Fanfic Rec: 00Q Part 3

It’s been more than a year! I have totally been procrastinating in doing this if I’m truly honest. A lot of things happened in my life as well! There are good and bad things, but what matters most is that I still have a number of fics to recommend for you! I haven’t stopped reading, don’t worry.

Also I think it’s a good time to post my list. The next Bond movie has released its trailer and the 00Q crumbs we got from the trailer got a lot of shippers back on board. If you’re that person, you might want to check these fanfics out!

Breaking his leg in a freak accident, James camps out at Q’s flat when the white-washed, soulless walls of Medical become too much for him to tolerate. Unfortunately, his leg is only the beginning of Bond’s health problems, and Q is conscripted into being James’ caretaker. Confined to the close quarters of Q’s flat, the Quartermaster finds himself opening back up to the agent, but will the two men find their way to one another as they should have done years ago, or is time no longer on their side?

So I guess that’s it for now! I still have a couple in my belt, but most of them are still WIP so I’d keep them for now. I’ll be adding them once they are finished.

Why I hate seeing the Uchiha logo on Sakura’s shirt/why I don’t ship SasuSaku

DISCLAIMER: I’m not shitting on anyone’s ship. I get it. You love them. You do you booboo, I’m just here to speak my truth. Don’t come at me with comments shitting all over the things I love. You have your opinion and I have mine.

If you are a SasuSaku shipper and you read past this point, you have no one but yourself to blame for your anger!

I’m probably gonna rant a bit, so I’ll start with the bottom line. Sakura and Sasuke’s relationship is one of the most toxic relationships I’ve ever seen.

Unrelated (but kind of related): All the female character are written pretty shitty, and that adds to this whole mess.

Part I [Young Love]:

Okay. I get it. She’s all for Sasuke and he doesn’t give her the time of day. We love a queen that gets hers in the end. The problem is that Sakura’s core personality traits are based off of her obsession. Her wants. Her flaws. Her essence as a [non] person is completely defined by Sasuke’s character. This is even verified when Kakashi asks them about themselves and Sakura literally gives [giggles] Sasuke for every answer.

When they’re tested with the bells, Sakura shows no ninja prowess whatsoever. She shows no skill beyond hiding in a bush. The only time we really see her moving/thinking/talking, is when it’s to ‘rescue Sasuke’. She even refers to him as ‘my Sasuke’ a dozen or so times. Seriously, it could be a drinking game.

During the chunin exams, we see a little more of a backbone from Sakura. But even as she struggles to make herself be seen, she really only wants to be seen by – you guessed it – Sasuke.

When Sasuke gets extra angsty [YOLO style], and tries to leave the village, Sakura tries to go with him. Think about that. Sakura tries to leave the village. Her home. Her family. Her friends. Everything! She does this because the idea of becoming a criminal is more appealing than being left behind by Sasuke.

But you know what? I’ll excuse it. She’s only thirteen at this point. She’s entitled to make stupid choices in the name of puppy love. We’ve all been there, man. And sure, at thirteen all love feels like true love. You know what girl? I forgive you.

Part II [Personal Growth]

At this point, Sakura’s whole character arch is defined by the people that leave her. And I could forgive this – almost. Enter Tsunade. I love Tsunade. I worship Tsunade. She is probably the one female character in the whole show that is as well integrated as the men [if we ignore the fact that her whole backstory is revolved around them]. When Sakura started training with Tsunade, I knew there was about to be an Eye of the Tiger montage. Sure enough, my girl comes through. Come Shippuden, Sakura is kicking ass and taking names [literally]. Better yet, she found her niche in medical ninjutsu [insert joke about how females always play the healers]. She’s got chakra for days and the control of a saint. Piss my girl off? You ‘bout to lose a lung.

Yes, Sakura’s still insecure when it comes to her place among the others, but can we blame her? She had demi-gods as teammates. But it’s different now. Sakura knows she’s a badass. She’s fully aware that her control and strength are something to be proud of. She uses those years of neglect and training to help her comrades!... and chase down Sasuke.

By the beginning of the 4th war, this bitch has lost her damn mind. At this point, Sakura and Naruto have been searching for Sasuke for the last 3 [or so] years. All this time, Sakura is under the impression that she’s in love with him. The times from when Sasuke left to the end of the war, are some of the most defining years in a person’s life. At 13-17 is when a person’s personality really starts to develop and lay out the foundation for the adult they will be.

Part III [All’s Fair]

Now, I’m not saying that Sakura didn’t hold a certain level of love for Sasuke her whole life. It’s very possible. However, there was no way it could be a romantic love. Think about who you were when you were twelve. Now think about who you were at seventeen. Did anything change in that time?

Sakura could not have been in love with Sasuke because she didn’t know who he was. They hadn’t been in contact in years! She had the memory of who he had been on a pedestal, and without him around to alter that image, it became more and more idyllic. By the time Sasuke returned [at the end of the war], Sakura was still in love with the idea of him.

She had put their relationship and romance in the forefront of her mind all of her life. It had been her driving force and defining mindset. When this crazy ass bitch [ily gurl] activated her seal and literally jumped on a pike for her boys, it was the most badass thing she’d ever done. And when she was done with that? She got upset that Sasuke hadn’t noticed/cared. She was fighting for her friends, her family, her village, her life… and all that confidence she had gained was brought down by the fact that the boy she thought she loved didn’t notice.

