eras of tumblr i could give hour-long Ted Talks about
(only including eras i participated in, not what i’ve lived through second-handedly. these are what i personally remember seeing on my dash, i’m sure there’s plenty i missed. This is an ongoing list/not fixed/subject to future edits.)
2015 gravity falls
the rise of sexyman bill cipher
depravity falls and putting 12 yr old characters in violent guro situations
alex hirsch worship
billdip discourse
the diehard thirst for Gruncle Ford
“i want to fuck that dorito”
2015/16 Black Butler
SebaCiel discourse
Grelle discourse (like, i don’t even know how to elaborate, but if you were there you would remember how people were fighting over her characterization in all different directions. Which is funny because, love her or hate her, she is barely even in the show lol)
The needlessly intense sjw vs anti-sjw/ fiction doesn’t effect reality/ shipping fighting
can’t quantify this, but i swear 80% of the fans were ex-hetalia fans
Black butler 2 being either loved or hated, while book of circus was almost unanimously loved
the Scott Freeman incident...
no one giving a fuck about the female characters
Yana/Jay Michael Tatum worship
2016 Undertale
Sans undertale sexyman rise
the most raw video game soundtrack of all time
papyton
no one agrees how to draw undyne, but we all agree that she’s gay as fuck
(This is a personal anecdote, but i actually made a friend in highschool bc i drew undertale fanart on the board at latin class nd she added to it the next day, i added to it the next day and eventually we met up and it was so adorable)
“get dunked on”
2016-17 hamilton, heathers, great comet, dear evan hansen, be more chill musical theater insanity
rip tumblr user galactibun
The Hamilton craze breathing new life into the 1776 musical fandom
Most bizarre fanfic aus seen on tumblr thus far (hamilton)
The great comet Tony snubs
BMC and DEH blowing up, despite most fans only caring about the characters, totally ignoring the plot.
“Miku binder Thomas Jefferson”
No one giving a fuck about “The Hamilton Mixtape”
Gatekeeping fans who didn’t read war and peace or the ron chernow biography (i don’t think anyone ever gave a shit about the BMC orginal book which is SO FUNNY)
lin manuel miranda worship
real people fanfictions of actors/shipping them (especially hamilton!)
Key Figures include: Lin Manuel Miranda, Ron Chernow, Philipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Ben Platt, George Salazar, Barette Wilbert Weed, and Mike Faist
2016-2017 the yuri on ice, killing stalking, kaikyu yaoi trifecta
Yaoi take over
The anime fans collective salt over YOI winning anime of the year 2016
Not in this time period, but the Killing Stalking fans despising the ending en mass several years later.
Free! was also huge as the second season concluded not long before, but wasn’t receiving new updated in Realtime like the other three.
honestly? i mostly just remember people drawing some of the most beautiful fan art of the characters and not bothering to follow the plots
2015-2016 steven universe discourse peak craziness
There are no words, looking back this all feels like a fever dream
Insane fan-theories (as in- even for Tumblr, these theories were very out there)
Pink diamond character derailment
“watching steven universe is the opposite of eating pussy”
Gemosonas
fusion = sex???
“it’s over isn’t it” single-handedly inspiring some of the most beautiful fan art to come out of the show; "Stronger than you” def inspired much more fan-creations, but they were nowhere near as good imo
That terrible lily peet video that sent a tidal wave of fandom-fighting
Concrete
Nicki Minaj guest appearance
the porn avalanche predating the 2018 nsfw ban
My OG account got banned >:( (i never posted porn, tried to email support to no avail, I DID NOT DEVERVE THIS YOU NARCS)
50-50 mix of people posting lewd art and people posting links to find them as they migrated to twitter
“Female presenting nipples”
The return of the citrus scale (orange: PG/G, Lime: PG-13, Lemon: R, Grapefruit: X)
“Too Spicy for Tumblr”
Didn’t even stop the porn bots, mostly just screwed over artists and writers
IMO the peak of user v staff animosity
2020 hannibal
The small but loyal anthony hopkins defenders
Some of the most beautiful creative gore art
The moodboard to web-weaving pipeline
People being surprisingly respectful of fans who only watched the show, or who didn’t read Red Dragon/Silence of the Lambs, or where otherwise not invested in the greater overall Hannibal canon.
Manipulate, mansplain, malewife
Key Figures Include: Madds Mikkelson, Hugh Dancy, Anthony Hopkins
november 5, 2020
You just had to be there man, i don’t know what to tell you.
Key Figures include: Donald Trump, Castiel, Dean Winchester, Joe Biden, Vladimir Putin, Nevada, Georgia, Wisconsin and debatably Sherlock season 5
the 2021 coquette girl blogger era
Lana del rey worship
The ungodly amount of softcore porn
Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss
Glorification of eating disorders, benzos, trailer parks, predatory men, age gap relationships, and so much more!
Teenagers blogging about Russian lit you know they never read
Waifblr
Still not sure to this day how much of this was ironic and how much wasn’t?? Or if any of this was self-aware???
Yes babe you’re so bambi, kate moss, diet coke, wellbutrin, dasha nekrosova, ballet, klonopin, trad cath, fawn, dior, sofia coppela, can you please shut the fuck up now?
key figures include: Lana del Rey, Daisy Randone, Dasha Nekrosova, Nina Sayers, Fiona Apple, Anya Taylor Joy, Sylvia Plath, Kate Moss, Kirsten Dunst (probably so many more, but this is just off the top of my head)
(bonus)
2015/16- My personal earliest memories of really getting into tumblr, and witnessing the tail-end of the Hetalia reign
2016- the end of Homestuck
2016- the epidemic of overwatch porn
2016- Does Jumin Han is gay?
2017- RWBY’s nosedive in quality from season 3 to 4, losing the majority of the fanbase
2018 Boyfriend to Death civil war (Gatobob v ElectricPuke)
2018- Detroit become Human drops and the robot-fucking gatekeeping
2018- the Game of thrones/Endgame joint disaster ending melt down
2019- Sub-par Omens
2020- the Dead by Daylight community rioting when Pyramid Head’s ass got nerfed
2020- Cyberpunk 2077 is released and is torn apart almost instantly. Looking back by my approximations post were made up of- 10% people who were actually playing the games and enjoying themselves, 20% people who were playing the game and WEREN’T having fun, 55% People who never bought/played the game who were making up crazy glitches for clout, 15% hardcore pornography of characters you’d never seen before. (I’m quite salty about this bc I worked at GameStop at this time and had people constantly talking about glitches in casual conversation and I just know most of these bitches were LYING.)
