i did some painting again! her face and hair look weirdly similar in this picture, even though the face is red-shadows-to-light-orange-highlights and the hair is purple-shadows-to-red-highlights.
at least i haven't lost my touch wrt basic wet blending, that purple on the cloak came together pretty nicely.
not sure what color the rest of her outfit should be. except obviously the pelt is gonna be fur. suggestions?

In anticipation for the Magnificent Mansion reveal next week, here are my ideas and decorations for the rooms:
Jester: like her childhood bedroom! There had to have been a reason for Caleb to ask to see it like that, right? Maybe the painting on the canopy moves, and the sheets on the bed are the royal green of the Traveler? There are hidden dicks everywhere, and the drawings on the walls are of the Nein and their adventures together. An easel with lots of pain, and a small shelf with romance novels (and some other things mixed in too).
Caduceus: it has to look like the Blooming Grove, right?? Stone walls like the inside of the temple, grass and flowers poking through the cracks and the windowsills, outside the window is the blushing cemetery. Maybe healthier than the last time they were there, an image of perfection, a prediction of what it looks like now that his family has completed their quest? A shrine to the Wildmother in the corner. A small station for him to make his tea. A mat for him to pray.
Fjord: I’m thinking that it would look like the captains quarters on a ship, but better? Like, polished oak walls, like being in a barrel. Gold trim, soft sheets. Also a shrine to the Wildmother. I don’t know if you can make individual sounds in the mansion, but it would sound like waves lapping against the side of the boat and the creaking of old, treated wood. The windows have shutters, because we know how Fjord feels about shutters.
Yasha: painted sort of how Jester painted her room in the Xhorhouse, but there’s more variation in the flowers, and it’s mainly things and fauna they’ve seen on their travels and they move like they’re caught in a gentle breeze. There’s a woman with long white hair braided with flowers around her shoulders, her back is to the rest of the room, so you can’t see her face. The ceiling, much like the mural on Jester’s canopy bed, is like a moving landscape because she likes to be outside, and lying on the bed staring up it changes from a starry nigh sky to a sunset to a sunrise to a stormy sky to a clear sky etc. A small shrine to the Stormlord, with lightning/storm imagery. A place to keep her harp. A tribute to Molly, like his coat as patterned wallpaper or something.
Beau: I can’t decide if her room would be like a bar or like a library, but I know that there will be lots of books and it might kind of be in the same theme as her Cobalt Soul/ Expositor colours. It’ll probably be more like a library though, with a personal bar with the rowdy sound of patrons in the background. Maybe a personal training area, or mini obstacle course, or one of those sand-bag dummies just to keep her occupied all the time? I don’t know, Beau’s kinda hard to do compared to the others.
Veth: I feel like he would give her the opportunity to rebuild her collections that she used to have! Lots of buttons and jewelry and things, maybe made as a collage on the walls. Somewhere for her to feel safe. I mean, they all want to feel safe, but I feel like after being a gobin for so long, Caleb would want Veth to feel like she has a home that she really belongs in. Soft cushions! Lots of pillows! Sequins and colour and frills! Judging by the clothes she buys, she would really appreciate colour and soft fabrics and stuff.
Caleb: I honestly don’t think he’d have a lot of expression in his room. Like, even though it’s his own home and it’s magically formed and stuff, it would still be in his usual monochromatic browns and greys nd stuff, you know? Maybe a portrait of his mother and father or a portrait of the Nein? I don’t know. It wouldn’t be quite as full of the love and thought that he would have put into the other Nein’s rooms.
(And thanks to @ cool-and-friendly for reminding me: Frumpkin absolutley has a room for himself that is the biggest cat jungle the world has ever seen, and similar to Scanlan and Pike’s room in Campaign 1, it’s connected by a door in the middle so they can visit/see eachother at any point, and Frumpkin can actually roam around freely without Caleb having to bamf him everywhere. Oh, the cat jungle?? IS ACTUALLY JUNGLE THEMED. I don’t know anything about cats but I’m assuming you mean like, those climbing huts??? Yeah. Real cool idea.)
I don’t know. This kind of went off on a tangent, but I’ve just been thinking about it and I wanted to lay all my thoughts down on paper before next episode so I can see how close or how far away I was. I think I might have got Jester’s room kinda right because of the conversation this ep, but who knows? Let me know what you think about my analysis!! I’d appreciate your thoughts!