Part IV [In Which Sasuke Cares… Allegedly]

Remember when Sakura finally got Sasuke to notice her? When he overcame his terminal broodiness and admitted that he was touched that she never gave up hope in him? When he kissed her goodbye with the promise of returning and being worth all of her unfounded love and attention?

Oh… right… that never happened.

I mean… he tapped her forehead like Itachi did to him that one time… Same thing I suppose.

Okay, okay… I might be being a little harsh. I’ll concede that it is a genuine act of affection for Sasuke. But… a minor one. Alright, our broody boi doesn’t like PDA… Still, we’re given no indication that they talked about their feelings before this goodbye. That’s backed up by the fact that she asks to go with him – something she would have done before now if they had. Legit, Naruto got more of a goodbye than Sakura did [two dudes, chillin’ in the woods].

To the best of everyone’s knowledge, Sasuke only stayed in Konoha for about a year after the war. Now, depending if you follow the manga or anime, some of that time might have been in jail. My point is, that a year or less was spent in the village after several years of Sakura loving him from a distance.

At this point, she very well might have learned about the older Sasuke. She might have decided that she did still love him [doubtful on a realistic level]. But then he leaves. We’re not sure for how long, but if we look at Boruto, it’s common for him to leave for long periods of time.

Once again, Sakura is left behind with her memories of the man she thinks she loves [because without a functioning adult relationship, there’s no way to be sure].

Part V [Sakura Achieves Her Nightmare Dreams]

Let’s step into Boruto for this next part. We flash forward to all of our beloved characters in their adult years. I know what you’re thinking ‘Oh! I’ve missed so much! They’re all so grown up!’. Hahaha, don’t worry. They’re not at all the same people.

Since the series is based on the children, we’re forced to fill in some of the blanks ourselves. Sakura – the best medic nin in Konoha. The woman whose strength rivals that of her mentor’s. The woman who mastered the Seal of 100. The woman who grew into her own as a character, even if the driving force was a boy - is living her best life as… a housewife? I mean... maybe?

We don’t know this for sure, and a lot of us hope she runs the hospital or something [because we want all good things for our girl], but have you noticed that she doesn’t wear a headband? A ninja one that is. The girl who worked hard to not be left behind’s whole adulthood is… the woman left behind.

Even if it can be argued that she achieved her goal… has she? Yes, she wanted to be Sasuke’s wife and baby mama since waaaaay too young of an age to be thinking about that shit, but like this? We know from the fact that Sakura fainted when Sasuke came home that he’s rarely there. This means that she probably raised their daughter alone. Even now, she can’t just leave because Sasuke’s always away.

If you think I’m taking libraries with filling in the gaps, I refer you to that one time her daughter basically asked if they were really married. And if you think I’m exaggerating Sasuke’s absence, I refer you to that time he almost killed his fucking daughter because he didn’t know what she looked like!

Let that sink in.

Part VI [In Summation]

Sakura was a girl that grew up with a false ideal of love. She obsessed over a person that didn’t exist and carried that falsehood into her adult life. When presented with everything she thought she had wanted her whole life, Sakura jumped on the chance because it was the logical move. In gaining everything that she thought she wanted, Sakura lost any personal growth that she had gained by the absence of her obsession aka Sasuke.

Sasuke, who had ignored her as a child, tried to kill her as a teen, and barely acknowledged her beyond using her to revive his clan, can’t be bothered to even appreciate her. Even as he leaves again as an adult, he says goodbye to their daughter [again, with an oh-so-affectionate poke], but simply walks away from Sakura.

The truth is that given the way she blushes and faints around him still, Sakura doesn’t know him. She’s still in love with an idea of the man that grew from the boy she had been obsessed with all her life. She wears the Uchiha symbol on her back as a reminder that she did it. She got the guy! True love wins again! I mean… maybe? He’s fucked her at least, so…

There’s a chance that Sasuke loves Sakura. I think he loves her for loving him. At the very least, we know he’s fond of her… I assume.

Sakura was a character that was used to further the plot of a man. Even as an adult, she’s left to sit and pine as the boys go off on their adventures. She’s a woman that’s stuck in a hell of her own creation – even if she loves her daughter and the things that marrying Sasuke has brought her.

There’s ‘getting the guy’ and being trapped in a toxic idealized relationship. How you choose to see this one is up to you.

Carter took a deep breath and clasped his hands together as his feet tapped a little rhythm on the wooden floor of your parents living room. The butterflies grew each second that he was alone in the living room, waiting for your father to join him. You didn’t know that he was here, you actually thought that he was headed to Nolan's place to play poker with him and some of the boys. Instead, he came here to talk to your father to ask him a very important question; if he could marry his daughter.

When he had knocked on the door, your father was the one who greeted him instead of your mother, who must have been at the store. Carter had asked him if he could talk to him for a while, hoping that maybe his amount of nerves would give off a small hint that he was going to talk to him about your relationship and his desire to take it to the next step. Your dad had let Carter in the house and told him to just take a seat in the living room and that he’d be back shortly.

