Turning off Discord's New Mobile Layout [OUTDATED]

EDIT (Oct 22/2023): This was originally posted on Sept 8/23 and since then there are some people saying that the option to turn off the layout is no longer there. Currently I no longer have the option to turn the new layout back on so I'm not entirely sure where Discord is going with this. I still encourage everyone to leave Discord feedback regarding their opinions about the layout. (end edit).

EDIT (Dec 6/2023): Discord has started rolling out this new mobile layout permanently along with some other changes (such as adding the 'Midnight' theme for OLED screens, though how it's different compared to the previous OLED theme is unclear). The changes are discussed in this blog post as well as this YouTube video. Discord has acknowledged on Twitter that the new layout will "take some getting used to" but that the original mobile layout is no longer available.

As turning off this feature is no longer possible I have disabled reblogs on this post.

If you do not want this new update, and have not received it yet, you may need to consider disabling auto-updates in your app/playstore. For those already affected, some people have suggested that downloading an APK of an older version to get around this but I don't know how that works or how to do that so please don't ask me.

If you have any thoughts on this layout change I recommend sending them through Discord's Feedback forum as there is nothing that I personally can do about it.

In case anyone else gets stuck with this garbage update, here's how you can turn it off:

In the bottom right corner there is now a section labelled "You".

Tap the "You" button to open the tab. This should bring up your Discord profile. In the top right corner there should be a little gear button for your Settings.

Tap on this to open the Settings up. You will need to navigate to your "Appearance" settings. Now there are actually two ways to do this now.

As normal you can scroll down to the Appearance section of the Settings:

Or you can utilise one of the actually useful things included in this update: The search bar. Yes, with the new layout you can type in the setting you're looking for instead of scrolling through them all.

Once you open up your Appearance settings you will need to scroll down until you find the section for the New Layout.

Tap on it to disable it and viola! You should be back to the old (and, in my honest opinion, more usable) layout. After turning it off you will be prompted to leave some feedback regarding your experience with the new layout, do with that what you will.

my life has been greatly improved after i did this and i want to help my fellow mobile warriors, but there are no full clear tutorials on it out there, so im making my own

under the cut there'll be an overly extensive but hopefully helpful tutorial on how to use revanced (of youtube revanced fame) to get a patched version of the tumblr mobile app which can reverse annoying UI changes, get prev tags back, and get rid of tumblr live permanently

first of all, this only works on android. sorry. but that said here we go

firstly go on the play store and turn off Play Protect. you'll generally need to turn off/ignore any safety checks you get, and allow to "download from unverified sources" (dw this process is safe, you can turn these back on after you're done)

uninstall the tumblr app you currently have on your phone (the one from the play store)

download Vanced MicroG and ReVanced Manager. install both. ReVanced Manager will become an app you'll need to use for this

go to this link. generally youre supposed to be careful when downloading apks off the internet, but i can testify the ones from apkmirror are safe

now this is where the magic happens. apkmirror has the apks for ALL versions of the tumblr app, from the most recent one as far back as 2015

this is how you can reverse any changes to the tumblr app you dont like, simply get an apk from before the change was made

the one im currently using is v29.1.1.100

pros of this one:

- the old image viewer (you can click on images to zoom in without the weird transparent background and scrolling taking you to unrelated posts)

- prev tags (aka you can click on a post or a reblog to be taken directly to that version of the post or the reblog instead of just going to the top of op's blog)

- general reversal of recent UI changes, like the DM redesign and the update that made everything smaller and round

having chosen an apk, download it. i heard some people say you should only download and not install it right away, but mine only worked when i had it installed, so it might depend for you

now go to the ReVanced Manager app you downloaded earlier

go to the Patcher tab, and there click on Select and application, there you can select the tumblr apk you just downloaded

there you can see the available patches, simply click on patch and wait until its done

i believe if you did not need to install your apk earlier you can just click "install" and install the patched version right away.

