Anekdotische data

Ik heb altijd veel moeite gehad om een project af te baken. Om me laten inspireren en om perspectieven uit te wisselen, ben ik met een aantal hobby tot semi-professionele muzikanten gaan praten over wat AI voor het componeren van muziek zou kunnen betekenen. Na de 5 interviews heb ik een (informele) thematic analysis gedaan; codes uitgehaald en aan de hand daarvan een aantal thema’s geformuleerd (zie afbeelding (eerste keer met post-its gewerkt, ik was trots)).  

Een aantal interessante onderzoekrichtingen zijn:

- constraints in het muzikale proces: het forceert je creatiever te denken om het idee in je hoofd na te jagen. 

- Je wilt geen passagier zijn van je tools

- agent die getraind is specifiek op jou, zodat hij ook een deel van jou creativiteit ‘leert’/’simuleert’.

- creativiteit is een soort onderbewuste flow dat schuurt met de discreetheid van AI. Creativity = implicit, AI = explicit

- Door artificial intelligence verlies je een deel van het ongrijpbare

- Agents zouden handig zijn voor het zoeken naar een bepaald geluid dat je bijv. in je hoofd hebt, als je streeft naar bepaalde kwaliteiten in het geluid. Zoals ‘ik zou graag willen dat het ‘houterig’ klinkt. 

 - Jezelf centraal stellen in het bepalen van de purpose van de AI, en hem zelf trainen voor jou specifiek. 

- opbouwen legacies van algoritmes.

Ok so what is thematic analysis?

Before that, I have finished interview the expert required in my studies. And hired people to transcribe the interview since I am too busy with kids 😫. Now is the time to analyse the data.

In this study, we decided to use thematic analysis as guide and tool to do the analysis. So, basically there are 4 core steps involved in thematic analysis based on this video attached.

1. Familiarise yourself with the data by reading it several times. As you read, take note and write everything that comes to your mind. (important!!)

2. Do open coding by identifying meaningful chunks in your data. Your interpretation, don't afraid to do the coding. Read line by line..

3. Merge the open codes into several categories.

4. Merge the categories into themes. And name the themes that suits with your study. Make sure to explain later in your writing.

Its basically similar to the book that I referred, by Guest et al (2012). It is a good book to refer especially for qualitative research methods.
