luke will probably regret not confessing to you earlier but will also be happy that he got to spend as much time with you as possible before you passed. he'd look out into the night sky with a sad smile, he knows you're watching over him but he breaks down, sobbing uncontrollably. he misses you. so goddamn much

vyn would find himself reminiscing on the memories the both of you made. every part of the house holds a special memory and he while he seems all collected on the outside, as he's reminiscing, a tear falls down his cheek and he sobs. he misses you so much

artem would bury himself in work but just being in the office reminds him of times where you'd bring him lunch and sit by his side while the both of you enjoy your meals. he'd remember how your eyes sparkled when you started piecing information together to solve the case. he buries his head in his hands as he sobs silently

marius would also bury himself in work as a coping mechanism but when he goes on his phone, he sees the last message he sent you. him being his usual cheeky self, teasing you and you being flustered, he smiles fondly at your conversation and starts to read the chat log. he gets to a point where you said, "i love you marius, i'll always be by your side." he feels his eyes sting and blur from the tears welling up, his heart hurts, realising that he'd never hear those words from you again. he wishes you were still here

being vague on the off chance you didn’t finish the event yet but I CALLED the “plot twist” in Artem’s even route. The moment the game started and their trip was revealed I knew EXACTLY what happened and it was so validating and so funny to have that confirmed. I’m truly obsessed with Artem and his logic.

i think the funniest part of it all was him explaining that he kept replacing the raffle ticket in that one book like. several times. so the expiration date would be close enough to work. literally fucking insane behavior, im Also obsessed. we should work together and study this man under a microscope.

you're rereading the 1st anniv cards! is there anything standing out to you or any new perspectives you have on them, now that it's been year? --vynegar ^^

First, thank you for the ask and the question.

Secondly, this is going to get really, really long. I'll have to put most of it under the cut for length, because I write too much. lol

So fun fact, the 1st anniversary cards are the ones I tend to go back to quite a bit when I want to re-read something. There's a couple of cards of each suitor that I will actively search out and re-read, and the 1st anniversary cards are part of that. I just like the culmination of everything leading up to the first anniversary encapsulated in these cards.

It's really interesting going back into the stories and re-reading them, especially now that I have knowledge of the second anniversary cards and their stories. It's really interesting to see how many things the 2nd anniversary cards will call back to.

For example, I've just finished my re-read of Vyn's 1st anniversary card. So it was really nice to see that opening interaction of Vyn talking with his mother and hiding their actual relationship. I know what the payoff of that interaction will be in the 2nd anniversary card, and it makes the card story so much sweeter to re-read.

(I know there are likely more callbacks, but that's the one that came to mind.)

Mechanic-wise, I've always thought that it's really interesting how for the stories, Vyn and Luke's 1st anniversary card stories are the ones that end up requiring a bit of player input for that final push for the confession at the very end.

Considering the choice in Vyn's one is definitely emblematic of his and Rosa's relationship of "love makes you lose control and rationality," it makes sense why the player's choice is narrowed here and why Rosa has to take the initiative. It's also really telling, as I went back to read the story, that in the animated portion, Vyn seems to be shocked by Rosa's action in the climax of the story. Even this early in the relationship, it's so interesting seeing how Rosa can surprise Vyn and throw off his plans.

Up until this point in the confession, Vyn has been meticulous about planning everything. He's also made it very clear how he doesn't enjoy people meddling in his affairs, as seen by how he asks his mother whether she knew anything about what happened in Chapter 04 of his personal story, when Ogier and Rosa meet and whether or not, Ogier was under orders to give the bracelet to Rosa. When it's revealed that Ogier did it of his own free will, it pieces together why Vyn was shocked in Personal Story 04-04 when Vyn both saw the piece and heard the name. It was originally his mother's.

So with that being said, Vyn goes all out on his proposal for her. He utilizes all his connections to make the plans he envisions come to life. And then, in that final moment, when Vyn asks the question Rosa's been waiting for, Rosa doesn't answer initially, but kisses him. A show of how her love for him overwhelmed her rationality. As the game puts it, Rosa couldn't think. She could only feel. And she needed to communicate an answer to him somehow.