but for me, since i had to install my apk, what i had to do was, once my app was patched, click on the folder icon on the bottom left, save the patched app to my phone files (besides the og one, not replace it), then i went to my file manager, deleted the original apk, THEN installed the revanced version

idk if you'll need to do this but it was a pain for me to figure this out so if it helps someone else 👍

and with that its done! if you manage to install it sucessfully, you can just open the app, log in, and youll see if its working if tumblr live is completely gone and all other changes are applied o7

If you, like me, used the decomytree-site to receive and send messages lately, you've probably also seen the post warning that the site might have nefarious intentions. This is likely correct. When I went to look at my messages today, it told me "Currently, only the app can open messages due to high usage." That is clearly complete bullshit. It's probably self-evident, but DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE APP. This is base level scam stuff: trick people into getting excited about a service, then lock it to only one platform where the user will have to give up some information in order to get what they want.

(Obviously, I can't say with 100% certainty that something sus is afoot, but my warning bells are ringing very loudly. I am leaning towards this being more of an attempt to lure money out of people than an information stealing attempt, but you can never know.)

I took a look at what the app requirements are:

This ain't great for something that allegedly only is for leaving cute messages for other people. I'm looking specifically at the "Data isn't encrypted" part. If you've taken a look at your tree today, you've probably noticed that ads for an AI app have appeared here and there in the UI; this is by the same company behind deco my tree.

Now. If you still want to see your messages, there is the option of running the app in a virtual environment that isolates it from the rest of the device, and thus from the data on it. I think iOS and Android both might have native sandbox environments, but I'm not familiar with them. What I did was download an android emulator to my computer and installed the app there. It's completely separated from the rest of my OS and will cease to exist when I nuke the session after reading and saving all my messages.

The emulator I used is called Bluestacks. It has ads and will take up ca 5GB of space, but it's a reputable emulator, and I've used it before to play android games on my desktop. Once you're in there, you can navigate to your tree in the already existing Chrome browser on the desktop (or home screen, I suppose), and find the link to their help center, where they have a download link for the apk file without needing to go through the Play Store (which you'd have to log in to using a google account). Also a bit suspicious, but handy in this case. I've also included the links above for you to use. Once you've downloaded the .apk the app will open and you'll be able to log in and see your messages.

Side note - if you used a generic password that you use in several other places for this tree, I highly recommend changing it in all other places, especially if you usually combine it with the same email you used for decomytree.

Another fun thing I noticed is that the app refuses to load the earliest three messages on my tree, for whatever reason. But when I navigate back to the website (inside the emulator), it now opens the messages just fine since it can tell I have the app installed. 🙃 The app also continuously displays ads for the same AI app mentioned above, trying to trick you into clicking on them when you're swiping through your messages. It also does this fun thing:

Yeah. Bypassable, but highly irritating, and guaranteed to catch at least some poor people that don't know what to click on to make it go away.

TL;DR: don't download the app directly to your phone, use a sandbox to isolate it to see your messages, and then ask it to delete your account (and hope that it works, because so far the so-called verification code has failed to appear in my inbox). And change your password if you've used the same one elsewhere on the internet.

since youtube vance is no longer maintained and youtube is cracking down on adblockers here is how to download youtube revanced which has the best options for customising youtube features; including removing youtube shorts popups, sponsorship segments in videos, hiding unused buttons, bringing back dislikes, and more! this guide is for android only. sorry apple users idk how to help you. your device doesn't have to be rooted. even if it is, you should still be able to follow this guide. if you have youtube vanced installed, revanced shouldn't clash, so you don't have to uninstall it if you don't want to.

installation guide:

1. download all 3:

i. microg (this will let you log into your youtube account) [apk mirror] (scroll past description, download the latest one)

ii. revanced manager apk [github] (select the latest release, scroll to the bottom in assets, install the .apk file)

iii. latest youtube apk [apk mirror]

2. open revanced manager

3. select in this order: "patcher" -> "select an application" -> "storage" (note: if your phone asks you to let the app have storage access, say yes)

4. select the youtube apk you downloaded

7. wait as it intialises youtube revanced. when it's done select "install" (note: if your phone gives you a warning that the app is blocked, select: "more details" -> "install anyway")

8. if this worked, you should have youtube revanced installed, and you can log in like normal. if this didn't work, read the next part.

