As much as I love spreading the "Sister Beatrice top agenda", I do not think Beatrice would behave anywhere near confident on her first time with Ava.
First of all, it's my headcanon that before Beatrice became a nun she didn't actually get to live or experience a lot, so everything she could have learned in her teenage years, she actually didn't, because her parents were too strict, and she was just too afraid to stand up against them.
Her parents sent her to that boarding school probably because at some point she admitted she had romantic feelings for one of her friends, but that was it, Beatrice is oblivious to love, and relationships, and, of course, to sex.
Add that to the fact that Beatrice is a perfectionist, with a great fear of failure, a control freak that gets overwhelmed when she feels she can't handle the results of any given situation she's involved with... Beatrice doesn't quite know how she should behave around Ava, and the not knowing... that terrifies her.
It's not that she's worried Ava would make fun of her, of course, she would never. But there's just something inherently annoying about not being able to BE good at something, specially when the only way to learn 'that something' is... actually doing it. But, will she be able to be good enough for her? Will she be able to be what she thinks Ava deserves?
When Ava comes back, Beatrice doesn't immediately kiss her, she doesn't jump into a relationship with Ava and certainly she doesn't jump straight to bed with her, simply because she has absolutely no idea how to do it without making it weird. So, of course, their comeback kiss is started by Ava, their "what are we?" conversation is started by Ava, and their first time... guess what? Also started by Ava.
I picture this: after the re-encounter they didn't have much time to talk about what had happened between them, they were once again in survival mode and it's only one day after a big fight that they finally and unintentionally find themselves alone. Everything that happened is weightening on Beatrice and she's pretty much gay panicking every time Ava gets too close to her.
It's not that she doesn't want her, on the contrary she wants her so much she's overwhelmed by a feeling she had never felt before, or at least, not in a very long time and certainly not with enough maturity to understand it. When they last kissed it was a life or death situation, now they are just staring into each other's eyes, something clearly in the air, but everytime she tries to say anything, something holds her back.
Ava tries to give her space. Ava is everything that Beatrice is not. She's reckless, and a risk taker, and if she fails so what? she tries again. However, Ava is aware she closed a line last time... not only on Beatrice's vows but on a restriction she had put on herself. Ava is trying to make things right and Beatrice knows it but at the same time she's begging, begging, Ava to push her, because that's how they work right?
At some point the silence becomes too unbearable and Beatrice is frustrated. She hates that she can't be as resolved as she is in most of her activities and Ava is... kind of having fun at it, looking at the perfect sister Beatrice losing her shit it's fun, it's so unlike her it's amusing.
Ava is laughing and that only makes Beatrice's frustration grow. At some point Beatrice apologizes to Ava "I'm sorry, I really don't know what I'm doing and I hate it" and that's Ava's cue to do what she always does... push her a bit, give her courage. Ava walks slowy towards her "I don't need you to be an expert at this, Bea" she takes Beatrice's hands into hers "remember what I told you before I left? You don't need to be so perfect all the time." She lifts her hand to Bea's cheek and Bea gulps. She watches Bea lean into her touch, close her eyes, she brings her other hand to her chest and she can feel how fast her heart is beating "I only need you to be yourself." She says. And Bea opens her eyes and looks at her.
Ava leans close to her, slowly, giving her time to adjust to the intrusion and when she's a breath from her lips she whispers "can I kiss you again?", looking at her eyes again waiting for an answer. Beatrice would simply nod because, let's be honest, that woman is incapable to form a simple thought when Ava is *that* close to her.
And when they kiss... it's shy, and it's tame, and honestly, Beatrice doesn't know what to do with her hands. Ava would guide them, maybe to her hips "you can touch me" she would state. Ava would open her mouth, begging for *more*, she would let Bea's hair down, touch her shoulders, then her chest, she would find that first button and unpop it. Bea would startle at that, only for a moment, only because she isn't used to it, but looking at Ava, with her lips swollen, panting, big eyes... she would push that thought aside. She would kiss her again and this time she would allow herself to touch Ava, gently, but more determined.
Ava would start walking backwards, as if saying "take me to bed" and Bea would walk slowly before her, with her eyes closed, trying to focus only on Ava's lips because maybe that way she would be able to shut up all the insecurities. They would stumble on their way to the bed and Bea would try to say "I'm sorry" while Ava would put a finger on her lips and just laugh, and say a terrible pun to her. Being there Bea would doubt until she doesn't anymore, until she stops thinking and Ava becomes the only thing she's worried at.

