s population.) And more than half of the planet  - over 4 billion people - watch videos online. “[H]alf of all internet users below the age of 35″ use voice to operate their devices, with 43% of internet users worldwide using voice at least occasionally.
SEO isn’t enough; you are going to have to spend money to be seen, if you don’t already “The last 18 years have been an anomaly. Twenty years ago, if a brand couldn't afford to pay for a newspaper or a radio ad, the media company didn't give the company time to publish a public service announcement. SEO allowed companies to go through a period where they received free listings on search engines like Google and Bing. Sending people to a brand's website is like getting a free television or radio commercial or newspaper ad or billboard at the baseball park in 1984″
Trend watch: both clothing retailers and makeup companies are seeing a drop in sales as their markets shrink. If you sell either, you will want to read both articles, as there are some parallels between the two areas in regard to what is and is not working.
ETSY NEWS
Etsy purchased musical gear website Reverb for $275 million; it will continue to run separate from Etsy. Etsy stock went up at the time. This is notable because Etsy hasn’t bought much lately; it looks like they are slowly dialing back the panic mode, single-goal approach. Their business acumen has disappointed one commentator [humour].
Etsy is “improving” Etsy shop stats. (Note that the Google Shopping category is apparently for the ads you buy yourself only, not the ones Etsy buys, so you will need to use Google Analytics to look at those hits for the moment.) This seems to be leading up to the launch of Etsy Ads (see above).
Here’s some coverage of Etsy changes in the past few years (not a lot new, with some errors).
Etsy seems to be ramping up its monitoring of seller customer service factors, as more people are receiving email notifications that their shops are falling below Etsy’s customer service expectations. I expect that any updates in this area might involve the new chat convo thingy: Convos are changing to live chat threads, which you cannot write more than one paragraph for because hitting return sends the message. It’s a mess. (Please forgive my frustration; I’ve already had to deal with over 40 separate convos from one buyer alone.)
There will be a site-wide Labour Day sale August 30-September 2, which Etsy will apparently be promoting.
Fall fashion trends as promoted by Etsy: apparently silk scarves are in, for all sorts of uses. They also released their holiday trend report (pdf file), which I will summarize next week if I can find the time. It’s worth a look, because they divulge some top search data. You can also listen to the podcast, or read the podcast transcript.
This article on tiered pricing and increasing your average order value is geared towards people using the $35 free shipping guarantee, but it is also useful for anyone wanting their customers to buy more from them.
Staff will be using the Etsy Success section of the forum to post weekly tips called “Etsy Insights”. So far, they have been posting each week’s thread in that announcement post, so it is easy to skim and see if any topics are relevant for you.
They are also asking members to sign up for more research surveys; so far, I am finding it pretty boring, and all of the content on their “hub” page is over a year old.
The expansion into India saw their domestic listings more than double last year. Free workshops have helped bring many new sellers aboard.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Google’s John Mu, who does SEO outreach & education, reminds us that “LSI keywords” are not actually a thing. (LSI was a computer method to figure out relationships between words back in the 1980s; no search engine today is using it, as they have real search data on how people relate words to each other, and it just doesn’t give any insight into modern search technology.)
You don’t need tons of backlinks, but you do need good ones. And linking out on your own site is a good idea in many cases [video], as long as it serves your readers.
Using images that show up on many different web pages can harm your SEO. They used stock photos that showed up on hundreds of pages for this experiment, so it is not likely that using your own image on 5 sites, for example, would be a problem.
It looks like there was a fairly significant Google update around July 18th; there’s a bit more coverage here. The last 3 large Google updates are summarized & analyzed here.
Google then released a blog post explaining their core updates and what you should do if you are negatively affected by one. They linked to several SEO websites explaining Google’s concept “E-A-T” (Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness), which is particularly important if you produce blog posts or educational materials.