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E86 (Nov. 26, 2019)
And we’re off! Tonight’s guests are the long-awaited Ashley Johnson and Matt Mercer! “Tonight, Ashley’s back, Ashley’s back, and Ashley’s back... we’ll break it all down tonight with my guest, Ashley.”
Announcements: Pretty new dice and pinup calendar now in the store! The recording of the Austin live show (The Adventures of the Darrington Brigade!) will be streaming on Twitch on Friday at 7 PM Pacific, and the VOD will be available on YouTube on Sunday! The fundraising campaign with OSD is still live! There will be no episode of Critical Role this week and no episode of Talks Machina next week because of the holiday.
Even a brief Meat Loaf digression can’t stop us, so it’s time for...
Episode 86: The Cathedral
Stats for this week’s episode: Yasha was under Obann’s control for 59 days. Obann is Yasha’s 14th HDYWTDT. Caleb set the campaign record for most damage dealt in a single turn: 449 damage. Matt rolled his 120th Natural 20 this campaign against Cad’s Blight spell on the caedogeist.
While Ashley was away, there were a few different paths that could’ve dictated how things would’ve gone while she was away: being under Obann’s sway meant she mostly got updates from Matt about what was happening, and Ashley would give her reactions to those experiences (Matt references the Purple Man in Jessica Jones for how twisted her perception was). Ashley: “Matt gave me a breakdown of things that have been happening in our world, Obann and the caedogeist and the Laughing Hand and Yasha. It’s heavy, but I feel like it really was the best way to leave the campaign, it felt a little bit more organic than even the last time, with Pike.” Matt and Ashley both emphasize that there’s a connection between Obann and Yasha pre-campaign.
Matt knew from the beginning that there would be a Tharizdun-based narrative, but he let the tie-ins to this particular story evolve naturally. “I knew there would be an aspect of Tharizdun essentially catfishing a bunch of other cults.”
How aware was Yasha of what she was doing? “I believe she was fully aware, just no control of her body or the things that she was doing.” But having Obann as her only companion for so long was definitely a factor. Matt: “It wasn’t like he took control of you and was like, do my bidding. He was very, trying to talk her up. ‘You’re chosen for a reason, you’re special, you’re one of the harbingers chosen for the angel...’ It’s a very fucked-up relationship.”
Based on who the group spoke to in Zadash, they could’ve had some help from the Gentleman, Dolan, the High Richter... but things happened to throw down in Pumat’s shop. “You know, he’s already been pulled into this fray a bit. I already have the minis painted...” Dani points out that his presence brought some much-needed levity. Until the end of the episode, at least...
Whose reactions are Yasha most worried about? Beau, after the way the fight went. “That was one of the most stressful moments I’ve ever had in a game.” Ashley texted Brian in the middle of the game: “If I’d killed Beau I’d have just killed myself.” Especially after what happened with her wife, and all the lives she’s taken, that would have been the last straw. She’s also aware that there’s tension with Fjord. “I think even before there was some distrust that Fjord had with Yasha a bit. But I think still with everybody, it’s knowing what she’s done at this point, and just playing against them and fighting them. She’ll deal with the weight of that for a while, and just be like, how can I make it up to you?” Ashley does want to find a way to turn it around to make Yasha a little bit happy in there. “I was just like, oh, I’ve made something very sad!”
The dispel wasn’t a sure thing by any means. “I had set it as a fifth-level domination effect for the purposes of dispelling. There was a chance that they were going to succeed and destroy the shackle and continue on to wherever the next one would be, in which case Yasha would carry on with them.” In that case, Ashley could’ve played an ancillary character in the meantime. Even if Obann had been killed, that connection would’ve remained, but his fear at the end of his life was the Chained Oblivion’s punishment awaiting: the removal of his fiendish form.
Cosplay of the Week! Ashley sings a new theme song: “Sew it all together! (deadpan) Take a picture.” This week’s winner was an amazing Vax, WittyWyndi on Twitter!
“I think, of course, being herself again and being in control of all of her actions, I think there is an element of wanting to run because you’re not wanting to deal with the problems, but I think she’s been doing it for so long... I think she’s very afraid to be alone. And that was one of the things that kept coming up in all the games and things Matt was telling me. Man, if I think about the future of this character, and if she comes out of this, what would you feel, being under someone’s influence and then being around your family? I don’t want to be alone, I don’t want to be alone.” Brian: “Isolation is an incubator that turns mistakes into habits.” Ashley: “I feel like I relate to that, because as a hermit and a very introverted person, I feel like my go-to is to run away or say I’m not going to deal with this. So maybe that’s a little therapy in the game, can I sit in this and still be with people who are upset with me? Obviously it’s being in a community and dealing with people, that’s a much better way than to deal with something alone. I’m going to try to tackle that in the game and see. Who knows, she might freak out and just run.”
