Sky-Rise
Telford is Much Wenlock’s closest town, just a few miles away across the River Severn. It’s a new town in fact, begun in the 1960s when its developers laid claim to the brownfield land between the traditional coalfield communities of Wellington, Madeley, Ironbridge, Dawley and Oakengates, places whose inhabitants had played their part in Britain’s industrial revolution from at least the 17th…

The Whitacre Link (HS2)
The Whitacre Link is a very short piece of railway that I believe is the key to a West Midlands network. A few years ago China did want to fund it, but it's gone quiet ever since.
Tumblr media
The unassuming line in pink runs from Water Orton to Birmingham International railway station. There it should have a new platform at Birmingham Interchange HS2, for interchange with the new high speed line, or could even connect to HS2 itself for through-compatability, though that is unlikely.
The point of this line is what it connects to, and that is a currently planned line from Walsall to Aldridge. That line would continue on to Water Orton for connection to Birmingham in the far future, however if instead it headed onto the Whitacre link the possibilities are endless.
The first service this would allow is as such:
Tumblr media
This route runs from Shrewsbury to Birmingham Interchange HS2. Most of this line is already planned for electrification soon.
Principal stations are: Shrewsbury, Wellington, Oakengates, Telford, Shifnal, Albrighton, Cosford, Codsall, Bilbrook, Wolverhampton, Willenhall (Black Country), Walsall, Aldridge, Streetly, Sutton Park, Sutton Town, Minworth, Water Orton and Birmingham Interchange HS2.
Journey times from each of these stations apart from Wolverhampton are woeful, as are connections to Birmingham International itself, and therefore the proposed new mini-city there (UK Central project).
This line and its interchange improve London journey times to every station on the line other than Wolverhampton. For some stations, such as Sutton Coldfield, Aldridge or Telford, London journey times are as much as halved.
The benefits do not end there however. Other lines tie in to the service due to it passing so many interchange stations. Stations that can benefit include such far flung places as Cannock, Brownhills, Burntwood, Dudley, Wednesbury and Darlaston.
The line can also be used to connect Lichfield, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Tamworth to Birmingham International, though they would not benefit from decreased journey times to London.

We hold this truth to be self-evident: Colonials are cool. The style can be traced back to the 1600s, with the first settlers coming over from Europe. In honor of Independence Day, we found nine Colonials that hark back to the early days of America, but were all built in the 20th century.
So wave an American flag and celebrate nine Colonials available for purchase right now. Tricorn hat optional…

Shrewsbury + News from our partners: New service allows patients to go home the same day
News from our partners Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH)
Total laparoscopic hysterectomies can now be done as outpatient surgery at The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford.
Women who come to PRH for a major surgical procedure which involves removing the uterus and the cervix using keyhole surgery can now go home the same day.
Prior to this surgical technique patients would routinely stay in hospital for up to five days.
Susan Dawson, 62, of Oakengates, near Telford, underwent the procedure recently.
She said:
“I arrived at PRH at 7.30am and within 12 hours I was back home with my feet up watching a film and eating a slice of toast.
“I tried to take the next few days sensibly but it was surreal as I was in no pain at all. I had undergone major surgery yet I was in no pain at all and was able to get on with my life as normal.
“I was incredibly fortunate to be under the care of Dr Banchhita Sahu, who is an amazing surgeon and a lovely human being. As a result of her great care and the modern procedures the hospital trust offers to women in Shropshire, I was up doing what I love – baking, walking and socialising with friends – within 24-hours of getting home.”
A total laparoscopic hysterectomy can be offered to women who need a hysterectomy for various benign health issues, as well as in cases of early womb cancer and early cervical cancer. A total hysterectomy is similar to a subtotal hysterectomy except that the cervix is also removed during the operation.
Dr Sahu, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), which runs PRH and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, said:
“With correct patient selection, day case total laparoscopic hysterectomy offers many advantages. This includes early mobilisation, reduced recovery time, less need for pain relief and helps get ladies home sooner.
“The best place for a patient to recover is at home as they will do so much more quickly. It also means a women can get back to being with their family and or getting on with their daily lives, whether it be going back to work or enjoying their hobbies, as quickly as possible.
“The team here at SaTH are very proud to be able to offer same day discharge and following a recent review of this service we presented the data to great applause at the national conference of British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy.”

