Doctor Who The Giggle

60th anniversary in the bag!

I enjoyed that the whole thesis of this is the Doctor finally reckoning with all the pain he has. Because it's true, he usually runs away or if he does take a break, it seems like he takes the first excuse he can find to distract himself.

The episode did enjoy bringing up loads of past stories, which did get a little tiresome toward the end. But the summary of the Moffat-era companions for Donna was quite good. "Well that's all right then!" Lots of companions had not-quite-deaths.

It was interesting that the two games that were played were extremely simple. I like it. The Doctor knew that he couldn't win by being "the smartest man in the room." So while imo the catch game was a little weird and anticlimactic, it made sense.

I'm surprised that the revised bi-generation leak didn't end up being accurate. The one where 15 was pulled from the moment of 14's actual regeneration in the future. Maybe the leaker got that from 15's line that he's mentally healthier because 14 ends up doing the work, and that therapy goes out of order.

For some reason I'm more okay with bi-generation having actually seen it. I think it's because they made it look like mitosis lol. And THIS is why 14 wasn't wearing 13's clothes; they were weird special clothes that would split along with the bi-generation! Maybe! Also this means that 14 was going commando for the entire last act.

I'm still super cynical about how they probably did this so they could get another show with Tennant. Hopefully that never happens. But I still wonder what will happen when 14 dies? It'll probably be that 15 took all the regenerations lol.

Someone on reddit pointed out that they used the "Last Christmas" score in Wild Blue Yonder when the Doctor and Donna were talking about if he was all right. And they used it again here!! Ugh, I love that score. I haven't watched Last Christmas since it first aired but I've listened to that track many times (I should watch it again this Christmas!). If I remember, the story was about slowing down and appreciating the relationships you have, which is what The Giggle is about too! "Every Christmas is last Christmas" :,)

I said somewhere that I would do unspeakable things if they used the Heaven Sent score again. Which they didn't (yet), thank goodness. I thought I heard a few notes of it as they were arriving at UNIT, but it was so few that it was probably just a passing similarity.

I felt so vindicated when 15 pointed out that the TARDIS needs a chair!! Yes, it always needs chairs! But I don't see one in your TARDIS yet, 15, only a jukebox!!

If I had a nickel for every time a mysterious hand picked up a small item that contained the Master, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. And where is that hand even coming from, it's right on the edge of the helipad!

David did a great job at portraying the Doctor as someone who had the extra ~1000 years (or billions, depending on who you ask) after 10. I think the face came back because 10 was the one who lived for the shortest amount of time, and 10 was the most scared of change and "letting go." If the Doctor's going to heal, it's this personality that needs to do it. Or else it won't stick.

I'm so excited for Ncuti Gatwa. The Giggle was the ending to the 2005 show, which is so weird to think about. I didn't expect it to do that--I thought that the "season 1" renumbering would be pretty arbitrary. But I like that it ended. I never expected feel a sense of closure from Doctor Who, but it's there.

Oooooooooh, well, I have a few ideas, but not much in terms of, like, specific plot stuff:

If I Had A Nickel For Every Time I Watched An Actual Play Group's First Online Campaign Where The Goth Elf Ends Up A Champion Of The Raven Queen, I'd Have Two Nickels - Which Isn't A Lot, But It's Weird That It's Happened Twice. (and by that I mean I would love for Arrnodel and Vax to meet.) EDIT: also a Two Nickels moment with Arrnodel and Fjord both being unwitting warlocks in pacts with a fuck-off giant snake patron and then end up changing patrons as a major part of their character arc.

Just... the insanity (and destruction) that would happen as a result of the Fate Maidens meeting The Mighty Nein, given that one of the M9's bffs is a Drow, and. Y'know. Everything with Kara.

Building off of this - adding Valerius and/or Gidget to Caleb and Essek and Veth's magic experiments and Wizard Hubris™.

I've only watched one episode of Favour so far, but I know for a fact that Aoife and Fearne would adore each other. Also maybe low-key distant relatives? 👀👀👀

(Okay full disclosure this is just me taking my faves from each campaign and smooshing them together) But like I think that Keyleth and Sawyeh would have so much to talk about?? Like both of them being the youngest in their respective groups and having these expectations placed on their shoulders, and their respective elemental ties and how they feel about using those powers and their relationships with each particular element (Sawyeh generally being more drawn to fire on her own and water because of Persana [I still don't know how to spell the water elemental's name lol], and Keyleth being drawn more to air and earth [plus fire when she's pissed]). Plus throw Caduceus into the mix for some tea and meditation and growing up in an isolated religious/spiritual centre, and.... I'm gonna cut myself off here. 😅

HANG ON I JUST THOUGHT OF. PARALLELS. Rem/Isolde vs Allura/Kima???? Powerful WLW political leaders who are supporters of the party, one of whom is stabby and take-action and the other is a spell-caster and more cautious???? Is this something???? (I vote yes 🖤❤️🤍 💙💛🤎)

Also speaking of parallels - Ranna and Dorian? Enough said.