"I've trained my whole life for this ... and sometimes I forget that you haven't"
Tumblr media
This is not only about physical training. As much as Beatrice may have started practicing martial arts very young, that's not the main thing she's referring to. Something she's been doing even longer is managing suppressing her feelings. She's been training herself to keep her feelings to herself from the moment she learned what happened if she let them free. She has had ages and ages of practice in order to avoid them getting in the way of her decisions; she's perfected the way of making choices in the moment with critical thinking, completely pushing aside everything else. It is something she has become excellent at, something she's been praised for.
And Ava hasn't. The thing here, what Beatrice somehow acknowledges, is that the fact that skill comes natural to her, roots from years and years of pain and self-restriction she has imposed on herself. She understands it would be unfair to expect the same from Ava. It is true that Sister Warriors in general have to train her feelings (we see that on Ava's first training sessions with MS and Lilith), but Beatrice has been doing it even longer. It would be unfair to measure the other sister's ability alongside Beatrice's and, therefore, to ask Ava to do the same.

I love how Warrior Nun didn't portray Lilith as some shy, blushing virgin (even though, she had every excuse to be).
She utterly enjoys Adriel whispering into her ear. Basks in his attention. Loves his worship of her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She moves away from him, beckoning him to follow. It's in the way she glances back at him, with a flirtatious smirk. She lets herself be coquettish. Lilith is no victim of manipulation. She dances with the Devil willingly - no, eagerly.
Tumblr media
Yes, she looks around in wonder. A new world has been unveiled to her. Endless possibilities lay ahead, all she has to do is choose - finally, she's free. Free to do as she wishes. Free to feel attraction, to love. Knowing this, Adriel says exactly what she wants to hear. And, he's not wrong. Heaven's Champion be damned, she's power incarnate without such a chain around her neck. Fate has chosen her for greatness. Lilith knows he's tempting her. She lets him. She gives in because she can. She's as deliberate in her actions as he is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She looks into his eyes. The forbidden fruit is right within her reach. She's free to take it, she no longer serves.
Tumblr media
She strokes his face, and he melts into her touch. The Devil is as tender as a house cat for her. It makes her feel powerful.
Tumblr media
And so, she transforms.
Tumblr media
No, she did not tame the Beast. He awakened the Queen of Darkness within her, instead.

Been thinking abt this scene and also how beatiful the music that plays in it (Ava’s Fall) is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The moment just after Camila told her ”there’s no shame in it” — when she walks out and sees Ava, a bittersweet smile shows on her face. As it is in this moment she finally accepts her feelings she had tried to supress for so long. But also the very real fact that she wouldn’t even be able to even start to think about what would happen if she’d lose her. Meaning it’s both a relief and a doom and she can’t turn back now — She’s gotta do whatever it takes now to keep Ava alive.
This song is so tender and works so well in the scene. Also the fact that we at first don’t know what she’s looking and smiling at. But then in the next clip from her perspective, we see Ava flying, and the halo is shining — forming angel wings. Something about that is just so beatuiful. (She looks like one of those angels in some paintings).
Bea hadn’t ever let her feelings get in the way of a mission, and she had had lost sisters she’d known for years, which probably made her lock up her feelings even more. But this time she knew she couldn’t hold them back anymore.
Ava had swerved her path of life and brought some hope of something she’d never would have expected. Her (Ava) being so free and full of life probably had started her longing for freeing herself too.
I saw someoning mentioning it, but now i think it makes more sense. Beatriz da Silva was the saint of prisoners, so in a way she was keeping herself in a kinda prison. Someone else mentioned she was set up to be the next mother Superion, and i think, she might have ended up as bitter eventually if she would have kept supressing herself.
(Yes i reuploaded cause i wanted to add the gifs to clarify what the heck im talking abt)

Alright that’s it, got tired of people bitching about Lilith. So, lets get into the deep dive, shall we?
It is well known (in the WN fandom, at least) that Lilith is the first wife of Adam, expulsed from Eden after she refused to submit to him. She then partnered up with the Archangel Samael, head of the Satans, which is probably the Adriel equivalent of the Bible.
(Yes, we could have guessed that they would fuck. It was literally written for thousands of years.)
There are many versions of Lilith, of course, as with everything, but she is very often referred to as a demon of the night, often very hot, with long hair and wings (no I am not making this up).
