Thank you for always answering our questions, and since you said you have lots of free time here’s some more ;)

1) How did you come up with the idea for The Black Menagerie? As I’ve said before, it’s delightfully weird in the best way, I don’t think I’ve ever read an AU fic with a plot like this. I’m very much enjoying it though and look forward to the next chapter.

2) When you’re writing longer fics, how do you stop yourself from rushing the plot? If I try to write linear stories I always end up rushing to the part I’m looking forward to.

3) Do you think we could have a sneak peek at a page or two of the holy scriptures? Of stuff that you’ve already written, of course, just so we can see how the outline looks.

4) Do you have any other tv shows outside of Wednesday that you enjoy at the moment?

5) Who was your favourite character in the Wednesday series? Outside of your fic lmao.

6) Do you have any little rituals for when you write? Like a specific place or drinking coffee idk.

1 - The Black Menagerie is in part inspired by this print I’ve had in my house forever, Morgan Adams’ vlog on YouTube where she has had issue after issue with contractors trying to renovate her own house, and the first little beginning arc is inspired by real life in a big city - I live in one of the “top rattiest” cities in the US according to the 2023 Orkin data. It’s a daily occurrence to run into some sort of vermin here. This was an average day in my classroom last year:

They are not afraid of the kids, but they are afraid of loud music. The children requested Ozzy Osbourne and I’d turn the speaker at them and they’d go back in the pipes where they came from. (We have a new custodian this year and we have significantly fewer pests but I did have a cockroach go crawling over a kid having a meltdown already in the cozy corner in my classroom on Tuesday - that did not help the meltdown.) Rats are a huge problem on our playground and one day I heard bickering under the slide only to discover the children were fighting over who was going to get the ‘magic powers’ from a disembodied rat paw they found. I put it in the compost and still I’m waiting for it to come back to me in some way - I just don’t feel like I’ve seen the end of it.

But largely I just wanted to write something cute and different! Chapter two (just finished this morning) has some surprises so I won't give that away yet, but a little bit just inspired by the idea of local drama and tapping into Enid's vlogger side. AND ALSO - the Amy Adams and Emily Blunt 2008 movie "Sunshine Cleaning" ;) you'll see.

2 - I love to torture the reader first and foremost because it’s fun and I enjoy it, but also I LOVE building constant rising action and climax and then back to rising action. To me, character development is key and I can’t rush them through situations. That said, as I write my stories out of order I do often write the first draft of a scene that I’m looking forward to in order to get it out of my system, then I know what I need to do to ‘get them to that point.’

3 - Absolutely not lmfao my handwriting is atrocious and I’m not showing it off lol.

4 - Spirit High on Netflix was cool and I’m looking forward to the second season, I just finished Harley Quinn S4 on HBO, and I’m re-watching House, M.D. at the moment, and I often put on the OG Addams Family before I go to bed, it’s a 24/7 channel on Amazon Prime’s free TV service. I really don’t actually watch much TV ordinarily I have a hard time focusing on it if it’s not something I already have seen, I usually need to watch with Tracey to enjoy something new. 

5 - I hadn’t related to a character as much as I did to this interpretation of Wednesday in a long time (hence the 1.4 million word exploration of what was next for her) haha. I thought Eugene was cute. Hated what they did with Moritica, which again - is the resulting 1.4 million word story to fix that. Morticia is usually my favorite part of the franchise. 

6 - I write best in quiet, honestly “silence would be appreciated” - not even instrumental music playing in the background (though I’ve gotten better at tolerating that on the green music application). I also prefer to write in my bed against my skull reading pillow thing. And of course I need my Toasted Graham coffee from that awful “Seattle based-brand” I’m sure I’m supposed to be boycotting with just a splash of unsweetened oat milk in it in a 20 oz black Yeti rambler (NO HANDLE). I’m very exciting and…ritualistic haha. Honestly I /can/ write anywhere, I managed to write in my childhood bedroom that has since been painted a putrid shade of blue while my parents were arguing about how much money to pay the pastor for a funeral this morning.