Ashley, on coming back to the west coast for good: “I feel like I’ve been away at sea.” Brian: “Yeah, NBC.”
Gods are more present in this campaign only because there are much more deity-connected characters. Matt tries to avoid too much divine influence in his campaigns to make sure players still have the majority of the agency and don’t tend to use it as a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Comcast is installing fiber in my neighborhood and brief service outages may occur. This fun fact brought to you by the little spinning wheel that just interrupted Matt for a minute. Thanks, Comcast.
More gods in a campaign means more complications on Matt’s end. “There are a lot of deities in the Pantheon, and there are lesser idols in the world, entities that aren’t gods per se but that hold elements of some divine power. Playing in that space is fun, but I don’t want to overcrowd it necessarily.”
On getting the kill on Obann: “It was just so exciting to come back to the table, and you love the HDYWTDT moment from Matt, but I think for Yasha there’s a lot of weirdness to it. Just because you kill the thing that has been torturing you doesn’t mean you’re free from that trauma. I don’t think she’s satisfied yet.” But it was super satisfying for Ashley as a player!
There was a part of Matt that wanted Obann to survive a little longer, because there was “more shit he could do.” If he’d managed to get four people into place, it would’ve immediately started the ritual, those four would have been paralyzed and their AC would have been dramatically boosted, and the M9 would have had one round to try to stop it by killing one of the people in the square before everyone involved in the ritual would have been instantly killed. Brian: “You’re a sick and twisted and terrible man and I want to kiss you.”
Fan Art of the Week: an amazing Yasha in the cathedral by Neverdraws on Twitter!
If the party had revealed who Obann was really working for (he was unaware up until the very end), that was potentially a different direction things could have gone. Ashley: “Yasha doesn’t know yet.” Matt: “The only thing Yasha knows about the Angel of Irons is what it did to Obann.”
Ashley asked Matt whether Yasha would know whether the other members of the party were controlled, and Matt had her roll to see what she picked up on. Matt: “It may come out in the game.”
The description of the new breastplate was just to emphasize that Obann had kitted her out to help her be a stronger ally for him. Whether she keeps it is up to her.
Which of the changes in the M9 are going to take the most getting used to? “This feels a little bit like me coming home, where it’s like you’re away for a while, then you’re like, things are so different. I think it’s just adjusting. She’ll see the relationships, the tattoos, Fjord’s-- the accent thing we didn’t get into in game the other night, but Yasha noticed. We’ll see how it plays out in game and how everyone treats Yasha and how everyone responds to that, whether it’s positive reinforcement or negative. I feel like the positive reinforcement’s going to be tougher.”
On people getting emotionally attached to NPCs: “It catches me off-guard sometimes. I’m just excited that people are as invested in them as I am. With that particular Pumat moment, it made me excited that everyone else was as OH GOD NO at the table as I was.”

Critical Role Miniature Rollout: C2E89
With Andrew Harshman
An archive and review of the minis used on Critical Role.
Tumblr media
To be clear, I think this episode is fantastic. I think the map and miniature compositions look great on camera. At a distance, on film, all the chosen minis look good. However, when closely examined, some are better looking than others. The criticism I level at some of the models is directed at the manufacturers of said models. I am not criticizing Critical Role.
In most campaigns, a random underground fighting pit encounter could be very boring. With little impact on the characters or plot. The CR cast is so talented and entertaining however that even a simple side quest unrelated to the main plot is super engaging. Mighty fine stuff.
Place ya bets, place ya bets, it’s time for Critical Role Miniature Rollout Campaign 2 Episode 89!

The Clones
Tumblr media
Time for another conspiramini conspiracy theory. Just seven episodes ago these members of the crowd were seen in the Halas cloning lab. The presence of these figures makes me a little uneasy. What is Halas planning with his clone army of blood sport serial gamblers? Again, obligatory disclaimer, I’m not especially serious about or invested in this idea. But who knows how I’ll feel after two or three more Halas sightings.