Tumblr media
I think the scene where she goes to see her family is very important. You don’t give your character a butterfly shirt if some shit is not about to happen. I think it’s also well thought, because this puts her even more as the opposite of Ava. Something got shoved into her (the halo vs tarask claw), she came back to life, now she has powers that she didn’t ask for and don’t know how to control, or just generally why. Why her. Both went to Jillian for answers but couldn’t be helped. Both went back to where it all started, Lilith’s family and Ava’s orphanage. I didn’t really go well for either of them. After wandering for a bit, Ava went back to the OCS, even after what Superion and Lilith did to her. She found someone there who believed in her and supported her, so she stayed, and became what they needed her to be.
It was probably added after the fact, but it has been showned that Lilith got Ava, Beatrice and Camila away from Adriel in the last scene of s1. That means Lilith also left Mary there to die. Imagine how much that must have fucked her up. I too would be hesitant to show up at the OCS. She can’t go back there, and that “other side”, the one that would reflect Ava’s journey, is Adriel. So she went to him, and he believed in her and supported her. She became what he needed her to be.
This new Lilith is becoming more and more like the Lilith from the myths. Thing is, that character is… evil? And there are hints in season 2 to her becoming more like that. First, Lilith is supposed to have some sort of control on wind and storms. Adriel says in their first meeting that the storm around them was made by Lilith, but he also makes wind in his final fight with Ava? It’s hard to know if he was making that first storm to manipulate her, or if Lilith really was making a storm without meaning to.
Tumblr media
When Lilith is chasing Vincent early in the season, we are presented with this beautiful mural. I had to ask some friends, some say its just some art that was on the wall, some say it’s a mural that was made for the show. I decided to go with that last idea, simply because of the drawing on the right (and it’s more fun this way).
Lilith, according to pretty much everything she appears in, is a baby killer. Which, huh, isn’t great! She kills newborn babies, or sometimes pregnant people, or sometimes just people in general. And that graffiti, seen while Vincent is being chased by Lilith, feels kind of on purpose.
(If you’re asking about the other character drawn, I can only hope that this is Adriel’s hairy ass, a demon with a nicer mask, but I have big doubts about that. I think it’s Asmodeus, and we’re about to meet him in s3, cause Lilith is also seen as his queen in some writings, and wouldnt that be cool?!)
I have been obsessively reading on Lilith since I watched the season, and I remember reading somewhere that Lilith has a realm, somewhere, according to Something. But I cannot find it again, so this is all pulled out of my ass, don’t take this for gold. But I’m pretty sure I read somewhere about Lilith having a realm, and leading hordes of demons. If I did really saw that and it wasn’t a fever dream, then I really hope that’s the way Warrior Nun goes.
At the end of s2, Lilith doesn’t have any desire to kill Ava, and some people were confused by that. For me, it’s just a big parallel to the end of s1. Lilith is constantly there to try (and fail) to stop Ava from Doing Something. Back then it was from freeing Adriel, now it was to stop him from using Reya’s power. Adriel hinted about a divine war, a devourer of world coming, and it make sense to think that he would have told all of that to Lilith. She’s smart, if she knows what’s coming and know that Adriel is gone, then she also knows that she might need Ava in the future. Who knows what’s coming! Not me! Even Lilith didn’t know if they would be on the same side. It would be stupid to kill someone that you might need later.
It’s is particularly funny to see people complain that she “turned evil”, considering Lilith has always been Bad. First scene we see her, and she’s waiting for Shanon to die so that she can take the Halo. She then tries to kill Ava to take the Halo. In the first few episodes of s2, she has no problem with hurting and killing people. Remember how much she enjoyed torturing Ava in the first episodes of s1. She was always morally grey at best, if not straight up bad.
Lilith is one of the most interesting characters of the show, and I say that only because so much thought has been put into Ava and I am obsessed with my Baetrice, so Lilith comes close third. The depth of her story is so good. The idea of making her the opposite of Ava, since the first episode of season 1, they are playing the long game. Ava started the show with nothing, and through trust and resilience, found a family and a purpose. Lilith started the show with everything, and through selfishness and refusing support, she lost her purpose and her family.
They didn’t “fuck up her arc” in season 2. This has always been her story.

Another fun thought about WN
When Lilith is discussing ripping the halo out of Ava after they caught her at archTeq, Bea asks
Bea: and if she dies?
Lilith: that's up to god
Things inside the room start to shake and Ava starts floating above the bed. Despite the fact that we're explicitly told by Ava that she cannot move because she's still under the effects of Bea's (affectionate ❤️) tranquilizer dart. Only after that she's able to move again.