(under the read more are troubleshooting solutions + other alternative apps)

issue a) if the botom right now says "open"

1. select: 3 dots on the top right -> "export apk"

2. save it

3. open whatever file browsing app you use (most phones should have a default one that comes pre-installed called something like "files" or "my files". if you don't have one, you can go to the play store and search "files" and pick one. if you aren't sure, i use "files by google")

4. find the exported file and install it (it will be called something like "youtube-revanced-versionnumber.apk")

5. if this worked, you should have youtube revanced installed, and you can log in like normal. if this didn't work, you can read the next part.

issue b) can't build or install youtube revanced with no option to export

1. something may have gone wrong with the file installation at some point, so try a clean start. to do this, uninstall:

i. revanced manager

ii. youtube revanced

iii. microg

iv. (optional) disable/uninstall the default youtube app

2. follow guide from step 1 again, hopefully it works. if it's still not working, you can try other alternatives. i've listed some in the next part of this post

alternatives:

libretube, newpipe, songtube, vuetube, astron, puretuber

i haven't used any of these personally, but i haven't seen any problems with them. let me know if there are and i'll remove it from the list.

you can also use youtube through your web browser with adblock add-ons. i'm not sure whether youtube has affected their mobile site though. with the firefox app you can use ublock origins (for ads) + youtube high definition (for general quality fixes)

(If I made any typos, which is about 95% likely, pls accept my apologies) FOR ANYONE COMING HERE LOOKING TO MOD s6 PLEASE GO HERE FOR THE WORKAROUND

Strap yourselves in, this will be lengthy. You may cry, you may want to punch something, but trust me it’s worth it 😭 I’ve tried to dumb this down as much as I can so you don’t struggle as much as me, so here we go! Many thanks to @oliverslove for writing out exactly how to do the emulator method using Bluestacks, just answering my 50,000 questions and being patient with me 💛💛

First up, do you want your mod on:

- an Android - head to this post

- an Apple device BUT you also have an android device to move the game from eg an Android tablet to an iPhone - also head to this post

- an Apple device and ONLY have Apple portable devices but you do have a PC to move the game from (Start at Step 1 of this post)

- only Apple devices. No PC. No Android devices. I’m sorry, loves but this method won’t work for you at all!😭😭😭

IPHONE USERS WITH ONLY APPLE PORTABLE DEVICES BUT ACCESS TO A PC:

1. Download Bluestacks onto your PC here

2. Give it a little setup. Fairly straight forward but here’s a guide for it too:

3. After it’s all set up, head here

4. Download the most recent version of the mod from ModYolo. It’s going to basically download a whole new app, that’s how it works on Android. You’re just copying an Android without having an Android, you get me? (ps take a shot for every time I just said Android). So, in case you haven’t guessed already, you will lose ALL progress on BOTH seasons and have to start from scratch.

5. Now you’ve downloaded that, it needs to be installed on Bluestacks. To install it you need to navigate to the toolbar on the right side of the screen and press the small icon saying .APK (this lil guy)⬇️⬇️⬇️

6. That lil icon will make you select exactly what it is you want to Install from your computers files. So find the mod you just downloaded (in most cases this is just in the computer’s Downloads area)

7. This will start the mods download to Bluestacks. Once it’s done, open it up and if it’s been done correctly then you should see the ModYolo notification at the bottom of the loading screen

8. The app will go straight into Season 4 as that’s how the actual app is just hardcoded anyways. But once you create a character you can just go back to the Home Screen and go onto season 5 if you’d rather.