20??- don’t remember the exact dates, but phase 3 marvel was un-escapable at this time
2020/21- Succession blows up
2022 Ghost bc blows up on tiktok, the fandom already sizable on tumblr only goes up from here

it's still so weird to me that kristen schaal voiced louise on bob's burgers and mabel on gravity falls simultaneously. like they feel like two different eras of television for some reason but bob's burgers started airing before gravity falls and continued airing new episodes long after it was finished (and still does obvs)
maybe it's because there was almost no crossover between the two fandoms and audiences. do you think gravity falls fans crossed over into the bob's burgers fandom in 2015-2016 bcuz of how popular gravity falls was and that's why theres a weird amount of bb fanart from that era??
like her being at comic con for voicing mabel and louise two HUGE cultural influences at the same time is so crazy!!!
speaking as someone who was a fan of gravity falls during its peak and didn't get into bobs burgers until years later, I definitely didnt make the connection and I don't think anyone else in my general corner of the internet did either. but damn if kristen schaal can't voice a weird little girl in a cartoon

do you have thor reading recs/guides/particular run or era to recommmend to get to know and appreciate the characters?
OOOH YES THANK YOU FOR ASKING
some thor fans and loki fans may disagree with what im gonna say here BUT. i think the run which best encapsulates why i love the character and the universe, as well as having essentially a very long guided tour through some of the most significant points of the thor sub-universe within the larger MU, is jason aaron's huge thor run from 2012 to 2019 (along with everything else happening in the thor universe at that time, covered by al ewing, kieron gillen, and marguerite bennett in a few also very good spinoffs).
this is the series where the God Butcher comes from, where Jane Foster becomes Thor, where loki is canon genderfluid in Agent of Asgard, where thor fights capitalism, and much more. it's not perfect, especially in terms of characterisation when some characters get thrown between their own miniseries and the main run, but it really encapsulates what I love about thor in his comics, and it's the run that, over the course of collecting the five huge paperback collections u can get it in, made me fall in love with this sub-section of the MU
proper reading order under the cut, plus brief explanations of crossover tie-ins and so on. it looks complicated but it's basically just cos marvel loves to re-start with a new #1 every so often to keep sales up, and because i think you should read the accompanying spinoffs. if you don't want to read the excess spinoffs (although agent of asgard is VERY good) just stick to things with 'thor' in the name.
Thor: God of Thunder (2012) #1-17
Loki: Agent of Asgard (2014) #1-5
Thor: God of Thunder (2012) #18-24
then the Original Sin event happens, the Watcher dies and a bunch of secrets are revealed...
Original Sin (2014) #5.1-5.5 (essentially a loki & thor miniseries tie-in, relevant to both series)
and THEN when Original Sin continues, Nick Fury (evil now, don't ask) whispers something into Thor's ear, and Thor drops his hammer on the moon and cannot pick it up! oh no.
Thor: God of Thunder (2012) #25
because the marvel universe never stops having big events, an event called AXIS happens immediately after, and results in a bunch of 'heroes' and 'villains' being 'inverted' - the 'villains' becomes 'heroes' and vice versa. both thor and loki are involved in this, covered in:
Loki: Agent of Asgard (2014) #6-11
and if you're wondering what happened to Angela after that Original Sin tie-in:
Angela: Asgard's Assassin #1-6
Thor (2014) #1-8 and Annual #1
THEN Secret Wars happens, basically 8 month timeskip and the multiverse is ending and another earth is about to crash into the main earth. don't worry about it.
Loki: Agent of Asgard (2014) #12-17
Secret Wars continues, the multiverse died and a new 'Battleworld' is created. basically it's a patchwork of all previous universes held together by Doctor Doom (don't worry about it). Marvel cancelled every single book and everything to turned into battleworld tie-ins:
Thors (2015) #1-4
1602 Witch Hunter Angela (2015) #1-4
... and then everything goes back to normal.
Mighty Thor (2015) #1-6
Angela: Queen of Hel (2015) #1-7
Mighty Thor (2015) #7-14
Unworthy Thor (2016) #1-5
Mighty Thor (2015) #15-22
Generations: Unworthhy Thor & Mighty Thor #1
Mighty Thor (2015) #23, #700-706 (they reverted to legacy numbering, don't worry, you didn't miss 677 issues of the series)
Mighty Thor: At the Gates of Valhalla #1
Thor (2018) #1-11
and then The War of the Realms begins, the big thor-centric crossover which ends the run. the issues of that main series and the concurrent thor series should be read in release order which looks like this:
War of the Realms #1
War of the Realms #2
Thor #12
War of the Realms #3
War of the Realms #4
Thor #13
War of the Realms #5
War of the Realms #6
Thor #14-16
and a concluding epilogue miniseries:
King Thor (2019) #1-4

whats the tea on kd leaving the warriors? i was a casual fan at the time it happened so i don't know the situation
well... let me be brief (1/278)
lmao jk but.... well a lot! and most of it is speculation, etcetc ofc we'll never truly know until 20 years later when the last dance-esque documentary comes out about the warriors in the steph curry era lmao-- but the story goes like this:
kevin durant was the superstar of okc thunder and was steadily building up the franchise over the years to become serious contenders for a championship. they were always close, but had never quite made it. but with a good FO/org behind him, westbrook by his side, they were always really close— but again, as we all know, it was never enough (made the finals in 2012. lost. would make the playoffs but always got defeated). in 2016, they once again get really close at the western conference finals where they led the series 3-1 against the warriors. despite that they lose. a mere month later, he joins the warriors: a team that's obviously at the beginning of a dynasty— they won a championship in 2015 and made it into the finals in 2016. but more importantly, the team that beat kevin durant and okc thunder at the conference finals.
there were layers to this "betrayal" and to this day people still think this one decision "ruined the sport" (lol). people saw it as a betrayal on KD's part and it took an incredible hit to his reputation. you almost make it to the finals, you have an incredible teammate in westbrook by your side, an org that supports you and is willing to uplift you to your highest star potential, and you leave? to join the team that BEAT you? to the team that has steph curry, klay thompson, draymond green, andre iguodala?
already a hugely successful team without KD, but with him, it was undeniable. a superteam. yeah, a lot of team has duos or trios. lebron and kyrie, lebron and dwade, harden and cp3, etcetc. but this team was different levels. a whole team full. the team was 73-9 without KD. massively talented already. but now? steph, KD, klay as offensive threats. draymond and andre as defensive threats. insanely good roleplayers like shaun livingston.
everyone was livid. not just OKC fans. everyone in the league! the warriors, and KD's name specifically was tarnished. how disrespectful for the warriors to even think about creating a team like this. how disrespectful for KD to leave an org that's done so much for him. sports media was tearing into them, fans were tearing into them, they were quite literally, the most hated north american sports team. fans were burning jerseys, making videos threatening KD, etc.
we all know how KD with the warriors went. winning fixes all, right? arguably the most dominant team in nba history (2017 warriors vs 1996 bulls a common debate to this day), the warriors absolutely dominated the nba, and went on to win the 2017 and 2018 championships. KD finally gets his two rings and a FMVP. and the warriors still stay the most hated team in the league. you either loved the warriors or hated them! no in between. the narrative is that KD's rings were called into question because he "had a superteam" so they weren't "valid".