Which means, not only did the halo chose Ava, god/reya/whoever is the equivalent of god in this universe did too
Also, Ava is wearing different clothes than what she was wearing previous to arriving at cat's cradle. Someone had to strip her and put her into training-friendly clothing. And in my headcanon it was Bea (and also Camila because she's just helpful and sweet like that), because it's fun to think of the gay panic involved

I don't like when fandom treats Lilith as though she was a victim of Adriel's manipulations. It takes away her agency. It takes away her power, when her whole story is about power, and her quest for it. Yes, Adriel told her what she wanted to hear. It doesn't mean she didn't genuinely identify with his actions or philosophies, in spite of changing her mind later. It doesn't mean she didn't sincerely bask in the might he helped her unleash within herself.
In the end, the power remained hers. She remained the same divine being she had morphed into. Only in the end, she left Adriel behind.

Analysis of Avatrice as Talk and NFWMB by Hozier
I’ve been thinking abt these songs and how well they could be about Ava and Beatrice so here goes nothing
Disclaimer: this analysis is completely detached from the original meanings behind the songs. I approached the lyrics on their own and by completely ignoring the original intentions behind them.
Bea’s POV - Talk
The song begins with the line:
I'd be the voice that urged Orpheus When her body was found
Instantly, two things - first off, Avatrice is very the-myth-of-Orpheus-and-Eurydice coded and secondly, there is no way Beatrice doesn't know all about greek mythology and in particular about this exact myth. I just know her gay ass knows it by heart and is very deep into greek mythology. And also it reminds me of Portrait of a Lady on Fire which I cannot imagine not being a favourite of Beatrice's.
About the actual line - the so-called voice is one that urges Orpheus to go to the Underworld and try bring back the love of his life - Eurydice (exposing him to danger, making him do something irrational).
Beatrice risked the mission and the world in order to keep Ava and it makes a lot of sense she would see herself in this 'voice'. A voice urging to be followed into the greatest of dangers.
This ties to the next lines as well.
I'd be the choiceless hope in grief That drove him underground I'd be the dreadful need in the devotee That made him turn around And I'd be the immediate forgiveness In Eurydice
She sees herself as the problem. The problem which leads to all danger.
The narrator sees himself as all dangerous and tempting and so does Beatrice. Her feelings are putting their mission, their lives to danger. She sees herself as something that needs to be put out, a fire that is a little bit too dangerous.
As for the forgiveness in Eurydice, I assume it speaks to the part after Orpheus looks back. To me this is acceptance of this vision of herself. She has accepted she is someone, who imperils the natural, right, way of things and has based a shit ton of her decisions on that information.
Imagine being loved by me
And then there is the actual craving that peeks underneath it all - Beatrice actually dreams of taking care of Ava. But actually she already does, she wants Ava to just try and imagine it - what they could be together. She isn't even asking of her to actually answer Beatrice's call, to be loved, she wants her to imagine it. It doesn't have to be reality. She wants Ava even if it is only in her dreams. It is an image she often thinks of and doesn't dare try to make into reality.
But it also reveals something more. She knows what she can offer. The image is a good one. She knows the lengths to which she will go in order to have Ava. She knows how much she can give (because she has already done that before in her life, probably didn't end well). She probably knows it's not good for her, but she cannot help herself.
It could also be a kind of question to herself and to Ava, which she tries to answer in her head. Can Ava imagine being loved by Beatrice? Is that a possibility?
I won't deny I've got in my mind now All the things I would do So I try to talk refined for fear that you find out How I'm imaginin' you
Beatrice fantasises about Ava. About what they can be and all the things she would do. Not only when they are together, but also to get them be together. Whether that be changing seats in the van or killing off 30 armed men.
And she does talk refined. She calculates all her words and rethinks her sentences 3 times before saying them out loud. She doesn't give away her internal monologue (not with words anyway). She is reserved because she does not want to rebut their mission (and the world's well being for that matter), but also because she is scared of rejection. Right, the tough, calculating and precise Beatrice has feelings. Feelings that run very deep to say the least. And Beatrice is scared. Scared of her feelings, scared of letting the world down, scared of letting Ava down.
She talks refined in an attempt to hide behind her words, or rather sometimes lack there of. She talks refined to hide away her fear.
I'd be the last shred of truth In the lost myth of true love I'd be the sweet feeling of release Mankind now dreams of That's found in the last witness Before the wave hits, marvelling at God Before he feels alone one final time and marries the sea Imagine being loved by me
This second verse to me is once again about all the things Beatrice can and is so willing to give to Ava. All the good things she can be for Ava in the time they have together, before it all goes to hell.