So there he was 5 minutes later, still sitting alone in the living room, his nerves eating him alive. When he finally got the nerves to look up from his hands, he looked to the left towards the fireplace and saw a ton of picture frames lined up with home decor on a ledge. He couldn’t bear to sit on the couch anymore and slowly stood up, walking over towards the fireplace to check out the pictures. The closer to the pictures he got, the more he began to realize who was in them.

He started to smile the moment he looked at the first picture of a younger you and your little sister dressed as Disney princesses in the backyard of your childhood home, on Halloween. Your cheeky smile was still the same smile you had to this day whenever you saw anything Disney. He always told you that you were such a kid at heart, in which you'd reply to him by sticking out your tongue and calling him a meanie. As he moved down the pictures, he saw a ton of milestones frozen in time of you and your younger sisters life. There was one of you riding your bike with your dad trailing not so far behind you. Another of you jumping on your bed wearing a little purple nightgown with a golden retriever puppy on it.

He kept moving down to pictures of you running through sprinklers as your very pregnant mom was standing there laughing at her goofy girl. He reached the end of the ledge, he leaned in a bit closer and picked up the second to last picture frame. It was a close up of you when you were around the age of 5 or 6, in a fourth of July themed outfit and smiling big at the camera. Your two front teeth were missing and you had popsicle stains all over her face as you held two half-eaten popsicles in both of your hands. The toddler image holding many resemblances of you even now, at 25 years old. It made him smile and he could feel his nerves start to ease like they always did when you were around; you were his other half.

“She lost her two front teeth eating that popsicle.” He turned around and saw your father standing in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room with two glasses of water in his hands. He walked over and handed Carter a glass, then turned his attention to the picture frames. He picked up the last one on the edge and held it in his hands, looking at it. “I know why you’re here Carter.”

Carter placed the picture frame that he was holding back, onto its spot and sucked in his lips. “You do?”

He nodded, not looking at him. “I do. I think I’ve known for quite some time. He took a deep breath and sighed. "I see the way you look at her, with pure love in your eyes like she’s the only thing in the room and that look hasn’t changed ever since you picked her up for that first date over her fall break her sophomore year of college.”

My eyes stayed on him, my mind in complete shock that he had said that. “I do sir, I really love (Y/N) so much. She’s my other half, she brings out the best in me and I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without her.”

He nodded and laughed to himself quietly as he took a drink of his water. “I prayed to God for someone like you to come into her life ever since she was a little girl. Someone who would always treat her right, respect her, never hold her back. A guy who’d push her to achieve her dreams and just love her like she’s the only girl in the world. The day she mentioned you asking her on a date, I'll admit...I was a little unsure. I was a professional athlete was son, so I knew the lifestyle," he took another sip of his drink, shaking his head. "But I had this feeling in my gut…and it was a good one. Then I met you and when (Y/N) came down the steps and I saw the look in your eyes…I knew God had answered my prayers.”

Carter smiled to himself, reminiscing on the day he finally mustered up the courage to ask you on a date. How Claude and Simmonds gave him a little girl advice on how to woo you, the most important being– 'don't ever listen to a word Nolan or TK give.' And while he took that to mind, he also knew that if it wasn't for the two best friends, then he never would have met you.

Travis had been hooking up with your college roommate, and it was a night at Ladder 15 where everything started. Carter had used his status as THAT rookie goalie for the Flyers to get into the bar, ignoring the fact that he was a year short of being welcomed into the bar legally. You had used a fake I.D. provided by your roommates' Senior brother who couldn't remember the hookup that it belonged to. You hadn't wanted to even go to the bar, preferring to stay in bed and watch ‘How To Get Away With Murder’, instead– but your roommate, Chelsea, begged you to come along since she was invited by her most recent catch off the market– Travis Konecny, of your hometown's own, Philadelphia Flyers.

Carter could still see the look on your face as your roommate dragged you over to where the group of hockey players and a few girls plucked from the crowd, stood in their own VIP booth. It's the very thing that drew him to you– how unbothered you looked by who they were and like him, wanted to be anywhere else but here. You'd caught him staring a few times, the first time you held eye contact with him for a few seconds before looking at the complimentary bottled beverages resting on a table to your right. The second time, he had looked away just as fast as your eyes locked in. You could've sworn you'd seen a little blush on his cheeks, but maybe it was the lightning.

Carter wasn't sure how to approach you. Sure, he could use the whole 'I'm a professional hockey player' card, but he had a gut feeling that maybe, it wouldn't have been the smartest move. Nolan had watched the last two awkward eye contacts, and swooped in next to Carter, handing him two untouched Corona's and said– "Dude, talk to her about her shirt," before shoving Carter into your direction– causing the third and final time the two of you made eye contact from across the booth.

Since Chelsea and sprung your trip to the bar on you so late, you had put on the nicest (and only clean) pair of high-waisted jeans you could find and kept on your Old Dominion concert tee that you'd added some spruced DIY to– making cute, and maybe very strategic cuts around the collar and back. While you thought that the shirt was too drab for the bar, Carter thought differently– he loved Old Dominion, and he was glad Nolan had pointed out the shirt, otherwise, he'd be stuck staring at you like a creeper from across the bar.

