🗝️ give me a reverse AU scenario with one of your favorite ships

Okay, so I have actually thought about this before but never got around to writing it. So here's my pitch for a Devil's Minion Reverse AU!

Daniel finds Armand in Lestat’s house after the interview, just like in QotD. Armand locks him in the cellar for three days and when he lets him out, he’s delirious and desperate. He wants to be a vampire. Armand laughs and tells him he’s basically harmless so he won’t kill him but he won’t turn him. Maybe he’ll go mad. And then he tells Daniel to leave New Orleans. Daniel refuses. He says he came to find Lestat and if Armand won’t help him or make him immortal, he’s going to keep looking. Armand gets angry and threatens to kill him. Daniel is terrified but he’s a mess, exhausted and pleading. Maybe he even starts crying, and feels pathetic, but he won’t go. He can’t. He’s come this far. Armand is curious about him and a little moved by his tears, not that he’ll show it or let Daniel know. He listened to the interview. He liked Daniel and how he spoke to Louis, and he liked the things he said at the end. Armand thinks he’s a fool but he’s an interesting fool. He doesn’t really want to kill him but he doesn’t want him here in New Orleans looking for Lestat. God forbid he finds him. So Armand tells him fine, whatever, but I'm leaving the city and Daniel won’t find him again. He should give up his search for Lestat. He’s long gone from NOLA and no one knows where he is. Armand vanishes. Daniel sticks around for a day or two, but having no luck finding Lestat (even though he’s practically on top of him! The irony!), he decides to pursue Armand. Uno reverse, y'all! It’s opposite chase time! Daniel scours newspapers and radio broadcasts for anything about missing persons and murders where the bodies were exsanguinated, any clue of where Armand might be. Maybe he catches up with Armand in Paris by tracking down where the Theatre Des Vampires used to be. Obviously Armand can stay hidden from him but he’s intrigued by this tenacious boy, fascinated that he doesn’t give up, and slowly they start talking and Daniel teaches him things about the modern world. But Armand keeps running. So Daniel keeps chasing Armand around the world, pursuing him endlessly, Armand allowing himself to be seen and found from time to time, only to disappear into the ether again, while Daniel keeps looking.

(Optional Subplot where Daniel runs into The Talamasca and they offer to help him investigate vampires but Daniel doesn't totally trust them and Armand warns him off of them.) Gradually Armand starts appearing to Daniel more often, maybe even leaving little clues or a trail for him to follow as he goes. Eventually things play out similarly to canon where Armand realizes he loves him and they come together as a couple.

Anyhow, that's my idea! I think it would be fun although challenging at first because obviously an Armand who wants nothing to do with this would not allow himself to be seen.

What would I like to give Marius? Well I know his good heart would gladly accept even the simplest of gifts. I would like to give him art supplies, though, but something special, like materials with which to create colors, like powdered colors to be prepared, in glass jars. So that he himself would have to prepare them in order to use them. So I hope he would be happy to remember how he did it in Venice, and it would be a gift that makes him peaceful and nostalgic but with a smile.

❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?

Louis <3 I think this is an affect of how likable and overtly sympathetic he is in the amc show but I've seen people getting genuinely offended over Louis being described in fandom (and by Anne rice herself) as a manipulative cold hearted ass who uses his perceived vulnerability and gentleness to distract from the fact that he is just as cruel if not crueler then the other vampires. Like Louis does nottt have strong morals or high empathy lmao. Book Louis weaponizes his privilege like a white woman crying to self victimize into making the other vampires look worse them him 😭 . He refuses to kill humans for a while not bcus it hurts him to take life (he actually takes more pleasure in it then most), he refuses bcus he has catholic brain the way a christians who say "how do atheists have morals without god?" do, misunderstanding that most people actually care about other people and dont need an existential threat to encourage them not to hurt others.

His moral compass is self centered and based in up keeping the appearance of self restraint and monk style lack of enjoying himself, not empathy. If a vampire killed u would u feel better if u knew he cried over how much he got off on it then flaunted his suffering over how little he indulged so that everyone knew how piosis he was 😭.

He is way worse when it comes to how he treats his victims then Armand who intentionally seeks out victims who r asking to die or Lestat who tries the vigilante approach. Louis kills innocents and he thinks it makes him better cuz he only does it sometimes and he feels really really bad about himself afterwards. As akasha said (paraphrased) he's the most predatory of them all.

To specify I love book Louis SOOOO much I love how shitty he is that's why it makes me sad when people mischaracterize him as sincere and get gen mad when ppl characterize him how he is in canon (a lying selfish bitch bless his heart). Like ik amc Louis at this point in canon is unambiguously in the right but he isn't like an accurate reflection of how he is in the books 😭 it's not like amc did what anne rice was trying to do more successfully, they just nulled what anne rice was doing in favor of a more likable protagonist. Which is fine, but like, there's no crime in preferring evil to the core horrible asshole Louis of the books.