The Nonplayer Characters
Tumblr media
Baldur's Gate Descent Into Avernus #034 Sylvira Savikas
I’m not familiar with this Descent Into Avernus NPC, but she must be important to have warranted such a quality miniature. Good detail work on the clothing paint, neatly painted eyes, a dandy little translucent effect on the orb accessory. The best thing about this miniature is the core concept. A tiefling noble woman? Amazing. Exactly what my NPC collection needed.
Tumblr media
Kingmaker #021 Tristian, Human Cleric and Storm King's Thunder #007 Crag Ungart
Two miniatures with terrible faces. NPC minis in noncombat poses are inherently useful and somewhat uncommon, so these are not a total write-off. At least Tristain has a pretty sleek outfit. A white tone cleric outfit that reminds one of Saturday Night Fever. Clergy Knight Fever, if you will.
Crag Ungart looks like a character equipped with a disastrous combination of Skyrim mods. Such an awkward character design. This dude’s head is almost perfectly spherical, just like his armor. Not to mention, what kind a name is Crag? It’s like the dwarven equivalent of Craig. I assumed this model was of some canon D&D NPC, but I can’t find any information on him. It’s like Wizards of the Coast made him up, ordered the manufacturing of this mini, and just lost interested. I can’t blame ‘em, this is a wholly uninteresting character.
Tumblr media
Waterdeep Dragon Heist #012a Dragonborn Draconic Sorcerer
So I think this is a decent pose. But I’m distracted by the awful Icon of the Realms orange dragonborn scale color. Has anyone ever played an orange dragonborn? Wizkids must be sitting on a surplus of VLC Media Player Orange. Really no other reason to use this pigment.
I am totally here for akimbo spellcaster minis. But this sculpt is just a tad too awkward. And these spellcasting focuses are lame looking. They could have done better than a hiking stick and an oversized wishbone. I really like the outfit though.
Tumblr media
Kingmaker #010 Shadow Rogue and Guildmasters' Guide to Ravnica #017 Blood Drinker Vampire  Blood Drinker Vampire image sourced from minisgallery.com
Shadow Rouge, is a great name for a cosmetic product. Shadow Rogue on the other hand is an almost great miniature. The sculpt detail on everything but the face and hands is tight. It is unclear whether the model itself lacks finger and face definition or if the definition is being obscured by caked on paint. Unfortunate. Unrelated, crop top is my new favorite rogue subclass.
Blood Drinker Vampire is another quality noncombat NPC. Also another mini with rough face and hand detail. The paint is messy, the sculpt is blobby and ill-defined. I can’t help but like it though. This pose and costuming are very amusing. MC Hammer pants and Hammer Horror collar. I’m very into beverage consuming minis in general. For all its flaws, I still recommend this figure.
Tumblr media
Giants of Legend #09 Aramil, Adventurer
This miniature was included in a 3.5 basic boxed set, released in D&D Miniatures Game booster packs, and later recast and repainted in the 4E Player’s Handbook Heroes series. It’s good. The detail in the sculpting is very impressive. But the flat paint lets down those details. A little highlight and drybrush work would go a long way.
Tumblr media
Pathfinder Battles Iconic Heroes Set 8 Meligaster Halfling Mesmerist
I like this hombre. I like his hat. I like the fun patterns on his cloak. I like that the Pathfinder wiki is informing me that the thing in his right hand is a sword cane. That’s rad.
Tumblr media
Elemental Evil #015 Gold Dwarf Guard Gold Dwarf Guard image sourced from minisgallery.com
An incredibly boring dwarf. Messy paint, wonky base, forgettable character design. The fight club champion deserves a better mini. As for this mini, let’s not talk about it. On an unrelated note, how’d Yasha’s sword handle get bent?
Tumblr media
Waterdeep Dragon Heist #011 Human Sun Soul Monk
Quality beard, quality dreads, quality pose. If Khary Payton’s Walking Dead character was a monk, he’d look like this mini. The paint is about as sloppy and flat as Gold Dwarf Guard. But the face looks way better and the colors are bright and vibrant, making for a far more attractive model. The mold line is rough, but forgivable given all the miniature’s strengths.
Tumblr media
Dungeons of Dread #35 Human Fighter
This dude has some tiny feet, distractingly so. Maybe it’s some sort of stealth feet feat? The sculpt and paint conveys numerous textures quite effectively. The scaly metal, the flowy cloth, the leathery gloves and boots. This is a very crisp model with magnificent sculpt resolution. Looking at the back of the miniature you can see the fighter’s individual fingers grasping the sword handle. Since this is an older miniature, we know that these digits were physically sculpted and not 3D modeled. Wildly impressive.
