First they give us this wedding shot...
Tumblr media
And now they give us THIS??!? Are they trying to kill me with hope?
TELL ME THIS DOESN’T LOOK LIKE JUNE WALKING DOWN THE AISLE TO NICK 😭😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My heart can’t take it. June had a chance to walk away but, just like Nick, she can’t let go. He thought she would never come back to him but she always does. She goes to him again and again. And he’s always surprised when she does. 😩
When I first saw this kiss in the trailer, I thought something looked different and then I realized it’s because it’s so bright 😆 Is this their first kiss in the daylight? Out in the open? And in front of other people?
This better be intentional foreshadowing of Nick and June’s inevitable future together where they can finally love each other out in the open for forever more or I swear to God I will never forgive this show.
Love never fails ❤️

the handmaid’s tale s3ep12 thoughts
under the cut because spoilers
as soon as eleanor came into june’s room i had a bad feeling for her. I just knew
when june took the tea or whatever into the conference room part of me was hoping nick would be standing there like earlier in the season
it was great to see june be happy even if it was just for a few seconds
okay fred sucks but he’s right about serena
she’s selfish, it’s always about her, etc
she is so fucking delusional too... “my daughter needs me”
bitch... she’s fine
she’s a baby
she doesn’t remember you
she’s happy with luke and moira
what about your meeting with her months ago gave you the idea she needs you??
GOD BLESS MOIRA
MY QUEEN
She said everything that needed to be said and MORE
honestly did not care for Tuello telling moira it was uncalled for but her “fuck you” made up for it
I want Moira yelling at Serena to be projected on my tomb stone
Again in this episode we have two weird tuello kind of flirting with serena moments? I still stand by my prediction that an affair will happen or that something similar will. But I also think tuello could be playing the long game with serena and plans to stab her in the back after gaining her trust. Because in s2 he was literally like “that’s not your baby” and now he’s getting her contraband so and the only thing that really adds up is him playing the good cop role.
Luke punching fred was so goddamn satisfying but DID LUKE GET HIS NOTEBOOK (idk what was in it but seems important)
the social worker telling serena that holly had stranger anxiety bless up. Yvonne’s acting was so good though it’s like she had the desperation for everything to fill into place but because she’s delusional her love for holly was idealized and not actually real. And then the social worker called her out again for calling herself holly’s mom. I could see serena regretting turning fred in when her time with holly ends up not being what she expected
I honestly don’t have a lot of thoughts about eleanor dying or june letting her die.... character wise i feel like eleanor probably would have committed suicide in canada because she wouldnt be able to have the life she wanted. Even though she was the sweetest soul and didnt deserve to die
As for june... I kind of interpreted her kissing eleanor’s head as her actually caring for eleanor and having that thought the she was too fragile to move to canada and death would be kinder to her. But I do think a big part of it was because she felt eleanor was a danger to the plan
just had this thought... but june is kind of treating the plan as a hyperfixation to keep her mind off of everything. I think shes a boss and is doing the plan for the right reasons and that she genuinely does want to get the kids out. But I think she is still slightly suicidal and does not care if she dies. And I think this season has really isolated june especially from nick where nick was normally her emotional crutch and outlet and since she doesn’t have that everything is going to the plan
plus the fact she doesn’t know where hannah is has isolated her as well and taken away a lot of her hope
im not surprised lawrence seems to be moving forward with the plan but i didn’t really understand that sinister look he gave june or the subtitles even said “sinister music” like why did it have to go dark

I wonder if June has lost her fertility with that gunshot wound? If she somehow gets back into Gilead, how would she fare as a Martha?

The Handmaid’s Tale ⇢ Postpartum (2.12)
love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. it does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. love never ends. as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 1 corinthians 13:4-8

And here's what we do. We watch them. The men. We study them. We feed them. We please them. We can make them feel strong or weak. We know them that well. We know their worst nightmares. And, with a bit of practice, that's what we'll become. Nightmares. One day, when we're ready, we're coming for you. Just wait.

