Dear Boom,
Please do not revive the love triangle ship wars again, it hasn’t even been a whole year of the comics, please let Buffy focus on being sixteen and working to save her friends and having adventures with Camazotz, let Angel assemble his crew and relive his messy Outlander hair past, let Drusilla and Spike wreak havoc across the Hellmouth,
I lived through that time once already and I Don’t Need It Again,
Sincerely yours,
A tired Fandom old

No More and No Less
[No Angel] [No Comebacks] [No More and No Less]
pairing: rafael casal x reader
request: many many (very...enthusiastic) requests for part 3 of no angel
summary: rafa has been teasing reader while she has work to do, then reader returns the favor
warnings: swearing, smut, dirty talk, face fucking, D/s
word count: 4,938
a/n: part three of the “No Angel” series. will make sense without the first two parts, but i suggest you read them first. this is mostly just smut, and i would say sorry except that i really am not. it goes without saying that i still want rafael casal to bone me. happy reading.
“There’s no way that Professor Hopewell expects this paper to be completely coherent,” Ava groans, a hand threading into her hair in frustration. “A comparison of Leo Tolstoy and Vladimir Nabokov? It’s apples and fucking oranges.”
“They’re both Russian,” you offer up meekly. Truth be told, you have no clue how you’re supposed to tie them together. All you know was that this paper is worth thirty percent of your grade, and you can’t afford to get anything less than a B.
“They’re from different time periods,” she huffs, flipping angrily through the pages of Anna Karenina.
You don’t respond to her, instead sinking back into the novel open in front of you. Thoughts of your lazy morning flood into your head, and you struggle to tear your mind away from the way Rafa had woken you up by slipping under the covers and settling between your naked thighs. You’re marking a particularly interesting passage with a sticky note when your phone buzzes on the table.
The librarian glares at you and you mutter an apology, clicking the device onto silent. You could’ve sworn you turned your phone off earlier, after Rafa’s insistent sexting. It’s not that you weren’t into it, you just had a lot of work to do and him teasing you all afternoon had made it difficult to focus.
Rafa’s name lights up the screen and you swipe it open.
‘You still in the library?’
I am, why?
‘Do you trust me?’
Your heart picks up in your chest, mind racing. His intentions are a mystery at this point, but his question is easy enough for you to answer.
Wholeheartedly.
‘Good answer. Tell Ava you need to find a book and go to the Rare book room. It’s through the back of the Archives.’
What the fuck? Why?
‘That wasn’t a question, angel.’
“I’ll be back,” you peek across the table at Ava, shuffling your books around and marking your pages. “I need to look for a book.”
She murmurs her acknowledgement as you walk away, leaving your locked phone in the middle of the table. Your black t-shirt dress swings gently around your legs as you hurry toward the Archives. You head through the door in the middle of the back wall of the Archives, entering what seems like an entirely new dimension.
The ceilings soar above you, arches giving way to artistically painted panels. Clouds and stars guard the solitary chandelier hanging down from the center of the dome.
“Shit,” you murmur, glancing around.
“So I take it you’ve never been in the rare book room, then,” a deep voice says from behind you. You jump slightly and turn, a hand clutched to your chest.
“What are you doing? Don’t scare me like that,” you pout.
Rafa reaches out and takes your hand, pressing a light kiss to your knuckles before guiding you toward the stacks. “I’m sorry, angel.”
“Where are we going?” You’re struggling to keep up with him, the chunky heels of your boots thumping quickly against the tile floor.
“You sure have a lot of questions today,” he murmurs, turning behind a shelf and slowing his pace a bit.
“You sure don’t have a lot of answers,” you grumble back at him, the pout once again settling onto your face.
Rafael whirls around and shoves you harshly against the bookshelf, his hand pressing against the base of your throat. “I’ve been very indulgent with your curiosity, but you’re trying my patience,” he snarls at you. “Stop being such a brat.”
The authority in his voice sends a shiver down your spine. You swallow as harshly as possible with Rafa’s hand around your neck, feeling wetness pooling between your thighs.
“I’m sorry, sir,” you manage airily. “I won’t do it again, I promise.”
“Good girl,” he coos, releasing the pressure on your neck. “Now, I want you to tell me what your favorite novel is and why. Don’t skimp on the details.”
“Wh-” you begin, but his hand presses against your throat again.
“No more fucking questions,” he snaps. A new wave of arousal collects in your panties. “I’ve had quite enough of them. You’ll answer my questions, not the other way around.”
“Yes, sir,” you manage a minuscule nod.
“Your favorite novel,” he repeats, relaxing his hand and tracing his fingers over your collarbone.
“Things Fall Apart,” you say, meeting his intense gaze.