2018-2019 is when it all kinda starts falling apart. the warriors are plagued with injuries, and it's just clear they don't have the synergy and chemistry that they did before. it was most clear during a game against the clippers where draymond and kd visibly fought after a bad play at the end where draymond refused to pass to kd. draymond had allegedly yelled at kd and told him to just leave the warriors, and that they didn't need him (kd's contract was up that year as well). KD has said in later years that that argument was kind of like the ~last straw for him and the nail in the coffin for him leaving. he had already been having feelings of being "the odd man out"— though they were winning together and had good synergy on court, the core3 plus the other players were already a tight knit family long before he had arrived. after the incident with draymond, the team never really sat down and talked about it: just brushed it under the rug (dray was suspended for one game but nothing was talked about). KD felt like it was a slap in the face, all this stuff about how gsw is known for good team chemistry and good culture but they just wanted to brush that very public incident under the rug? after that he started playing more selfishly— less like how they would play as a team and more in isolation. KD gets injured during the finals, and as we know, klay gets injured as well: we lose the finals. we don't get the sought after three-peat. KD signs with the brooklyn nets and the rest is history.
i talked a lot about the beginning of KD signing on to the warriors because i feel like that was really the root of why he left. he became one of the most hated players in north american sports. his own fans tore into him. sports media all tore into him. calling him mentally weak, pathetic, etc. and does winning fix all? i feel like KD with the warriors was proof that... it doesn't. KD gets two rings that he basically sold his soul to the devil for AND two FMVPs and people still don't respect him. on top of that he wins it with the warriors: which has always been and will always be Steph Curry's Team. yeah he was integral to those wins, but you can't compete with how steph has built the dynasty, yk? what steph has given to the warriors.
so at the end of the day, the story goes like this: KD "betrays" okc by going to the team who beat him in the conference finals, creates the first real "superteam" in the nba (the superteam discourse is a whole other thing smh like teams aren't trying to do that now but i digress). the whole sports world is going in on him, he's basically sold his soul for these rings. he gets his rings, he gets his FMVP. but his legacy and reputation is still called into question: he's integral but still won his rings and his FMVPs on STEPH CURRYs team, not his. Steph's. on top of all the outside noise, internally he's not happy either. he doesn't feel protected within the team. he has beef with draymond, and steph/klay + the franchise will clearly always have their loyalty to draymond. he doesn't buy into the team culture anymore, and he feels like the odd one out. the only thing that could make him stay would be to keep winning more rings. but the two rings he has didn't fix anything. so why stay? what does he have going for him?
(he goes on to bounce between different teams, tries to build his own superteams but never comes as close as he did. meanwhile steph klay and draymond go through a tough two years, considerably the lowest two years in the steph/core3 era, and come out on top: they win the '22 finals, against a celtics team that had an 84% chance of winning the finals. they save their dynasty, their legacy. steph proves that he won a chip BEFORE KD, during KD, and AFTER KD as well.)

To your tags on your last post what do you think changed in Jack? I mean I noticed it as well but what do you think made him lose his spark and what do you think is the reason he’s got it back?
In this essay!!! 2015 is a dichotomy of career highs and personal stagnation. And Jack was absolutely showing lonely little depression hints he didn’t realize yet. Career-wise, ATL was peaking. Biggest shows they ever played, technically a #1 album, fucking crushing it after the rollercoaster of the previous 4 years and after they had kinda accepted what their existence might be. Meanwhile the besties are moving into next phases of life - Alex is engaged, Rian is steady, Grieco and whoever else it was that lived in that last Baltimore place with him (Steve? Dan?) were moving in with serious girlfriends. Not for nothing, we also enter MeToo and a necessary culture shift which obviously isn’t super welcoming of ATL and especially Jack’s raunchy brand. The boy is becoming a little lost and decides to run away and move to LA full time. But for much of 2016 he’s looking for anyone with a similar schedule to hang out with and being a little sweetly pathetic and a little annoying. He is searching for distraction. Everyone and everything is kind of changing but he’s not and it’s kinda lonely.
I’m always going to wonder if dating Andie wasn’t partially him doing something he felt like he should - proving he could grow up and be relationship guy too. Maybe he really did just see something different in her, we’ll never know. But mid-2016 he also seemed to be falling into different circles and partying harder. Wonderful atmosphere to be in when you’re doubting who you are.
Move into LYR era which has a such a different vibe. The mood is subdued, a semi-somber semi-mature aesthetic and it almost makes sense that Jack is different, it fits the scene imo. He very obviously no longer wants to be the caricature of everything he created but he doesn’t seem to know what else to do and boy is he struggling. I think he had a hard time sorting out him vs the persona vs pleasing fans. The Andie breakup was a boiling point that had been building and the spiral was ugly.
But he finally started going to therapy and that was huge. I feel like pandemic giving him a chance to not feel like he needed to be out and big and social all the time was really good for him too, and helped him accept that you can just sit some out and exist quietly. Somewhere over the last 2 years he worked through some some shit and seems healthy. And crazy enough, I now wonder if he understands he’s going through one of the worst things he’s ever going to and is okay. Not unscathed, but fine. That’s a real projection tho because I also think him being a little dim/immature protects him from the same introspective spirals as say, Alex. But I’m so happy he’s good.

Hello! I’m back again, I hope you’re doing well! I don’t visit Tumblr much.
I agree with the hourglass bit, it reminds me of that video someone made of an hour long version of the sigh. 😂
I’m not familiar with all the live sets. I do love to watch T in the Park 2016, Lolla 2017, and of course Reading 2021. I’m not the biggest fan of guys with longer hair but honestly, Van’s rocked every hairstyle he’s had (and I’m counting the coconut head era lol). What are your faves?
Also I just listened to that video of Lou and Bondy introducing their new song and omg! He sounds entirely different, his voice is soo much lighter. I reckon it’s from cleansing the toxicity that he’s mentioned in the past. I love knife-edge, asleep at the feels doesn’t quite resonate with me but that’s okay! I’m so glad that he’s back to putting out music he’s proud of and enjoying the process again! - 😅 anon
Hello 😅 anon, I’m really good thank you, I hope you’re doing well! Yeah it’s pretty quiet around here these days.
Omg don’t remind me of that Hourglass video 😅
T in the Park 2016 and Lolla 2017 are two of my faves to watch too, I don’t watch Reading 2021 as much now as I tend to notice the tension between the boys too much and it takes away from me enjoying the set. I love Van’s long hair though I think he looks amazing with it 🥰
A particular fave of mine to watch is TRNSMT 2019 as I think they were at their peak here. I also adore watching Glasto 2015 as it was one of their first big sets and you can tell how much they’re loving it. They have so much energy! Lolla Chicago 2018 is amazing too. Tbh I love them all ha ha. I have a post with links to all their sets if you’ve not seen them as not all of them are on YouTube. I’ll link it below…
Yes I think you’re right about Bondy, I’ve been trying to put my finger on why he sounds different. Aww I hope he’s really happy doing his own thing now. I’m loving his new sound and Asleep at the Feels has grown on me hugely now and it’s my fave personally. Really looking forward to see what they put out next.