For Luke's one, the fact that you as the player/Rosa have to really push Luke for his confession arc to work. The player choice comes in only after you learn the truth, find him, and after Rosa accepts her feelings for him. As the player, you literally have to keep pushing Luke to get to the truth of the matter. You have to keep pushing him until you finally say what needs to be said and he hears you. The important part to me, is the fact that he has to hear you.

Until the last part of his confession story, Luke's been very hesitant to tell Rosa the truth about what's going on with him. Even still, when he does decide to tell her, he has to do it in a letter. He's pushing her away. Rosa has to track down Luke to get him to be honest with her in person. But even in person, Luke still tries to push Rosa away. He tries to come up with reasons that he can't be with her. But ultimately, the reasons fall away when he finally sees the tears and sees her being vulnerable.

It's one of the reasons that I like the Rosa and Luke dynamic here. When Luke starts listing off the reasons he can't be with her, she cuts straight to chase. No matter what option you choose, she forces Luke to listen to her. This is important, because as childhood friends, they know what will rile each other up. For this story in particular, she wants Luke to say what's on his mind. She needs to push past Luke's rationality to get him to say what's on his mind, uncensored. Rosa succeeds in getting him emotional enough that the mask he had on initially, slips. It's through that crack in his mask that Rosa's words chisel away the presumptions Luke has about how much Rosa loves him. It's when he hears her, that their kiss happens.

Additional things I've also found interesting, but might not be able to expand on because I've talked a lot as is.

The usage of Vyn hiding away while Rosa goes through the mansion (i.e. Vyn as the unseen voice) - Going back to Vyn's confession, I also thought it really interesting how for the majority of the time that Rosa is in the mansion, she doesn't see Vyn. I agree that it's a callback to what happened when they first met with the automatic door and the "NXX evaluation." But I also thought it was interesting choice because I also think it's a callback to how guarded Vyn is. Especially at the first anniversary, when he's got this grand plan to let Rosa know how he feels. But up until this point, Vyn doesn't normally let down his guard... that is, until he's in front of his recorder. Whenever he's been in front of the recorder (in the main story or in his own stories), that's when he lets his guard down more. So I thought it was an excellent choice to have Vyn audibly walk her through the different places that hold meaning for them, not only to build up to his grand plan, but also so he can be honest and intimate with her in a way he hasn't been up to this point.

The fact that Marius manages to give his gift to Rosa before their kiss, while everyone else give their gifts to Rosa after.

Marius and Payton's close relationship in the 1st anniversary card pays dividends in the Blizzardous Threads of Red Event story. Oof.

Artem's interactive part in the 1st confession story is also really minor and happens earlier on before the confession, but it's also something that needed to happen in my opinion, both character-wise and story-wise, in order to lead up to the confession.

The fact that Rosa manages to surprise both Artem and Vyn in their respective cards. Luke and Marius are the ones that take initiative in their cards.

Artem's very "public" confession compared with the others. Though to be fair, it was initially a lot more intimate during the moment of the actual confession. Compared with the general plans of everyone else, it does come off very spur of the moment, and I appreciate how it's a rare look into how Artem's best laid plans can continue to be foiled.

I also think it was very telling that Artem chose somewhere less traditional for his confession as opposed to a more, "ceremonial venue," as he put it. Compared to the other three confessions, where they had a general idea of what was going to happen and where to bring Rosa, Artem admits that when he saw Rosa at the airport, he threw his plans out the window. He just wanted her to let go of her troubles and relax.

The fact that Artem's card had an additional activity for both of them in addition to the confession (i.e. the maze they go through)

Marius and Artem admit their 'I love you's' to Rosa first. Luke does too, but via letter. Though in person, Rosa ends up admitting that she loves Luke before Luke does. Also, in Vyn's card, Rosa ends up saying 'I love you' before Vyn (though Vyn used other means to admit his feelings other than the words 'I love you.')