9. So TA-DAH! On the Home Screen you’ll see you have a lot of gems and a blank space for tickets. This is just simply because once the modded app is on your phone the tickets don’t transfer over 😭 So, if you want to abuse unlimited tickets, play any progress you want to on Bluestacks (the computer) first.

10. Time to kiss those LIs goodbye and don’t make Bruno cry on the way out. Save your Bluestacks game to the Cloud (try and keep it to the one on your IPhone to save some time) it might give the choice to keep a Local or Cloud save, just click the one with lots and lots of gems.

11. Next, head over to your Apple device (the one you want to play the game on). No need to get a fancy app or do anything with this one. You’ll just want to load a game save from the Cloud and pick whichever has more gems.

And that, my friends is how you mod your game on Apple. 🤗

I’m about 85% sure you might have to do this again for season 6 as will be a new version of the mod looking at previous versions but I will look into that more and update this post!

hello lais! i was wondering if you could help me with something HSS related and i thought i'd ask because you've archived HSS yourself - do you know if there's any way to see how pairing up the main story characters up via the dating function affects in-story dialogue (if at all?) like... it's something i've read about before on the fandom wiki etc claiming there are slight variations if certain characters are officially dating but not somethng i've been able to test? like e.g. the storyline kind of nudges you certain ways like with autumn/julian/wes love triangle, but what if i paired autumn up with say... nishan, to get really weird. or maybe from back in the day when it was still being updated, i feel like i once saw a post about someone seeing specific dialogue because they'd paired julian and ezra. i guess i'm asking... is it like, actually a thing or not :') and is there a way of opening the game code i guess in order to check?

yes! it’s a thing! from the top of my head i can remember scripting for the mc and most of the main characters (and some all stars, by the end of the game/main plotline), wes/autumn, autumn/julian, sakura/nishan, mia/koh, mia/katherine, wes/ezra, ezra/payton, autumn/koh and kallie/koh. the game nudges towards sakura/wes around level 21, but it’s not something ever scripted (if you have them paired up).

and yes, you can check this by checking the actual text from the quests. you just need to download the .apk in a computer, transform it into a .rar file (by changing the name; make sure to have file extensions toggled on) and then you extract the files. the main quests are all stored in a folder called “assets” and they’re all named following the pattern prim_[#quest]_{namequest].lua. you can also find all of the other assets for the game in this folder, as well as the side, premium, seasonal, etc. quests.

the quests are simple .lua files. you can open them in any text editor that reads the .lua extension (here's a good one, free; browser). once they’re open, navigating them is pretty simple since they are mostly written dialogue with a tag indicating the name of the character and if statements to check some things:

here, co, hss.U is the MC, co, hss.A is Autumn and co, hss.N is Nishan. some other characters have their full names written (wes is "WES"). you may notice a number at the end of most of the sentences. those are the expressions! 1 is happy, 2 is sad, 3 is anger, 4 is shock and 5 is that cute one with the hearts.

now... to check the scripting for the pairings you have to read through the quests. but it's easy to spot. it's always an if statement. here's an example of a scripting between mia and katherine, from 24.4 - katherine's first day:

the game just checks if two characters are dating in your game and adds/switches to the "special" scripted dialogue. if they aren't, the game skips it. it's pretty simple, but it's very neat. you can also just search the tag "(hss.getDatingPartnerReferenceName".

Your first day of Junior Year - yippee - and you started it like any other:

Getting work done, which consisted of the same icebreaker papers like any other classroom, doodling random scribbles in your sketchbook till the clock hit next hour, and passing between hours by blasting sped up tiktok songs through your earbuds because fuck talking to people irl.

Don't get me wrong, you weren't an outcast or anything. Sure, you had interests the popular kids might not have been into (take your embarassing and reawakened FnaF phase last year-) but you were widely liked, if not, then not necessarily disliked, by most of the people in your classes.