I won't deny I've got in my mind now All the things I would do So I try to talk refined for fear that you find out How I'm imaginin' you x2
It is Beatrice finally accepting it all - her love for Ava, her attraction towards her, all the things she feels with her (old and new), all the thoughts that keep her awake at night, all the things she would do, all the circling around the point, all her passion.
and then
Ava's POV - NFWMB
NFWMB begins with the lines:
When I first saw you The end was soon
This line to me refers to the end of Ava's ordinary life, the end of the world as they know it and the end of Shannon's life as well.
'The end' was what brought them together and what (tried to) set them apart.
Ava remembers the exact moments she first saw Beatrice and how that was connected to the 'ending of the world'. Most importantly how that made her feel.
To Bethlehem it slouched And then, it must've caught a good look at you
Biblical references, of course, very on brand :). The end (?) slouched for Bethelehem, I interpret as a very destructive force headed for something divine. And this also fits the setting of Warrior Nun quite well, which kind of wraps it up with the exposition and gives way to Ava's feelings.
Might be a little bit of a stretch, but I feel like giving an exposition is the way Ava has been taught to begin stories, because of all the TV and books she has seen/read. She tells this story like a tale.
Give your heart and soul to charity 'Cause the rest of you The best of you Honey, belongs to me
And now we enter our topic of interest - Avatrice.
Ava knows how pure Bea's heart is and this mission that she is so emerged in seems like charity work. Not that Ava thinks Bea's intentions are entirely pure, more so that she knows how unintentionally Bea has gifted her youth to something, to a cause, to a belief. She has seen enough brutality. She knows that Bea's devotion has grown to be very strong.
But this devoted, ghost of a person that Beatrice has given to the OCS is not what her heart contains. Ava sees that. The rest of Beatrice is in Ava's eyes not 'the rest', but actually the most essential part of her. This part shines so brightly for Ava. And even though Camila and Mother Superion for example know that there is more to Beatrice, they have not seen her like that, they have not been able to read her so clearly.
This part of Beatrice is exclusively reserved for Ava, and her alone.
This line also exudes a lot of confidence. Confidence Ava has and shows, confidence with which she moves through the world and which is also one of the things that Bea is so attracted to.
She isn't being cocky or flaunting Bea's feelings, rather is telling a very big truth in a very honest way. This type of honesty about such big feelings can only work between two people who have complete trust and know how to communicate.
Ain't it a gentle sound, the rolling in the graves? Ain't it like thunder under earth, the sound it makes? Ain't it exciting you, the rumble where you lay? Ain't you my baby, ain't you my baby?
This brings a very new perspective to the world surrounding them and a direct opposite to the way Beatrice feels in the world. Ava reveals a type of sweetness in all the danger. This is not to say that it is fun to see so many get killed or to have to fight such brutal fights, but to call out an inevitable truth of it all - they are not doing it all for selfless reasons. In fact, a lot of what they do is for selfish reasons and there is no need to hide that. Ava seems to be very honest, while Beatrice is one to conceal.
What they do, even if motivated partly by inevitably selfish reasons, is still very hard. This is Ava’s appeal to Beatrice to relax and loosen up.
Nothing fucks with my baby Nothing can get a look in on my baby Nothing fucks with my baby Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing
Ava has been very protective of Bea, risking it all not only once. And even though Bea has done the same, it is different with Ava. Bea is everything Ava has and the first person who has been there for her and continues to be by her side, no matter what. So Ava will fight with teeth and claws to protect that. The repetition of ‘nothing’ seems to highlight how Ava would do anything and everything to protect Beatrice.
If I was born as a blackthorn tree I'd wanna be felled by you Held by you Fuel the pyre of your enemies
Blackthorn trees are associated with witchcraft and ill omen. The Halo feels like a burden to carry, almost like carrying the cross. In a situation where Ava has to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders, the only thing she wants is to be ‘felled’ by her lover. It is a play of words - the word sounds both like ‘felled’ and ‘felt’. Felled as in saved from it all. Saved like how christians aim to be saved by God, only God is a divine woman named Beatrice. And felt as in not only physically, but also emotionally. She wants them to be together in all ways possible. Physically, emotionally, here, now or somewhere else, some time else. In this life or the next.
Fuel the pyre of your enemies is an act of devotion. She wants to do the dirty work, she wants Beatrice to know.
Ain't it warming you, the world gone up in flames? Ain't it the life you, your lighting of the blaze? Ain't it a waste they'd watch the throwing of the shade? Ain't you my baby, ain't you my babe?
While the world is burning, so is their growing mutual love. The world burning is after all what brought them together, because of it they met at all. Ava is using the world going up in flames as a metonymy for their love growing bigger.