Closing Thoughts and Predictions
Next session I am anticipating some sort of random travel encounter. Possibly in the form of a teleportation mishap or a Xhorhasian countryside monster battle. Very glad the break is almost over, eager to see whether the Mighty Nein can facilitate a peace deal.

Critical Role: Jester
“I use Thaumaturgy to open all the windows.”
Tumblr media
“Click “keep reading” for more photos and a description of my Jester magic box! :)
First of all, I adore Jester, because who doesn’t? Second, I’ve been wanting to fill a box with glitter and rhinestones and unicorns for ages, so of course I was waiting for the opportunity to make a Jester box. This box was a bit different for me as I usually work with darker wood, and I had to fight my instincts the entire time to sand the whole box and stain it darker, even though I knew that the lighter wood color would fit better.
Tumblr media
I decided to try wood burning for the first time on the lid, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but I love how it came out. I wanted it to look a bit unpolished, so I fought my instincts (again) to go over it and make it look perfect. I decided to go with the Traveler symbol because, while it’s not the entirety of her character, her relationship with the Traveler shaped who Jester is in a big way. (Also, the gems are inset, which was another thing I learned for this box and can’t wait to do again!)
Tumblr media
The inside lid is definitely a contrast to the simplicity of the outside, with Jester’s spiritual weapon and guardians, plus loads of pink and sparkles.
Three of the big things I knew I wanted to include were Jester’s sketchbook, her Haversack, and a little Traveler statue like the ones she’d made with her paints. The sketchbook, of course, is green, and filled with some of the sketches Jester has done, the Moon tarot card, and a tiny Traveler pamphlet; The tiny Traveler mini has been hand-painted my me, his face hidden as always by his signature green cloak.
Tumblr media
The haversack is full of donuts, gold coins, pastries, and perhaps a romance novel, among other things, such as her pearl of power, a charm for Kiri with a black feather, dagger and heart (stamped with “I am very sweet”), a green ribbon from Calianna, and the sapphire necklace from her Mom.
Tumblr media
As far as stones go, there aren’t as many in this box as in some of the others. Like Caduceus, I ended up with barely enough room to fit in all the things I wanted, so I left the crystals for last and worked with the tiny amount of space I had remaining. There’s an aqua aura quartz tower (for help processing emotional disturbances, grief and trauma) and a rose quartz tower (for unconditional love), as well as prehnite, a healing stone that focuses on people who heal others, moonstone for mischievousness and illusion, and kunzite for help processing emotional trauma, releasing fear and grief and promoting peace. There’s also pink tourmaline and a rhodonite heart for healing, support, and joy, chalcedony for nurturing and trying to bring harmony to others, amazonite for using creativity and art as a communication device and to help with emotional difficulties.
Tumblr media
Now for the potions! These were a ton of fun, and also an interesting challenge. Initially, I came up with themes super quickly (which was blessedly a contrast from Fjord and Caleb, who took FOREVER) but as I worked with them a bit, the things I wanted to convey shifted and I changed directions a few times. Potions 1-3 are in the first photo and potions 4-6 are in the second photo (in order from left to right).
Tumblr media
The first potion is meant to signify Jester’s origins. Her loneliness as a child, having to remain hidden as the daughter of a courtesan, and the Traveler or adults being her only “friends.” She was definitely sheltered, but made the best of it and still viewed her childhood as a positive experience that led to her becoming an agent of chaos via the traveler. There’s heather for solitude and loneliness, rosebud for youth, a mix of sea salt & black salt for being sheltered/overprotected, nutmeg for having to stay hidden, bluebell for mischief and laughter/trickery, calendula for joy, and a daisy for innocence, loyal love, faith, and cheer. There’s also forsythia for anticipation/waiting for adventure, peony for happiness in childhood, and purple carnation for whimsy/capriciousness. It is sealed with the symbol of the Traveler.
Potion number two deals with who Jester is as a person and what is important to her. She is many things: a cleric, an artist, an agent of chaos, a follower of the Traveler, but there’s so much we still don’t know about her despite how open she seems to be. In this potion is acorn for power and wisdom despite youth, cinquefoil for wisdom and being on a journey or quest, olive leaf for searching for a home or family, sage for healing, cedar for strength and confidence in abilities, and goldenrod for magic/divination/scrying. There’s also rose for attracting friends, violet and vervain for creativity, sweet pea for attracting adventure and chaos into one’s life, and buttercup, which has a lot of meanings: naivete, cheerfulness, charm, directness, beauty, and “big things come in small packages.” Sealed with a donut stamp and silver wax.