I imagine if I did more re-reading, I'd find more details. But I just thoroughly enjoy these stories and how much thought was put into them. There's so much more to talk about, and I likely could end up writing pages upon pages of stuff if I wasn't stopped.

oh i got you! i have many thoughts and emotions for themis law firm way more than canon warrants lmao

celestine and jeremy have been an integral support system for artem in the past years, especially after neil’s disappearance. they don’t know the details and aren’t privy to artem’s nxx involvement but any time artem looks the slightest bit bothered (and tellingly when it doesn’t have to do with a work case), she’s the one dragging artem to eat dinner or go watch a show with her and jeremy to destress.

celestine means well but she has a busybody streak. she’s very invested in artem’s happiness via love, in part because (1) she feels indebted to him for his unconditional faith in taking a chance with her when starting out her firm. (2) as her friend, she just wants to see him happy.

and (3) she sees a little bit of herself in him. starting your own firm is an ambitious and labor-intensive move. celestine probably was as much of a workaholic as the best of them before realizing that work can’t be the only factor for a fulfilling life, which is a lesson compounded by her relationship with jeremy and one she wants to impart to artem

celestine probably also sees a lot of herself in rosa. as much as rosa admires and wants to emulate artem i think rosa joined themis equally because of celestine. and while artem’s more her partner, celestine’s more her proper mentor. it’s kind of delightful to think of celestine initially getting to know rosa because she takes her wingwoman duties seriously then genuinely befriending her purely because she enjoys getting to know her as an individual outside of their relation to artem

given that jeremy’s love was unrequited for some time, celestine, being savvy with relationships, would have probably been aware of his feelings even if he didn’t express them. she didn’t return them at first not necessarily bc she didn’t feel the same but because she was so focused on work.

artem’s not as close with jeremy as he is with celestine but as both reserved and intellectually-minded men, they share a kindred spirit and understanding that’s different from either of their dynamics with her.

it’d be really funny if jeremy was slightly intimidated and jealous of artem as a first impression. it’s only after clearing up his misunderstanding of their relationship with celestine and witnessing firsthand that artem really has no game whatsoever that he sheepishly starts a friendship with him.

kiki drags rosa with her to boy band concerts and other fan meetups. rosa appreciates it (like theoretically/musically) but she doesn’t get it. she likes to indulge her friend anyway. as a result, she’s probably accumulated like a wikipedia’s worth of secondhand pop idol knowledge that she doesn’t know what to do with.

celestine loooveeess to tease kiki. she teases everyone but because kiki is so earnest and highly impressionable, it’s almost too easy. kiki knows more than she lets on but she keeps up the pretense of being celestine’s unwitting target because she understands that’s how her boss shows affection and camaraderie

kiki is way too bowed over by artem’s professionalism and her respect for him to ever form a casual rapport. maybe once rosa and artem become more established, it’ll be easier to approach him that way outside of work but it’ll probably be only when kiki becomes a fully fledged attorney that she’ll feel comfortable doing so. on his part, artem is aware that he can be pretty unapproachable to his juniors, so he shows his care for them in the form of assistance or mentorship. so when kiki’s having trouble with her exam prep as she studies during a lunch break, artem is usually the first to help (if not rosa). or for example if artem learns that kanon clark is holding an exclusive fan event, he will let rosa know by proxy so she can inform kiki and invite her.

dr. kimberly garner is possibly the only one in the world that celestine is properly daunted by purely because she’s idolized the woman since freshman year of university and any time artem invites her for lunch with his mother, celestine will become giggly and uncharacteristically flustered

artem insinuates in the 2nd anniversary that he fell in love with rosa at first sight. or at the very least, he had some glimpse into the future (like koi no yokan) that she would be important to him in that way. artem had seen rosa before during a play in college and knew her tangentially because of his mother, but i imagine during their official introduction when rosa was coming in to interview for the firm, that meeting her for the first time was major whiplash. and celestine who was there conducting the interview beside him probably knew when artem fell in deep before he even did because never in all the years of their friendship had he ever looked like that much less look at someone else like that.

