Never wanted to be best friends with a character more than Muu from Sucker for Love. Oh my god she's (they? Idk I'll stick to they) me but in a we could be the bestest of friends way. So awesome awesome. Let's write fanfics together and watch the end happen all over and over so that these two girls can have their yuri.
Also, semi-related thought. Pretty awesome that Sucker for love decided to have an ace woman as the mc for a sequel to the game where a man's unbridled lust lands him a couple of hot eldritch babes. Perfectly executed, ngl.

OC interview
I was tagged by @phoenixradiant , @mk-writes-stuff , and @kaylinalexanderbooks , thank y'all! For this one I'll keep it easy and do just Narul and Ninma (at the beginning of the story.)
1. Are you named after anyone?
Narul: "No, I don't think so. I'm actually not really sure what my name means. I've never met another person named Narul."
Ninma: "Oh I have a buncha ancestors named Ninma! Its a noble name! I also have ancestors named Unma, which is my name for boys! But its kind of funny because Unma is a boy name but it means Lady (equivalent to Lord). My paba says that the name used to be Shabalic and it doesn't mean lady there. My um...great great great great great great great great grandpa was named Unma, King Unma, King Lady."
2. When was the last time you cried?
Narul: "Um...what time is it?"
Ninma: "Probably yesterday...maybe this morning? I hate stale bread..."
3. Do you have kids?
Narul: "Does Ninma count?"
Ninma: "I'm five!"
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Narul: "Not, not really, I'm not very good at it. It doesn't really work when people are scared of you."
Ninma: "Nope, never...neeeeeeeever."
5. What's the first thing you notice about people?
Narul: "Uh...the tops of their head?"
Ninma: "Their voice! Some people have bad voices. Narul has a good voice, deep like a cow! Mooooo! Ninmaaaaaa! Stop thaaaaat! Moooooo!"
6. What's your eye colour?
Narul: "Uh...I don't really look at my face that often. Brown I think."
Ninma: "Brown! My paba says that they are like cedar bark!"
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
Narul: "I'm not sure what a movie is. But I like happy things."
Ninma: "I like scary stories! With monsters and dragons and demons! What's a movie?"
8. Any special talents?
Narul: "Um...I don't know if being strong counts as a talent." Ninma: "He can eat pinecones! And acorns! And bones! And poison fruits!" Narul: "Ninma that's not a talent, I just have a strong jaw...and stomach." Ninma: "It is special though!"
Ninma: " I can climb really fast! And I can read and write!"
9. Where were you born?
Narul: "Bira says that I was born in a city-state called Syshlum. I left when I was a newborn, so I don't remember anything about it."
Ninma: "The palace of Labisa, duh."
10. Do you have any pets?
Narul: "...Does Ninma count?" Ninma: "Hey!"
Ninma: "I used to have a pet horned-rabbit, and a peacock, and a lamb, and lizards...but I had to leave those in Labisa."
11. What sort of sports do you play?
Narul: "I've never played a sport. All the slaves were allowed to play was racing and wrestling and uh...not many people wanted to wrestle with me."
Ninma: "Does climbing count?"
12. How tall are you?
Narul: "About nine feet tall when my hair is flat."
Ninma: "Um...about two feet and 10 inches. Yeah, I'm short, so what?"
13. What was your favorite subject in school?
Narul: "I've never been to a school. I've never even had a tutor."
Ninma: "I didn't go to school but I had tutors! I really like poetry and history."
14. What is your dream job?
Narul: "I...I don't know? Some sort of...flower farmer thing I guess?"
Ninma: "Queen of Labisa, duh!"

I gotta say yes that unmas anmus thing feels very performative and itchy ( please if you do it get consent from the people you're donating to to film them ) but it has the same energy as Mr. Beast videos.
Yeah the dude does care and wants to do good but he's largely in it for viewership. However he's never harming anyone except his consenting friends when he does this. Yes he's "using people for views" but he's actively improving their lives
Performative charity meant to Garner praise and or attention from YouTubers you like is still charity that's going towards making lives better. as long as you're not making these people you're donating to our to be some poor helpless souls you're saving, and you're showing them human respect who cares.
Its kinda like donating during a stream, yeah you're doing it out of the goodness of your heart but part of you hopes the YouTuber sees your message and thanks you. Its a human thing and totally normal. Performative charity still is charity so long as you're not an ass about it. Selfless charity is rare if ever actually a thing.
Mark donated to a shelter once cause their video had a dog that looked like chica, would he have donated a thousand dollars if he'd just passed them when browsing the internet? Probably not. Does that make him horrible? Nah it's human
And Mark and Ethan know better than to reward asses with attention so, I'm word vomit rambling but this can only be good