Fireplaces in Oakengates
Tips for choosing the best fireplace in Oakengates
The fireplace is one of the most important parts of the house especially if you live in the UK where unfortunately the weather is quite often cold. Most of the people want to ensure that they have the best fireplace that will enhance the look of their interior as well as providing the essential functionality of keeping them warm.
Of course most homes these days have a central heating system but that doesn’t mean the fireplace is dead, in fact they are more popular than ever. So if you are looking for a great fireplace in Oakengates here are a few things to consider before you buy.
Fuel
There are three main choices to make here: Gas, electric and a real wood/coal burner. This will be the first decision you make before you start looking at designs.
Wood Burner
Obviously for a real fire you will need a chimney installed in your house if you don’t already have one. This isn’t as drastic as it sounds as it can be done quite easily with a pipe. All three of these have varying running costs. A wood burner can be the cheapest if you have a good wood supplier. Wood burners are also the most dangerous, probably not the best idea if you have small children. They also require the most maintenance and you will have to budget for a chimney sweep and regularly clean the fire itself.
Electric
Depending on the wattage electric fires can be expensive but it depends on what area you live in whether it’s going to be more expensive than gas. Electric require no maintenance and provide consistent heat at the flick of a button. There are no fumes to worry about and generally they are the easiest to install.
Gas
If you intend to choose gas then you must make sure there is a supply near to where you wish to position the fire. Gas fires will require a professional to install as doing it incorrectly could be deadly. You should also invest in a carbon monoxide monitor.
Design
Obviously this will come down to personal preference. There are many different styles to choose from. Traditional fire places are the most popular as they will look good in most environments. However there is a growing market for modern wall mounted fireplaces.
Wood Burners are incredibly popular right now and nothing beats having a real open flame in the house. There is something very special about it and it makes the house incredibly cosy. On a cold dark winters night there is nothing better.
You will also want to consider what kind of surround you want. Do you want a mantelpiece of a free standing unit?
Cost
One of the most important things to consider during the selection of the fireplace is your budget. You have to ensure that you select the material, fuel and service providers that will meet your requirements and your budget in the best possible way. It is important that you properly plan before getting the fireplace. Conduct a complete research that will give you the perfect idea about the things that you must select to keep it in your budget. Make sure that you compare two or more service providers so that you can have the best product at an affordable cost or discounted rate.
There may be interest free credit available depending on what you buy and where you buy it from.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireplace
Construction
Make sure that you pay special attention towards the construction of the fireplace. Some materials are going to last longer than others. Wooden surrounds are popular and provide a really rustic and traditional look but it isn’t going to last as long as marble. Make sure that you select the highest quality material for the construction of the fireplace. This is especially important if you choose to buy online as you can’t always get a feel for the quality of the materials. If you do buy online make sure you hire a professional to install it in your home. An incorrectly installed fireplace could be extremely dangerous. Always check the reviews of online retailers and installers.
Weather
The weather in Oakengates should play a big part in your decision on what to buy. You may be buying it to enhance your living room but you want something practical which you can rely on as you get older and you start to feel the cold more.
The further North you live the more you will want something reliable and easy to use. Wood and coal burners provide fantastic heat but what happens when you run out of fuel and it’s the middle of the night? Consider this before you go down that road. Gas and electric are available at the flick of a switch.
Bottom line
It is important that you get the best quality fireplace that will stay with you and your property for a long time. To make this possible it is important that you hire professionals for the installation of the fireplace. We have the team of experts that have the knowledge and skills that you are looking for. Our team has the best reputation in market.