You wanted thoughts on the ToT debacle, here you go. For me, I'm not a fan. It's already alarming that the JP dub will only be accessible in card stories moving forward, since normally, decisions like that usually foreshadow a sever shutdown for mobile games. But as a player it also severely limits my enjoyment of the game, as I got used to the JP portrayal of the characters. I've listened to the other dubs, but I preferred the JP dub. The stellar voice acting cast was also something that caught my eye when I initially found out about the game, and I was excited for it. But without the voice casting, it makes the characters more flat for me, since the little intricacies of the Voice Actor performances brought them to life. Also, as someone who get distracted easily, listening to the voices also made the main story and personal stories easier to go through. I could sorta follow along with the JP dub- it felt like an audio drama podcast.

But I think the biggest impact for me is the gating of content behind a paywall, while simultaneously giving less to players. Trying to pull a single SSR is a herculean effort, as it requires 18,000 S-Chips (depending on luck, since it might not even be the SSR I want). But considering the amount of grinding time needed, I wonder if it really is worth it. There's less and less reason for me to come back to the game with the decrease in dubbed JP content. While I was starting to save for the Top Ups, I'm not sure that I'm willing to put money into Miyoho like this. Miyoho's other projects aren't being as scaled back as Themis is, and crucially, they still haven't added back Artem's JP dub to the Chapter 6 main story or to Chapter 3 of his Personal Story, after they had promised to. I don't know if the announcement means that they will not be adding back Artem's JP dub at all, but it's something to keep in mind. For me personally, it's cemented my decision to not spend any money on this game and to minimize my playtime on the game going forward. I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end, but only time will tell.

hiya anon! thank you so much for the response, it made me think about things i personally hadn't considered so i really appreciate it. firstly, i've never heard about the server shutdown thing - that is super concerning omg. though i can't imagine hoyoverse actually shutting down one of their games since they're such a big company but who am i to say that LMAO

and you're completely right about not being able to enjoy the story anymore without the JP voices, if you're a player who prefers that dub. each player has become attached to whatever dub they're used to (like me personally im used to CN dub) so to switch to something that's different to the portrayal of the character you have come to know must be really jarring. and im super glad that JP dub made it easier for you to go through the stories, it's just sad knowing you and many other players will no longer have that experience :(

and omg. your second paragraph hit the nail on the head. im surprised i didnt think of this before (i got distracted by the 15 tears we got in the mail and forgot hyv barely gives us anything anymore) this is something that's made me stop playing the game as much too. all the grinding we have to do for S-chips feels futile because of how much we need to save to guarantee the ssr we want. and hoyoverse keeps dropping banner after banner (even though it's literally messing up the timeline) whilst barely giving us time to save up. it's so frustrating. ive felt like this for a while now, but it feels even worse now that you've reminded me it's gating content behind a paywall (especially for JP dub users in this case)

You put it on the default Invitations. So if you have a fancy Invitation applied, you won't be able to see this anyway.

When you go to invitations pick Vyn

Click on the interact button and there will be a wardrobe and scenery option.

And there will be a bunch of backgrounds to choose from, the Bedrrom included (I already put it on)

okay but the writing for the game in general has been so shitty lately, like? during this artem's bday event, when they go to the cat cafe (!!), something he asked for (!!!), and even got nervous about since the cats could dislike him (!!!!), MC throws a whole tantrum over a cat cuddling with artem, to the point he's like "okay, we'll never visit this place again!" like it's so normal and romantic 😍 to be so jealous over A CAT being affectionate you literally ruin the plans you boyfriend was excited about? and MC doesn't even question his decision to never do the harmless thing he wished he could enjoy again just because it made her irrationally upset? god, this made ME irrationally upset because it could've been such a wholesome moment for them both but instead we got... whatever the fuck was that. jail to whoever's been writing the artem route.

i literally just got to this part last night and could not believe what i was reading, like?? i find possessiveness to be infinitely worse. anyone in a romantic relationship with someone possessive needs to get the fuck out. i'm very much of the opinion that a relationship being romantic doesn't make it superior to platonic or familial ones, so possessiveness being played as cute and romantic drives me up the WALL!!