Which maybe could have been a good thing, since he couldn't bring himself to form any kind of coherent sentence to talk to you. As he felt the blush creep on his cheeks, he had shoved the corona into your chest and blurted out– "I like them."

God, he could still feel the way the nerves from embarrassment and from the way you smiled at him, electrifying his whole body. But you had laughed and then eased into a conversation– and the rest was history. All the face time calls when he was on roadies, the first time he gave you tickets to a game, sleeping over in your dorm or at his apartment, meeting your parents when he came to pick you up for a date, meeting his parents after a game, traveling back to his hometown for the summer, supporting him at the iihf worlds after his second pro season...moving in together– all of it, all five years of history had led to this moment right now. A moment, that when Carter thought back on hard enough, he knew was going to happen, no matter what.

“As weird as this sounds sir, the first time that I met (Y/N) I could tell that she was remarkable." Carter smiled, as the memories of that first night, flashed through his mind. "She's smart, strong-willed, passionate...a little stubborn, but to me she's perfect. And I can't thank you enough for raising her to be the beautiful young woman that she is today. She's...I just love her a lot." He saw a smile slowly appear on your father's face as his grip on the picture frame tightened a tad and his eyes squinted. “So I was wondering if I could have your blessing to marry (Y/N),” Carter said, swallowing back all of his fears and hoping that your father would look at him... at least once.

His heart ached the moment he saw your father's lips tighten, and for a moment he thought that he was going to say no. He whispered a million little prayers in his mind as he looked at your father. Your father then sighed as he looked up at the ceiling, and then for the first time since he answered the door, he looked at Carter with tears building in his eyes. “You have my blessing to marry my daughter. I couldn’t imagine her marrying any other man.” A wave of relief washed over Carter as he let out the breath that he was holding for what felt like forever, but was only for a few seconds. Your father placed the picture frame down and looked at the floor, then took one finger and wiped it across his eye, looking at him. “Just promise me you’ll take care of her for the rest of your lives.”

Carted nodded, excitement starting to build inside of him. “I promise sir.”

He smiled and nodded his head. “Alright, well I was about to head out to Home Depot to get some wood for the gazebo I’m making Betty for the Garden. She’s been hinting towards wanting one for months now and I just finished the blueprints. Would you like to tag along?”

“I’d love to. Maybe I could help you build it as well?” Carter asked, taking a long drink of his water.

“That’d be great Carter, thank you. Let me just grab my keys and wallet off of the kitchen counter and we can go.” He said, taking his empty glass and his own glass and walking into the kitchen.

Carter smiled, doing a little dance in his mind and pumping his fist in the air at the fact that he got your father’s blessing. He turned and looked at the picture frame your father had been holding the entire time, which was the last one of the ledge. A frame that Carter himself, hadn't gotten a chance to look at since your father had picked it up before he could. He looked towards the kitchen to see that your father wasn’t coming back yet and picked up the picture frame, looking at the picture inside it and seeing what he had his eyes glued on the entire conversation they had about you.

Then it hit him as to why your father couldn’t look at him when he had asked him for his blessing. How he had avoided even looking up at Carter in his own moment of reminiscence of your first meeting...and how he took in a sharp breath the moment Carter had mentioned how you were a beautiful young woman.

He still saw you as his baby girl. The little girl in this picture who always begged for the same bedtime story. Who would steal his shirts and ties and try to follow him out the door on his way to work because she ‘wanted to be like daddy.’ His little girl who wore her Cinderella dress 24/7, even to her first day of school. And Carter was the one who was whisking her away– and in your father's eyes, it was like Carter was taking you from him.

He was stealing Cinderella.

Thoughts on TROS

So I’ve received a few asks asking about my thoughts on The Rise of Skywalker, and I haven’t replied because I have many thoughts and I’m still processing stuff. But yesterday @riselioness messaged me to ask the same, so I thought it was time to try and organise them on a page.Yes, I am very, very late to this party.

Obviously spoilers, so I’ll put it under a cut. Also, I’ve only seen the movie once, and that was back in December, so my memory might be a little hazy. I probably need to see it again.

For the sake of context, I have no OTP for the sequel trilogy, but I have been known to read Reylo and Damerey on occasion. (And randomly Gingerflower – aka Hux/Rose – purely because of that TLJ deleted scene where she bites him!) Let me tell you, being on the outside of the shipping wars has been very interesting, and it seems abundantly clear to me that your enjoyment of TROS depends greatly on who you ship, or whether you ship at all. I would have been happy if Finnrose endured or Stormpilot became a thing, but ah well. Onwards!

I’ll try and keep this somewhat cohesive, but I feel like it’s going to be all over the place. Apologies.

Let’s start simple. Stuff I liked that doesn’t have a ‘but’ attached:

- Lando (where’s he been all this time?)

- Wedge (where’s he been all this time?)

- Finn being able to show his individuality with clothing and hair that’s his choice

- Purely for shallow reasons, Poe’s outfit

- Poe and Rey channelling Han and Leia with their bickering at the start

- The Force bond stuff was visually stunning with the dual locations

- Luke’s expression after he raises the X-wing, like ‘Yeah, finally nailed it!’