The third potion is about Jester’s struggle with feeling like she has to be happy all the time and smile her sadness away, or always be available to comfort others. It seems to me like she constantly doubts the validity of her negative feelings even though she doesn’t do the same with others - especially when she’s dealing with fear of being alone/abandoned after being kidnapped and after being in the HFB. On the contrary, though, she’s quick to soothe that doubt in others, whether it’s doubt in her god or the M9’s doubt in themselves. This potion contains pansy for love and spreading happiness (which, to me, is Jester’s love language), chrysanthemum for optimism, baby’s breath for comfort and hiding behind simplicity, yarrow for fear and doubt in oneself, amethyst for fear of abandonment. It also contains chamomile for difficulty dealing with trauma, cypress for grief and loss, and rosemary for protection (specifically, trying to protect and heal her friends in battle and prevent any more loss from happening). Sealed with a crystal heart stamp, silver wax and blue pigment.
Tumblr media
The fourth potion represents Jester’s experience with love and life as almost an outsider. She is unfamiliar with life outside of the Lavish Chateau, and her experience with romance is almost entirely from books and stories. This obviously creates a pretty large disconnect between her and others, as well as leaving her with a lot of doubts in herself, as well as the motivations and actions of others. For example, she doesn’t know how to deal with her feelings for Fjord when he doesn’t react like storybook characters - and she argues with Caleb because she can’t understand that not everyone grew up as privileged as she did. This potion includes hibiscus for romantic love, red rose for storybook ideas of romance, and vervain for wealth, not having to worry about money, and growing up with “culture.” There’s also basil for confusion, and lilac for for growth, representing her journey from ignorance to knowledge and naivete to wisdom. Sealed with a unicorn stamp and silver wax.
Potion number five deals with Jester’s relationship with her mother. her mom, relationship with mom as a child vs as an adult. As a child, Jester didn’t have much companionship beyond her Mother and the Traveler, so she definitely put her mother up on a pedestal (and still does) and saw her as someone who could do no wrong, but now that she’s an adult and has left home, she starts, bit by bit, to see her mother as a whole person. She compares herself to her mother, and definitely seems to feel inferior to someone she’s held up as an ideal of beauty, grace, talent and kindness - but we see her just beginning to acknowledge Marion’s shortcomings and mistakes as part of her character and accept them, as well as have hopes and dreams for her mother as well as herself. There’s pink carnation for mother’s love, red carnation for admiration and “I miss you,” rose quartz for love, pink sea salt for protection and soothing, and lavender for her mom’s perfume. There’s also gold coins for Marion wanting Jester to be comfortable financially, and mugwort for Jester beginning to worry about her mom as an adult and wanting the best for her/wanting her to not have to work anymore. Written in the bottle is “I send a message to my mama,” for all the messages Jester has sent to Marion. Sealed with a ruby stamp and silver wax with red pigment.
Finally, the sixth potion is about her friends. Jester has always shown incredible loyalty and love for her friends. When she says to her mom, “These are some really good people I’m with,” it’s clear she believes in the rest of the Mighty Nein and their goodness even when they don’t.  There’s jasmine for amiability, magnolia for loyalty, zinnia for remembering absent friends (Molly, and Yasha), agrimony for thankfulness, cloves for camaraderie (one for each member of the M9 including Molly). Also included is dogwood for devotion, garnet for familial bonds, and delphinium for levity, fun, big-heartedness, ardent attachment, and joy. Sealed with lollipop stamp and silver wax.
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading! Jester had sold. You can check my “magic boxes” tag to see the rest of my CR magic boxes or see them on my website at unklarity (dot) com! <3

Talks Machina Summary, Episode 51
*SPOILERS*
•100th episode of Talks Machina!
•Opening reminiscent of the potter puppet pals.
•Oh wow, they really went all out on decorations.
•ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Search for Grog will air this Friday, February 22nd. Also, Talks Machina and Critical Role episodes will now air on their own YouTube channel instead of Geek and Sundry.
•Laura is the reason Brian has his beard.
•Brian has embraced the absurdity of a talk show about a D&D campaign.