“That’s Achebe, right?” His hand continues its path over your shoulder and down your arm, tangling his fingers with your own.
You nod again.
“And why is it your favorite? Tell me all about it.”
“It’s a very complex work with many layers of storytelling incorporated,” you begin. He moves the hand that isn’t tangled with yours to grip at your hip lightly. “The reason it’s my favorite, though, is the way it examines the shortcomings of a patriarchal society. The men in the village are expected not to show affection, which obviously deeply impacts the way they form relationships.”
Rafael hums lightly in response, his fingers bunching up the fabric over your hip.
“But it also talks about the necessity of community. There’s a quote that stuck with me about it, ‘We do not pray to have money but to have more kinsmen. We are better than animals because we have kinsmen. An animal rubs its itching flank against a tree, a man asks his kinsman to scratch him.’”
“Mm, I remember reading that quote,” Rafa says as his hand slips under your dress, the skin-to-skin contact making you shiver slightly. “Any other quotes that you particularly enjoyed?” He trails a finger down your hipbone, following the curve of your upper thigh before he just barely makes contact with your clit through your panties.
“I- um,” you stammer as he starts to rub circles against your bundle of nerves. “Yes, sir. ‘If you had been poor in your last life I would have asked you to be rich when you come again. But you were rich,’” you pause, a small gasp passing your lips as his motions increase in frequency. “‘If you had been a coward, I would have asked you to bring courage. But you were a fearless warrior. If you had died young, I would have asked you to get life. But you lived long.’”
Your eyelids drift closed as Rafa’s hand trails down to trace your entrance through the lace.
“‘But you lived long. So I shall ask you to come again the way you came before.’” You finish, your breath suddenly becoming more labored as his fingertips sneak beneath your underwear.
“You’re doing so well, angel. But keep going. When you’re talking, you’re usually so eloquent, so composed and rational, but there’s a certain point when we’re together that you become incapable of intelligent thought. When all that you can think about is the pleasure. Baby girl, I want to hear the precise moment that this becomes too much for your brain to handle.” He untangles his other hand from yours and slides it up your side, cupping your breast over your dress.
You whimper lightly, arching your back to press your chest closer to his touch.
“Go on, baby girl. Keep talking,” he commands, one hand lifting your thigh to give his other more access to the space between your legs.
“There’s a lot of talk about, um- oh,” you moan lightly as two fingers slide into you abruptly. You take a shaky breath and continue as he begins to thrust his fingers in and out of you.
“There’s talk of perseverance and personal accountability. Okonkwo didn’t have a good childhood and inherited nothing from his father, but he didn’t let that stop his forward progress. He- fuck, even while his father was still alive he started to build a better life for himself.”
“Very interesting,” Rafa nods. He moves his fingers faster as his thumb rubs at your clit.
You squeeze your eyes closed, taking a deep breath.
“‘Our elders say that the sun will shine on those who stand before it shines on those who kneel under them,’” You manage, though at this point even you can hear the way your voice has become lighter, more subservient.
Rafael plants a soft kiss at the pulse point just below your ear. “There’s that tone I love,” he confides, his hot breath fanning out over your skin. “You’re falling deeper into subspace, losing more and more control, aren’t you angel?”
“Yes, sir,” you breathe, your head falling back against the bookshelf as his lips explore your neck.
“Mm, and who’s doing that to you? Who’s making you feel so good you can’t remember what you were talking about just a moment ago?” He drives a third finger into you, your walls stretching around the addition. Rafa crooks his fingers to massage your g-spot and you take a shaky breath, preparing to speak again.
“You, sir,” you whimper as his fingers accelerate. “Only you.”
“That’s right,” he mumbles against your skin, and you can feel his slight smirk. “I’m the only one who makes you feel this good. The only one who can keep you on edge for me all day, keep you so ready for me any time I want you. Isn’t that right?”
“Yes, sir,” you agree quickly, moving your hips desperately against his hand as you feel your orgasm quickly approaching.
“You sound like you’re having a bit of a problem there, angel. Do you need to come for me?” Rafael’s lips follow along your jawline as you nod frantically.
“Yes, please, sir, please.”
“Oh, I think you can do better than that,” he growls, not slowing his pace. “After your attitude earlier, you’re going to have to do much better than that to convince me to let you come.”
“Please sir, please, oh my God, I’m so close,” you begin to babble. His fingers are moving at a steady pace, thumb still pressed against your clit, and you’re just barely able to keep yourself from falling over the edge. “I’m so sorry for giving you attitude earlier, I’m so so sorry and I promise I’ll be so good if you let me come. I’ll be the best sub for you, I’ll do whatever you want, just please, please-”
“Come,” Rafa commands in a harsh tone.