The world going up in flames is also the umbrella that covers their love story. While the world will be busy with its own destruction, underneath it all a great love story will have ran. An undercurrent determining the fate of the world. It is after all their love that is the core of it all, the determinator of fate.
Nothing fucks with my baby Nothing can get a look in on my baby Nothing fucks with my baby Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing
And one last time, nothing can do harm to Beatrice as long as Ava is there. Nothing can even try and take a glance at bisexual jesus’ hot gf Beatrice (throwback to Ava murdering the girl in the bar with her eyes for daring to look at Beatrice). Looking at Beatrice is reserved for Ava, because only her gaze can do justice to Beatrice’s beauty.
In conclusion
NFWMB is a very fiery song, revealing someone ready to fight, someone who gets angry when their gf is being flirted with.
Talk is a very watery song, for someone who feels and thinks deeply, someone who gets sad when they think their gf is being flirted with.
Fire can also be gentle and warming. It needs support to burn, but can get out of control fast.
And water can be very powerful and persistent. It is healing, but also should not be undermined in its destructive properties. (it can also make ur pants wet ;))
————
But what I love the most about Warrior Nun (and Portrait of a Lady on Fire for that matter) is that the two women are equal in all ways. Meaning that these two songs can very well be swapped and would also make a lot of sense the other way around :)
We see them slowly switching positions and beliefs throughout the two seasons and the two songs can be used as reference points to the beginning and ending states of their beliefs. the binary oppositions at hand are freedom - duty, honesty - hiding, openness - reservation etc. They share a lot of the same qualities in their cores, but swing very heavily into extremities. An example is Ava who is very honest and direct in the beginning, sharing most of what goes on in her head, to Ava at the end of the second season, who straight up lies to Beatrice and hides her true plans.
There is something incredible about how Ava and Beatrice absorb so much from each other. They are almost like guiding lights to each other, but in such a morally grey world that we cannot actually tell which of the things they absorb are good and which not. We are gays, though, so definitely whatever keeps them together, right?
------
This was my humble analysis, I hope you enjoyed it and if you actually made it this far, I love you and thank you.
Take care, gays.
Drink your water, go outside and do not forget to breathe.
and of course keep begging for #SaveWarriorNun :)

I’m going to make an “analysis” post about this two tiny shots/acting excellence from KTY because I think there is so much to it that it needs to be talked about.
The first one is this:
Tumblr media
When Beatrice tells Ava she doesn’t want to go with Miguel and she’ll see Ava at home, there’s a sadness in her face, a longing plea to not pursue this - to stay in this tiny little bubble they’ve created. Where it’s just them against the world.
The more Ava reaches out to people, the more she sees of the world beyond the two of them, the more Beatrice is afraid Ava will believe what Beatrice believes about herself - that she isn’t good enough. Isn’t valuable enough. Isn’t useful enough.
Isn’t worthy of love, of Ava’s love.
Obviously, this is all in Bea’s head, Ava is in love with her already at this point, we’ve seen it here:
Tumblr media
But to Beatrice, who Ava has pulled out of her shell so much in their time together, there’s still this part of her that is trapped in self-loathing - in the things she was told and the way she was treated growing up.
That she’s no good, that her love is wrong and that she is more of a tool than a person - while Ava has this light and energy that she could never reach or contain or be strong enough to hold on to.
It comes up again here:
Tumblr media
When Ava comments on Beatrice’s “easy on the eyes” line, you can just see how it affects Bea. There’s this rift in Beatrice that you can feel throughout the first two episodes of season 2 - I think in this scene when Ava calls her out for her jealousy and makes this comment, it hurts Bea more than she says because it plays into the doubts in her mind that she’s too wrong, too tainted and too different to ever really have a chance with Ava.
Like if the halo and Adriel and the OCS and all of it fell away, why would Ava go for someone like her when she could have literally anyone?
It’s just little things (I could make a whole post about Alba’s acting choices too because they’re both so fucking talented it’s altered my brain on the importance of performance) but these subtle things are a part of what make these two and their love story so special.

Watch beatrice allowing herself to be selfish for the first time in a long time.
Ever since she became a nun she convinced herself her desires didn't matter. She had been a mean to her parent's political agenda and then she became a mean to the OCS's ends.
She had fought against it first "how can we be here just to fulfill some God's providence?" but being sent to that boarding school, stripped from everything she loved, being told what she wanted was sinful, made her surrender and think that maybe [maybe], existence was meant that way "things change when you realise not everything is about you".