OKAY BUT I HAD A CRAZY DREAM LAST NIGHT WHERE IT WAS THE STORY OF OMORI THROUGH HERO'S PERSPECTIVE AND AND AND IT WAS SO COOL AND DETAILED LIKE WHAT WAS MY BRAIN DOING?????

Omori spoilers obviously

OKAY MY BRAIN JUST DECIDED TO START AT A RANDOM POINT IN THE STORY THAT POINT BEING HERO'S JOURNEY TO ACCEPTANCE FOR SOME REASON??? Well this whole dream was jarring by itself so yeah.

So basically:

Basil's apology: Kel trying to cheer Hero up

Sunny's house when Mari was alive: Kel and Hero's house when Mari was alive (obvi)

"Don't forget, it's in the toy box": "Remember what you love"

Mari: Guess

The violin: Hero's old frying pan that he gave up after Mari's death

Memory Lane: I don't actually know my mind just skipped this part lol. If I were to guess, it'd be the same as Sunny's because they were all together in those moments.

Backstage: Basil, Sunny, and Aubrey remind Hero of what's right and encourage him

The Stage: It's a basic kitchen set-up; a counter, oven, stove, bowls and measuring cups, some ingredients, etc etc. Hero tries to bake himself cookies, but it's all too overwhelming for him and he breaks down in memory of Mari.

White Space: I have no fucking idea

Omori: Idk but I know the final boss is SOMETHING in the form of Hero's depression

Yeah that's basically the rundown of the dream! If I had a nickel for every time I had a dream about an OMORI AU, I'd have two nickels.

Thoughts on Owl House season 2 (bc they finally made it available in my country):

- Hootie x Lilith????????????? What? How could this happen? And why is it sorta adorable?

- Eda's non-binary love interest is mwah mwah ❤️ so perfect. I love them.

- Belos is a dilf???? Okay.

- lol Hunter is tumblr shaped

- why is Principal Bump ALSO a dilf??????? (Without his palisman. Like dang, that hair is fabulous.)

- ...uhm??? Belos knew the whole time that Luz has the key to the human realm. He got the damn shards of the door from her. And he didn't do jack shit to seek out Luz and Eda. Clearly he doesn't care about the key. Why does Hunter's threat that they'd come after them even work???? But then again, Amity is not all-knowing and Luz maybe didn’t fill her in on this super specific detail

- okay. Correction, Belos did NOT know about the key… I forgot that Luz was sneaky about it when handing over the portal door. (Still, if I were Belos and the portal door was broken, I would grill Eda until she tells me more about it?? Like? She was powerless, and yet they ignore her until she becomes powerful and a problem again)

(- This is quickly turning into a live react where I write my thoughts down while watching whoops…)

- BELOS LEFT BEHIND A BROTHER WHO IS IN THE HUMAN REALM AND OBSESSED WITH WITCHES??? Eh... I mean, I assume. (I mean, come on, it's pretty obvious that Belos = that human dude from the past, and those statues… look familiar)

- or maybe it's just a descendant...? I mean, I can explain Belos living longer due to magic, but not a regular human. Or maybe I just assume it's been a long time ago because of of the clothes

- Luz doppelganger is cute as fuck (and has Amethyst's voice actor ahhh. If I had a nickel for every time this person played a person who desperately wants a place where they belong, I'd have two nickels...)

- the cafe worker misremembering Eda's name 🤣

- okay, it's not Belos' brother (that guy's probably dead) but a self proclaimed youtube witch hunter. Kay.

- lol Lilith's mentor was fem!Indiana Jones, nice

- Belos: "I look forward to meeting you again, Luz the human." Luz: "...but we already met?" Me: why are they saying that so weirdly? (One episode later, Luz is travelling into the past to meet "Philip") Me: Ah. Okay, now it makes sense. (Also lol, Belos is such a funny guy for foreshadowing that xD)

- I love that Lilith quickly catches on to Philip's behaviour and way of talking being veeeeeeery familiar. Can‘t trick her twice with flattery. …well, obviously you can, but you know what I mean!

- "I needed a sacrifice." My man, you should not sound so sexy while being a stone cold treacherous asshole. Is backstabbing how he survived this whole time? Wow.

- Lilith punched that sucker so hard she broke his nose. good for her ❤️

- also he put magic sigils on his body? Really? That's how he ruined his body? What a loser

(- okay, to be fair, he probably didn‘t have one million types of media, movies, books, etc. warning him from meddling with his body and magic during his era in the human world……………but still. Extremely stupid!)

- and so the mirror was a way to meet the Collector after all! ...why did they trust a single word that lying snake said? xD they already KNOW he's a lying liar. *sigh* They really are too gullible. Good guy disease.

- it also makes a lot of sense why Belos never really hurt Luz. Needed to wait until Luz gets into the past, and since he has no way of knowing when that happens……

- *reaches episode 13*

Darius: "You're the emperor's... nephew (derogatory)."

Nephew, nephew, nephew.... (This is the dramatic echo happening in my head at this moment, as I remember that Belos has been calling him that ALL THE TIME, but I merely assumed he adopted a witch kid, just like Eda adopted a human kid.)