As your climax washes over you, you bite down hard on your lip to keep from crying out. Your knees buckle and Rafael’s arm braces you, keeping you from falling.
“Good girl,” he says softly as you come down from your high, your legs solidifying beneath you.
“Sir,” your eyes are trained on the floor, head bowed slightly. “Will you- um…”
“What is it, angel? What do you need?” His finger hooks under your chin and lifts your gaze to his own.
“Can I please feel you, sir? I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all day, ever since you ate me out this morning,” you shift your weight back and forth between your feet as you talk. “I understand if you say no, though, because I was bad earlier. But I just really want to feel you, please.”
Rafael bends down to capture your mouth with his, teeth grazing your bottom lip as he pulls back. “How can I deny you when you ask so nicely?”
You smile up at him, your hands reaching toward his belt buckle. “May I, sir?”
He grants permission and you drop to your knees in front of him, making quick work of releasing his erection. You admire his length for a moment as you gingerly wrap a hand around him. The length and girth are impressive, the head an angry red that lets you know just how eager he is. As much as you need him, he needs you. You stroke his member a few times before dipping down to run the tip of your tongue along a particularly prominent vein, lifting your other hand to press gently against his slit.
Rafael groans as you sink your mouth down around him, taking as much of him as you can. You bob your head a few times, letting your hand drop down to fondle his balls.
“Fuck- angel, you’re so good for me,” his fingers tangle in your hair close to your scalp as you hum around him, the vibrations causing his hips to buck forward. The tip of his dick brushes the back of your throat and you nearly gag before pulling most of the way off of him.
“You’re wonderful at this, darling,” he murmurs, guiding you to stand in front of him. Two fingers run through your wetness and he holds them up to examine them in the light. “But I think your dripping little cunt is probably more than ready to be filled, isn’t it?”
“Yes please, sir,” you say a bit too eagerly, causing him to chuckle.
Rafael moves the fingers covered in your juices toward your mouth and you part your lips, sucking greedily at his digits. “Such a good girl,” he praises as he tugs your panties to the side and lines himself up with your entrance, bottoming out while you whimper around his fingers. The hand that isn’t in your mouth grasps onto your hip.
There isn’t much of an adjustment period at all as he begins to thrust into you at a relentless pace, a soft moan falling from his lips. He shifts his hand from your hip, guiding it over your ass, and down the back of your thigh, lifting your leg to hitch around his hip. The new position allows for deeper penetration and you whine loudly before his fingers wrench your jaw open, pressing down against your tongue.
“Be quiet,” Rafa scolds. “We may be the only people in this part of the room, but there could still be people around, angel.”
When his fingers move you feel the slickness of your saliva on your chin and you blink rapidly, making a small noise at the back of your throat as an apology. He pulls nearly all the way out before slamming back into you, the sound of your skin slapping together ringing in your ears.
Rafa reaches between the two of you to rub quick circles against your swollen clit, and your second climax begins to form in the pit of your abdomen. His pace falters, and you know he’s just as close as you are.
“Need you to come with me, angel,” he groans lightly. “Do you think you can do that for me?”
You make a noise of affirmation, your hips raising to meet his thrusts. The thumb on your bundle of nerves begins to move at a frantic pace and his breathing, as well as your own, becomes irregular.
“Come,” he instructs, voice low, and your eyes clench shut as your second orgasm racks your body. He buries his face in your neck and comes with a muffled grunt, continuing to fuck you through your highs. Something in your brain tells your hands reach out for the fabric of his shirt, scrabbling for something to hold onto just incase you begin to truly fall off the edge of the earth.
Rafael’s forehead rests against yours, his hands finding your waist as you both wait for your erratic breathing to even out.
“Fuck,” you whisper, a short laugh tumbling from your lips.
“We just did,” he smirks at you.
“Okay, smart ass,” you roll your eyes, straightening your spine. “Oh, shit- Ava’s still out there waiting for me.”
His eyes widen for a second before he reaches behind you, grabbing something from the shelf. “Good thing the rare book room has Russian literature, isn’t it?” He holds a novel in front of your face.
You snort and snatch the book away from him, abruptly turning to walk away.
“See you later?” Rafa calls after you.
“Yes, sir,” you call back teasingly over your shoulder.
---
“Holla ‘we want prenup, we want prenup,’” you shout along to the music, flouncing a bit on your way to your closet. You sway slightly to the beat as you mouth the words to yourself, flicking through your clothes for something to wear. You pull a dark green top off the rack, pondering the outfit options. It would look perfect tucked into the very 90s denim skirt you had picked out, but there’s a slight issue. If you wear this shirt, there’s no possible way to wear a bra. The fabric of the back of the shirt scoops down low, the upper edge resting just below your waist.