This was kind of a given, as you've had school with a good handful of these kids in your previous years.

Take Kendra and her little crew, for example. Kendra, Jeremy and Jase had been found in almost every tech class you took as a kid. (Ez school credits you just worked off instruction books) And ignoring their incessant bickerings amoungst eachother, or the ocassional cocky and narcissisticly snide remarks they'd give you if you asked them for help - they actually quite liked you.

Liked you is a nice way of saying you were an easy target for spreading havoc that wouldn't be traced back to them.

Did you know this? No. But that wasn't your fault, you're just a little optimistic about their underlying evilness that they're surprisingly so good at hiding from faculty.

"Hey, ___!" she would coo at you, "our club is entering an app contest, and we need some people to test it out. Can't make any reviews ourselves since they'd call us out on bias, ya' know?"

- All this to say, you weren't at all suspicious when Kendra walked up to you [Jace in tow and Jeremy nowhere to be seen] with a pleasant smirk amoung her bright blue lips, and a cheery tone to boot.

Now, when you typed "themaincharacter" as your username you weren't necessarily thinking anything cocky, you just thought you were being funny and a little cute. No one should give it a second thought, right? You'd be fine.

You needed a profile picture.

And now you just had to look at the explo- oh what the fuck?

You turned your phone off as you headed out the doors of the school. The battery was getting pretty low anyway. Your guess? Kendra totally gave your phone some virus to get dirt or probably destroy the group of guys you'd just become friends with.

You only had a few hours left before the day ended but it was most likely going to be filled with chores and applications to a part time job now that summer's over - so your schedule was pretty low on free time.

Not to mention now you have to wake up early for your second day of school. Early hours was not something you missed in July.

...All this to say, knowing the person you are, you couldn't risk hopping back in the group chat for the rest of the night. You'd hopped on your phone last year and it would take you till 4 AM before you actually went to bed only to wake up two hours later to get dressed for school.

1. Find an idea

I usually get my ideas from tiktoks or some songs.

I kinda try to fit the song to the character I want in it lmao

2. Download the audio

I’m an android phone user so downloading stuff is really easily.

I usually use YTMP3.com to download my stuff

there is a lot of websites with that link but l usually pick the second or first one

Then insert the audio in Alight Motion. I use Alight Motion a lot since there’s a lot of choices there.

Also I use the APK version so I don’t have to pay for premium features. ALSO THIS IS ON MY PHONE. I use an Ipad to draw….

3. (Optional) Storyboarding

The only animatic I did need to storyboard was Floyd’s little minecraft song angst video LMAOOO:

In my drawing process, it’s kinda easy unless I’m using a bunch of colors.

I also try to change the styles up so you can differeniate the animatics from eachother like how in Jade’s Laufey video, the colors are warm and soon turn pale and cold. And in the To Love a Boy, it’s like pt 2 of Jade’s Laufey video but in MC’s perspective and in which the MC does not return his feelings so the colors aren’t warm as Jade’s perspective.

And then in Azul’s Laufey video, the appearance and color palette’s looks very sweet and valentiney since it’s in the MC’s perspective on having a FAT FUCKING CRUSH on Azul

Epel was the hardest because during that time, I was not that active on TikTok and school took my time so it took a lot of time to gain back the motivation and finish it

ALSO, i literally draw on my Ipad now and I send the pictures to my phone to edit them so it’s an annoying process since I DON’T WANNA PAY FOR ALIGHT MOTION WHEN I CAN GET IT FOR FREE

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT TOOK ME A YEAR?? My “I Wanna Be a Princess!” MUSIC VIDEO… it’s not animatic but that took like a year to finish because I forgot about it but I did so well on it.

I guess the transition that pissed me off the most were the ones in Jade’s Laufey video when it switches from warm to cold and Epel’s MLP video where it switches from silly to dark.