Where is Taylor Swift heading?
I need to talk about what the hell I think is happening in Taylor Swift's head right now. Complete speculation by the way. Obviously.
Personally, as a Taylor fan, I feel like her career leading up until and during 1989 was a solid natural progression. After she lost Album of The Year for Red, it seemed that she set her sights on making an album that was “sonically cohesive” and full of hits. She was really reaching for a grammy at this time and she did get one, so good on her. If you are a fan of Taylor then you will know that she loves an award, she lives for validation (as most celebrities do), and she likes to know that people give her music the critical acclaim that it deserves. This has served as some frustration to fans because they believe that when Swift doesn’t get any prestigious award nominations for a record, she completely disregards the album and labels it as a failure. Maybe she does focus too much on the grammys, but she is a singer at the end of the day, and they all do.
However, after 2016 and the cancellation of Taylor Swift, or “Snakegate,” as it was called,  she seemed to veer off course. Maybe she wanted to be out of the spotlight, as she was all over the internet during the 1989 era, but it appeared she wasn’t after the same goals as she was in 2015. The album's reputation and lover, whilst being great albums, didn’t hit in the same way that 1989 did. This may be because 1989 was a cultural moment, it was her first full pop album and it completely transferred her from a country music sweetheart to a pop icon. I wasn’t sure if Taylor would ever be able to recreate 1989 because it was a huge shift in genre for her and resulted in so much more immediate fame and attention.
After rep and lover she entered into a different style of music for two albums, folklore and evermore, winning Album of The Year for folklore. Personally, I believe that fans enjoyed this new genre of music but welcomed the return of her autobiographical writing style in Midnights. I feel like for a while she was basically floating. She didn’t have as much direction in her life, and she was pretty much writing about how much she loved her (then) boyfriend. However, when Midnights came out and Taylor started The Eras tour, I felt like we were returning to 2014/15.
This will be the biggest tour, so far, in her career and is going to turn her a pretty hefty profit. She is selling out stadiums all over the world night after night and she is also currently putting out re-recordings of her old songs after they got sold out from under her. Taylor Swift is on a hot streak and is everywhere in the media right now.
Hmmm, remind anyone of anything?
These developments beg the question: Is Taylor Swift on a quest for world domination? She tried it once before but unfortunately stumbled when she was so close to the top, but now I can sense that she is climbing back up that hill. I mean, she is already one of the most famous artists in the world, that’s not the problem. It just seems that Taylor wants to constantly top herself, which must be difficult to do. So this leads me to believe that the real problem is not that she isn’t as famous as she was in the 1989 era, because she is definitely more well known now than she was back then. It is instead the fact that she has been reaching for the success and timelessness of the 1989 record ever since she put it out and she hasn’t quite gotten there yet.
However, with her recent breakup and massive tour she shows no indication of stopping for a rest on her way up the mountain. She currently has no distractions and is seeming to be very career driven, yet again another reminder of the 1989 era.
I am excited for what Taylor is going to pull out of her bag of tricks and I fully believe that with her current mindset and where she is placed in the public eye, she can and will achieve a level of success that will stretch higher than the 1989 era, and probably higher than any other artist has ever done.

on august 21st, 2014, i was a 12-year-old in 7th grade who was just finding out about the hidden block/normalboots collective of game reviewers.
on august 21st, 2014, i found caddicarus - who would have a huge impact on my life for the next 4 years.
during those 4 years i had many fandom shenanigans. made some great memories, made some not-so-great memories.
i remember when he was an android fanboy. i remember when he didn't like pizza. i remember when his voice was higher and when he had the buzzcut. the stock grungy background and aesthetic. the frosty cooltext generated logo. that iconic gong noise at the beginning of the intro. when the intro didn't even have music at all - do fans these days even remember that the intro was once a heavenly chant with no music?
"🎵ay ay ay ay ay, ay ay ay ay, subscribe...🎵"
"that's how we do it in my garden!"
"CYOAR!"
i remember rushing home one day in march 2015 to watch him on PBG's minecraft hardcore. i remember when he first got his tattoos. i remember how the audience was divided over his mohawk.
many sunday afternoons were spent waiting for the new video to come out. being the young devoted fan i was, i started drinking pepsi after he said he preferred it over coke. i called it "the official drink of the beautiful people".
i remember in 2016 when he got rid of all those extra shows and made the caddicarus show weekly. and i remember when the sub count slowed around the same time. but we as the fanbase made do with what we had.
i left in late 2018 around the time he hit 600,000 subs. i left to pursue other fandom endeavors - long story short, i moved onward. 😉
in the 4 years since i've left, caddy pretty much addressed every criticism people had with his videos and he's been thriving more than he ever has. and even though his videos are no longer for me personally, i still respect him with every fiber of my being.
now, it's august 22nd, 2022. i'm 20 years old. i haven't watched a caddicarus video in god knows how long. when i think of caddicarus, the color blue still comes to mind. that shows you right there.
yet, as i sat silently in the college library, on the first day of junior year, i held my hands on my heart and teared up as i saw caddy do the same and then lie down on his side as he saw the long-awaited number show up on his screen.
i took a big sip of the pepsi sitting next to me. and even after i found out that he hates the US version of pepsi, i still drank it with pride. because it shows that the impact he and his videos made on me is still visible to this day. and also because...pepsi really is better than coke.
i am aware of what caddy thinks of the pre-2020 era. i recognize that he wasn't exactly making the videos he wanted to make and that he regrets them now. but we wouldn't be where we are today if they never existed. they still made an impact.
i remember when we never thought he'd hit 1 million subs. i remember checking socialblade and the prediction for the 1 million sub milestone was...actually pretty accurate. it projected he'd reach 1 million when i was in the middle of college. but at the time, it was still 6 years away. which is a long time in internet years.
but he's so resilient. that's 10 years of blood, sweat, and tears poured into the channel. and within those videos - no matter what he thinks of them now - are the childhood/teenhood memories of many, many people. nerdy and geeky kids who found a part of youtube that understood their nerdy and geeky interests. kids who finally felt validated after finding other people who enjoyed the same videos. kids who then had internet friends to talk about their interests with. kids who finally found their voice...and began to make videos of their own.
thank you so much jim. thank you for all you've done. you have given me and now a million other people so much happiness and joy. i hope you continue to thrive and inspire millions of people. stay beautiful. 💜💙💜

Im sorry if u answered this already but when did u become an army? what year/era/album? - ☕️
Hi!! Don't worry love❤️❤️❤️
I got into kpop in early 2015, a huge year for the industry jajsjsh
Funnily enough, BTS didn't catch my attention at first since I am mainly a GG stan. It wasn't until they released I need you that I found out about them.
