Doors
A drive through a rural area that I had not visited in some time … a breath of fresh air, living in a bustling city with constant traffic, near 4 major hospitals, a baseball stadium, and bustling commercial areas, this was a drive that was soothing and restful. Hope you enjoy the doors that we passed along the way, For more doors please visit Dan’s No Facilities site.. where other…

la porta d'acqua
Water door in Venice, Italy. For sure the most Venetian door is the so called “porta d’acqua“, the water door. It can be double, sometimes it stands rotting in the water, sometimes partially walled up at the expense of what it’s for: connecting the house to the waterways. Linked o Thursday Doors

Forest Fairies - #ThursdayDoors
Every time I walk this path, I feel a bit childlike. I keep my eyes peeled and I listen hard... well, you just never know! #ThursdayDoors #FairyDoors #ForestWalks
A colourful collection of doors today from Belleek Forest here in Ballina, Co Mayo. These wonderful little fairy doors were first made a few years ago by the members of The Men’s Shed, and I see that they’ve repaired some that had gotten weather beaten, and they’ve also added some new ones. The fairy doors are a popular attraction in the forest for people of all ages. Every time I walk this…

Knock-Knock, Opening a Door on 'Touch Wood'
I have no reservations about touching, knocking on wood. Am I being irrational by succumbing to an ancient superstition? Or am I unconsciously helping myself?
‘Knock-knock,’ I chuckle to myself as I knock on the wooden closet, ‘the work on my next book is going so well, touch the wood!’ And ‘mum’s the word!’ ~ Am I being irrational by succumbing to a positive superstitious belief? Or do I actually improve my performance in a subsequent task by engaging in such credulous thoughts and behaviors? Never mind keeping to a rigorous writing schedule! It feels…

jeudi
Doorways, entrances, there is always a certain intrigue ..sometimes more obvious than others. Even at night, we are drawn to buildings because of an entrance/doorway. Some can be very deceiving, impressive and exciting on the outside, but uninviting once inside. Other doors or functional, strong and commanding, while inside there is calm and serenity. Today I have combined the Thursday Door…

More Doors from Huelva
There are more interesting doors in Huelva. Moorish decor around the door, with a tangle of spaghetti wiring at the junction box The door is magnificent, but it’s overshadowed by the tiled cross-bearing Jesus. I rather like the intricate wrought iron lamps on either side Just a small yellow door in this fine building in the process of being renovated Plain door to this kiosk providing junk…

Chorus
(for @wincestwednesdays)
We watch from the rafters. It’s dusk. He’s in love. We send him home. We are his friends but we send him home. We make up urgencies and we wave goodbye and we watch him get on his bike and ride. We get out under the door. He is fast but we are faster. We beat him home. We watch him from the trees through the eyes of crows, the eyes of owls. In the morning we are songbirds. He tears off bread for us to feed. Now it’s dark. There’s salt on the threshold but the house has no foundation. The joists are rotting. It’s no work at all. We watch from the vents. He walks from door to door. He leans his head against the frame and he listens. His hands curl into fists. He’s in pain. He’s only fifteen. As he sleeps we jump into his bed and crawl through the hairs on his leg. We suck and suck his blood. His blood is different, blood of our blood. In his dreams his hands are learning the shape of his brother. We watch him then we scuttle underneath the floorboards. There we congregate. We talk about him and them and our long-laid plans. In the forest we are a gang of elk. We slither close to the fire. Watch them laugh. Watch them pass the flask, knees pressed together. He’s seventeen, his heart reshaping. We watch the shadows through the tent. Secret skin laid out for him, fingers in his hair, pulling. We howl. We have our orders. In the forest we chase and we watch and we howl. Watch them swim in the river, their strong bodies against the current. Now that he knows his brother’s weight they must come apart. He must become unmoored. The highest leaves don’t move but soon it will be fall. Some of us will fall. We smile and we reassure him. We call him gifted. We call him trapped. He’s only seventeen but his Latin! We know him. We’re in it for the long haul. Far out there are places that are safe. Where he can’t be reached. We write letters for him, to him, on his behalf. We welcome him home. We sit beside him in the pews four Sundays in a row. Listen how little he speaks. Kiss his cheek. Watch from the ceiling. Watch through the smoke.