Handmaid’s Tale 3x08 Reactions
Heads up: this is an angry post.
And I hope you're angry too because we saw some fucked up shit in this episode and IT IS NOT OKAY.
Clearly, June is losing her shit this season.  And, of course, that's understandable.  That place is a never-ending, living nightmare, and she's also been emotionally alone for much of the season, separated from the love and safety that her relationship with Nick provided.  Which I do think is intentional in showing us what happens when we lose connection and love.
June’s losing her humanity and I empathize with her.  But what is so upsetting is this: it seems the show only wants us to empathize with June and not with the Black handmaid who may also have lost parts of her humanity and is also just trying to survive.  Why are people rooting for June as she goes all mean girls and not the WOC who is also an oppressed victim and is getting bullied by June’s White tribe of women?? These are the responses I've been seeing on Twitter: "Yea, June! Bitch needs to die."
I don't understand why June gets to live and be awful but it is somehow less okay for another woman, especially a WOC, to live and be awful.  Before you go off on me on how race has nothing to do with how viewers are reacting differently to June and OfMatthew, all I ask is this: Talk with a WOC.  Ask her.  And then ask another.  And another.   Because it's POC who get to decide what is racist, not a White person.  Who would you trust more to tell you what's sexist: a woman or a man? If you ask WOC and all of them agree that race is not an issue here, go off on me as much as you want.
The fact is that POC never get as much empathy as a White person does for doing the same things.  We see this all the time in school disciplinary meetings and the court systems.  And the show is perpetuating this in spending more time humanizing and creating empathy for their White women and not their WOC.  Serena - a fucking oppressor who played a hand in creating all of Gilead - gets more empathy than OfMatthew does from the show and many viewers.  How fucked up is that??
What I also don't get this season is if THT wanted to show June slowly lose her mind and her humanity, why on earth did they promote the season to be about RESISTANCE?? Is this what they think Resistance is? Mouthing off.  Staring around angrily.  Because only White people can get away with that shit.  A Black person mouths off at a police office and looks at him menacingly and he literally could get shot.
If they just wanted to show the realism of trauma - fine.  I get and support that.  But don't fucking call what June is doing heroism.  Or bravery.  Or strength.  Or leadership.  Because it's not.  The most brave and sane person in that entire episode was Janine.  She has not lost her humanity, and has empathy for OfMatthew.  Was it right what OfMatthew did? No.  But Janine recognizes she was just listening to Aunt Lydia and trying to survive.  Janine is brave to stand up to her friends, when it could be so easy just to go along with the crowd.  Janine is my hero.  Not June.
I want to stop watching this show.  But the thing is..that doesn't actually solve anything because the point is this treatment of POC is not limited to this show.  It's fucking everywhere.  I can't turn that shit off no matter how tired I get.  It will never turn off unless we talk about race and deal with these things.
I have wondered throughout this season if the show is intentionally being meta and trying to show us what white feminism looks like and how toxic it is, but I admit I only have a tiny sliver of hope.  And even if that does happen and it finally becomes crystal clear, will it be worth the damage they are doing right now? This article speaks to White Feminism in THT better than I ever could. Other random thoughts:
- That backstory for Lydia was so disappointing.  She's a horrible person because she got scorned by a man?? Really? Are we going there? Because that's what makes all women go crazy right? Rejection by a man.  Oh my fucking God.
- Anyone picking up lesbian vibes from Lydia when that mom was putting make up on her? That would make more sense to me than her just being scorned if she has been repressing her own sexual instincts and why she has so much hatred towards "sluts" and "gender traitors."
- OfMatthew's name is Natalie.  We learn this right before she gets shot.  I suppose I should just be grateful that we even learn her name. 😔