I became a fan first because I was fortunate enough as to witness HYYH era, a life changing moment truly. And second because I started consuming their non musical content such as run bts, which they had just started airing. They were so funny and genuine!
You know, my bias is Jimin, but at the start it was Yoongi 😎 he remained my main bias until late 2016 I think.
Would love to know you all got into bts as well!!!!!
❤️

tell us more about what you thought about the doc👀
oh god it was a lot, imma tag this as aotv spoilers for any of u who don’t wanna see anything.
It was really good, there was more in there than I thought there would be? The first 10-15 mins were about 1d/the last xf performance and my god . It’s nothing we didn’t know really, but seeing it thru footage is sm worse 😭 also I haven’t watched those performances since 2015-2016 and they put the history performance up there 😐. Literally every second for that first bit I was sinking further and further into my seat and i’m not gonna name names but enemies were made (by me). There were some really sad parts about his mum and his sister, but mostly just talking about his bond with them, especially with johannah, they really spun it into a positive which was lovely. After that tho it was just very wholesome seeing his entire journey with everything slowing kicking off for him between albums/tour etc. The parts about freddie made me BAWL my eyes out, he loves his kid soo much, like idk what those people are seeing but they’re fucking stupid. Also freddie vlogger era started early. And then there was a cringe part to it where they were promoting mental illness, ie them interviewing his stans camping out for days on end and seeing him on every continent and complaining about how tired they are…like who asked u. A big part of it was like how his fans supporting him makes him feel more confident which is great obvs but we’re just skimming over what is in fact a huge issue but hey ho we can’t have it all. All in all though, a good doc and I would recommend watching.

I think a very revealing line in The Force Awakens is Han Solo’s first line, when he enters the Millennium Falcon: “Chewy, we’re home.”
That’s the thing with these types of movies, what I’ll call “legacy franchises” – the new Halloween movies are guilty of this, same with Ghostbusters Afterlife – the original source material and the cultural impact and the fandom around them have proxies in the universe of the movie. Within the new Star Wars universe, Han Solo is a legend, and the Millennium Falcon is a legend, and Luke Skywalker is a legend, and all these characters have heard of them and are fans of them and they’re so important in their legacy. It’s just become Star Wars about Star Wars. Ghostbusters about Ghostbusters. Who the fuck wants that? We’re watching a movie about how much we liked the previous movie. What the fuck is that? I know I liked the previous movie! I could just watch the previous movie! It’s really irritating and it’s really sad because I’m not strictly anti-nostalgia. It’s nice to go back and revisit the things you love, and the distance between you now and you then, it’s all good. But this is wallowing and refusing to do anything else. And it’s this reverence for these key elements of the past, that were so in awe of them that we don’t want to do anything different or better. We can imagine tweaking or correcting them, or putting more lesbians in them, but we can’t imagine surpassing them. We can’t imagine a better Star Wars and we definitely can’t imagine doing something that’s not Star Wars that’s better than Star Wars. We’re so in awe that we can’t get out from under its shadow and do our own thing culturally.
In a reboot, you’re trying to appease the people who want a sequel and trying to appease the people who think they want something different, and trying to do both at the same time. Or, appearing to do both at the same time, but just doing the former. The Thing reboot was released as Thing in 2011, which functionally worked as a remake but was also canonical to the first movie. I guess they call those “soft reboots”. It’s not even driven by markets per se, because with enough money and cultural influence you can decide what the market it. People will watch what you give them if it’s adequately entertaining. I don’t want to say that this is what people want, it’s a matter of what people will accept. These are very different things. They can’t consume anything better. Maybe they would, but they’re not really being given an informed choice. Studios are so afraid of it that they won’t do promotion. There’s a very conservative and risk averse mindset among the capitalist class making decisions, at least in this instance.
2015 and 2016 were very pivotal years in the popular culture landscape, especially the one that I’ve been posting about for the past… 2 and a half hours? Oh god. There were two other reboots of IP franchises at around the same time – Mad Max: Fury Road came out earlier in 2015 and Shin Godzilla in 2016. I think those are both great movies. But the interesting difference between them, and I’m kind of curious how this happened in that era of Hollywood, is that Fury Road was a passion project driven by George Miller. An actual movie by a guy who wanted to make movies, who made the original movies. He was looking not to cash in on what he’d done before, but thematically add to the level of spectacle and scope and outdo what he’d done in the 70s and 80s… Like an actual artist! And he did! It’s a perfect movie! And Shin Godzilla, it’s not the same guy, but that’s the same impulse driving it to a large extent. You watch the first episode of Evangelion, and it’s obvious that Anno is a huge Godzilla fan. He wants to do what the first Godzilla was to the post-WWII atomic bombings, which is an important thing to keep in mind with the original Godzilla. It’s an allegory for an atomic bomb in an abstract way, but it came out less than 10 years after those bombings. All the people in the theater watching the first Godzilla, watching those buildings falling, lived not just through the atomic bombings, but the harrowing convection and napalm bombings that leveled the whole cities before they dropped the a-bombs. Shin Godzilla is that, but for the post-Fukushima moment. It’s not in a cynical way, the going through the checklist of the discourse way, but a genuine response to the period way. Modernizing something in the sense of a difference product line for new sensibilities, versus reinterpreting a text artistically for a new context. The new Star Wars is the former. Fury Road and Shin Godzilla aren’t devoid of commercial influence, but they’re much more so the second direction. Truly great older blockbusters have some counterbalancing the commercial side with sincere artistic influence. Take this against things that are so lopsidedly commercial that whatever creative impulse and craftsmanship is there is drowned out, or filtered, or banded, or never present in the first place.