My editing process isn’t that unique. I just insert the song, move the pictures, and done 😭😭😭

It's been, phew. SOMETHING! A few weeks passed since the initial release, and I gotta say it really was stressful. It's a new project, something I've never done, and it just feels so different from the art I usually do. But I'm really really happy with how it's been received. It's by no means a perfect project but it sounds on the whole like you all are enjoying it or if nothing else at least see the potential. Thank you very much for that, and I hope I will make good on that.

So let's get to the most important part here. The android version is out! It's easily been the most requested thing and so here we go. Installing it is pretty simple, just download the .apk file, run it to install and you're good to go. I of course have very limited testing opportunities with just how many different android devices there are, but it ran without any issues for me, and I haven't heard any complaints from my Patrons who had access to it for a little while. So I hope it'll do the same for the vast majority of you.

There isn't anything new to this version. It is the exact same as all the other initial release versions and this update is mostly meant as a bit of a buffer update truth be told.

Just to give a bit of breathing space while keeping the updates rolling and building up the 1-month advance for updates that Patron people get without just leaving you all waiting for updates forever. I invested a lot of time into getting the initial release done, so immediately afterward I needed to get some other work done, just came back from a convention, and most of the work I'm currently doing for the game itself is behind-the-scenes planning. Figuring out characters, thinking about what events or interactions they might have and how their stories interact with each other, and how to best handle it. Of course, I did have certain Ideas and plans for them, but I figured it's best to firm these up before I advance things further from here. Otherwise, I'd just be more prone to having to redirect parts as I figure things out on the go.

But yes, the first official update I guess is out, even if it doesn't contribute anything new yet. But if you are on android then now you can have a peek at this thing, too. I hope you'll enjoy it! :)

Step-By-Step Guide for Installing and Running Android Mobile Apps on any Mac or Windows laptop

A lot of people don't like the latest Duolingo update and want to go back to the old version. This tutorial will also tell you how to run older, "downgraded" versions of apps.

Search apkpure.com for the mobile app you want to install, and download the apk file for the version you want. Older versions will be listed on that particular app's apkpure page, below the "About" section of the page. If you want the old "learning tree" version of Duolingo, you'll need to download version: [5.65.9] NOTE: If that link stops working just try doing a web search for "duolingo apk 5.65.9"

Download and install the Bluestacks android emulator on your laptop: [Bluestacks website]

Open the apk file you downloaded in bluestacks (it should open in bluestacks automatically). This will install it in your android emulator.

Open the app in your emulator. You might get a screen asking you to update to the latest version of the app. Say no.

Congrats. You're running an android mobile app on your laptop!

But wait! Bluestacks isn't compatible with my M1 Mac laptop!

It turns out Bluestacks has yet to come out with a release that's compatible with Mac laptops using the new M1 chip.

Don't despair! There's a workaround.

Search apkpure.com for the mobile app you want to install, and download the apk file for the version you want. (If you want the old "learning tree" version of Duolingo, you'll need to download version [5.65.9])

Download and install Android Studio: [Android Studio website]

When you open the software program you'll get a welcome screen with three buttons labelled [New Project], [Open] and [Get from VCS]. Below those buttons will be a drop down list labeled "More Actions." Go straight to that "More Actions" drop down list, click on it, and select [Virtual Device Manager].

Now that you've opened the Virtual Device Manager, hit the [Create device] button.

Pick a Pixel or Nexus phone as your device. I don't think it really matters which one. I went with the Galaxy Nexus. Once you do that, hit the next button.

You should now have a screen asking you to select a System Image. DO NOT select Tiramisu. That one gave me problems. I went with the S|31|arm64-v8a|Android12.0 release.

Finish creating your device, and it will automatically be added to the Device Manager.

Run your new android phone emulator by hitting the "▶" button in your Device Manager. Your emulator will look exactly like the display screen of whatever phone you chose as your device.

Make sure your emulator has web connectivity. If it's not connecting to the internet, use [this troubleshooting guide] to fix it.