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?

I think the common fandom perception of Armand as the crazy unhinged "omg I can't believe he actually did that in the books??" sadistic maniac villain guy is funny but not really accurate. Armand explicitly not only tries to avoid violence but dislikes it and finds it hard to comprehend why someone would seek out violence and conflict.

The reason he is always doing fucked up shit isn't out of a lestat-esc desire to cause chaos, it's bcus his highly strung ptsd brain has him convinced that the world is a battle ground and he must always be defending himself and acting out in violence.

Since acting out in violence is a reaction hes been taught throughout his life to be standard and necessary, as violence is something so normalized to him he considers it more of a tedious chore then a last resort measure, he usually reacts to conflict in ways that are objectively extreme to anyone who isn't thinking from his perspective. In qotd he even asks Daniel why men choose to fight in wars, explaining that he doesn't understand the draw of violence (bcus he's not a man) and he can't comprehend the supposed thrill of it.

Then he says this in pl to Gregory

i was going to say Marius but I figure that's too obvious since everyone at this point knows I don't like Marius 😭 so here's an even hotter take,,,,, Lestat ‼️

Only to a degree, I think Lestat is hot and deserves the hype, but i also think he's hot in a different way then a chunk of the fandom does. Based on his book description he's kind of wonky looking, mouth too big for his face, vaguely unnerving shallow pale skin, starved 1700s peasant build but also kind of buff in the unhealthy "i dont eat regularly but I'm strong enough to carry a wolf for miles on my back" sense, weirdly small fucking feet. He def has creepy ass florescent blue doll eyes too. my point is I think when drooling over Lestat the fandom tends to forget this wonkiness in favor of blonde bombshell, Sam Reid chizzled jawline and abs, or conventionally beautiful anime twink, when they should be appreciating lestat in all his weird as shit glory.

During the chess scene when claudia won. Why do you think made lestat so angry. Is it cuz claudia was smarter than he thought. Or was it cuz he was scared cuz she played him and he didn’t see it coming. Or maybe he is afraid of her winning and him losing louis?

Ohhhh ok, so... there are layers to this one once more.

And my personal theory re the "broadcasting" plays into that. Imho, obviously.

Now. Sam has said that by then he could hear what they said to each other - however, Claudia and Louis make a very important distinction during that chess game: Louis "says": "I don't like what you're feeling right now." There is a distinction between sending out thoughts, and another receiving them - and not doing that, and another reading your thoughts and feelings. That is directly from the books, too, from Memnoch. So lets get back to the chess game with this in mind.

Lestat and Claudia start the game, she uses the Immortal strategy, which ultimately defeats him. (Have I said how much I adore that they went and learned those matches?!)

Lestat and Claudia snipe at each other, while both think something else. The actual words are not that important here though. Claudia's thoughts we can hear.

Lestat we can only observe.

So let's observe. Claudia says to Louis (broadcasting): "I've been having a thought the last few days."

Louis: "Yeah? What's that?"

Claudia: "I think he killed Magnus."

And... Lestat looks up, with this look (actual slow blink up):

There is nothing else for him to react to, but he quite clearly does.

I found the extra shot of his hands when the game continues quite interesting. He literally keeps them under the table, on his knees. In a way bracing himself. Extra shots are important and they always mean something. Imho they literally used those to show us his hands.

This is Lestat looking up at her when she says: "If you're going to beat Lestat, you have to become Lestat."

Again, there's not much for him to react to prior, but he does, if you rewatch. He's assessing.

And then his expression here, when she repeats that she is going to kill him - and Louis says that he will destroy her if she'll try. That's vague pride at Louis and some amusement.

And then right after, when she says: "I can kill him."

The amusement is gone, there is a vague worry, and possibly some abject pain. He wonders if she really can. This is prior to Claudia making her next move(!). The shift in expression is there, but it did not come from the game.

And then, when the game goes on, and he is worried now, and she says: "And want to tell you something else Louis."

He looks up, again, after that comment:

That's attention. To her. Not the game.

And this is his expression when she says: "The secret is, you want to kill him, too. And you will enjoy doing it."

And Lestat is taken aback, by that.

And.... Louis... does not respond.

That must have been quite the sinking feeling, the abject rush of adrenaline. Louis does not object to her wanting to kill him(!)

And this is Lestat's comment, after that: "You've won." And he does not only mean the chess game.

And Claudia's response is: "I'm tired."

Now, I don't know about you, but what kind of response is that to the previous statement? Except of course she knew that they were doing a layered game here, that it was all about more than the game itself.

