Fanfiction reader ask meme - 1, 13, 16?

1. What was the first fandom/ship you read fic for? How did you come to it?

In childhood my friends wrote stories based on animated movies/series like Princess Sissi (1997), Lion King, Pinky and the Brain, The Silver Brumby (Australian series), Pokemon, He-Man etc. They also wrote about Power Rangers and Tales from the crypt. Does it count? ;) If yes, then Lion King (and ship Simba/Nala and BrOTPs Simba & Kovu, Timon & Pumbaa) was the first. If it's going about more err... advanced fanfiction (or online archives) then hm... I think it was Tolkien's lore (or Harry Potter maybe) - I don't remember the first ships... I always liked Faramir/Éowyn but it could be Aragorn/Arwen (it was very very popular). From HP... Draco/Hermione. How did I come to it? I just... I was a HP fan maaaaany years ago and I always saw Hermione & Draco as endgame and one day my best friend just showed me some stories on blogs. And I was a tolkienoholic (childhood - 2018?) so I just had to find everything related to (forums, blogs and finally ff archives) ;) If I remember correctly, fanfiction.net (or Polish Mirriel Forum?) was my first contact with Tolkien fanfics.

13. Live/open/continuing canons or completed canons?

Well, as a reader I don't really focus on it. I just... read. Read what I like or what I find. So sometimes it's a story based on completed canon like Narnia, Arda, MCU (it's a completed 2008-2014 universe, okay? ;D) and so on and sometimes it's something written to open canons like Rowling's magical world, some tv series (I read fanfics when many crime series were still aired and continued) or animated movies like Shrek that can be probably continued (oh please, give us Shrek 5! 🙏). I mean, I can read almost everything and enjoy many fanfics (canon compliant, AUs, fix-its, what-ifs, comedies etc.) - it just depends on fandom. Sometimes I'm glad that canon is completed (and I have my whole point of view) and fanfics can be based on full worldbuilding (like Tolkien, Lion King, ER, X-Files, MCU), sometimes I'm happy that canon is still not ended and I can live-read fans' ideas and later compare them to the original plots and live-check what I like more: canon or fanon. Maybe in general I prefer completed things (because I don't like to wait or worry that the next season or book or movie part will be shitty or something like that xD) and mostly I look for my fav fandoms (which are now all completed, mostly in a best way - so here I love canon compliant fics, only Hawaii Five-O is poor *sob* - so here I wanna read AUs and fix-its!) but as I said - it depends (on fandom or my mood). Of course when I read ff to fandom that I don't know (yeah, I love blind-reading 😍) or truly don't care much about it, then I'm totally "whatever" (mean: all would be fine) ;D

16. Have you ever come to canon via fic?

Yes! Many many times! (as I mentioned: I love blind-reading). So thanks to my writing sunshines I watched f.e. Merlin BBC (Gizmo ;*), X-Men movies with McAvoy and Fassbender (Snylilith ;*), Witcher - only Polish TV series and I read short stories but it counts ;) (you, dear Rudbekia, Filigranka, The Dragon Hunter... - ;*), Star Wars OT & PT and some fan videos (Jamie Costa rules!) and tv series (Filigranka, Merryloon, Andromeda Mirtle, Elissa, Hazel Alice and all SW girls from Mirriel - ;*), Inception (SzmaragDrac ;*), Narnia movies (J.J. ;*), Banana Fish (Vicarious ;*), DC movies (Pantera ;*), Miss Saigon (Die Otter ;*), Brave (Marchew ;*). I read The Vampyre by Polidori (Abelarda Gildenman ;*). I learnt about Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell and even wrote one fic (without reading book/watching tv series 🤭) thanks to Abelarda Gildenman, Tina Latawiec and other girls ;* I watched few episodes of Torchwood and read about Doctor Who thanks to Ginny ;* I learnt about Mass Effect and Garrus Vakarian thanks to Naamah_Beherit ;* And about Supernatural thanks to SzmaragDrac and Die Otter ;* Huh, I swear, there is more and more and more!