i went to the stardew concert yday and it got me feeling nostalgic so i've been poking around my save files. i'm honestly confused why i only have two games saved locally, i swear i'd had an initial run on a standard farm? but that might just be lost forever 😭

my solo pc run from 2019 was farmer raven at the nest! this was a forest farm that made it to fall year 2, i think i was intending to romance elliot but hadn't yet tied the knot. i have really fond memories of playing this while watching a specific vlogger and then i think they stopped vlogging so i also just fell out of playing for a bit

then i bought the game on the switch in 2021 and played as farmer jay at the midnight farm. this was a wilderness farm and only made it to fall year 1, so not very far, though i don't really remember why i stopped (possibly i just started the next game)

and my longest and "best" stardew game was a coop game from 2021-2022! i forgot my name but it was something mildly stupid. like boblynn? after the goblin. yeah. it was a hilltop farm and a relatively "complete" game where we made it into year 3 with the intention of 100%ing stuff but then we forgot to get a tv recipe for a second time and lost motivation 😂 i can't check since it's a friend's file but i remember even after 3 years i don't think my fishing or combat were at level 10 because he literally just did all of that for us lmao it was such a good life ...

i'm so eager for 1.6 i've been excited to start a new farm for ages!!

Well looky here, I wrote a thing.

... Or just a scene I can see playing out lmao.

General gist: Iono pesters Grusha into appearing on Iono Zone to talk about his snowboarding accident.

Now this is something he really doesn't want to do, but she's persistent and wears him down enough that he finally agrees to do it just to get her off his back. Iono is ecstatic as Grusha almost never does interviews, especially ones related to his accident, and she hypes the ever loving Hell out of it. She promotes it in all her streams, she has a trailer for it made, she reminds everyone of the time and date, like she really hypes it up. This is a rare bare-all interview with legendary Paldean snowboarder Grusha Ibáñez and you do not want to miss it.

The day finally arrives. Iono wastes no time in introducing Grusha to her audience, that he's here to talk about his accident, and-

He cuts her off.

"Wait, which accident did you want me to talk about again?"

Iono is, understandably, a little confused. He continues, "Like, I've been snowboarding for over 20 years now, I've had more than a few accidents in that time."

She's about to tell him she wants him to talk about the accident, y'know, the big one that everyone knows happened but nobody knows the actual details of, when he takes off on some saga about how he was attempting slopestyle for the first time when he was 8 and fell off a grind rail and smashed several teeth out, followed by another one about he broke his wrist racing his sister when they were both 10 (and still won the race, he adds with a smirk). It continues like this for a while, with him just talking about random crashes he's had over the years, never once mentioning the one she and her viewers are waiting for. The most serious one he talks about (or so Iono assumes) was one time he blew his right knee out in training, and had to get surgery, which jeopardised his participation in some major tournament, forcing him to compete wearing a brace. He still came first, he adds with another proud smirk, brandishing a photograph of himself on the podium to boot.

Iono isn't paying much attention to him by this point, instead reading her chat, noting with some alarm that people are leaving, accusing her of clickbaiting her audience, that Grusha is kinda unlikeable and arrogant, or that they thought he would be more interesting than this. They came here for the heartache and tragedy, to hear about such an esteemed athlete cut down in his prime, not to hear him brag about how he won some competition on a busted knee.

She finally interrupts him in the middle of some spil about how he accidentally ran over a wild Greavard out on the slopes and broke his shoulder (the Greavard was fine, he assures her), turning off her camera abruptly and without her usual outro. Grusha is smirking once again by this point. Mission complete.

She asks him what the Hell was all that about, that he knew damn well which accident she wanted him to discuss, and that he basically clickbaited her audience and now they're mad at her. He lets her rant before simply shrugging and telling her that, if he's honest, he doesn't think his big accident is suitable for her channel. He doesn't watch her content regularly, sure, but he's seen her recent uploads, and just doesn't think his accident would look well-suited alongside yesterday's beauty-vlogger-drama mukbang with Tulip, or the day before thats summoning-a-cartoon-character-at-3am video. So, he told her about some less serious accidents he's had over the years. Not his fault her audience didn't like them.

Iono dismisses this, she's had plenty of sob stories on her channel that went down a treat, what makes his so special that it can't be discussed?

She starts listing them off, not noticing at just how much he bristles at her words. Needless to say, having one of the most viscerally unpleasant experiences of his life reduced to just a "sob story", something meant only to be displayed on magazine covers to entice readership, or in video thumbnails to entice clicks, doesn't sit well with him.