Drag & Drop your downloaded apk file into whatever phone emulator you're running. This will install it.

Open the app.

Congrats. You're running an android mobile app on your laptop!

can i ask what you use to gif?

Full disclosure: I was advised to use Photoshop which I don't because I get lazy about getting on my laptop. I was also advised to use CapCut which I managed to get an apk for but none of the features were working for me.

I'm very sorry to say I've been using canva, downloading them as mp4s, and using online free programmes like ezgif to convert to gif and do other adjustments like cropping and adjusting size for Tumblr (ezgif is definitely the best free programme I could find for this I'll say that much). Canva doesn't have the best options tbh, there isn't even anything to sharpen the video, but it's easy to use mostly and colour adjustments are working well enough for me, and it's easy to just use the same canvas for multiple videos/gifs so I'm sticking with it. Also I'm using the unpaid version but I think the pro stuff has more options also.

I don't know if this will help, but if you have an Android phone some searching on say, APKMirror (as an example), will allow you to find the apk of an older update version of Medibang. From there you uninstall the current version, reinstall the old version using the apk, and you have your app back. I did this with tumblr when it changed the image viewer for some reason.

I have never tried an apk and have reasons to be cautious about download and installing random things off the internet

I'm also not a tech savvy person and really do not want to risk losing anything should I make a mistake.. which knowing myself, may occur. the only person I can "trust" with tech stuff is my dad and he is not a viable option for me.

Currently I am testing having an account on the app rn, I had to verify and set up an account on the website and so far it seems to be far more bearable. Although it DOES say "your "subscription" (???) will soon expire" I didn't subscribe to anything, so I hope that doesn't mean anything unwanted will happen. this is my first time doing this and I really just want to get away from as many ads as possible.

i really am despairing and just hopeless in a way that i genuinely dont think ive been before and its rlly fucking with me. like, by all acounts, i am More supported than i have been before, and thats almost part of the problem? i feel ungrateful for feeling So Bad. i don't do Anything, i dont attend uni, i dont write my essays, i dont have a job, i dont clean my flat, i dont rlly cook a lot. of the things that Have to happen so we can continue to live in this flat, or i can continue to access medical services so my life doesnt get worse: those things are often put off way past the last minute and i need a lot of support to do at all. also, rn my life is mostly just calling A Service TM, getting a bullshit response, complaining, calling again, finally getting through to someone who knows whats going on, complaining, rinse repeat. ITS EXHAUSTING! not only that but sitting every day in bed or at my desk refreshing tumblr or staring at my screen saver thinking to myself 'what am i going to do?' and coming to the conclusion of nothing because i have nothing to do, i enjoy nothing, i want nothing, i cant concentrate long enough on anything or process information well enough to do things Anyway. ykw its not even true i dont Want to do anything. i do. i Want to write my essays, on some level i am genuinely interested in the topics. i just Cant. i want to read. i've been pretty keen on reading complaint by sarah ahmed for a while now or maybe rereading whipping girl or even giving notes on suicide another go? but i cant make myself start because i Know that i wont get far and its so fucking depressing. im getting so high, the come down is genuinely distressing because of how scrambled and disorganised my brain becomes and i become so afraid i will be like that forever. and yet i do it EVERY DAY! im struggling extremely badly with some interpersonal shit that has completely destroyed any self esteem or confidence i had in my appearance and my worth. add onto that that i am a massive Massive financial drain and even if i wasnt our finances are just.. Bad? so i was like, ok, fssw time again, that wont be too bad, i can do that. and then i fucking set up by whore phone and downloaded the grindr apk (and it was fucking horrible and evil to do and i hate that evil horrible useless phone) (also did u know u need to send in id for age verification on google now? 101 internet safety says to not do that are u crazy?) and started getting dms and i wanted to cry i got so overwhelmed. like idk if i can do it, but like.. i kinda gotta? idk man. im trying to see things positively? like, i got the form for the work capability assessment and spent all of yesterday photocopying medical letters which detail diagnoses and assessments and reference hospitilisations, etc but also the dwp are evil so who knows if its enough? im trying to get my pip reevaluated but they havent even sent me the Form for that yet? so again! who! knows! i feel like im in beurocracy hell and i cant leave? my uni are trying to work with me, but multuple medical professionals have told me to interrupt or drop out and like if people who are meant to be like have something in your life to keep you going dont think i can do it, what chance do i have of Actually doing it? i dont know what to do anymore.