You shrug, tossing the shirt on anyway. Glancing in the mirror, you notice that through the tight fabric, if a cold breeze hits your chest just right…
But they're just nipples, you have to remind yourself. Everyone has them, and you shouldn't have to sacrifice a cute outfit for fear of your nipples showing through the fabric.
The strap of your bag digs into your shoulder as you head out the door, an abundance of novels stuffed into it along with your laptop. It’s the second last day of your class with Rafa, and everyone who hadn't presented their final project had to make it through the presentation today.
You make it to the small lecture hall with five minutes to spare and settle into your seat in the second row, pulling out your laptop. Logging in to your university email, you pull up the presentation you had put together and click through, making sure you’ve included all the information you wanted to. You’re quickly absorbed back into your work, only focusing back on the present when you hear your name being called.
“[Y/N],” Rafael says sternly, crossing his arms over his chest. “If you’re ready to rejoin us, Stephen is prepared to tell us about his project.”
A blush colors your cheeks at his admonishment as the class stares at you and you ease your laptop closed, muttering an apology.
As Stephen begins to talk you prop your chin on your hand, staring at him blankly. He’s talking about his personal process for character development when your phone vibrates lightly in your lap.
‘No bra today, hm? Any specific reason for that, my angel?’
Your gaze drifts from Stephen to behind him, where Rafa is seated behind his desk. His disposition is entirely nonchalant. If you hadn’t just received a text from him, you would have no idea he wasn’t paying full attention to Stephen’s speaking.
The back of my shirt is fairly low cut, I just didn’t want my bra to show.
‘So you had no ulterior motive, then? No thought of what coming to class braless and sitting in front of me with your nipples straining against your shirt might do to me?’
You try to glance down at your chest as discreetly as possible, aiming to avoid bringing attention to yourself. He hadn’t been exaggerating, you quickly find out. The residual blush on your cheeks burns back to life, more intense than before as you compose a response.
It hadn’t crossed my mind, sir. Does it do something to you?
‘Well I’m going to have to grade Stephen’s presentation based solely on a guess because I can’t focus on anything but you. Yeah, I think it’s safe to say it does something to me.’
So...I probably shouldn’t mention that I’m also not wearing panties, then. Because that would be less than helpful in this situation.
‘Fuck, are you kidding me? It is entirely unfair how hot you are, do you know that?’
I could always stop. Maybe start wearing frumpy turtlenecks if that would make it better.
‘You’d still be thoroughly alluring, I’m sure.’
Is that so? You really find me attractive enough that nothing I could wear would be a problem?
‘I’d still want to fuck you senseless regardless, but if we’re being honest I’d prefer you wearing nothing.’
The class claps politely as Stephen heads back to his seat and you swallow harshly, attempting to ignore your growing arousal.
“[Y/N],” Rafa calls from behind his desk. Your eyes shoot up to him as you tuck your phone into the back pocket of your skirt.
“Yes?” You run a hand through your hair gently as you strive to keep your voice level.
“You’re up,” he motions to the front of the room.
You clear your throat as you stand, slowly making your way to the computer hooked up to the projector. You log into your account and pull up your project, stepping back to begin.
You breeze through the presentation easily, having prepared extensively for the occasion. The journey back to your seat is accompanied by a soundtrack of gracious applause.
By the time the last person is standing in front of the class, talking about their project, your wetness has started trickling down your thighs. Rafael has been sending you sexts quite consistently, and you’re nearly certain you’ll have a spot on your skirt from your dripping desire.
You stretch slightly to ease some tension in your back as your classmate moves back to her seat. You hadn’t thought twice about the action, but when your eyes meet Rafa’s you know immediately that you should have.
His glance flits from your breasts back to the rest of the class.
“More fantastic work from all of you. You’re dismissed, I’ll see you all on Friday,” he waves a hand toward the door as people begin to gather their things and filter out.
“[Y/N], please stay after class. I’d like to talk with you about the quality of your work,” Rafa’s stare is severe as your classmates titter about his statement.
When everyone has exited the room, Rafa moves to close the door and pull the shade. The click of the lock rings out in the otherwise empty lecture hall.
“So you thought you could tease me,” he says, moving around the front of the desk and leaning back against it. “I didn’t mean to, sir-” You start to explain, but he cuts you off.
“Bullshit. Maybe at first you didn’t. That’s believable,” he allows, tilting his head a bit. “It’s possible you put on your outfit today without thinking. But the glances, the stretches, the responses to my sexts...You meant to do that. You meant to tease me while I was trying to do my job.”
“I’m sorry, sir,” you whisper, eyes dropping to the floor.
“You should be,” he deadpans. “Now, do you want to make it up to me, angel?”