the beautiful person's journal - #4: the troubled production of the late 2010's videos, and my teenage self's concerns
Tumblr media
(just gonna give a little disclaimer...i obviously don't know jim personally. in this post, i'll be discussing the SPECULATIONS i had about the caddicarus show's production between 2016 and 19 that i gathered through public information on his social media accounts. these are my PERSONAL opinions! you may have different ones about this era of the channel, but i...was an observant little autistic teen.)
so, i'm pretty sure i've established several times now that i'm a fan from 2014. and if you happened to know me between 2014 and 2019, you'd probably remember that i was very much a proud 2014-15 era caddicarus fan.
and i had a reason to be proud! i came along the same year as the release of the legendary dalmatians 3 video. the channel went up over 200k subscribers that year - from 100k-something to 300k. it went up to 400k in 2015 before the stagnation period. us buzzcut/apartment-era fans were the most populous group of beautiful people before the 2020 reset. the community interacted a lot, the caddicarus show was fortnightly and it was putting out bangers such as the vib-ribbon, playstation cheats, snow white, and cheesy episodes.
but by mid-late 2015, some problems began to arise. there were rising debates in the fanbase about whether or not the caddicarus show should upload more frequently. the ballz and blossom blast episodes were very controversial. and the puppicarus show was the final nail in the coffin for the older community - it sent the fandom into violent fights and debates in the comment section. it was one of the first times our fanbase was truly divided...the only precedent for this would've been the stanley parable tinker time, which couldn't hold a candle to these events.
and after this incident...the caddicarus show became weekly in february 2016, which was HUGE at the time. all the beautiful people rejoiced as this was the first time in history we've had weekly episodes. AND with two bonus videos every week? what's not to love?
well...even back then, i was simultaneously excited...and worried. i was ecstatic about the show becoming weekly, and i was also excited about the channel getting new branding...and as you may recall, my expectations were a bit too high for the latter.
but i was very worried about caddy. this 21-year-old dude who had just moved into a family situation is now gonna have to pump out three videos a week, while staying consistent in quality and being there for his family?
and you know what? i had a lot of fun with season 6 when it came out. i have a lot of fond memories waiting for the video to come out every sunday, and during that waiting time, me and my fandom buddies would create stuff like memes and fanart.
and season 7 was fun too! that month of terrarr was by far my favorite, and the fall of 2016 is EXTREMELY nostalgic.
by the beginning of 2017, he'd moved to the current house and was still keeping a consistent schedule. current quickies was replaced with the caddy show, which had longer videos and more variety. film fridays was replaced with cinemaggots but it was still a show about movies nonetheless. and hey! even after all the other shows were phased out in 2016, there was still something for everyone on the caddicarus channel! don't like the monty python madness on the caddicarus show? check out the slower-paced caddy show instead! don't like video games? well, cinemaggots is the show for you!
season 8 was still great, but it wasn't as great as the two preceding it. well, surely things can only get better, right...?
season 9 was...a season alright.
sure, after re-evaluation i like it a bit more, but at the time...woof.
and this, my friends...is where i personally thought the cracks began to show.
i was thinking to myself at the ages of 15-16 in 2017-18 - why does jim feel like he needs to appeal to everyone? yeah, he has to make money and pump out these videos to feed his family, but is that really working? look at these view counts! they don't even begin to halfway reach the sub count! people aren't tuning in like they used to! the charm is going away! does jim not realize that the caddicarus show used to be an event? in 2014-15, if i got a notification on my phone for a caddicarus upload that said "... - caddicarus" at the end of the title, my ass dropped EVERYTHING i was doing. the caddicarus show was SERIOUS business.
who in god's name was itching to watch drive thru reviews?? film fridays?? tinker time?? most people who subbed to caddy were coming for the caddicarus show. but when he makes it weekly, not only does the feeling of it being an event go away, but it becomes routine and formulaic along with the other shows. every episode has the same structure, with these repeated jokes sprinkled in. "here's a crappy kids' game, here's me analyzing it in-depth for 20 minutes, obligatory content creator friend saying 'CADDY i played this WRETCHED game on my OWN channel, PLEASE caddy you are going to DIE if you play this', obligatory miluk reference, obligatory side character cameo for obligatory lore, here's me shooting the crappy kids' game, please remember to stay beautiful." this mindset is ultimately weakening the show. i can guarantee if he changed up his format and made the caddicarus show fortnightly or monthly again, the quality could go up AND his mental health would improve. please jim. we're worried about you.
...ok, those weren't my exact words. but i'll participate in a family prayer before i show y'all direct excerpts from my 2017-18 caddicarus random book on wattpad.
but those were still the thoughts that were brewing in my head. i was campaigning for monthly caddicarus episodes on my wattpad, i was always worried whenever he'd talk about his mental health. i thought that the schedule wasn't only hurting the video quality, but also him.
and...my suspicions were correct.
caddy has talked about this on many streams, interviews, and convention panels, such as the arlo podcast and this final fantasy stream; this work mindset absolutely destroyed him. paraphrasing these interviews and panels and streams, he would have mental breakdowns where he'd shut himself away from his family and the internet. he was making videos just for the sake of making them.
of course, when i was 14-16, this stuff wasn't really public knowledge yet. but i looked at clues such as the sub rate which began to stagnate as soon as late 2015, and the view counts of videos which began to suffer. caddy had thought he needed to pump out more videos to have his channel perform better, which obviously wasn't the case. he was stuck at 500k for over two years...these days, he takes about 8-9 months to gain 100k subs.
so now that i know a lot more, i understand fully why the quality of the show slipped.
i stopped watching in march 2019...and from what i was being told by a fandom friend who kept updating me on what was happening, things weren't really improving as much. december 2019 was one of his worst months for mental health. looking at this capture of his socialblade, he was bleeding subs in may 2019 and it was one of his worst months yet. that same month, he published the now-unlisted PUBG video, which was extremely divisive. it was also the same month where he tried to start a new film review show that he quickly pulled because he realized he was about to fall into the trap of having multiple shows again. and according to this community post and this video, he almost shut down the channel twice in 2019 because of how poorly it was performing.
needless to say, i stayed very worried about him throughout that year while i was pursuing other fandom endeavors. i would just feel sad watching the view counts deteriorate.
this quote from one of the community posts i linked says a lot:
As it turns out, this was more a strategic early move to save myself over anything. I know exactly how I get when I get overworked, and it isn't good. Uninspired, stressed, rushed, even sick - so before I got too into it and allowed to to negatively affect the Caddicarus Show, I nipped the movie review series in the bud before it could get too out of control. I REALLY need to stop letting these ideas get to my head. If I feel inspire to create more, PLEASE remind me to channel that ALL into Caddicarus. I'm insane.
this was EXACTLY my concern with the channel...and here it was being said back to us by the man himself.
i never said a word to him about this stuff. i never tried to get attention, i was never overly angry about it, i just had criticism. but this answer from the 2022 TMG panel just confirms to me that caddy had these same thoughts all this time since 2016...but he couldn't act on them because of the financial situation. and that combined with the mental health stuff...it feels kinda weird looking back on certain years of the show, especially 2019. when i think about the shit caddy was dealing with during the time, it kinda taints them.
here's a comment from jim in the replies of a top comment on the behind the scenes episode. the comment in question was a person reminiscing about the older videos and wishing caddy didn't rag on them so much:
Tumblr media
there's a lot of confusion as to why those older videos are tagged as such. but they're tagged for a reason. and it's not just because of the video quality. trust me, i was confused and irritated when i saw he'd done that, but after returning, i started to understand. of course, i don't support him straight up privating or deleting them, but simply tagging them is a good compromise. the thing is, a lot of us have amazing memories with these older videos. and i recall him making a tweet that went something like "the more i hear about my older videos the more i want to delete them", and all the lumpies and germs promptly began telling him "DON'T."
