Info: growing up with his nice whole family in his beautiful home. Everything was perfect until that one incident change his life forever. Gordon is the second member of the time gang(Carson's bodyguard and advisor being Carson's favorite) Gordon is the grumpy not so happy type being serious and grouchy and having some anger issues. Gordon is the strongest and the tallest (wonder why Carson is using a chair but it's actually a store lol) Gordon is a great cook and in his free time he likes playing mini golf!

Winter time wahoo south Florida (high speed)

Wahoo are arguably the most prized, table fare worthy, fish in the Atlantic Ocean, or any of the seven seas for that matter. This oceanic predator is a migratory species of fish that fishermen and scientists alike have limited knowledge on. Despite the lack of knowledge of this species as a whole, over time, fishermen of south Florida have found that these zebra print, toothy critters show up in big numbers off the southeast coast of Florida in the wintertime.

Targeting these fish proves quite difficult for novice and seasoned anglers alike. Partly due to the lack of research on the species, and partly because of the special tactics often employed to entice these fish to bite. There are a few methods to consider when searching for Wahoo, but in this blog I’ll focus on my favorite, high speed trolling.

(Pictured above is a typical high speed trolling lure, designed with a bullet shape to be pulled through the water at high speeds with minimal drag.)

Conventional trolling methods consist of pulling artificial lures and real dead baits behind the boat at any speed between 4 and 9 nautical miles per hour (knots). High speed trolling, a tactic specific to Wahoo fishing, consists of pulling only artificial, bullet shaped, lures behind the boat at speeds between 14 and 22 knots. In order to fish at those fast speeds, high speed trolling gear must be prepared meticulously to avoid tackle failure due to the extra stress put on the line.

Wahoo are known to be one of the fastest fish in the ocean, they have been known to reach speeds approaching 50 miles per hour, according to Sciencefocus.com. Very Few other fish can reach such high speeds, consequently, high speed trolling eliminates almost all by-catch, or unwanted species. Therefore, when high speed trolling, you are targeting Wahoo and Wahoo only.

Specifically in the month of November, Wahoo are notoriously plentiful in the northern Florida Keys. I have had lots of success fishing a deep water reef called the Elbow (25.1415° N, 80.2623° W), in depths between 100 and 250 feet of water. Driving the boat in a zig-zag pattern from shallow to deep ensures the entire depth range is covered.

The final, two important things to consider when targeting Wahoo in Florida during the winter is the sun and the tide. Wahoo fishing is undoubtedly the best during the sunrise and early morning and then picks back up in the late evening through sunset. Furthermore, it is ideal to high speed troll for Wahoo on a falling tide, according to Capt. Ron Schatman’s blog on outdoorlife.com, although you can catch these fierce predators during any time of day or on any tide. A falling tide during the sunrise, is a Wahoo Fisherman's dream come true.