the handmaids tale s2ep10 thoughts
under the cut because spoilers
so i genuinely liked this episode
I thought the acting was great all around and there is momentum in the plot finally
i liked that june was still limping in this episode. it was a good minor continuity detail
I love eleanor and june’s friendship. And I think even though june does have her goal to get kids out of gilead she genuinely does care for eleanor
One very telling part of the episode is when eleanor said commander lawrence would deserve to be imprisoned if he escaped gilead. She clearly loves her husband and I interpreted it that she has chosen to stay with him in gilead over going to gilead without him. But she also knows that he’s fucked up royally and has done things that are unforgivable. This show has some characters that seem very back and forth, but I think eleanor is an example of complexity. She sees the situation for what it is
Someone give bradley whitford an emmy for this episode like damn. I was always bored with the lawrence household before because nothing happened but finally lawrence’s character got some range
and we’re back to creepy fred... he literally has no shame and blatantly speaks to june in front of other handmaids. And then when she seems happy with lawrence he comes up with the plan to have her back in dc with him ugh he is so icky
serena was interesting this ep... when she saw june at the inspection she seemed legit concerned like she was in the hospital. And I interpreted the meeting with fred and winslow afterwards that she was still concerned for june’s mental health which is why she slightly protested forcing the ceremony in the lawrence household.
But then at lawrence’s house when she went to hold eleanor’s hand i was hella annoyed because girl.... you cannot bond with a wife who was appalled at doing the ceremony when you literally forced june to be raped when she was already pregnant like fuck off
and then she saw fred going after june again and she clearly was upset by the interaction and then she goes right back to asking about holly. we almost made it a whole episode without serena mentioning getting holly back rip
i got excited when tuello was in the preview (and i still stand by my claims that him and serena are gonna fuck don’t @ me) but it was just his phone that was shown damn it
still like what is tuello going to do... i doubt he would want to send holly back to gilead since he literally told serena in s2 that holly was not hers. The only thing he has offered is freedom for serena because he doesn’t realize she’s *jean ralphio voice* “the WoRsT”
The ceremony scene.... again give bradley whitford an emmy. The way he delivered the “are you going to get in the bed with us too” to his hands shaking about the key to him whispering to eleanor to be quiet. Like wow
Elisabeth did amazing too she also deserves another emmy. She really carried that scene. Like expertly going from calming down eleanor to walking lawrence through the process to shutting down all her emotions.
I teared up when she sat on the bed and started to tear up only to push everything down
Thank god they didn’t show the scene though
fred asking june if she was all right was a good parallel to serena asking her at the beginning of the episode. because both serena and fred are her abusers but in different ways
And when june shut down fred by saying at least it wasn’t him. we stan a queen
I also think the scene between lawrence and june at the table after was very good. It was so well acted. lawrence seemed utterly devastated while june is planning.
Alma is one of my favorite characters and I loved learning a bit more of her backstory. Even though it was brief
I wondered what june was going to tell janine. I think she had to lie but I wonder if it will come up in the future. On some level I wondered if janine knew june was lying but was choosing to live in denial
And all the marthas are going to help finally we got a plan set in motion. 10 episodes into the season but still stuff is finally happening