so, the 2016-19 era was pretty rough. but it's good knowing that things did get better from there. jim went through so much adversity and bullshit and it paid off astoundingly. this channel has seen hell, been through hell, and crawled out of hell before its putrid hands could pull it back in. caddy adapted, learned to game the system, stopped caring about numbers and staying relevant, and proceeded to create the best videos he's ever done...while rejuvenating his channel in the process. it had returned to a 2014-like community and sub rate...the sense of community that 15-16 year old me had longed to return. the loving community had faded away after the 2016 changes and i missed it so.
and just how rejuvenated was his channel? well...
just this past august - one day after my 8th anniversary of becoming a fan - he achieved what a lot of us in the fanbase thought was impossible for years. for a while, it looked like he'd never reach it. but with all his determination, resilience, and strength...he made it. and my god, i am so glad i was able to watch all this history unfold.
you are amazing, jim. 💜

I’ve been contemplating for ages whether I should finally watch Make it Right. I actually LOVED Lovesick despite its repetitive plot messiness and bad acting, not to mention how damn annoying it was to track down properly subbed eps of a remotely watchable quality, and I wondered if MiR would hit me in a similar way. So two questions for you: 1) what makes MiR resonate with you and worth rewatching? and 2) where is the best place to watch it?
I would say that if you enjoyed Lovesick, you might also enjoy Make It Right. It's another Blue Shorts Boys show. New Siwaj, who is probably known most now for Until We Meet Again, was an assistant director on Lovesick before teaming up with Cheewin and Yuan on Make It Right.
So, to your first question about why it's significant: Nostalgia and a deep understanding of Masculine Relationships.
It was 2016, and there wasn't much to watch that year that we could actually engage with. I watched SOTUS as my BL entry point, and then found Make It Right, and then Lovesick and Together With Me (I think). We didn't have a lot options, and we watched what was available. It's not dissimilar to how Western Queers have only a few options of genuinely queer TV across multiple countries and dozens of networks currently. The big shows this year being What We Do In the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death, Interview With the Vampire, Heartstopper, First Kill, and Young Royals as the simple standouts to name. Meanwhile in the land of BL, I've passed 55 completed shows in 2022 and have 12 active shows I'm watching. So I will appreciate Make It Right forever as a measuring point for comparison to any other pulps that air.
The other thing I still appreciate is that this creative team really understood boys, and this show is at its best when it's about masculine friendship. They may not have been able to get consistent performances out of these boys, but they clearly did a good job getting these boys to bond as friends. I think the Jude and Connor (The Fosters on Freeform) pinky touch happened in 2015, and American shows do not really do a lot of casual physical intimacy between male friends.
American show runners seem so concerned that their characters might be perceived as gay, so all touching is scrutinized. It was a huge relief to see a bunch of boys not afraid to touch each other and casually describing forming romances with each other. Also, they don't stop touching once they start to pair off. Sometimes BL friend groups don't feel real to me, and most of the characters exist to serve their role in the narrative. There's a charm in their green acting that implies a real friendship at work beyond the plot I find compelling.
Finally, it's messy as hell in a way that budding queer romances would face. All of the relationships get off to problematic starts, but they're all kids and it's they're first time making big mistakes. It's very endearing.
To your second question, a great fan in the era provided a path for us. The AP POTTER uploads have the most consistent subs. The other ones become incoherent and wrong midway through. I think this playlist works for season 2, but it seems we keep having problems preserving the 14th episode.

Every OC needs a face claim especially on my page lol so here’s my Frankie face claim
Tumblr media
Frankie when she started on stranger things, 2015-2016 era. I know this person has green eyes but Frankie has blue eyes. I said she looks like Duff with dark hair, kinda off but you get the point
Tumblr media
Frankie in college 21-23. I like to think she was an engineer major, sis definitely made the Misogynistic men mad. Top of her class as well. This was her party phase for sure.
Tumblr media
Frankie in 2020, Corona era. She got bored and decide to chop off her hair. Duff was shocked when Frankie snuck over for a dinner at his house. He liked it but Frankie has always had long hair, so a shock. Mae was obsessed with it, said her piercings made her look more badass.
Now Frankie is back to dark(first pic), just below her shoulders/bra line. She has tattoos, a couple big ones. First one was on the side of her right hand, says paradise in cursive. She is a huge fan of Lana Del rey(why she got it). Has Duff and Y/n’s birth years on her heart/chest. So 64 & 66, has a Fleetwood Mac tat. It’s representation of Gold dust woman, Frankie’s favorite song. Now her bigger ones are patch work ones. Skull that has fire out of its eyes, a tarot card of the lovers as skeletons kissing. Of course she let her first boyfriend in hs do a stick and poke. It’s a heart with vines around it. Well suppose to be, shitty work and ink got fucked up since she was 17.

explaining my kpop lore
inspired by a tweet I made, we’re talking about seventeen, bts, got7, nct, and more!
Tumblr media
so first of all, i consistently lied about how long I was into kpop because when I had a huge active Twitter account, you were seen as cooler if you were into it in your older days. so let’s just make that clear…oomfs I’m sorry </3 it’s been around 8 years or so (2015) is when I actually got into it. but I always used to say 2013.
anyway, I got into kpop right around when seventeen released their shining diamond EP. I stumbled upon them on YouTube and someone reacting to their shining diamond MV. I watched so many of their old predebut videos and very quickly they were the very first group I absolutely adored, and I only got into kpop social media after I started making edits of them on vine. before that I was exclusively following them through YouTube videos. i have always been a jun/scoups/VERNON lover but as of lately i don’t keep up with them actively.
my favorite songs by seventeen are simple, pretty u, HABIT (untouchable FLAWLESS track), Q&A, and change up!!
so after getting introduced to kpop by seventeen, I was then introduced to bts, got7, exo. I went through a serious and intense bts phase, like it was bad. had those black debut jerseys in my Amazon cart and everything like 😭
now, I was 13 years old here, so of course I was a bit obsessed with these men. i probably have thousands of pictures of jimin and jungkook saved in my google photos. yes it’s embarrassing but honestly, i was so happy i think it’s okay that i was a cringe 13 year old. as for my favorite members, i went through a phase with yoongi, hoseok, jimin, and jungkook 😭 i feel that because i loved this group so much my favorite really changed a lot, i liked them all equally. like during my discovery of bts, i immediately liked jimin, but during the i need u/run (hyyh) era I liked jungkook a lot, then during wings i was very attached to hoseok and yoongi </3 for a while now though, jungkook has been my favorite :)
my list of favorite bts songs is a huge list, but here it is; (using the Spotify titles because I forgot the hangul/romanization for them) tomorrow (top 5 for sure), just one day, butterfly, silver spoon, embarrassed, young forever, lie, reflection (also top 5), spring day, stigma, cypher 4, best of me, truth untold, singularity, black swan, boy with luv, fake love, SEESAW (top 3. argue with the wall.), you never walk alone, my time, and lots more. im not gonna say their discography is flawless, because every group has their stinkers, BUT bts is one of those groups I can just shuffle and most songs I won’t skip because I like them that much.