He reaches in to the envelope of photos he's brought, rummaging through and eventually pulling one out. He thrusts it in Iono's direction, stopping her monologue dead in its tracks. She doesn't like how abrupt his movement was.

"What's-"

"Just take it."

She does so, tentatively, and very reluctant to look at what she's been handed. Eventually, she glances down at it.

It takes her a moment to realise what she's looking at.

"That's me. The day after the accident."

Iono struggles to process what's in the photo, the number of wires and tubes criss-crossing his body, the oxygen mask covering most of his face, that frankly terrifying looking contraption around his head, his sunken and barely open eyes-

She realises he's talking, about how he thinks the photo might have been taken the day after the accident, but he's not entirely sure. He'd lost track of time, he says, the first few days in hospital passing in a sleepy, painkiller-induced haze. His parents had taken the photo, and though they said it was taken the day after, he suspected those first few uncertain days had been just as much a blur for them as they had been for him.

"You know, you're probably the first person outside of my family who's seen that photo."

That photo, he explains, was taken for use as a possible press photo, but was ultimately never published. According to his parents, they'd wanted to wait until he was actually somewhat conscious and able to choose what photos he wanted to disclose. And, needless to say, he'd never released it. He hadn't released any photos until weeks after the accident, when the halo and drains were removed and he'd started physio, and could actually sit up in bed somewhat. Iono vaguely remembers seeing that photo in the papers at least.

"Bet that would've been good for your stream, eh? Show that off to all your fans."

Iono flinches at his tone. He's mad at her, she can tell that. But there's something else in his voice. Something she doesn't recognise.

She finally pulls her eyes away from the photo and looks over at him, shocked by how much his posture's changed since he handed it to her. His arms are folded tightly, he's bouncing his leg rhythmically against the floor, he's looking straight ahead with a cold, hardened expression. A far cry from the smug asshole who'd been sitting there only a few minutes prior.

And then she realises what she heard in his tone.

"... I'm sorry."

He doesn't react.

"Like, really, I'm... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have made you do this."

Still nothing.

"I-I can tell that this is like, really uncomfortable for you to talk about and I know why you didn't want to do this, I shouldn't have forced you into this, I'm so... so..."

Nothing.

"Please say something."

He wants to say something. He wants to turn to her, to hold her face in his hands and force her to look in his eyes, and tell her more. Tell her that his spine never fully healed, leaving him with chronic pain he'll likely have for the rest of his life. Tell her it's a miracle none of his shattered vertebra managed to damage his spinal cord, or that none of his shattered ribs managed to pierce his heart. That it's a miracle he's still alive, let alone able to walk, that if his body hadn't been found in time, then the internal bleeding would have killed him for sure. Tell her that he wasn't the only casualty in his family that day.

How's that for a "sob story", eh?

But... he doesn't. He doesn't need to. She seems like she's learnt her lesson anyway. It'd just be cruel to rub it in.

"I should probably get going now." He stands, gathering his coat and the envelope of photos, turning to Iono to collect the last photograph.

She's crying.

I think I’ve identified the main issue w/the latest rizzy fic, but fuck me if I can figure out how to fix it.

I don’t know exactly where it’s going.

Normally, this isn’t an issue. I tend to let the story flower as I go, and trim as needed.

But I’m absolutely staggered with this one, where it’s either (major spoilers for this modern AU fic plot here no matter what direction I go with it in the end, but if you don’t mind that/are curious abt the text blocks of info doing my head in, read on lmao):

Version A: Roach (independent food/chef vlogger) gets too into his May 31st project (a crepe cake) and works into June 1st, only to be reminded by Izzy of his extensively planned Pride Month activities/ideas, that Roach had advertised all the month of May as starting IMMEDIATELY on the first (aka he should already have a video of a themed dish up, but he doesn’t bc he’s on Cake Ten of the crepe cake, and their pantry is now fucking empty too.) Fic (tentatively for now) would end with Izzy figuring out how to help him A. finally finish a satisfactory crepe cake (to Roach’s standards, aka Very Fucking High), B. rapid fire choose and film one of his themed ideas for the Pride Month stuff, and C. eventually sleep bc all of this is going down at like. One in the morning.