- Ben Solo channelling his father – also Adam Driver in general for making Ben so very different from Kylo with just body language and facial expressions alone. He literally moved like a huge weight had been lifted from him, and it was pretty amazing to watch

- The fact that Rey’s mother is Villanelle from Killing Eve

- Kaydel looking like Endor Leia at the end

- LGBTQ representation!

- Seeing young Luke and Leia

The stuff with Leia was very poignant and emotional, but I can’t exactly say it was good. It’s tricky. I don’t feel like I’ve separated Leia from Carrie in my mind, so it’s really hard to look at it objectively. I do know that when Chewie howled after Leia’s death, I teared up pretty much immediately!

I have mixed feelings about the trio interaction. Don’t get me wrong, it was nice to see them together, and I love their banter, BUT it felt incredibly forced. Shoving them together for the sake of them being together does a disservice to all three characters. This was the last movie. They should all have been developing their individual stories at that point. Rey with her Jedi stuff, (which she does get to go off and do, but not without Finn traipsing after her like a lost puppy), Poe finding his feet as a leader of the Resistance, and Finn doing literally anything else other than running after Rey yelling her name all the time.

There was a lot of stuff that I wanted to like, but mostly it came across as missed opportunities. Such as:

- Jannah and the other former stormtroopers – this would have been such an interesting idea to develop, and would have given Finn a cool storyline of his own that didn’t involve Rey. I would have liked to see Finn reaching out to current stormtroopers, persuading them that they had other options. That would have been cool. A stormtrooper revolution turning the tide of the final battle!

- Finn’s Force sensitivity – where did this come from? Okay, so maybe it was hinted at in TFA, but it wasn’t carried over to TLJ, and JJ should have respected that in the interest of cohesive storytelling. And as interesting as it could have been to see, it doesn’t take any strength away from Finn to have him not be Force sensitive.

- Hux being the spy – this is such an interesting idea, and it’s hilarious to me that he would go to such lengths to be petty towards Kylo, but it was executed in a rush, much like a lot of other stuff in this movie. They could have made Rose his handler, which would have been a nice change in their dynamic after TLJ.

Stuff I did not like: (warning, rants ahead)

- Completely unnecessary new characters – elaborated below

- Pryde – what was the point of him? Hux could have easily fulfilled that role if they didn’t want to develop his spy storyline.

- Zorri – could have been cool, but seemed shoehorned in to remind us that Poe Dameron is straight, thank you very much!

- Poe being a former spice runner – just why? Poe already had a perfectly good back story.

- Palpatine being back – I know opinions vary on this, but I’m not a fan. Doesn’t it just cheapen Anakin’s entire story arc? (This is not to take anything away from Ian McDiarmid’s performance, which was amazing as always.) Also the complete lack of a reasonable explanation for how he returned. In fact, doesn’t someone even use the word ‘somehow’ at some point?

- Rey Palpatine – again, I know opinions vary, but I hated this so much. I’ve been team Rey No One since the beginning! This is our first female protagonist, and in my opinion the thought that she came from completely humble beginnings was fascinating. To link her to a powerful name – a powerful male name, at that – and for it to be literally stated that her power comes from him was just kind of deflating, to be honest. Also, it makes no sense. Are we expected to believe that Luke there-is-good-in-Vader Skywalker writes off his own nephew because of his potential darkness but is A-OK being a mentor to Rey Palpatine?

- Leia knowing that Rey is a Palpatine – this makes no sense either to me. Leia accepts and nurtures Rey despite her bloodline, sensing that there is good in her, yet thinks that her own son is irredeemable? The sense of ‘we had a bad child, but we found a better one’ is just…ugh. And this happens throughout the ST, even with all the Jedi standing behind Rey having abandoned Ben for years. Even if you believe that Rey is more deserving of that attention, the callousness just doesn’t seem very Jedi-like to me.

- Leia’s reasons for giving up her Jedi training made no sense.

- The sidelining of Rose – it seems painfully clear that JJ had no idea what to do with her character, so she’s just kind of…there. I refuse to believe that they couldn’t have come up with something, even if it was just her accompanying Finn or Poe on their storylines. That wouldn’t have given her a whole lot of agency, but it would have been something.

- Rey ending up alone on a desert planet, exactly where she started. Yes, I know she’s likely not going to live there, but visually the movie is showing us that nothing has really changed. We know Rey wants a family, and the hug with Finn and Poe was lovely to see, but to have the last image of her be her alone on a desert planet is actually kind of depressing.

- Rey calling herself a Skywalker – like the Palpatine thing, it’s linking her to someone else’s legacy. I think it would have been more powerful for her to declare herself ‘Just Rey’. No one’s on at Finn to declare his surname, are they?

Now on to the big one. Bendemption and Reylo.

I have been hoping for Bendemption from the beginning, because redemption, compassion and forgiveness were key themes of the OT for me. But I had a feeling that if Kylo did get redeemed, he’d be doomed to die, because as we know, JJ likes to follow the exact same patterns that we’ve already seen before. I have issues with Vader’s ‘redemption’ on the grounds of it being a ridiculously quick turnaround, (quicker than Kylo’s, even), plus he gets an easy way out just returning to the Light and then dying straight after. Lo and behold, the exact same thing happens here. What would have been really interesting to see, in my opinion, is Ben living to atone for what he’s done. That would have been true redemption, and I think the same is true for Anakin too.