“I do, sir,” you barely even realize when your head begins to nod. “I want to make it up to you, I want to prove I’m still your good girl.”
“Get over here, then. Crawl. On your hands and knees, like the docile little slut you are.”
You scramble over to him, leaning back on your knees to look up at him when you arrive at his feet.
“I think the most reasonable way to punish you…” he trails off, heading behind his desk and rooting through a drawer. “Is with this.” Rafa holds a ruler out toward you.
“Anything, sir,” you murmur. “Anything you think is necessary to atone for my bad behavior.”
“Stand and bend over the desk,” he commands.
His hands tug your skirt up over your hips once you’re in position, and you feel the wood of the ruler run gently over the left side of your ass.
“You’re going to count and thank me while I strike your ass five times, does that sound fair angel?”
“Yes, sir,” you say quietly, letting your head rest against the surface of the desk.
“And what’s your safe word if you need me to stop?” He trails a hand gently over the small of your back.
“Hemingway.”
“Good girl,” he praises before slapping the ruler against you.
“One,” you gasp, your head lifting from the desk. “Thank you, sir.”
The ruler strikes again on the other side of your ass and your fingers search blindly for purchase.
“Two, thank you, sir.”
The third impact is harder, your knuckles turning white as you grip desperately to the edge of the desk.
“Th-three, thank you, sir,” you stutter as your eyes drift closed.
By the fifth blow you can feel a trail of your juices running down each of your thighs. Your eyes are still closed, your cheek pressed against the hard surface, overheated skin pressed against the cool stone of the desktop.
Rafa rubs over your entrance teasingly, reveling in your lust. “Oh, look at that,” he says smugly, effortlessly sliding two fingers into your slickness. “Being punished made you so wet, didn’t it angel?”
“Yes, sir,” you whine, rutting back, desperate for more contact. You know the move is risky considering part of his dominance is in deciding when you receive pleasure and how much you receive, but you can’t help yourself.
Thankfully, he lets it slide and scissors his digits inside of you without another word. You whimper, feeling the stretch.
There’s a series of three sharp knocks on the door.
“Professor Casal?” A woman’s voice sounds from outside.
“Shit,” Rafa mutters. “Uh- here, under the desk,” he guides you gently, tugging your skirt back down and pressing a kiss to your temple as you settle. You hear the soles of his shoes tapping on the tile floor as he runs over to answer the door.
“Hi, sorry if I’m interrupting,” you hear clicking of heels as her voice drifts closer.
“No, of course not, Kate,” Rafael covers smoothly. “What can I do for you?” He hastens back to the desk and sits down, blocking you against any possible threat of being seen.
“I just had a question about what we’ll be doing on Friday, because I might not be able to make it to class.”
The shadow of her feet breaks through the small sliver of light pouring under the front edge of the desk.
“Well, there’s the final quiz, which is short enough that if you have a half hour sometime before class you could just drop by and take it then…”
You stop focusing on their words, instead inching forward toward Rafa’s legs. You reach out, palming him through his grey slacks. You hear his voice falter briefly before he resumes talking, a satisfied smirk tugging at your lips.
You quickly undo his belt and unzip his pants, taking care to be extra quiet so Kate doesn’t suspect anything. His half-hard cock bulges in his boxers as you release it from the fabric, pumping your hand down his length a few times.
Rafael’s voice stops and Kate’s picks up where he left off, none the wiser. You wrap your lips around him and start sucking him off, a giddy feeling of pride bubbling in your chest as you hear him stammer out a reply.
One hand continuing to stroke his shaft, you lean your head down to draw one of his balls into your mouth, flicking your tongue delicately over the skin before switching to the other. You pull back to swallow him down again, angling your head so that his entire length has room to fit inside your mouth.
There’s a subtle straining in his voice as you feel one of his hands sneak under the desk to fist in your hair, yanking severely at the root. As you bob around him, you hear the sound of Kate’s retreating footsteps and the door closing.
“Fuck, [Y/N],” Rafael moans, pushing his chair back and allowing you to pop out from under the desk. “You’re so fucking good at that.”
You give him a soft smile as you take him in your mouth again, peering up at him through your lashes.
His hips stutter forward shallowly as his grip in your hair tightens. “Need to fuck your mouth, angel,” he pants. “Is that okay with you?”
You nod slightly, fluttering your lashes at him as he sighs in relief.
Rafa begins to thrust smoothly into your mouth, slowly at first to get you comfortable with the motion. You reach forward to rest your hands on his knees, steadying yourself as he picks up the pace.
The noise of his subdued grunts is the only sound you’re focused on, listening intently as he gets closer to his orgasm.
He gathers momentum, fucking rapidly into your mouth. Tears prickle at the inner corners of your eyes as saliva dribbles from the corners of your mouth.
