me: Hey, hey, hey, what if Loki is just Odin's not-a-king-sona that he then uses to drive Ragnarok forwards?

me: there are just a lot of similarities? They're both tricksters and both magic users though magic was like a not so common thing. I think it was a combination of posts by @incorrectnorse-quotes yesterday that made me think of it - the one about Loki saying "if using magic is feminine then why do you use magic odin" and the "young adventurer: you're odin!/Loki,disguised as odin, disguised as an old man: you got me/Odin,disguised as a young adventurer for 4-d chess level reasons: I knew it!"

me: And then also the whole my brother my enemy song and Hell/Balder's song where it's like Ragnarok seems a little like it's mostly happening because of Odin and Loki? And Odin was like I see the future? And if it wasn't for their fight Raganrok wouldn't happen? And Loki always being on Thor's quests with Odin's son? I don't know.

Odin: It's hard to be a king? Why can't I be a normal person without all this stress, and go with my son on his quests?

Odin: I know! I'll disguise myself! As my brother! No one will question my brother!

Odin: A fool proof plan!

@browncoatparadox: 😆 Odin alternately using his Lokisona to either goof off or kickstart the apocalypse seems... somehow appropriate

me: And re:him killing Balder, by that point he'd already imprisoned a bunch of his other kids on the Loki side.

@browncoatparadox: Balder, after the truth comes out: Sis, do you have any therapists down here? I think we all need them

me: Hel and Balder, looking at each other awkwardly: Ah . . . so there really was another way. Glad to know I'm valuable for one thing at least.

@browncoatparadox : AU where half the Norse gods are just Odin in increasingly more unrealistic costumes

me: Shadow puppet theatre, It's like Thor, frig, Freya, and balder, And then just all the odins

@browncoatparadox: But if Odin is Loki and Freya it suddenly makes that one myth even funnier

me: The Thor Bride one!

me: Yeah!

Maybe Freyer rather than Freya then, and Odin was like, look, you know what'll be funny? If I'm your sister too!

me: (but there's enough rumors that they want freya's hand anyways)

me: (His freya costume is his worst one)

@browncoatparadox: Oh absolutely

me: (he doesn't even bother shaving his beard)

@browncoatparadox: Freya is literally just Odin crossdressing and with a glass eye

me: Maybe he changes out his glass eye for a fancy one? Like with flowers on it, so it looks disturbing

@browncoatparadox: Oh absolutely All the other deities are varying levels of convincing, but Freya is just Odin dressed up like he's going to the Met gala and claiming they're the most beautiful woman in the world

me: Yep! Loki's maybe the most convincing

@browncoatparadox: 👍

me: Because he was like hmm, okay, I'm gonna kickstart ragnarok like this can't let them know I'm myself and playing both sides

@browncoatparadox: He gets gradually less disguised over time, climaxing in Freya. I think that some people figure out a few of the overlaps, maybe figuring out that, say, Bragi and Loki are the same person, or Heimdall and Odin. Thor does not realize anything wrong until Ragnarok itself.

me: Yesssssss Like when they're on the battle field and there's like only half the people who promised to be there because all of them were Odin.

@browncoatparadox: Oh! Oh! All the kids unionize at Ragnarok and refuse to actually kill off all of Odin's aliases. Odin is devastated not just because the apocalypse he's been manipulating everyone towards won't happen, but because he was really looking forward to all the dramatic death scenes

me: Yes! They're like what would hurt him the most? At this point, it's not killing him. Any of him.

Odin: Why won't you eat me? 🥺

Fenrir: Dad, you have to know how weird that sounds. Anyways, I need to catch up with my siblings

Vidar: Honestly if he killed you I'd be way more likely to give him a chin rub than avenge you

The kids, gathered around Slepnir: and what's up with this?

@browncoatparadox: Hel: Sorry, can't make it to Ragnarok, I'm busy building a community garden for the dishonored dead. It's full of plants that got eaten by gophers before they could bloom!

me: 😆 Balder: They just need a little light!

The vanir, siddling over to Frey: Hey dude, since when did you have a sister? Like cool we don't have to send over another hostage, but really?

Frey, utterly done with the war and Odin's antics, deadpan: Since always, duh, she's my twin. I know you received belated babyshower invitations, and Mom, you were there.