the handmaid’s tale s2ep11 thoughts
under the cut because spoilers
overall a pretty decent episode. it felt very much like old handmaids tale which was nice
this show’s pattern seems to be very slow start and then everything happening at the end
eleanor is quickly adding to my list of favorite characters in this show. Even if she is unstable i love that she sees through the bullshit and knows that even though lawrence was raped in this situation as well that june was raped because of him and the society he created. eleanor sees through everything in gilead and i love it
june saying she wants to kill him too you go queen
the scene with lawrence and june drinking.... while june is a motherfucking badass and she has bounced back from hitting rock bottom i dont think she’s well. and lawrence knows that too which is why he made the mental health comment. this season is definitely about changing june. there have been hints of it in previous seasons but this is when she goes through more of a personality transformation
wow the marthas really run gilead we stan
i think it’s pretty obvious from the start that serena is setting up fred. the way she said goodbye to rita, she knew she wasnt coming back. and I think her beginning nerves were because she was nervous about what would happen to fred not really tuello betraying her
and of course fred is his cocky normal self but its heightened even more when they are alone. I’m conflicted on how serena acted with fred... part of me thinks she still loves him. Because they’ve always been this delusional power-hungry team that have a connection. But then part of me viewed it like the end of the wolf of wall street where margot robbie’s character gets leo’s character to fuck her one last time and butters him up and then shes like “i want a divorce”
the scene in the woods with them at the econo family’s house was beautifully shot. the scenery, the camera work. beautiful. The conversation that took place... solidified more to me serena was setting him up. It seemed like she was saying goodbye in a way. She brought up what she was unhappy with and reminisced with him, and when he said he didnt need to live in dc i didnt believe him and i dont think she did either
but fred admitting he was sterile..... um wow if he wasnt such a terrible human i would be proud of his character development
more proof serena was planning to cross him though is that her reaction was very sad instead of like rushing to comfort him
glad they didnt show the waterfords having sex because honestly dont need that in my life and any scene of them doing it is a waste of time to me
for a second i freaked out when it looked like lawrence had abandoned them because i hadn’t read that in the spoilers for the episode
are they coming after lawrence because of his liberal tendencies? or because he wasn’t performing the ceremony?
june walking through jezebels like she owns the place. i love her confidence
the bartender being concerned about beth made me happy i feel like she’s really well liked and i hope nothing bad happens to her
also the bartender knowing about lawrence robbing all the museums is another good way of showing he isnt really that much better than the other commanders considering fred and serena did the same thing
ugh winslow....
june trying to give herself the speech and then snapping. It’s interesting because in one way it shows she has lost her humanity the way emily and moira had. one thing about june in the book was that she always “kept her humanity” and that was shown in the second season when june couldnt bring herself to kill the waterfords. But the longer june stays in gilead the more unhinged she becomes. BUT I would also argue she has more humanity now because she cant suppress her disgust anymore and so she reacts. So while its more unhinged I think its also more like a new aspect of her personality being born
love that the martha helped her and that the marthas literally cleaned up the entire scene they really are bomb ass bitches. QUEENS
lawrence giving june the gun.... what are they gonna do shoot off whoever comes to the house? or is that for when they try to escape
if june is staying and not escaping after this season i could see her truly going underground/on the run at the end of the season and not going to someone’s house to be a handmaid
mmmmmm tuello is fine and still stand by the idea that he and serena will fuck
fred immediatly doesnt trust him which is actually smart of fred but i also think that it was more fred was insecure about himself and projected. not that he felt something was up. just my personal opinion
fred is such a dick the way he yelled at tuello once they parked but its the way ive seen every privileged white man get mad about anything small so it was perfect delivery
when tuello said they had crossed into canada and all the soldiers came out... YESS WE STAN A KING
It was so satisfying for tuello to say what fred was being arrested for as the americans looked on. SOOOO satisfying
As for Serena.... I think my question from earlier was answered in how she looked at him. She does still love him and so part of her felt terribly guilty for playing him. So the way she was treating fred earlier was because she does love him still but also knew she was betraying him
For the next few episodes... im guessing serena defected and gave fred up or gave them both up hoping doing so would let her see holly. Which ugh. If this season ends with serena in hawaii with holly instead of nick and june in hawaii with holly im gonna fucking riot.
anyway based on the preview moira, luke and holly visit fred and serena and fred is in a jail cell and its said serena betrayed him. but I couldn’t tell if serena was in a jail cell too. My guess is kind of what i predicted earlier in the season and that serena’s long term plan when she left canada was not to get holly back to gilead but was to find a way to leave gilead and take holly with her so i imagine she will try to get custody of holly ughhhhh.
If nick and june can’t be there to parent her then luke and moira should. not serena
im interested to see what happens in the next few episodes because so far this season has been all over the place and so who knows how it will end (i know some of what will happen but not everything and i want more spoilers)