I feel the urge to talk about how often Underverse's 'big bad', XGaster, is called out for not being as big or bad as he seems. Even with all the power he has, he is constantly said to be hiding behind his creations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite all the power he has, and how easily he could dispatch some Sanses (as seen in the 0.4 ending), he continues to hid behind his creations. The ability to overwrite is not the end all be all, which XGaster has learnt from his near death experience during the XTale series.
At the end of it all, Gaster is right. XGaster is scared. Scared of what he doesn't know, what he can't expect. It's why he almost kills Cross in a last ditch effort to keep Fatal away from himself. Why he overwrites all his creation's wills and why he wants Chara and Cross under his control. He's a control freak, and that's been really well established, but I love how each episode further highlights just how little control he has compared to what he implies, and how much fear is accompanied with that.
At the end of the day, he silences Gaster and ignores Fatal. He refuses to respond to either of them. Because Gaster is right, and Fatal is in fact a threat.
I'm in love with the way XGaster is portrayed. He never really changed his methods between Season 1 and 2, always hiding behind someone or something to do his bidding.
Tumblr media
It's also interesting how Geno addresses XGaster here. I'm pretty sure how Isolation might have affected XGaster is obvious, but the lines "there are many ways to break free. watch out for which version of yourself will get the job done." is still a bit of a mystery to me.
It's obvious how that applies to Geno, given that 3 versions of him show up in this episode: His normal Aftertale self, Error (who only shows up in flashes in this part of 0.7, but is fully present in part 1) and Fatal Error. All three versions have 'broken free' of something in their own way, be it the isolation and ensuing madness Geno went through, Error going through the same again or Fatal becoming an even bigger glitch after escaping Error.
All in all, can't wait for 0.8. Really enjoying where this is going so far, and now I have the urge to draw Fatal (even though that would be far too much of a pain and quite difficult given my skill rn).

Someone on youtube has been streaming their attempts at a Shi Heath solo for Erkling Heathcliff's final battle for a total of 37.5 hours (and counting, they're streaming right now) and I'm impressed at the dedication. Holy hell, man. Good luck.

