this is one of the photos from my trip to the island with my boyfriend. we went to visit his mother and youngest siblings, that morning was quite a time, he made me wake up at 5:30am on a Friday to bus all the way to the ferry terminal in Vancouver. I had a lot of fun on the way to the ferry though, after having a nap on the bus into Richmond, we both had a really nice time visiting them. we went clam digging and his mum made clam chowder the next evening before we went swimming and basically a swimming hole with unacceptably large rocks as its base!

A lone wolf named Staqeya (also written Takaya) that has roamed Victoria on Vacouver island since 2012. Unfortunately he was shot and killed on january 2020, leaving the people of Canada hearbroken.

Credit © 🎬 🖋 @vemiliob Orcas!🤩 • After almost a year after being in the water with orcas in Norway, it was great to have the chance to see them again in Canadian waters. The orcas are researched very well in Canada: each group of orcas (called a pod) is given an identification number and individual members are given a letter. They are identified by the marks on their dorsal fins and the shape and mark of their saddle patch (the white mark behind their dorsal fin). • I had the chance to watch pods T123 and T60 for a while, which are Transient orcas. This type of orca eats mammals (mainly harbour seals, but also porpoises and sea lions) instead of fish like Resident orcas. They also travel long distances along the BC and Vacouver Island coast, while Resident orcas stay more in the same waters. • This member of T123 is performing a ‘spy hop’.
