“You must be hungry, huh? Your people no longer spill blood to feed you. That’s okay, I can feed you, friend.” Your voice was a raspy coo. The taste of honey sweet power flowed on the back of Graves’s tongue. You should be dead. He had personally drained you dry himself, to spite the 141, yet here you were. A corpse, leaning in the doorway of the cell they died in. Well he could always try again.

“Now darlin’, why don’t you just step back in that door way and we’ll get you in a minute.” Graves kept his voice cheerful. Your milky unseeing eyes locked on him and he swears he could feel the devil clawing down his spine.

“Tlaltecuhtli has been hungry so long. I want to feed her first.”

Your raspy coo mixed and layered with what sounded like a child’s pleading. Even his thralls shivered as those blue lips stumbled over syllables. The taste of honey began to mix with stone dust.

Grave’s shook his head. “No can do, storm cloud. Why don’t you step back in that cell? I’m sure you can feed them later.” Your face twitched as if trying to decide between laughing and frowning. Grave’s lightly rested a finger over the trigger of his rifle. You smiled then. A slow creeping gateway into a pitch black mouth. “But she’s already here.” And the earth cracked.

I’ve been writing up some stuff for a potential Secret World Legends game since the Kickstarter I had backed last year for the TTRPG version of it released its raw text book, and because it’s all I can think about, I drew art of the 3 handlers potential players could interact with lol

Simon, Illuminati/Blue faction handler, my olde OC when i still played the MMO, and his pet bug dog Rubi. A lazy kinda guy but when the going gets tough, he sticks around to see what happens!

Fran, Templar/red handler, has been around for A While, a Very Long While. They know what's up and can probably deal with it, but their fuse is so smol and punching is so much easier to solve things

and Hannah, Dragon/Green handler, she is the worst thing you can inflict on a brand new agent of the Secret world; a teenager with a superiority complex.

Shadows Boxing

[Image ID: a clean sketch of Mihas Blaga and Doctor Klein sitting around a campfire, their shadows cast large and looming behind them. Klein, with a couple deep black Filth tendrils peeking out from the back of his collar, is holding a stack of Filth-stained notes in one hand, and adjusting his glasses with the other. However, his shadow instead has its hands reaching down as if to grab Klein, with a greater number of Filth tendrils extending from its head, shoulders, and chest. Despite being part of a shadow, those Filth tendrils are also a deeper black, and have a bizarrely solid, textured quality to them.]

So a bit ago in the SWL discord, we were discussing the museum upgrade item, Dr. Klein's Notes. (A number of us agreed: we would very much like to be able to read them.) From our collective silliness, Vomher (or "Vh'mhyrr," as their display name appears in that discord group) suggested the notes were Klein's shadow, trapped and put to paper. Then Mojo replied to that with:

And I found that to be a DELIGHTFUL mental image. (For context: Mihas is a fighter, and mentions boxing with shadows. Klein is a scientist who has definitely not lost any intellect to the eldritch substance he's studying and microdosing, insisting he can still turn his head quick enough to spot his shadow before it sneaks up on him. Mihas fights monsters so he should probably actually be attacking Klein because the good doctor is definitely Filth infected, but it's fine, this is for funsies.)

SO, as is my wont when folks say fun things, I doodled it! And boy howdy do I love the watercolor physics in Rebelle, it is SUCH a boon for dressing up (relatively) simple doodles. I used it for the fire, shadows, and filling in the fellas. Used wet layers for the latter two, so the pigment would just flow together and I wouldn't have to think too hard about shading (using the lineart/selections to keep the pigment contained). Then an oil brush for the Filth, so the impasto 3d effect would give an uncanny texture, on top of it being (hex code) "absolute zero" maximum entropy black. I've taken to using the default oil palette's "bone black" for lineart and such, which is a brown-tinted near-black. So when I use pure-zero digital-black, it stands out even if things are otherwise (mostly) monochrome! It's fabulous.

In a fit of incredible hubris I decided my EU alt not only needed an FC house, but a fully-decorated, The Secret World-themed FC house. Two months later I'm finally done. :')

The Goblet, Ward 2, Plot 20, Sagittarius

The upper floor is inspired by a shop in al-Merayah. Investigate beyond the curtain and you'll discover a stairwell with a mysterious Agarthan portal-inspired portal at the bottom, which will lead you to a space 'between' the world. There are many doors here, but only the secret one will lead you to a new place...

... A little house somewhere in the frozen north that may seem innocent enough at first glance, but evidence of fell magic is quickly evident.

This morning's drawing and painting practice is.... my Secret World/Secret World Legends character, Sverin Wilhelm Schreiber, PhD, Director of Infernal Investigations for the Council of Venice.