Now, as we know, Kylo is much worse than Vader, even though Vader spent literally half his life on the Dark Side, murdered thousands of people, including children, chopped off his son’s hand, tortured his daughter and her future husband. We know this because Kylo killed Han Solo, the fanboys’ favourite. Therefore, he is much worse, despite only having been on the Dark Side for about six years after being mentally manipulated from birth by the most evil man in existence. Don’t get me wrong, I am not apologising for Kylo. I’m aware he did terrible things, hence why Ben should have lived to atone, but I do believe that he gets an unfair level of hatred, largely stemming from killing Han.

As mentioned above, I have occasionally delved into Reylo fics to see what was out there. I’ve always been a supporter of watching their story play out, because enemies to lovers was something new for a Star Wars movie, and it’s a cool idea to explore. We’d previously seen it with Luke and Mara in Legends. (Mara, incidentally, being someone who was redeemed and lived to make up for her bad deeds.) I loved Ben Solo for the short amount of time we got to see him. The interactions between him and Rey over the bond were so cool to watch. Ultimately, though, I don’t feel like their story was particularly well handled in this movie. I buy it because Adam and Daisy were so brilliant, but I can’t help but feel that Ben’s death was a giant cop-out.

I have mixed feelings about Rey facing Palpatine alone. I can see that there’s some kind of strength to her battling alone there. (Except she wasn’t, because she had every Jedi standing metaphorically behind her.) That said, to have Ben out of the fight felt…weird. Since TFA certain people have said that Rey and Ben/Kylo were two halves of one protagonist, which makes me think that he should have been present there instead of tossed into a pit. Also, after the mental mind games that Palpatine has been playing for his entire life, he pretty much deserved to be. But I don’t know. I think I need to watch it again and see how I feel.

This ended up being super long and ranty, sorry. I’ve probably missed a lot. Maybe I’ll change my mind on a few things when I see it again. I thought writing this out might help to organise my thoughts, but I’m not sure it has!

Week-End Update: Rainy Day Blahs

Today was a great day to cuddle up with a pup and take a nap, binge watch TV/movies/the Eagles or a little of both. We wrapped up the week-end with a few adoptions before heading home to snuggle with our own pups & remaining fosters.

It was a good week for some of the bigger dogs as Freckles & Hugh weren’t just adopted, they were adopted together! Bozo was extra happy to get adopted because it gave him the opportunity to choose a new name (he’s now going by Carson). TLC alum Bree decided it was time to get a little brother so her parents obliged by adopting our sweet & adorable dwarf Rottie mix pup, Harley. Also celebrating gotcha days this week were: Daisy, Lynardm Reece, Santana, Steve & Abby’s pup, Victory.

“Mike and I adore our TLC pups and couldn’t imagine life without them. Rooney fka Leo (adopted in December) and Mia fka Jenny (adopted in April) are extremely loving and well mannered. Now that they know neither one of them is going anywhere, they play together nicely and enjoy snuggling together at night.

Mia has definitely come out of her shell and smiles more and more each day and greets us excitedly when we walk in the door. She no longer sleeps alone downstairs at night and follows us up to the bedroom. Mia also loves her walks and is truly happy when she’s outside and lunging after squirrels or bunnies.

Rooney is no longer the tiny pup we first adopted and is still adapting to his bigger body and longer legs. He’s very much a puppy in all but size and is a lovable goofball, full of energy and always trying to give kisses.

“My daughter and I came up with another name for her “Willa” Love her! She is still; so much a pup but so happy and trusting it’s amazing. She plays and gets alone with the other dogs and is picking up on their cues . I have an appointment for my vet next Monday to look her over and get her setup in my system lol with 4 other doggies. I will ask them to check her chip reader and will bring all the docs with me to the appointment. I definitely will give Deb Murray or Jeri call to get some advice on them as a pack as well.

“Maverick is now almost 9 months old. He is an extremely loveable and hyper puppy. He loves to play tug of war and to be chased. He enjoys playing with his puppy friends and going to daycare on occasion is his favorite treat. Maverick also loves long off leash hikes. We are lucky enough to live in an area where this is possible.

“Dakota is doing great! He has grown quite a bit since his “gotcha” day. He now weighs in at 70 pounds and definitely thinks of himself as a lap dog. Dakota enjoys sunbathing, treats, destroying “indestructible” toys, treats, going for walks, cuddling, and more treats. What he loves most though is his big brother Brody. Jerry and I can’t believe how well the two of them get along! “

“I can hardly believe that Hazel Grace was adopted a year ago! She fit in from her very first day. Hazel brought a new spark to our senior pup, Sofie. Now that Sofie’s cancer is progressing, Hazel sticks close to her side. Hazel wants to meet any critter or person she sees on our daily walks whether in our neighborhood or any of the local parks we go to each week. At her first vet visit we were told she might get to 35 pounds. As you can see from a couple of the pics I am sending you, she is actually taller than Sofie (who is about 60 lbs), but is a trim 40 lbs. She learned all her basic commands within her first few months and we now work on more complicated tricks like “dance” and “crawl.” She loves to play fetch, especially with a frisbee!