She stopped asking God for help, even for forgiveness, who was she to merit his mercy? She prayed in a depersonalized way, repeating the words she had been taught, over and over again.
Then it came Ava. The girl who was the living proof that she had been wrong this whole time. Sure, at first Ava's selfishness annoyed her. Who was she to think she was greater than what God had put in her path? "whatever you want is insignificant" she wanted to tell her, the same way she had been told.
The truth was, however, she envied Ava's rebellion. Even though she had agreed to help them, in her daily life Ava did nothing but to please herself (she had been able to witness that in The Alps). She ate not to feed herself but to taste the flavors, she took showers not to keep clean but because she loved feeling water falling on her back, she read books not to learn but because they entertained her, she asked Bea silly questions about herself because, quoting "I really want to know you better".
Ava knew the world didn't revolve around her, Bea had realized that one sleepless night they got to have a deep conversation (for once) while staring at the ceiling. But the thing is... Ava didn't care. She would make the world hers if she could, "what's the point of being here if you can't have a crump of joy?" she had casually told her. "What's the point of being here..." yes, Bea had also asked herself that.
So watching her lying there, full of blood and lifeless... It wasn't fair. "I know the world its hard and unforgiving" she really knew it, she had learnt it from a young age "and I know that warrior nuns die" but it was not ANY warrior nun, it was ava, she wanted to live why couldn't HE give her that? "But please don't leave me" she would be alone again without her "I don't WANT you to die" she really didn't, she desired with every fiber of her body to keep her to herself, to touch her, to feed her, to talk to her, to love her, to make her hers. She WANTED Ava, she had never wanted anything more.
Why couldn't she have her? Why was God taking Ava away from her? Who was God to decide? It was unfair. Maybe she was not the center of the universe, she didn't fucking care, it was still unfair.
If ava hadn't woken up she would've hated God.
"God knows what's best for us" does he really? "For those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" then why have you forsaken me? "You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions." Wrong, there could be nothing more holy than wanting Ava.
"Give her back. Give her back. Give her back" She repeated to herself as she was holding her in her arms. "I've never asked you anything for myself but give her back to me" just this time, for all the times she didn't ask, for all the desires she put aside, for all that she had been enduring since she was sent to that boarding school.
And then Ava wakes up. "I'd like to avoid thay myself" she says, sure she does. And she hugs her because she can, and she touches her face because she can, she finally holds her because she can, because it is what Ava wants, and because "who is she to deny that to Ava?". Having her in her arms alive, she finally looks up, "thank you for not taking her away from me... don't you dare do it again" she thinks. Except... he does.

Remember how in S1 Beatrice was so heartbroken upon the idea of leaving the OCS? How she begged Mother Superior to not transfer her because "the OCS is my family, too"?
The first thing that would've come to mind about her leaving on S2 would be that she's doing it because of what Ava said to her: that she has to finally live her life. However, I want you to consider this:
On S1, she has a family on the OCS: Shannon, Mary, and Lilith. People she pretty much grew up with, who had her back and who she could trust. When we get to S2, all of them have left the order one way or another.
Yes, Beatrice still has Camila and Mother Superion, but 1. As much as she loves Camila, their bond probably isn't as strong as with the sisters she's known for years, and 2. Yes, I know Mother Superion started to show more affection and patience towards the sisters as we got in the season but remember that she was cruel with the new recruits (cruel enough that the own Beatrice nicknamed her Cruella de Jesus, come on!). Bea probably respected her as an authority figure, but the affective bond was new.
Beatrice leaving the OCS might seem out of character at first but, actually, it simply shows her growth. While probably there was a part of her who wanted (or felt like she had to) stay and help to regrow/reform the order; she's realized that her place isn't there anymore and that this time, she doesn't have to put her 'duties' over her true desires. No one is asking her to do it but, more importantly, she isn't asking herself so either.
Addition I didn't know how to write properly: Yes I love Avatrice and I think a lot of Beatrice's actions/changes were caused by their relationship, but Bea's story arch isn't solely related to her coming out/exploring romance/being with Ava. Not everything is about romantic love.

Heyyyy since there's talk of the Breezepelt Attacking Poppyfrost scene going around, I just wanna remind people that he explicitly does that because he was groomed by the Dark Forest. Jayfeather points it out on the page that Breezepelt's stated motivation doesn't make sense, because it's not actually a rational idea Breezy-P came up with. It's then shown that actual factual evil demons are exploiting the anger he has from being a victim of child abuse, to indoctrinate and manipulate him into radical violence
I wrote a little essay about this with citations and stuff. It wasn't "for no reason," and anyone who tries to use the scene as "evidence" of Breezepelt being Secretly Evil to justify the abuse he underwent as a kid either didn't read it, has bad reading comprehension skills, or is cherrypicking on purpose.