You can truly, permanently, delete bloatware off your phone!

It genuinely stresses me out on a spiritual level that so many of you are just walking around with bloatware on your phone that your phone companies have convinced you are “necessary” or can’t actually be deleted (like that fucking netflix app, I’m looking at you), so you just hide it, shove it into a folder and put it out of the way of sight, or the only slightly better, “disable” when it lets you.

You can actually remove those. Not disable, not hide. Full on, straight up delete, removed, disappeared, gone. And no, you don’t need to root or jailbreak your phone to do this! That’s what they want you to think!

You will need a PC, and a your phone > PC cable, but it’s so easy and it works for all modern android phones. I’ve completely emptied my last like, 3 phones of bullshit this way. It’s the first thing I do whenever I get a new phone.

Step 1, install APK Analyzer, or another APK package inspector. This will tell you every single package installed on your phone, down to the system file ones. You’ll need the ones you want to remove, and this will tell you exactly what they are. They’ll be named something like “com.android.google.xxx” Alternatively, you can look up a list online for the obvious ones, like googles.

2. Download and unzip Android Platform tools from the official website on your PC, it doesn’t matter where, anywhere you can easily find it. I’ll put the link here https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools but if you’re safety conscious and don’t click links you can also just search “android platform tools” in an engine.

3. In your phone, go into settings, search for build number, tap it 7 times. After about three, it tells you how many taps away you are from entering “developer mode.” You may have to enter your pin, but developer mode will be enabled.

4. Then in the newly unlocked developer options, turn on “USB debugging.” This effectively allows you to control your phone from your PC once connected, I’m about to tell you exactly how.

5. Connect your phone to your PC. Wait for it to finish making all the annoying connection sounds while it sorts itself out. Hit allow on the options that appear on your phone. Go to the platform-tools folder you just extracted, and in the file browser panel, where it’ll say something like “D:\Users\YourPC\Documents\Phone Hax\platform-tools“, type “cmd” without quotes and hit enter. This opens up the command prompt in this file location, so you don’t need to faff about getting there through the cmd.

6. In the cmd, type in “adb devices” without quotes, hit enter. Your phone model should come up after it throws a bit of a conniption (more annoying sounds), under a named list of “devices attached“ you should see your phone model number, and “device.” This means the computer can see your phone, and they’re ready to communicate. Now type “adb shell” without quotes, hit enter, and you’re ready to start swatting these apps away like flies.

7. Now for the fun part. You can freely go into the APK analyzer app you installed earlier and go dig out all that shit you wish you could banish from your eyesight and one by one start removing them. To do this, type, without quotes, “pm uninstall --user 0“ followed by the package name.

For example, removing GMail would look like this

“pm uninstall --user 0 com.google.android.gm”

Hit enter, it’ll say “Success,” and that’s it. It’s gone. It’s been deleted off your phone. Not disabled, not hidden. Banished. Removed.

When you’re done, just unplug your phone, go back into developer options, unclick debugging mode, turn developer mode off, and voila, your phone is now officially more “yours” than the phone companies would have you believe. Clears space, removes corporate spyware, and take note of how much longer your battery lasts, too!

You’re in more control than you think, these are your phones, make sure they act like it!

Disclaimer!: Be very careful deleting system apps! Don’t do the equivalent of deleting system32 or something. If you’re unsure, look it up, and most things can be redownloaded later if you make a mistake.