Beards terrify me still. I don't like it and feel like I need to add a few more layers of hair in there to give it volume. Not sure how I am going to do that. Also first time drawing glasses and did a weird experiment with it. I think they turned out okay, especially as a last minute addition when I was like FUCK WHERE ARE HIS GLASSES.

Sometimes I really miss that RP community. And then I'm reminded how utterly abandoned that whole IP is, and how there's only so much to keep people around when the whole game was gutted and some of the best missions removed in the relaunch, not to mention the entire playstyle being changed to so unintuitive it's infuriating. Oh, and there only being one new small half-baked blob of content in like a whole ass decade.

The first clue (Expanded)

A dull click and Gaz pressed the door to Storm’s apartment open.

Price had handed him the key and simply told him to go find out what happened to the sergeant. A red envelope lay open on his desk.

Gaz hummed as he slipped into the apartment and quietly slipped the door closed behind him. It was just a little before sunrise, orange light slowly creeping along the floor. Now he could take in the apartment in full. A kitchen to his right. A living area past that. A small hall to his left. Start with the hall.

The first door was a closet. The next was a bathroom.The final door was the bedroom.

All three were clean. No sign of struggle. No sign of forced entry on the door nor on the bedroom window. No clues in the closet or in the bathroom. That left the kitchen and living room.

Gaz stepped from the hall and into the living room. Again no signs of struggle. There was a little pile of mail on the coffee table. He quickly flipped through. Nothing stood out to him, well aside from the amount of letters from KingsMouth, Maine.

He moved to the kitchen. The cabinets were clear. The fridge was empty. Looks like Storm was preparing to return to base. A little cat statue was the only thing on the counter. Except he was pretty sure it wasn’t there when he entered the apartment. Pinned under its paws was a bright red envelope. Similar to the one in Price’s office. The one that said Storm was declared deceased.Gaz snatched the envelope up.

Gaz snatched up the envelope and quickly exited the apartment, pulling his phone out of his pocket as he went.

“Come on. Come one. Pick up, Captain.”

A click and Price’s voice filtered through the speaker. “What is it, Garrick?”

Gaz licked his lip as he breathed out a sigh of relief. “Found something, sir. Remember the envelope this morning?”

Price hummed in consideration. “What of it?”

“Storm had one as well.” Gaz rushed out as he climbed into the driver seat of his car.

“Well shit, ETA?” Price was calm, but Gaz could hear the slight edge of worry.

“About two hours.” Gaz turned the keys in the ignition.

“See you then, Garrick.” The line clicked dead as Gaz turned out of the apartment complex.

Gaz quietly handed the envelope off to Price and slipped into his seat at the table. Price cleared his throat as he took place at the head of the table.

“At 0900 I received an envelope." He taps the first red envelope. "This envelope contained the notice of KIA for Sergeant Storm. As we all know, Sergeant Storm was on extended leave from our last mission at the request of Laswell. This says they died on our last mission." He taps the second envelope. "I had Gaz go to Storm's place, and he found this. It has not been opened. Gaz, did you find anything else?”

“The apartment was clean. Looked like Storm was preparing to return here, sir.”

Price slipped the envelope off the table and flicked it open with a knife. A black card with  stylized griffin with a sword stabbed through it on the front. Dots and dashes were written on the back of the card.

What are your thoughts on the secret world ttrpg? Have you had a chance to read through the beta version of the book?

I have read through it, though not too thoroughly??? I've read enough to get a sense for it.

I'm a little disappointed I guess. I didn't have high hopes based on star anvil's questionable responses to the community in the beginning of the KS, but my curiosity and thirst for SWL content kept me on board.

They got a bunch of lore wrong which is kinda annoying me, and they're just changing things for no real reason... Like I hate to be a person to rag on artwork. But for all of the incredibly unique and interesting monster designs they have in the original game they're being changed to the absolutely most generic looking creatures. Also for the amount of monsters in the MMO the monster list they made feels really sparse. Perhaps there will be more added later? Idk. Tho I do appreciate some of the mechanics they came up with for a handful of the monsters like the filth explosions.

There's some interesting concepts and ideas in turning the MMO premise into a ttrpg? But boy am I bitter about the spells.

There is SOOOO much flavor in game they could've pulled from. Blood magic, chaos magic, spirit blades, flaming earth. There's really cool abilities and magic that exist in game they could've made into spells, but they did nothing. Literally every spell in the book is an official d&d 5e spell.

I want to enjoy it. I genuinely do cuz I LOVE both D&D and SWL. But boy it's hard not to see all the flaws or the things they could've/should've included.