Version B: All of the above up until Izzy’s part. Instead of figuring it out that night, he gets Roach to bed and does what he can to help before leaving for his own job (PA/Security/Other Duties As Assigned to the combined very rich household of Ed, Stede, Mary, Doug, and the kids (in a huge shared house, so they aren’t in each other’s faces if they don’t wanna be, plus Ed & Stede are implied to own other property they spend time at too.))

The issue with Version B is that I worry the thing is getting too Big:

now I have a subplot started there about Izzy admitting to Mary (when he drops in for the morning to take the kids to school and give both couples of the house one of the reject cakes that Roach has deemed won’t be used at all by him. They have ten fucking cakes in the fridge, getting rid of two barely puts a dent in it tbh)

that his mum passed, in England (implied that everyone else is living in the States or NZ, I’m not exactly sure where I wanna put them yet frankly bc either is fine like I DON’T ACTUALLY CARE BUT I GOTTA IMPLY ONE OR THE OTHER DON’T I) last year, during June.

And he just didn’t tell anyone bc A. everyone was busy w/their own lives, B. Roach was doing his usual Pride Month stuff, and Izzy always helps him film/cook/etc for any bigger projects whenever he can, and he didn’t wanna distract from that, and C. he and his mum had a Complex relationship, so he probably wasn’t going to go visit her before she died anyway (secretly, he wishes he had. Only one who knows anything abt how Izzy and his mum interacted is Ed, who tbh has gotten distracted from any of that stuff since meeting Stede and focusing on helping create the shared family they have w/Mary, Doug, and the kids. Which is absolutely fair, but still. For the sake of their friendship, it will need Addressing of some kind, at some point.)

Like all of this is fine in theory, but it already feels sort of out of control? Bc like I then need to address in a finished version of B:

-Izzy and his mum

-Izzy and Ed

-Izzy and his relationship w/Ed, Stede, Mary, Doug, and the kids. Only bc there’s the implication that while it’s good and fairly easy work for Izzy, he occasionally does feel/get treated like The Help during work hours vs someone they actually know well who happens to work for them, and they sort of. Forget that once his shift is done for the day, he might still hang out just as a friend of the family, and they don’t always remember to turn off that Voice of talking To The Help in those moments (with it being noted that Roach and other crew members have witnessed this, but have leaned on Izzy to sort of give them permission to call it out, which of course he isn’t gonna do for fear of it fucking up their arrangement, and he doesn’t wanna job search in his mid-fifties. Which I think is valid enough lol.)

-Roach and his Pride Month problem (aka he’s got all the research in front of him, in this case the idea that he’ll highlight dishes that were beloved by notable/famous ppl w/in the LGBTQ community, but Actually, that isn’t always info that’s easy to find and some of it is more basic foods which he expected, and it’s fine, except he really wanted to challenge himself and maybe if he just looks a little more he can find something else-cut to two hours later and he’s asleep on his laptop. This isn’t even getting into the actual cooking and videoing of said cooking. He needs a Break.)

-Roach and Izzy addressing their mutual issue of ‘working too goddamn much, but not knowing how to take breaks and not feel Terrible and Useless during them.’ It isn’t necessarily hurting their relationship, but it is making them both more stressed than they need to be, and neither of them knows how to calm their brains down enough to understand that they can, in fact, budget for a small break or a vacation and nothing bad will happen.

-The kids and their implied issue w/mainly Mary and Stede (Ed and Doug hang back and are still doing the ‘I’m a new stepparent and I don’t wanna fuck up and overdo any of this, so I just sort of do what my spouse tells me to do re: the kids’ discipline/scheduling/etc), that they’re forcing them into an obscene amount of extra activities (including night tennis lessons, that require Izzy to also stay/work late, not getting them home until nearly ten at night, and himself then even later.) I don’t think they actually allow night tennis of any kind for kids unless it’s like. a fun now and again event, but to me it sounds exactly like what Mary and Stede would get talked into signing the kids up for. After all, it’ll look good on various school applications, and there’s nearly two whole hours after the after school study groups and other sports they play, surely the kids don’t want to sit and do nothing then? (spoiler alert: they do. they just want to sit and do nothing and be kids, which Mary and Stede do know, but have forgotten in the mess of getting divorced, then watching each other get remarried nearly right away, then realising it would easier/cheaper to try and share a home and keep the kids stable under one roof and moving everyone in together. Not an excuse, just an explanation.)