“So good, fuck, so good,” he babbles. “So messy, such a good little slut for me.”
Rafael’s movements fluctuate unevenly and he lurches forward one final time, his orgasm spilling directly down your throat. He murmurs your name over and over, treating the syllables as a mantra while he comes down from his high.
His hands hook under your arms and he hauls you into his lap. He cups your face, his thumbs brushing against your cheekbones.
“You were so good for me, angel. You’re always so good for me,” Rafa leans forward and lands a short peck to the tip of your nose.
You hum lightly, wrapping your arms around his waist and settling into his chest.
“Was that okay for you?” He asks quietly, rubbing soothing circles against your back. “That wasn’t too much?”
“It was perfect,” you murmur as you make your way out of subspace. “It always is with you.”
Rafael smiles, locking his hands together behind your back in an embrace.
“Fuck,” you laugh lightly, your voice closer to your normal tone but a bit hoarse from your activities. “That was so amazing.”
“Mm,” he leans down to press a sweet kiss to your lips. “You’re amazing.”

TIFF 2019: PR Maven Natasha Koifman’s Diary From the Festival’s Opening Weekend
Natasha Koifman is a woman who thrives on a busy schedule. When she’s not planning and executing game-changing campaigns with clients such as Swarovski, Aveeno and Mountain Equipment Co-op, she’s a key player during the Toronto International Film Festival and has been for over two decades. As founder of the Toronto, New York and Los Angeles-based agency NKPR, Koifman hosts highly-anticipated events such as the NKPR Annual Film Festival Countdown, IT House x Producers Ball (where the celebrity portrait studio in partnership with Rolling Stone is housed), Producers Ball Gala and the annual Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) Festival Gala. “There is something about the atmosphere during TIFF in Toronto, it turns into Hollywood North and the city becomes electric,” she says.
We caught up with Koifman to get a behind-the-scenes look at her hectic schedule during the jam-packed opening weekend of TIFF.
Thursday, September 5
5am: I always make sure I wake up early every morning – especially on the opening day of our IT House x Producers Ball lounge where we have over 150 media/talent coming through the space. I like to ground myself with a cup of coffee, cuddle up with my dog Ko-D (#koddog) and take a few moments of solitude to get ready for the day. Jukka Suutari arrives around 5.30am to help me prep my look for the day – he always knows how to get my hair and makeup just right for a day full of interviews and photos. Some of my favourite products include my favourite Lise Watier Twist & Sharp Eye Stylo – with no sharpener needed it’s easy to take with me everywhere for quick touch-ups!
7.30am: Arrive at the NKPR IT House x Producers Ball lounge this year held at The Purman on Adelaide Street West, just steps away from the Bell Lightbox and all of the TIFF action.

It’s move in day!! We are so excited to call @the_purman home for the next week 🖤 You’ll find us in the centre of all of the festival action from Thursday to Sunday for #NKPRIT19 🎬 🎉 We will have activations by @swarovski, @ogx_beauty, @bobbibrown, @houndsvodka and more. @rollingstone will be at the helm of our portrait studio 📸 And, we will also be hosting a selection of awesome industry panels (check out our stories for info on how to get tickets)! 8am – 2pm: Drew Scott (who with his brother, Jonathan Scott, co-created the IT House x Producers Ball with me) and I kick-off media day with a packed scheduled of broadcast interviews speaking to everything TIFF – from our IT House to celeb-spotting to the hottest spots to visit in Toronto during the festival. Beyond that, each day we hosted panels with industry leaders, film experts and global changemakers where the public could come experience the space and learn something new! To launch our new ShopNK – a socially conscious, curated e-commerce fashion, beauty and entertainment site – we also created a pop-up shop where guests (like Priyanka Chopra!) could shop for a cause.

What a week this has been! Thank you all for your incredible and generous support for #ShopNK🖤. One of the many highlights since our launch was when @PriyankaChopra stopped by our pop-up at the IT House. She fell in love with the @linethelabel Oversized Scarf, the Burn Brightly Match Bottle, @bythenamesake Leather Pouch…as well as her favourite product of Drop001 – the Leather and Lace Scented Candle! She even picked up an extra for her husband @nickjonas! 🥰 But, the best part of all is that @Girls.20 benefitted from all of Priyanka’s favourite things with a portion of the proceeds going to charity! 👏🏻👏🏻 #NKPRIT19

4pm: Many people don’t know this about me, but I’m an introvert so I head home to make sure I get some time to myself before I get ready for an evening full of events!
8pm: My husband Anthony Mantella and I head to Toronto Life x FASHION’s Best Dressed event. My outfit for the evening was a Chloé tuxedo, YSL shoes and an incredible Tarot Magic pendant from Swarovski.