The entire experience of adding a puppy back in to our home was a great decision. Our teens, especially Bailey (since Kiran is in college) have been able to really see the kind of commitment it takes to raise a healthy, happy and well mannered pup.”

“Kirby is doing well and getting very comfortable with us.

His vet check was good except for testing positive for Lyme disease for which he will be on antibiotics for 28 days.

He is sweet ,smart and very responsive. His only problem is with the leash. He lunges at other dogs etc but we are working on that.

My grandchildren love him and Kirby loves to ride in the car at every opportunity but most enjoys picking the kids up at school. “

Week-End Update: A Beautiful Day For a Festival

We don’t know about you, but after the awesome day we had at Sproutfest today, we are exhausted and know the pups will sleep well tonight! Thanks to everyone who came by to spend some time with the dogs, and alumni who came to catch up! We suspect that some of the pups may well have met their furever families today and are hoping they’ll be starring in next week’s happy tails post but, for now there are a few dogs who are excitedly announcing that they’re off the market.

Bailey was adopted early in the week and, as you can tell from the look on his mom’s face, it was a match made in heaven! Our sweet Susie Q had a bit of a rough go for a while there but she’s come out none the worse for wear and found a great family to star in future chapters of her happy tail. Also adopted this week were: Alvin, Caramello, Chubbs, Davidson, Dixie, Huey, Kipper, Kirby, Rose (now Maya) & Sweetpea!

“Geno and I are doing great. He is with me 24/7. He goes to the office with me every day. Perfectly housetrained. Not an accident or a territory marking yet.

He loves everybody , kids and adults alike. He also likes all dogs. Everybody loves him too. My almost 5 y.o. granddaughter adores him. When I walk him in the park near my office after lunch almost everybody talks to him and pets him. People always comment on his very unusual for a G.S.D. reddish color. I bought a doggie DNA kit to see what he might be mixed with other than GSD.

He is a predator. His main goal in life is to get a squirrel or rabbit, He lunges at them and tries to chase them on our walks. He crouches down and stares at them and tries to stalk them. He also barks and lunges at birds. He bites bees out of the air. He gets them with his teeth and has not been stung yet.

He is still skinny. He weighed 75 lbs when I had him weighed at his vet’s office a couple of weeks ago. He might be a little more now. His vet advised me to feed him puppy food. I give him Eukanuba GSD puppy chow. I always mix some kind of meat with it. He also gets something from me whenever I eat. He is skinny but very strong and otherwise healthy.

I am not sure what his prior owners did to him. He has broken teeth. I assume from biting on a metal crate or on a metal chain. Luckily it does not affect his eating. When I raise my voice to him (rarely) he crouches down and almost crawls on his belly to me for forgiveness. But when I tell him he is a good boy or that I am not mad at him or give him a pat he is so happy.

He loves his walks. When I put on his leash, he literally hops around and “talks” to me until we get outside.

“Wiley Jones aka Joseph is doing really good! The little guy is so sweet and is settling in nicely. He was like Velcro in the beginning but I think he is starting to know this is his permanent home. I discovered he is afraid of squeaky toys so I have a product line of cutting them out and sewing his toys back together. lol. He is a little shy with some strangers we encounter on our walks which is understandable. Each day he gets a bit more confident. And, he is eating really well too. I mixed some steamed peas with his dried kibble and now he seems to be in love with it! He did well with his bath too.

We went to my vet Tuesday night so he is all setup there and they recorded his microchip as well. I got some pet insurance for him too just in case.

I do want to get him some training as he has some manners he needs to improve. We are working on sit and how to walk better on a leash. I will likely reach out to one of the two trainers you suggested.

“Everything is going well with Cassie (formerly Cash). She hasn’t broken through the invisible fence in months. Her “cousin” dogs (my daughters’ dogs) have made her acquaintance and tolerate her insatiable play requests. She is friendly to all and a good dog. Unfortunately, my husband passed away at the end of August so she and I are both adjusting to a new routine.”

“We decided to change his name to Stanley. We are starting to settle in. He was a bit nervous for the first few days. He is still working on letting us know when he needs to go outside to go to the bathroom, and he does not like his crate during the day, but we are adjusting. He seems to be learning his name and learning to sit and walk on a leash already.

We went to the vet yesterday and everything looked great. He got a shot for Lyme, and the vet said he is doing well and to give him a few weeks at least to adjust. So everything is going pretty well!

I think I will contact one of the trainers for a little help with crate training and with his barking at other dogs. He seems fearful of other dogs especially bigger ones, so we would like a little help with that.

“Everything is just perfect, we love Greysyn (previously known as Rocket) so much. He amazes me everyday with how intelligent he is, he is such a sweet dog but he still is very leary of strangers. He truly makes me laugh everyday with the way he throws his toys around and runs around like a nut. He seems very happy and very eager to please. He’s my little snuggle bug! He really helped me with getting through the loss of my beloved Pomeranian and I couldn’t ask for a better fur baby.

