Hello everyone! If you’re reading this, welcome to Rings of Power Valentines Week 2023! Thank you so much for your interest. Events like this help keep the fandom alive and thriving while we wait for season two to drop.

This is an event meant to celebrate the various relationships presented in The Rings of Power, whether romantic, platonic, or somewhere in between.

Below are some basic rules of the event and a quick FAQ. Please read it through thoroughly.

Event Rules

The event will start on Valentines Day (2/14/23) at 6AM PST and run until 2/21/23, closing at 12:00AM PST.

I will be tracking the tag #tropvalentinesweek2023 and do my best to reblog everything, but I’m just one person! To help me out you can also @ this blog, and if I haven’t reblogged your post then also feel free to message this blog with a link to remind me!

Here is the list of prompts - you can post as much for one prompt as you want! And you can skip prompts if you’re not a fan of one, or disregard prompts entirely and do whatever your heart desires. They’re just a guide. :) 

This is a LGBTQIA+ friendly space. Terfs absolutely are not welcome in any form. And I want to make it especially clear that people and content on the aroace spectrum are welcome!

All kinds of content are welcome, whether that be fics, headcannons, art, edits, fanvids, reader-inserts, cosplay, poetry, music, podfics, calligraphy, tiktoks, or handcrafts — if you make it, I’ll reblog it!

Absolutely no ship-shaming. If you don’t like a ship, then don’t consume the content. Ships will be tagged character x character (romantic) and character + character (platonic). If you don’t like a ship or it squicks you, please feel free to blacklist the tag. Harassment and negative comments about ships may bar you from participating in the event in the future

If you are posting to AO3 - you can add your work to the event collection! Optional, but highly recommended :)

FAQ:

Do I Have to Sign Up?

Nope! All you have to do to participate and have your work shared is add it to the hashtag and preferably @ the blog

Do I Have to Follow the Prompts?

Nope! The prompts are there to jog creative juices, but you don’t have to follow them if you don’t want to.

Can I Post Late Or Skip a Day?

Yep! You don’t have to do every single day, and if you post a couple days late on a prompt that’s totally fine. Posting after the event closes is also fine, but sharing won’t happen nearly as fast or as reliably because I will no longer be actively tracking the tag.

Is NSFW Content Okay?

Yep! But please tag it as such and stick any explicit content under a read more.

Are Platonic and Queerplatonic Relationships Okay?

Absolutely!!! This is an event for all kinds of relationships and there will be days specifically devoted to those kinds of relationships as well, but you can post that kind of content all throughout the event.

Are OT3s/Polyamory Welcome?

Yes!

Am I Limited ONLY to Characters and Places in the Show? 

Preferably, your work should include characters from the show, but you are absolutely not limited to what they have covered. Anything from Tolkien’s legendarium that tickles your brain is welcome, whether that’s kidnap fam, Celebrimbor and Narvi, Elwing and Eärendil, Celeborn, Celebrían, etc. etc.

The song quote choice is a bit cheesy maybe but it's what I first thought of when I saw that scene of Valandil alone on the ship. WE know Isildur is alive, HE DOESN'T!!!! 😥😥

Day 7 - Freeform

Why must it be over so soon!?

Durin looked around in wonder at the half-completed realm of Imladris. It managed to conceal defensive architecture in beauty. The winding paths would be nearly impossible not to get lost in. There were countless pillars that one could take refuge behind, and, unlike most elven architecture, it was made almost entirely of stone.

Much of the stone had been given to Elrond by Durin himself, of course, but it gladdened him to see it put to such good use. “I especially love all these bridges you’ve made,” he said to Elrond, who was walking beside him. “Long, thin, no railings… I pity the poor fool that tries to invade.”

Elrond laughed. “And they strike you as familiar, no doubt. I got the idea from your own bridge on the eastern side of Khazad-dûm.”

“Aye, so you did!” he realized. “I always told you: dwarvish elf.”

Elrond smiled and looked away. “And as I have always told you-”

He broke off. Durin looked up to see what had drawn his attention away. Across the way, standing on a high bridge, was an elf-woman. She was Disa’s polar opposite in looks; tall, lanky, and pale from her hands to the tips of her hair. Elrond, however, was staring at her like a startled deer.

Durin, having once been a young, lovestruck man himself, immediately put two and two together. His friend was smitten with that young lady, but clearly had yet to gather the courage to court her.

He elbowed Elrond. “You two would make rather a pretty pair. Is she available?”

Elrond tore his eyes away from her at last, blushing from his cheeks to the tips of his crooked ears. He sputtered for a moment before collecting himself and saying, “She is. I shall not be the one to get in the way of that.”

Durin resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He had forgotten how young his friend truly was, in relation to his own kind. “You’re clearly moon eyed for the girl. Don’t make my mistake and hover in the shadows; talk to her. Tell me you at least know her name.”

They had passed into one of the guard houses and Elrond was refusing to look at him. “Her name is Celebrían, if you must know. I am not going to ask her to court me because I am quite sure she is beyond me in every way. Also… I am acquainted with her mother and I fear her wrath.”

Durin actually did roll his eyes now. “Youth is wasted on the young,” he muttered. “Very well, speak to her in your own time. Just be sure to send me a wedding invitation when you finally do get around to it?”

"Yes, yes, yes," Elrond deflected.

Durin, satisfied, dropped the subject.

Durin never received any wedding invitation. However, his great-grandson was more than happy to attend in his ancestor's place.

The glade was carpeted in delicate looking crystalline flowers. They caught the light of the late morning sun and amplified it, making it seem as if they were perched upon an island in a sea of shifting sunlight.

Elwing stopped eating when the bottle was still nearly half full and, while she had quieted, she was not yet asleep. Instead, she stared around the glade in wonder.

Arondir knew she probably couldn’t yet understand him, but he spoke anyway. “These are ninniachloth flowers, Princess. See how they catch the light? In the past, on the last and first night of each year, your grandmother and great-grandmother would go to the highest peak in all of Doriath to strengthen the magical barrier that used to keep these lands safe from the outside. The night sky would light up in a thousand different hues and the ninniachloth would catch each and every one of them.”

Arondir gazed around the glade. “I would come here on those nights. It felt as though I were walking through a stream of rainbows.”