Less than half of Google searches now lead to a click on a website result, at least on desktop. Mobile Google searches overwhelmingly do not result in traffic to a website any more. (Note: as I always remind people, the data from these types of studies is always a bit suspect, because they only have a slice of the data, but the provider here probably has the biggest slice worldwide.
Do you do some simple coding on your website or blog? You will find this beginners’ guide to canonical tags and the different uses of redirects and canonical tags [video & transcript] very helpful. If you are a bit more advanced than that, here’s a good guide to meta tags.
CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
Hubspot puts out a lot of good digital marketing guides; check out their “Ultimate Guide to Content Distribution”. Also, they covered how to write a great (& SEO-effective) blog headline, with examples.
Some stats on current social media usage [infographic].
Verizon sold Tumblr to Wordpress owner Automattic.
Snapchat users continue to increase, as does revenue. They still aren’t profitable, but didn’t expect to be yet.
Not getting enough traffic on Facebook? Here’s how to get seen by more people there.
There are ways to optimize your LinkedIn profile to get more sales.
How to get valuable Twitter followers, that is, not bots. (They use Etsy as an example of a well-optimized Twitter profile.)
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Amazon is making advertising an even bigger slice of its income.
Digital ad spending is continuing to increase in most areas.
Facebook is expanding its search ads to more businesses; it’s not really clear how it all works, though. The ads must also run as news feed ads. Here are some basic tips on how to get the most out of Facebook’s ad algorithm.
With Etsy possibly ending the free Google Shopping ads it currently buys for us (see the Etsy Ads announcement above), this might be a good time to look into buying Google Shopping ads for your website; here is your complete guide to setting them up.
More changes to regular Google ads mean less control for the business buying ads, meaning that exact match phrases are no longer even close. “Google says 15% of its daily searches are new — and advertisers will miss out on these new queries if matching is too tightly controlled. Its machine learning systems, the company says, can infer intent and spare advertisers from creating exhaustive keyword lists in order to get their ads to trigger on relevant queries.”
If you are thinking about paying for ads on Pinterest, you will want to read this starter guide.
Twitter video ads now have an option to not pay for a click unless people view at least 6 seconds of the video.
STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING
How to use Instagram Analytics to boost your business. (That is written for companies that are larger than most Etsy shops, but there is plenty of good material there.)
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
eBay beat earnings expectations in the second quarter.
Amazon had higher than expected sales but lower than expected earnings in the second quarter. They keep thriving despite low profits margins because they have a massive cash flow.
Alibaba reported higher than expected revenue and profit for its first quarter ending June 30th.
Amazon sales on Prime Day (July 15-16, actually 2 days) were greater than last year’s Black Friday & Cyber Monday combined, and also signed up more new Prime members on each than ever before. Other websites also saw a big boost, especially for electronics.
Amazon forced to amend its seller policies worldwide following German legal action. As of August 16, they will give 30 days notice for standard account cancellations.
And they have expanded their robot deliveries (still followed by humans, though!)
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
While buyers do love free shipping, nearly half of US consumers surveyed will choose to pay for shipping in certain circumstances, most commonly when they really want the product. Only 11% said they never buy unless shipping is free.
When you are trying to sell something, and especially if you want a repeat buyer, make sure you are pitching it to the right target market. For example, people who don’t want to spend a lot of money won’t buy things they can get for free elsewhere. Provide value for the right people. (A lot of this article is pitched at entrepreneurs selling classes and events, not tangible products, but I think there is a lot of value in the explanations.)
MISCELLANEOUS
WordPress is one of the most popular ways to set up your own website; here’s a beginner’s guide to getting started.
Google beat earnings expectations in the second quarter. Ad revenue was up a lot. Microsoft also had a better-than-expected quarter, but the growth of their search ads and of LinkedIn (which they own) has slowed.
How to choose colours that will work together well.
There is a lot of research on productivity; here are 10 things you can do to get more done.
If you use Chrome, you could really use these Chrome keyboard shortcuts.