The perfect suit can take you from day ▶️ to a party 🥳 With a few adjustments of course…in comes a little sparkle from @Swarovski 💁🏻‍♀️ This Tarot Magic Pendant is one of my favourite new pieces, and will add the perfect amount of glam to tonight’s look✨ So glad to have #Swarovski as our official jewelry partner for the It House x Producers ball this year 🖤 I’m so happy because for the next few days I feel like I have a personal jewelry chest to pull from 🙊🙊🙊#Swarovski #NKAllBlackEverything #NKPRIT19 #OOTN . . . #TIFF #TIFF19 #Fashion #Style #Chloe #YSL #SaintLaurent #SparkDelight #Event #Party #Toronto #TorontoLife #The6ix #POTD #Instagood #Suit #Pantsuit #FilmFestival #FestivalSeason #Cinema #Thursday #Necklace

7am: Only a day away from the APJ Festival Gala, I’m in the kitchen with renowned Chef David Adjey at the Windsor Arms Hotel to decide on final touches for the Haitian-inspired menu.
View this post on Instagram
Cooking for a cause! 🍽 Renowned Chef David Adjey of the @windsorarms hotel will be welcoming the talented Haitian Chef @ChefPaulToussaint, together they will create a one-of-a-kind Haitian menu for this year’s @ArtistsForPeace Gala. The collaboration between these two chefs will create a meaningful and memorable culinary experience. Haitian cuisine is rooted in the island’s history, prepared using a merging of diverse culinary styles, and it is infused with bold, soulful flavours. We just did a tasting with David last night and WOW! The guests are in for a real treat! 😄 I want to thank George Friedman of the @windsorarms hotel for making all of this possible and for creating the most special and authentic evening for us. 1pm: There’s a lot to prepare for this star-studded event. Members of the NKPR team – the hardest working and smartest pros in the industry – and myself are onsite for meetings, last-minute décor reviews, live performance scheduling, speech writing and finalizing seating plans for the evening. This event is always one of my favourites during TIFF! APJ is an organization that provides life-changing educational opportunities for youth in Haiti. Over the past 11 years, the organization has raised over $32 million and built the first free high school in Port Au Prince that has provided over 3,500 students with an education that they otherwise would never have received. I have been involved in this organization since the beginning and it is something that is near and dear to my heart!
5pm: After a day of planning, I head home to get ready for our annual Producers Ball Gala at the IT House, co-hosted by Drew, Jonathan and myself. For tonight’s look I’ve chosen a sheer Prada duster lined with feathers. I’m obsessed with the feather trend right now.

8pm: We arrive at the Producers Ball red carpet where the team is waiting alongside a number of cameras and media to interview notable attendees including Amanda Brugel, Jann Arden, Arlene Dickinson, Sean Paul, Yannick and Shantelle Bisson and more. This event hosts over 300 industry leaders from talent to producers, we served custom Hounds Vodka cocktails, had an incredible neon photo wall by Swarovski and in true NKPR fashion, had savoury snacks like McDonald’s passed around the entire night. The highlight of the evening was the karaoke performances by some of the guests including Drew and Jonathan Scott and Kreesha Turner – it was something I will never forget!
12am: Anthony and I have a tradition – our annual #ProducersBall kiss.

12pm: The day is finally here – the 11th annual APJ Festival Gala this year presented by Labatt Breweries of Canada! The NKPR team arrives for the final site visit at the Windsor Arms Hotel and to get ready for our busiest red carpet of the season! It may look glamorous (and it is) but behind-the-scenes the red carpet takes months of planning – from confirming media and cameras to making sure everyone’s arrival times are carefully planned.

BMW’s i8 Roadster Matches Your Mood at the Flick of a Switch
Put the spec panels away. On paper, you cannot compare the BMW i8 roadster plug-in hybrid with any other sporting automobile. By numbers alone, it can’t keep up. It’s not the fastest, the most economical, the longest of range, or, at a starting price of $164,295, anywhere close to being the most affordable. But never mind those pesky numbers. Because what the i8 roadster offers is a driving experience unlike almost anything else on the road, a sublime mixture of luxury, performance, and 21st-century green tech—all wrapped in a package that swivels heads and shocks the senses like a Blue Angels jet making a sneak pass.
The big news for 2019 is a slight increase in total powertrain output—to 369 horsepower—and the availability of that can’t-miss power-folding soft top. The fabric roof whirs away into the void where the coupe version offers two jump seats, but in practice the i8 has always been a two-seater. Still, the convertible version dispenses with what little practicality the coupe offers; there’s a very small cargo bin behind the mid-mounted engine, but now the luggage space afforded by the “rear seats” is gone. Frankly, I doubt anyone interested in a car like this will care. The pleasures of driving in the open air far outweigh the loss of a little storage room.