And that’s. So Much Stuff for one fic. And that’s WITHOUT figuring out what I want the main goal/ending to look like for sure. I won’t lie and say I’m good at multichaptered fics, I’m very much not, but I think that’s the only way Version B could work. And Version B, for what it’s worth, I think could be very satisfying and interesting as a read.

Version A, on the other hand, would be shorter, less dramatic, and would probably involve just Izzy and Roach, whereas Version B eventually would at least be referencing that like. The crew we know and love still work for Ed and Stede and whatever they do in this modern AU (marketing that only involves nautical/maritime/marine life themes maybe? does it matter in the end if it gets mentioned vaguely all of once???)

Even then, we still have the issue of: where in the FUCK is any of this going? What’s the point?

Version A, to me rn, is much more focused on rizzy and the internal dynamic there, focusing hard on the comfort of their life together and tackling problems together. I could probably just pull together something cute abt Izzy trying to fix the latest crepe cake while Roach films his first Pride video. Like my current tentative ending isn’t horrible. Nothing to write home abt, but it’s Fine, ya know?

Version B, to me again dlksajf, is a bigger overall picture that frustratingly, as of yet, doesn’t have a real huge or distinct end goal. It’s less of a ‘here’s a set ending with clear wins and losses’ and more of a ‘life and ppl are messy, no matter how hard anyone tries. Everyone here is doing their best, and learning. Here’s how they’re doing by the end and what they’ve managed to learn/work on, with the implication that they’re gonna keep learning and doing better, but not without fucking up more first bc. Human’

But are either of those actually fucking satsifying???? I wish I knew!!! I was absolutely flying along writing the draft for Version B until all of the above shit knocked on the door of my brain and put up a goddamn roadblock!!!

This is so much info, but if you’ve read this far and have any thoughts/opinions on which of these seems more worth pursuing, please let me know somehow. I’m dying to brainstorm & bounce ideas around w/folks. But even if u just wanna say ‘nah Version A sucks do B’ or vice versa. Pls say it fdksafalk

i checked social blade to see how brennens social media accounts are doing and boy is he sinking

he has been losing thousands of insta followers since early 2020 and i mean THOUSANDS (up to 17k a month) and then steadily losing a couple thousand every month since (lol he also 100% bought over 100k followers in march of 2020 since he noticed they were dropping 💀) and he averages only 10k likes which is a tiny number considering he technically still has over a mil followers. to put that into perspective, some of the people colby has gifted a platform to average more than him

and as for his youtube channel, he loses a few every couple months but his subscribers generally stay the same like he’s had the same subscriber count for so long lmao. and he might be buying views since there is a suspicious jump there and it always stays at 634k but i honestly don’t know i can’t really tell when it comes to view count

to say he was sinking is actually an understatement💀 he is drowning and i think colby posted that to try and help him out but yikes. it may end up biting him in the ass when people get tired of sa apologists

the thing with brennen is, even if you take everything out of the equation that has been alleged about him, he has not changed content in YEARS. that man has been doing the same videos since 2018/19. the problem is he was known best as a daily vlogger and then "transitioned" into a… food vlogger?? idk how the describe his content since it's ALL THE SAME.

either way, ppl came for one thing and then he changed bc that content was dying out and he drastically changed his shit over bc this content that he's currently doing was getting him millions of views. but that was 3/4 years ago.

on top of that, snc/colby haven't really been in his content in years, so ppl that came for that aren't getting that anymore, so they left. and then on top of that, i do think a lot more ppl know about what he's been accused of and decided to dip bc of it.

so, there's three major reasons his views are down.

and for insta, it also makes sense that since he got a girlfriend ppl stopped following him. bc no one likes seeing an attractive person have a significant other, for some reason lol

and as for colby, i think he just posted it bc he had nothing else to post. i don't really see him posting that as a saving grace for him. brennen seems to be "fine" with his success, which is good… since clearly he isn't getting anymore.

and unless something "concrete" comes out against brennen, colby is still gonna be friends with him. regardless of whether or not that makes him looks bad. bc i think colby truly doesn't believe the accusations against brennen. especially when nothing came of it. and brennen was hard pressed with lawyers and ready to fight it.

all i can say is i hope truth comes to light and ppl get what they deserve.
