Varnek deliberately uses a large scale format to give his image as much grandeur as possible. His firm gaze, directed straight ahead, the dancing shadows on his face, his artistically folded cloak, palette with brushes, the scenic view outside the window – everything tells that the depicted person is an Artist. The bright red colour of his necktie and patches of paint on the palette add expressiveness to the portrait's rather restrained colouration. Varnek depicts himself against the window. The window was perceived as a borderline between the real world and the unattainable ideal.

Notes: Sometimes you find solace in some of the oddest places. After Ba’shira has cleared her name as the murderer of three Great Hunt winners and Khelan has distanced herself from Intelligence (and essentially her own covert ops specialists), these two meet during Bounty Contract Week. Though they start off as rough 70/30 partners that drink together a little too often (because Ba’shira has more experience, she assumes she gets the pot anyway), they quickly realize that maybe hiding behind skimpy armor, shot glasses and dark glares aren’t the best ways to bond with another person. However, they come to trust each other and find that maybe a kind woman is the best thing to wake up to, instead of a raging hangover.

Originally these two came back to their class love interests and married them, and this started out as a crack ship to be honest. But, Khelan’s less than dismissable aim and Ba’shira’s uncanny charm got me. Think I might have to play Khelan properly this time, and get screenshots for these two. They’re an extremely chaotic duo though, so any bounty they come across will never last long to a rifle or two blasters.