Her saying "I'm tired." signals she is "done" with their game. With their life. With the shit game they've been playing the last few years.

His "Well, finish the game." after is as much prompt to do so literally, as it is a prompt for her to try.

Now. Here.

Because he knows she is planning to kill him now. And that she has pulled Louis in on it, at least enough.

His literal best chances are for her to try, now.

Him flipping his shit after is as much canon temper outburst as it is serious worry, which we know will then slip into paranoia after(!). He's also furious she would dare to rise up against him. He's furious that Louis just acquiesces. He is furious that he is in this position. He is furious she won. He is seriously worried she's won.

And we know that Claudia will stop talking to Louis like that, after, too. That she knows he can hear them if they do that. Which is why she stops doing it (for the most part, with a few very noticeable and planned exceptions, imho).

This is Lestat's face after he throws off the chess board and looks over to Louis, who ignores him (and his outburst).

That's worry.

Not anger. Worry.

He knows. And he goes full blown paranoid after that. And tries to beat her at the game.

And loses.

🦇 I had such a hard time choosing a fic. I finally decided to choose something in my bookmarks from several months ago, since fic is often treated like it has some sort (very short) shelf life. Hanging on the Telephone by @nothing-but-paisley. The premise is simple and entertaining: it's the transcript of a smutty phone conversation between Daniel and Armand that's in the Talamasca archive. Daniel is just the right amount of snarky,horny, and pathetic, and Armand is Armand. 👍

Daniel's perfect evening (IMO for the sake of this exercise): Daniel wakes up and Armand is still in bed with him. He waited for him to be released from the death sleep so Daniel could wake up in his arms and he loves that. Of course, Armand doesn't linger. They have things to do!

Daniel takes an unnecessary shower and brushes his teeth, mortal habits he'd never let go of and no one has discouraged him from losing. The only time he's ever eschewed these things when he was in the thick of madness, so everyone reckons it's probably not a bad idea to just let him do them. Plus, Armand likes the little bits of humanity Daniel has clung to and hopes he always will.

Armand has put out clothes for him so Daniel gets dressed and then goes downstairs, where Armand is impatiently waiting. In the car as they ride to whatever party/show/event Armand is so eager to get to, Daniel sees a meme that he thinks Marius will appreciate about classical art or something about Rome and he texts it to him. Marius texts back "Laughing, you are so funny." And then asks when he's coming back to Court. Daniel tells him soon, Lestat has been on Armand about it, too (not literally but maybe also literally). Armand does not appreciate that joke.

They hunt before this event because they want to look human, so Daniel lets Armand take the led and find them victims. Armand takes the lead in disposing of the victims, too, and although Daniel helps, he appreciates not having to think about it too hard. He does it all the time, but it's his least favorite part of this whole vampire gig. The bodies still wig him out a little and he'd rather avoid it if possible. This is part of why he likes the little drink so much. Less hassle and mess.

Whatever the event is doesn't matter, because Daniel enjoys watching Armand captivate people. Of course he enjoys talking to strangers about their lives and hearing their stories, but when he glances over and sees Armand laughing or talking animatedly, it makes his heart soar.

When they get home, Benji is playing some video game and Daniel hangs out watching for a bit while Armand goes to the music room and plays a few duets with Sybelle. But as it creeps toward sunrise, Armand ushers the kids to bed, and then takes Daniel to his room--their room? he still calls it Armand's room--and they kiss and get undressed for bed. Daniel mentions going back to Court because Marius seems eager to see them and Armand agrees they should probably head there soon.

And then they do things that we will fade to black on tumblr for but you can probably imagine, just sweet intimacy, some of it somewhat sexual because that's often their habit, or maybe just kissing and touching until Daniel is too groggy and they fall asleep together in Armand's massive bed with his million count cotton sheets. FIN.

Sales Pitch for Daniel Molloy: Daniel is a guy who sought truth and meaning in the stories of other people until he learned of the supernatural. He has a desperate need to know things, to learn things, to see the world and experience everything. His desire to be a vampire stemmed from his need to not to miss out on experiences and the progress of the world, and he because he wanted to spend forever with the love of his life (Armand). He's sardonic, funny, affable, and he believes absolutely in the love vampires are capable of. He's just a cool guy who knows what he's about.

it constantly haunts me that there is NO way there aren't in universe true crime people who talk about fazbear history . like there's gotta be threads on reddit talking about the missing children's incident and the aftons/emilys and all the other fucking incidents . michael "had nothing to do for thirty years besides hunt down his father and watch shitty tv" afton HAD to check them out sometimes right . what does he do when he finds out that some guy on reddit got everything right and law enforcement didn't .