““Renee” is settling in great! Her and my current dog Baby are getting along amazingly! While I think Renee is a very pretty name I’ve decided to rename her “Noli” short for Cannoli. Crate training has been going well…though I do feel like a monster putting her in at night and when I leave for work! (She’s getting a little better with it everyday). “

“Thank you for the follow-up email. Yes, I have change her name to Kali. She is still getting used to it, but she will get it in time. I have a vet appointment set for tomorrow afternoon. We verified the microchip info while I was at the center – it was wrong the first time, but is correct now. I will look into the training, but Kali is really well behaved and may not need much. I think since she is 3 it makes a difference or she just is a good sweet girl! She is good with the house and made herself right at home! Taking over my bed and pillows!!! Still getting her used to the neighborhood. She doesn’t like cars or trucks and living in a town, we have a lot, but she will get used to this also. But she seems to love her enclosed backyard!”

“I just wanted to update you on my adoption of “Gracie”. We got past the beginning car sickness and tapeworm and she is doing quite well. I couldn’t be happier with her and I think she loves me (I love her, too) and is very affectionate to my husband & family members, as well. She is SO AFFECTIONATE! We take long walks every day and she gets plenty of attention and treats. Thank you for all you and your rescue do. If you all did not save these dogs, they would never get a loving life – or any life at all! I cannot imagine this dog being put down – she is so loving and always wagging her tail! “Hi! Vincent is settling in quite nicely! We’re keeping his name, but i think he responds to Vini so that will be what we use. He went to the vet Monday and tested positive for giardia so he started medicine for that today. Week-End Update: Enchanted April

Now that the stress of tax-season is out of the way (except for you folks who filed an extension), it’s time for most of us to relax and start to enjoy Spring. We spent our week-end at the new(ish) Pet Valu in Exton and met a lot of really nice people who came out to celebrate adoption week-end with us.

This week, two of the sweetest girls in the world found their perfect families: Shelley made an instant connection with her family and plans to change her name to Shelli, and Jenny made a love match with TLC alumn Rooney FKA Leo. They weren’t the only lucky ducks dogs though as Ashley, Blossom (now Daisy), Carolina (now Kara), Cash, Chanel, Dior, Ivy, Sage (now Quinn) & Sammy found their furever families too!

“Hi. Enclosed is a picture of Gizmo just hanging out. Rutgers, our beagle, is also on the sofa too. He is doing well. This afternoon he goes to the Vet for his yearly shots. He is a ray of sunshine.”

“We did give Snookie a new name. Her name is Julie. She is a real jewel. I took her to the vet on Tuesday, 4/11. She had an upset stomach which the vet feels was from all the changes she experienced. Everything else seemed OK. We are getting a DNA test done on her. I can’t wait to see what breeds she is. She is making herself right at home. Our dog, Dexter and her have been getting along pretty good. I think they will end up being pals. We all love her! She is a great addition to our family.”

Charli FKA Wayla (Winnie’s pup)

“So, I probably don’t even have to tell you.. you can see it in the pictures… that we loveeeee Charli, aka Wayla. She is great with other dogs no matter how big they are. My best friend has a bear of a dog and Charli went right between his legs and came out the other side. There is a picture included of this interaction. She is great with kids and all of my daughters friends love her as much as we do. You all asked us to send pictures of her so I have included a bunch. Thanks for doing what you do and creating such happiness for us as a family. She is the perfect addition. You should also be able to tell that she has made herself at home and is very comfortable. The picture of her in my lap is how she greets me every night when I get home from working all day as a nurse in the ICU. Therefore this is the best for me. I have been trying to use the app when walking her as much as I think of it. She is scheduled to start puppy training on 4/30. She up to 28 lbs and has received all good reports from the vet. The foster family who had her did a great job with her and made the transition easier for us. We are trying to teach her to fetch so that she will play ball with us but she likes to take the ball all to herself. Its a work in progress. I will try to send pictures every once in awhile. I just wanted to thank you for doing what you do. Your work has certainly created much joy for us.”

“Everything is great. Skyler (we renamed Marley) has been a great pup. She loves her puppy brother Walter (in attached). She is about 30lbs right now and the vet thinks she might be done growing. She has not been spayed yet, as the vet recommended they go through a heat cycle first, she will be spayed as soon as that happens.Do you have any info/or pics of her litter mates? I’m just curious how they have aged. Thanks! “

“Tito, formerly Thor, is very happy in his new home! We can’t believe how well behaved and sweet he is. He almost never barks, sleeps soundly in his crate and has had zero accidents in our house. He is so loving and easy going. We keep saying how he is such a good dog and we are so lucky to have found him. He’s gotten lots of exercise and play because it’s been so nice out and he’s been loving it. His first vet appt is the first week of May. He had his first bath last night and did great. Thanks again so much for everything. I will keep you guys updated with how well he is doing”

“We did change Grady’s name to Eve! She is doing great and loving her new forever home!

Braxton

“Hi TLC. We adopted Braxton last September and he is doing great! He is just a bit sleepy bc he was playing/running with our other rescue Dory Coco (black lab) all day! This is how they sleep! They are total buds!!!

Braxton is almost a year old, is 45 pounds and is a super fast runner. He is so sweet and loves belly rubs in the morning! He is a licker as well. We just love him!”