personally, I could make an entire post about wings and how insanely good that entire era was. I’m sure some kpop group has done the concept of every member having their own track before, but since I wasn’t into kpop before 2015, this is the first time it was presented to me. and it was done SO god damn well. i was obsessed with any and all fan theories, counting down to the next teaser, and lost my mf MARBLES when I finally watched blood sweat and tears for the first time. that era and album, the concept, the visuals, the MUSIC, FLAWLESSLY done. like do you hear that dissonance on lie? are you kidding me??? the strings?? tae’s voice on stigma????!!??!??!? I am so not normal about reflection, it’s very bad for meee!! it’s insane the production tha went into those tracks, they are ALL so good..the only songs I’m skipping on that album is just am i wrong and 2,3! THATS IT. YEAH, WE BUMPING INTERLUDE:WINGS TOO!
im still holding onto the hope that I can see them perform live someday. they are a group really special to me despite whatever infuriating fan wars were happening on Twitter in 2016/17. also just REALLY wanna hear the black swan into fake love transition like i just know that will change my life forever….
moving onto exo! I think I found them before BTS, but it wasn’t that much before. just like slightly, like I discovered EXO right before I discovered BTS. I was really sad because, by the time I discovered EXO, kris had already left the group. he was the one who caught my eye the most, which was in the mama exo-m music video. but i moved on from that and jongin was always my bias, it never changed. i did have a brief stint liking xiumin but I don’t think my bias ever rlly changed. i didn’t listen to as much of their music but i feel that their discography is a little timeless honestly, disregarding some interesting tracks…(looking at you wolf..)
my favorite exo songs are; what is love!! insanely good. moonlight, mama, playboy, el dorado (top 5 for sure😭), black pearl, shes dreaming, artificial love, MONSTER!!!!!!!, lucky one, obsession, the eve, SWEET LIES !!!! sad what their company’s management has done to exo as a whole but I still really enjoy their music. I recently watched their episode of killing voice and while I didn’t know many of the songs they sung, it’s always so nice to hear their voices. it’s always really great vocals from kyungsoo and suho. another group I really liked was monsta x, favorite members were always shownu and wonho <3 I did get to see them live on July 16, 2017! hyungwon was sick so he wasn’t there :( but it was an amazing night. i discovered so many new songs by MX and after that concert they were solidified as one of my favorite boy groups ever. some of my fave MX songs: perfect girl, from zero, fighter!!! (so INSANE live) dramarama, now or never, tropical night, shine forever, miss you, beautiful, STUCK!!!!, and beautiful! the clan was also an era I really really liked, the cinematic videos they had were amazing!!!
nct was a group i was lucky enough to watch debut which I feel their debut was INSANE. i can’t believe how early on mark lee established himself as an actually GOOD rapper. there’s a lot of boys in nct so i had a lot of ‘em that I really liked, but mainly taeyong, jaehyun, and doyoung. i really liked the concept of their sub units, the dreamies were so young when they debuted and it was a treat to watch them grow as artists. i know exactly where I was when I listened to the 7th sense, fire truck, and chewing gum for the first time. i unfortunately do not know too many of their newer stuff besides title tracks but i really like a lot of the stuff that they put out.
my fave nct songs: wake up (SO underrated), the 7th sense, boss, baby don’t stop, black on black, cherry bomb, SUN&MOON (had like a 30 second clip of this song as my pinned tweet for months. it genuinely changed my life hearing this for the first time), 0 mile, baby don’t like it, limitless, kick it, Pandora’s box, nonstop, punch, life is still going on 💛, we go up, chewing gum, ridin, and regular!!
i also really liked day6, my favorite member was jae and my favorite song of all time will always be i smile!! I saw them live and heard shoot me for the first time it was CRAZY. other songs I really liked were; I would, i wait, letting go, blood, sing me, and somehow.
honorable mentions of really good boy group or soloist songs I was obsessed with vixx - shangri-la vixx - fantasy wanna one - energetic shinee - odd eye (PEAK) shinee - 1 of 1 shinee - don’t stop shinee - replay agust d - tony montana agust d - agust d block b - her hotshot - jelly
alright time for my big one!! i actively followed got7 since 2015 when I discovered them. by this time they had JUST released just right, and what an insanely good video to introduce someone new to them 😭 so perfectly cute and catchy, like how could you not fall in love? And with the sea of content i had with all the real got7 episodes it’s like it was destined for them to be my favorite group of all time. And it’s crazy the absolute whiplash I got that same year when they got all dark and released if you do!!!! both such amazing AMAZING songs to be released in one year.
I’m gonna go ahead and skip my Twitter career as an ahgase, including the exposé thread on mark’s friends which blew up my account (looking back it’s weird for me as a 14 year old to police whom he was friends with, and the mf I exposed mark is still friends with him sooo…anyway) it’s long and a little embarrassing but just know I was ride or fucking die for got7 on Twitter. i was on there everyday, counting down the days to their next comeback, live tweeting during vlive streams, sending out thousands of tweets a day to vote for them on award shows, crying and screaming and terrorizing the timeline anytime mark so much as breathed in a cute way.
speaking of which, got7 is another group that my love for them was so big, it migrated around to almost every member. i of course always loved mark and made that very known, but there were times when i was tweeting just a bit more about yugyeom, or jackson, or bambam, or (surprisingly) jaebeom.
my experience definitely changed after I saw them live for the first time in the pit in Miami. it was pretty life changing and i know I say that a lot, but it was first concert EVER and i was so excited and happy. i cried immediately when they came out singing let me. got to do photo op for them (my amazing mommy allowed me to experience this) the picture has me sitting with jaebeom posing cutely above me. i was wearing like a weird thrasher shirt with a navy blue striped shirt under it and had very old and raggedy braids…I was going through a rough time financially. i got to see them again in Newark in 2019!! I didn’t get to do a photo op that time, but I was a lot cuter in my outfit.
for this music section, you can view my favorite got7 song from every album (excluding jpn releases). I’m that in love with their music, YUP!
and there we have it. comprehensive post of my kpop “lore” with lots of stuff left out. I made so many amazing friends through kpop and despite the reputation kpop groups and fans have, I really loved being in an active community of people especially ahgases. lots of love to all my friends, nutdonalds my first gc of friends who made stan Twitter something worth coming back to every single day, cunt7 my best friends that I wouldn’t trade for the fucking world, leo who was my first best friend i met irl and showed me so much kindness always. and all the friends that stayed in contact with me after I kind of fell out of the kpop Twitter life, you all know who you are. 🩷