OMG HE'S HIS ACTUAL FUCKING NEPHEW, HUNTER IS BELOS'/PHILIP'S BROTHER'S SON, (so Belos' brother had a kid with a witch, haha, take this, witch hater), AHHHH AND HIS BROTHER IS NOT JUST DEAD BUT DEAD DEAD. Like he died in THIS realm, instead of being left behind in the human realm. (My prior theory was that there was one brother in each realm, desperately trying to reunite again. *waves at the whole “Day of Unity” thing* I thought that was to fuse the two realms together, like in the end of svtfoe. If it was clear before this that the brother also came into the demon realm, leave me alone, there’s too much info to soak in for me to remember it all! xD …also, I like my old theory. Would still make a good AU.)

This is some crazy shit and I'm mad it took me this long to get it. The hair should have already tipped me off.

- On a completely different note, the Belos-Hunter relationship is smelling delicious. My senses for toxic family dynamics are tingling and I've been intrigued ever since their first interactions. There’s so much trauma to unpack here, I just know it.

- 1. Darius was the student of Hunter's "precedessor". "He" was one of the strongest witches he'd ever known. Strong implication that it's Hunter's dad? Also, was his dad able to do magic without glyphs? Or a trickster like Belos? 2. I'm only now realising that Darius has the same voice actor as Horde Prime. Nice! xD (it was the last line of that whole scene that tipped me off, there was something very “primey” about it)

- "Teens are probably into the same things as me. Like authority! And rules!” The funniest quote of the entire show 🤣 I'm dead laughing

- the casual banter between the emperor's coven members is always so fun. Also, you should really listen to Steve, Hunter. (It's funny how even Darius is disappointed in him)

- I officially like Darius now. (What's his deal?? At his first introduction, he seemed to follow Belos obediently. But I guess he has his cool sides)

- heh. Knew there was something between Alador and Darius.

- Eda & Bump are an iconic duo xD

- so Hunter is a clone. Huh. (Knew it was something fucked up) Poor guy. That’s a lot. On top of the already existing trauma from being raised inside the coven. Oh boy.

- I don’t have time to dig into the mess that Belos is lol

(- also Kikimora, now that think of it. Giiiiiiiirl, you have issues)

- just wanna note that I like the reoccurring theme of old friendships + romantic relationships being rekindled, but the people having changed so much, and that leading to people being successfully surprised/tricked cause they still cling to the old image they have of them. Happens with Willow & Amity, Eda/Raine, and more. It’s nice.

- we’re doing the whole “Eda sacrifices herself” 2.0 thing from the last finale again (I mean…it is consistent with their characterisation and I want to bawl my eyes out at Eda fully embracing being their mom)

- King is a titan! I’m…not that surprised, but I don’t have to be to appreciate it. I waited for them to dig into his storyline <3 also the twist with the titan trappers was nice. Their connection to the collector however…THAT was surprising. (Also makes it that much more painful that King is the one bargaining with the Collector)

- Collector is creepy & me likey. God mode creator. Basically a writer. The pressure at the finale is real….

- I finished the season, wanted to look how long I’d have to wait till the third one might reach me and then found out the show’s been cancelled and there are only three more special episodes 🙃 and they had to cut storylines……. Agggrhhdhdhdjjdhdhhdggd, Disney, why do you hate creators? This is such a great story and now I’ll probably end up not getting the answers I need.

Het gacha anon here, my bets so far are: izuchako (duh) and kamijirou as tied for "has the most chemistry together"; then running the chemistry gamut, theres kirimina, iidamei, kendomono, and bakucamie. "Least chemistry, but I'm sure it'll happen anyway" is tsuyami, ojikure, Koda/pony, Shoji/setsuna, and todomomo. The former four because we don't get much screen time with them, but their quirks fit a theme (the half animal couple, the wallflower couple, the animal whisperer with the least amount of screen time and the half animal with the least amount of screen time, and the body part stuff couple) and todomomo because.... Well you put it best already lol.

The only one I'm not 100% sure of is iidamei. My reasoning for them is mostly "they interacted in a memorable way that one time", but I could also see hori going for Melissa/iida and shinso/Mei to pair the spares. However, since those two pairs don't really interact--let alone in a memorable way--I'm putting my money on iida/Mei.

I also used to be so sure that mineta and midnight would end up together (not because I shipped them (I don't really ship any of these lmao, I just collect them) but because if I had a nickel for everytime I saw the pervert get paired with the promiscuous older woman, I'd have... actually more than two nickels. It's starting to get kinda weird, guys.) but... Well.... I think we all know why that's not gonna happen lol.

Faceless wife: sero and Sato. If kamijirou isn't a thing, then it'll be kaminari/ibara and jirou will have a faceless husband

The ONLY gay hori will risk including: aoyama. He will also have a faceless husband.

If none of these are canon I will be pleasantly surprised. C'mon horikoshi, prove me wrong. You already did it once with mineta and midnight, keep up the winning streak.