Here's That Heathcliff Ramble You All Wanted
Okay so forgive me for whatever inaccuracies are in here (and correct me if you notice any!) I'm simply sharing the mess of thoughts sitting in my head and while I'm sure this will be more organized by the time I take this out of Notepad and post it I don't promise it won't be obvious how much of a ramble this is. But okay let's go.
Heathcliff and Other!Heathcliff: One and the Same
No, this isn't a theory that Other!Heath is a future Heath or something. It's been made pretty obvious that isn't the case, given ids only pull from other worlds as far as I know. I will also not comment on how this happened; I am aware this (or something similar) happened in Leviathan, but I haven't read Leviathan so I am not aware of the specifics of how this works. Neither does that matter.
Now, to get into my point, I first need to compare this Canto's progression to the previous Canto's, Canto V. Some comparisons in terms of character development could also be made to Canto IV, but my understanding of that is limited and I need to replay it more, and Canto V is a much better comparison due to their similarities. You see, in Canto VI and V, Heathcliff and Ishmael are mirrors of their respective antagonists. While in Ishmael's case, it is because her obsession with defeating Ahab was leading her down the path of becoming Ahab herself ("That bastard… has to be alive still."), for Heathcliff that is because Other!Heathcliff is literally him. In ever single way except for the world he originates from. Given that Ishmael's arc is about seeing that and changing for the better, you would expect Heathcliff to have a similar arc. You would expect their battles to progress the same, with Heathcliff overcoming his issues over the course of the battle acting as a show of their growth so far …right?
The Other!Heathcliff boss fight was great. Music was banging, fight was pretty damn fun and somewhat challenging, and my Shi Heathcliff was doing utterly nothing because I didn't want to stagger him (I have only two none base ids, and the other is a level 1 N. Corp Heath. I was not spending the next half hour in Luxcavation). But, back on track, during the fight I had the distinct feeling that unlike Ahab and Ishmael, there was literally no difference between the two. There was no character growth or sudden realization. You could switch the characters around and it'd be the exact same—hell, give Heath a couple more days and he'd be the exact same. This is even shown in how both of them can get the Deep Bereavement buff.
Where am I going with this? Well, I want to point out the end of their fights. Specifically their base EGO's changes. Ishmael's Snagharpoon was a representation of her undying hatred for Ahab and her obsessive focus on the goal of hunting Ahab down. Her striking Ahab down with the harpoon would be the realization of those efforts, but it would also cement her existence as an Ahab. It would show that she was truly willing to let herself be blinded by her obsession for revenge at the expense of those around her, and thus her striking down the whale after would be Ahab striking down the whale. However, in choosing to strike the whale instead of Ahab, she shows her ability to not let such an obsession completely overtake her; to follow her compass not with blind devotion but with a sharp understanding, like a great sailor. She has learnt to use her compass as a guide for a journey of her own making, not as a rule for where she must go. "This is how I will chart my own path…"
Heathcliff, on the other hand, does not have the meaning of his EGO change or evolve at the end of the battle. Instead, the meaning is further reinforced and revealed plainly for all to see, with the extra context of what Other!Heathcliff told him. "You… and everything that crushed me under their feet, built this wall between me and Cathy…" may include Hindley and Edgar, but ultimately they're only extras. The true meaning of the Bodysack is made literal as he proceeds to beat Other!Heathcliff to death with it, who, as we've established, is literally him. He is beating up himself with the sack. He is going to shove himself into the sack. And as the beating continues and extends past its usual duration, we see the envy outline fade and be replaced with wrath, and the damage counter changes to that of corrosion. He is not wielding the EGO. It is wielding him. This acts as a representation of how this battle has affected him; but unlike Ishmael who grew positively in her cutscene, Heathcliff is faller deeper and deeper into his already existing issues. Bodysack's envy assignment showed just how much he envied everyone else: he seems himself as an absolute wretch, the worst of the worst, and because he sees everyone as better than him, he journeys to better himself such that Cathy will acknowledge him. And yet, as the Envy fades to wrath, its meaning is not completely altered, only further revealed. He doesn't just envy others for not being as pathetic as he sees himself to be, he hates himself for being such a wretch. The bodysack isn't just meant for others. It's meant for the object of his hatred. Himself.
In killing Other!Heathcliff in such a manner, he cements himself as the same person, much like it would have been if Ishmael killed Ahab.
Here, I will shift a little to talk about Other!Heath, who I view as simply a more complete version of Heath. In the sense that he's already been through the entire book, his entire journey. He is Heath with the benefit (or demerit, I guess) of experience. And yet it's interesting how he's not even the slightest angry about losing. He doesn't just want to kill Heathcliff, not to just watch him fall into despair. He wants Heathcliff to come to the realization that he has: he is the wretch that murdered Cathy. He is the reason she was destined to be miserable. And for that sin, he deserves nothing worse than hell. Other!Heathcliff doesn't just want Heathcliff dead, he wants himself dead. He's not just journeying to other worlds to fulfil some hate boner. It's either he kills other Heathcliffs, or they kill him. There is no in-between. All Heathcliffs must die, and as long as they continue to die, he is fine with his own death.
There is another thing I would like to comment on, but only lightly, as I would like to wait for the reveal this Wednesday to complete my thoughts on it, but Heath's conversation with Carmen is interesting, specifically the point where he distorts. There, he affirms just how he sees himself: not as a human, but as a beast, something much lesser than a person. Such is the shape his distortion shall take, as said by Carmen and laid out by Heathcliff: "I shall become an infernal hound; snarling, tearing at the fabric of the City… And I will shove its remnants into this sack… and grate it across the broken earth." One cannot help but think this is a result of all the dehumanization he had gone through at the hands of Hindley. All the verbal abuse he suffered at the hands of everyone but Nelly and Catherine has been internalized, and this is the result.
Lastly, I would like to point out two things that came to me upon remembering the start of the book: Cathy died in childbirth from what I heard, and Ms. Heathcliff (I am unaware if her name is revealed in the book, I have either not reached that point or it never is) has yet to show up in this Canto to my knowledge. However, that is not what I want to talk about here. The thing is, Heathcliff owns dogs in the books. The hounds that threatened to bite Mr. Lockwood. And I can't help but think that his distortion would reference them, in some part. I know Heathcliff already has Telepole (which is sure to take on meaning given this Canto, especially its corrosion), but I doubt they would go the route of making his distortion straight up Telepole. That would be disappointed and honestly doesn't seem like what PM would do. Allow me this little bit of speculation, alright?
I think that's all I have to say for now. I can't wait to see what happens next honestly, so I'm kinda glad I have GBF Guild Wars to distract me until the next part is here. Feel free to share your thoughts in the notes! I may take a while to respond, but I promise I'll do so eventually! (Be patient with me, I have social anxiety and ADHD, admittedly self-diagnosed though.)