Crowfeather emotionally and physically abused his child, Breezepelt was socially alienated by WindClan as a result, which leads to this moment. That is what is on the page.

Warning: mentions of sexual violence.
Why do certain episodes of violence in Warrior Nun seem oddly sexual?
When Adriel tries to take the Halo, for example.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he shoves his hand into Ava. The way he smiles cruelly, and mocks her when she tries to resist him. He looks awfully satisfied with the situation.
Then, in season 2, there's a reverse situation. Ava forcibly penetrates Adriel's mind, and looks as if she's having an orgasm while he screams in pain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, there are others.
Adriel giving Areala the Halo. Ava's comment about something being shoved into her body against her will proved eerily on point. Look at how Adriel roughly grabs Areala, and thows her on her front like a ragdoll. Then, he rips the back of her armor open, and shoves the Halo into her, kneeling behind her while she's on all fours. He ignores her cry of agony completely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scene in S2E8 is probably the most obvious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks as though a scene from someone's rather disgusting non-con smut fanfiction is about to take place.
Lastly, I'll mention this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's nothing overtly sexual about this scene, but still, there's something I and others see.
I see how most of these have Adriel. I'll choose to believe it's to illustrate his cruelty, and the way people around him are nothing but means to an end for him. As, I'm a huge fan of his, I'd rather not have it sullied.
By the way, yes, I understand why the creators probably chose this vibe - it's a wonderful, visceral way to portray how brutally invasive certain situations are (the Halo, or Ava looking into Adriel's mind). Not sexually, just invasive. Brilliant visuals, and a brilliant job by the actors.

Bea smiling when she leaves the OCS, i think means two things: She still believes Ava might be out there (cause like they witnessed Lilith literally dying and returning from the other side). And that she has decided for the first time in her life — as Ava wished — to go on the journey to discover herself and find out what SHE wants to do, and to live and enjoy life.
It just now hit me — seeing Bea making this choice, and her smile — how much it meant. Op mentioned it showing she finally had realised her self worth is not dependent on her skills, but rather she has a worth just as a person. And how it was Ava and the sisters who had showed her that.
I’m not even gonna start to think of what it’d been like if netflix (derogatory) had cut out this scene. (Well shit i did).
It might have led us to assume she’d become stuck again. Possibly blaming herself and becoming even more repressed than before. But instead she decided to follow Ava’s wish and finally start freeing herself. I believe she is positive they will meet again, someday.
I am so freaking grateful for Simon fighting to keep this scene.
Tumblr media
Bonus point: aw Camila looks pretty sad here :(

I also just have to talk about this GIF from the training scene because it gets me every single time. It’s different from the other comfort scenes we’ve seen so far (the hug in 1×03, the “Can you feel my hand?” in Shannon’s room, and the smile in the back of the van) because Ava is just stunned.
Tumblr media
She was starting to panic inside the wall, begging for Beatrice to “bring [her] out.” Then, when it seems she’s gotten stuck, Ava hits the ground hard and lies hunkered down on her elbows, eyes closed and just trying to catch her breath. A moment later, Beatrice’s hands are on her shoulders and Ava flinches.
Given the way Frances abused and manhandled her in the orphanage, Ava is likely expecting something similar here – for Beatrice to haul her upright and tell her to try again (or worse, lecture her on her performance). But then Beatrice is cupping her face like a child’s, comforting her, soothing her. “It’s okay,” she says. “You did it.”
And Ava just looks up at her in astonishment, like she doesn’t know what she’s seeing. She blinks, processing, as Beatrice strokes her hair, and it’s like you can see the fear leave her eyes.
Because in those words, in that gesture, is “I’ve got you”, “You’re safe”, and “You can trust me.” It’s an affirmation of faith given and faith proven – of Beatrice’s trust in Ava’s success and Ava’s trust in Bea to see her through.
“Thank you,” Ava breathes.
It’s the only thing she can say because Beatrice has come to her aid again, is taking care of her again, and that feeling is still so new and strange, and overwhelming, but it’s also the tenderest thing in the world.
Ava’s gotten a glimpse of Beatrice’s combat skills – she knows the damage she’s capable of inflicting – but in the cradle of Beatrice’s hands is the safest she’s ever been.
Beatrice will not hurt her.