•Steve Cam (Director of photography I think)
•Matt has learned to be proud of his players for mucking up all of his plans (more so in this campaign than in the last one).
•He has also learned to deal with the insane amount of tragedy each of these characters bring to the table.
•Nott is thrilled that she no longer has to hide her appearance in Xhorhas.
•Zach Cam (Technical director)
•Yasha sympathizes with Nott’s desire to go to Xhorhas to save her husband, but she still has a lot of issues with the place and would prefer not to be there.
•The cast talks about some of their favorite items fans have sent in (Percy mini, Pike painting, etc).
•Jester does not like it when her party uses the derogatory term Kryn because she wants everyone to be happy (even if they aren’t necessarily allies).
•Caleb is just waiting for things with the group to get uncomfortable regarding his backstory
•(BUT HE ALMOST ADMITTED THAT THEY’RE HIS FRIENDS)
•Max Cam (Producer)
•Cad’s “wise sage” archetype was built into the character (high wisdom, low intelligence).
•There are things that will “flap” Cad, but we haven’t seen them yet.
•Fjord is incentivised by tattoos created by a very cute tiefling (at which point Travis said that the above statement was not canon, but here’s to hoping).
•Lockey Cam (Content Producer)
•My phone had issues and I missed a bit, it was something about Beau and Ioun.
•Nott trusts the bugbear.
•Matt had the bugbears as a possible encounter type thing with the roc, but Gluzo was improvised.
•Daniel was not killed with a sword.
•Ed Cam
•Nott trusts her friends to stay strong and isn’t as concerned about losing one of them as she is about losing her husband.
•Fjord is expendable and Nott would use his death as an excuse to drink and party.
•Ashley trusts Travis with playing Yasha.
•However, she also compares Travis to a deck of many things (you never know what you’re going to get), so take that as you will.
•Caleb is DEFINITELY interested in learning some dumamancy magic
•Gilmore never used dunamancy, that time he killed a guy with what resembled dunamancy was actually just a creative use of telekinesis.
•The gang discusses lasik in the most medically accurate terms.
•“When the guy in sales gets too drunk at the Christmas party
•Jester isn’t used to dealing with so much constant trauma (looks at Liam), but she’s enjoying the adventures that she only used to read about before she started travelling with the M9.
•Chris cam
•Caleb sees Nott as an absolute ally no matter what and is still willing to do anything for her. He isn’t put off by the backstory reveal because not being forthcoming is one more thing they have in common. He loves her and hopes that his goals don’t mess anything up for her.
•Caduceus sees Xhorhas as just more terrain and isn’t really aware of the political realities of being in such a place. He’s not really sure why they can’t just walk up and ask for directions
•There was a serious discussion about who would where the tiaras for this episode.
•Brittany Cam (Event coordinator)
•“If you have a problem with compressed air, seek help”
•The Captain Tusk Tooth tattoo is going to stay pretty consistent throughout the campaign.
•People are actually getting Captain Tusk Tooth tattoos.
•“Talks Machina Episode 200: Laura Tattoos the Cast”
•When Beau’s impulsiveness started causing a problem, she kind of backed off. It’s now a matter of accountability and she’s learning.
•Beau/Yasha ship fodder
•The group discusses their favorite Talks Machina episodes.
•Moment of Brian appreciation

guess who picked up their paintbrush again!
behold: Mister Snake Man during and after laying down some base colors
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
step two: highlight the bitch
Tumblr media Tumblr media
step three: add detailwork (snake teeth, breastplate embellishments, face) + Nuln Oil Is Magic + oops all silvery green, in which i realized my completely different techniques of painting the scale and metal parts of the armor made... the scale and metal parts of the armor look the exact same
Tumblr media Tumblr media
step four: Mess With Colors To Create Variety, add more detailwork, more highlights, more metallic silver bits, mess with the colors some more
Tumblr media Tumblr media
step 5 (not pictured): call it a FUCKING day because this mini is the most frustrating thing I've ever painted and no one can tell me this bitch isn't tabletop ready

if I had a nickel for every time a character played by Jonathan Sims narrated a story based around audio footage said character found, culminating in a warning across worlds that the Elder Gods have been unleashed, I'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

folks. listen to me. men are people. they are good and kind and deserving of love. men are people, with depth and hopes and insecurities and hobbies and silly jokes, and if i see one more post about how "you always gotta be a little mean to men" or "be careful not to treat them like real people" i'm going to scream