I am. I am so normal about Heathcliff. I am so fucking normal about the new Canto VI part.
Can I ramble about it? Pretty please? Can I fill your feed with the longest post you've seen in a while that's just me rambling about why I love this sopping wet cat of a man? Can I talk about how even with my limited knowledge on the book (I'm like a quarter of the way through it) it so so enhances the story in such a beautiful way? Cann I? Can I???

As expected, there will be rambles about Canto VI's final part. I didn't sleep today at all and spent all night playing it, and I was not disappointed. Final boss was also peak BTW, the phases were well done.

I don't think I've seen any Dust Frans fics that focus on the inherent obsession a Murder!Sans would inevitably land on by going through with his one and only impossible goal.
Think about it. The original AU didn't have any of that memory erasure plot that led to the closed game loop. Sans remembers, and nothing about that changes. And each and every load, he is completely focused on eliminating the human. At the start, yeah, the goal's only effects on him is his ever crumbling psyche as he forces himself to commit atrocities against those he loves, but once they're all gone?
Well, there's nothing else to focus on but the human.
The perverse obsession that could arise from that would be so utterly delicious to write. Sucks that the only Dusttale fics I've written are either not frans or feature a Sans who's since recovered somewhat from the effects of the timeloops. I would love to see a dusttale frans fic where both Sans and Frisk are so focused on killing each other but the stabbing is just straight up a metaphor for sex. Their faces come so close as they fight each other and you think they'll kiss, but they simply continue fighting (they kissed in a less literal sense of the word). They become each other, their selves bleeding into the other as the two become one in their shared obsession over the other. Their hatred is no longer just hatred, it's some weird tension that makes you think that the two have been some weird ass married couple for years that simply show their love for each other in this weird way.
What can I say? I love weird and unhealthy pairings a lot. I mean, the only charisk fic I've ever written involved the two being gruesomely impaled and Chara growing a love for pain, so I don't know what you expected from me of all people.

desperately in need of the "UF!Sans has no idea what to expect in platonic or romantic relationships and cannot tell the difference" trope because holy hell it is so delicious to read. Love my Frans were they're already dating but have yet to put a name on it. He wakes up one day and goes "friends don't sleep in the same bed every night and kiss and cuddle and dedicate their entire lives to each other, do they?" and almost shrugs it off until Alphys tells him that no, most friends do not do that.
I feel the urge to find the fic that first exposed me to this idea. It was so good.

Torn on how to feel about their mother because she was obviously not a great parent but she knows that and does feel remorse for it. Apologies don't solve anything but at least she did apologize (or try to, depending on the route). And she actively tried to help Andrew, even if it was pretty clear that she still didn't care too much for Ashley.
Perhaps I'm being too lenient on her because she feels like a much better mom than mine. Who knows?
Also her reaction when she thought Andrew and Ashley were screwing is hilarious. If only that moment went on a bit longer.

you know, maybe I should just sit down and grind out all the remaining things I need for my eternal unlocks. I could just wait for the next ROTB and buy some uncap sets to speed up things without much work, but it doesn't take much out of me to spend an hour mindlessly clicking while watching videos/reading manga.
I just never thought I'd actually have to grind white dragon scales. Sheesh.
