I've seen people say that Jim asking Stede "do you know what the humidity will do to your hair?" is an example of Jim being a dumbass but I disagree. There are plenty of examples if Jim being dumb of ass, but I don't think this is one of them. In fact, I think it's pretty smart and tells us that Jim knows their target well enough to know that Stede would absolutely worry about his hair in this situation.

Unfortunately, Jim failed to take into account that of-fucking-course Stede would have at least one hat, if not many, to remedy this. And that is where Jim's dumbassery comes into play.

I see you like lawlight! (its pretty obvious why when you take a look at all your other ships) for some reason my favorite type of lawlight fics are where L and light meet at the afterlife and they have a philosofical discussion about morality and death, i like that ending personally because having L and light spend the rest of eternity being able to have each other and discuss, something they love to do with each other, makes me happy

:)) I love that you saw the kind of ships I have and went 'Yep, Lawlight, that checks out.' And you're right! I'm almost disappointed in myself and how predictable I am with the enemies-to-lovers thing. Lawlight is one of my oldest ships, though. A quick check on my ancient FFN profile tells me I have bookmarks dating back to over a decade ago.

And that is a very good genre of Lawlight fic, I agree. Always did love stories in which they kept having complex mindgames and genuine debates about various subjects. Have you read If It's Not Me, It's You (Welcome To The Cat's Game) by Self-Inflicted Insanity over on FFN? If not, I highly recommend it for great dialogue and mutual manipulation that feels so close to canon it's unreal -- it's such a smart, well-written fic. Also, ash by the same author is a fic set in the afterlife, with the two of them, and I love that it's appropriately creepy and unsettling; after all, they're dead, and one of them did kill the other.

Anyway, while my tastes skew towards the angstier, more tragic endings for Lawlight (as the above suggests), I certainly see the appeal of them getting a version of peace, like you've described.

If someone enjoys your fave in a way you don’t like, that doesn’t mean their interpretation is wrong.