Lowering the lid requires nothing more than activating a switch in the center console; the roof hides away under its bonnet in about 15 seconds. The side windows don’t retract fully—due to the design constraints of the edgy, wing-like doors, a small curve of glass peeks out—but it’s not something you notice from behind the wheel. Instead, the sun floods in, the passing air tugs at your sunglasses, the hybrid powertrain’s sounds amplify. Wind buffeting, even at speed, is minimal. The i8 feels made to be a convertible.
What I’ve always loved most about the i8 are its multiple personalities. In its Comfort or Eco Pro modes (selectable via a switch to the left of the gear lever), the i8 operates by combining electric and gas power as needed. If the battery is sufficiently charged, the car will run mostly on electricity only, starting the gas engine only when charging is required or when driving at highway speeds for a while. Press the eDrive button, though, and now you’re piloting a full-on electric car (the gas engine will light only if you mat the accelerator pedal to the floor). With a full charge, the i8 roadster will glide along this way for 15 to 18 miles or so—not especially impressive given the 200-plus-mile range of many of today’s EVs, but plenty if you’re just scooting around the city for a day running errands. It’s my favorite way to operate the car, as it’s so quiet, so silken, and possessed of so much effortless torque. It’s your own magic carpet. When the time comes, using the industry-standard J1772 plug at any charge station, the i8 can be fully recharged in as little as three hours.
But there’s yet another driving option. Move the shift lever to the left and into Sport mode, and the gas engine never turns off. Not only does this improve acceleration (BMW claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds for the roadster), it also quickly recharges the battery. Move the lever again into manual-shift mode, and now you’re driving the i8 at its sportiest. The head-up display fills with a large tachometer, the gearbox changes gears only at your bidding via the paddles or lever, and the powertrain charges along with a brio you simply wouldn’t expect given the “mere” 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder at its heart. All four wheels are being supplied with torque, so the i8 never wants for traction; it slingshots forward, perhaps not like a Lamborghini Huracán, but with plenty of pace nonetheless.
I hurled the i8 roadster through the mountains around Malibu, enjoying the car’s excellent handling poise and the responsive (if light) steering feel. Then a blanket of fog crept in and cut the forward view to maybe 10 yards, at which point I simply turned around at the top of the hill and conducted a little experiment. The battery showed one mile of range. Without touching the accelerator, I let the i8 coast all the way down to the Pacific Coast Highway—braking only occasionally, but always letting the regen system do its thing. At the bottom of the hill, I now had five miles of range on the battery. I slipped into eDrive and flew along the foggy coast as quietly as the clouds around me, the ride supple and smooth.
You lack for nothing in the i8 Roadster. Standard equipment includes heated and ventilated leather seats, carbon-fiber trim, 20-inch wheels, a great Harman/Kardon premium audio system, an 8.8-inch high-resolution touchscreen connected to BMW’s latest iDrive 6.0 interface, and on and on. The car is supremely comfortable and stylish as hell. At night, the blue accent lighting makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into a hip nightclub—or landed on the pad from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The i8’s singular appeal is that it can be the sports car you want it to be at the flick of a switch, and now with the flick of another switch, you can drive an open-air droptop, too. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the replacement for the i8—which will be a more powerful, expensive, and exclusive supercar—changes color on demand.

As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community. Barry’s victory was short-lived, however, as an unbalanced Speed Force began to wreak havoc on Central City, forcing Barry to sacrifice himself for the greater good. With The Fastest Man Alive now trapped inside an extra-dimensional energy, and unknown dangers lurking in the shadows, it will be up to Team Flash to free Barry from his own personal Hell. Join cast members Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Keiynan Lonsdale and producers of The CW’s highest-rated series at their annual Comic-Con panel, and be among the first to find out where things will pick up when season four returns this fall. 5:50–6:30 p.m. Arrow Special Video Presentation and Q&A — With the future of the team left hanging in the balance, Arrow gave new definition to the phrase “blowing up the show.” The emotional showdown between Oliver Queen and Adrian Chase was the perfect conclusion to a stellar fifth season of The CW’s gritty DC Super Hero series. Now, the focus shifts to uncovering the fate of each and every member of Team Arrow. Could anyone have possibly survived an island-wide explosion, or has the book closed on them, as it has on Oliver’s five-year flashback story? Returning to San Diego Comic-Con for a sixth consecutive year, cast members Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Willa Holland, Emily Bett Rickards, Paul Blackthorne, Katie Cassidy, Echo Kellum, Juliana Harkavy, Rick Gonzalez and producers will be on-hand for an eye-opening conversation about the upcoming season.
