Summary: When the most infamous pirate of your time decides it’s time for a new crew member, you and your best friend are awakened into the life of a pirate by your love for the sea
A strong gust of wind surges by, spreading the crisp scent of the open water throughout the air. The sun reflects brightly onto the rippling sea, the vibrant blue of the sky painting the water a stunning shade of turquoise. Waves move up and down the beach front, lightly kissing the shore of the sand before retreating back into the body of water. Various shapes of rocks burn themselves into the pads of your feet upon stepping onto the scorching sand. Another gust of win hits, causing your eyes squint in result of the sudden uplifted particles. A hearty laugh leaves the tanned boy next to you as you cough the uncomfortable feeling from your throat. Deeming this a suitable spot to relax, you remove the large sheet from your bag and lay it out to lounge on. You then proceed to grab your water bottle, taking a large sip with hopes of replenishing your dry throat.
“What’s the matter y/n, the wind too much for you?” Your best friend Jaehyun asks mockingly. He sits down beside you in his raggedy, torn up clothing, beads of sweat trailing down his forehead and neck from the dire heat. His champagne colored hair is pushed back off of his face while his arms are out behind him to support his figure.
“No, I just would like to enjoy my time at the beach without a mouthful of dirty sand, thank you.” You sass back, shaking your head at him and turning to face the ocean once again. There’s not many times that you and Jaehyun are able to spend time together like this. With his job at the local market being his only source of income, Jaehyun works insane amounts of hours and you always find yourself helping out at your family’s souvenir shop. It’s rare that your free times ever overlap. When you both discovered that a change in Jaehyun’s weekly hours meant a meeting between the two of you was possible, you both mutually agreed on a day at the beach.
Ever since you were little, you’ve had an immense love for the sea. The sound of the waves rippling upon the shore, the sun shimmering against the rough waters, the scent of the beach that the wind never fails to waft through the air; all of it has managed to capture your heart for as long as you could remember. Once you and Jaehyun found that you shared such a strong interest, the two of you became inseparable. When life get tough, there’s nothing more appealing than a relaxing day at the beach. There’s nothing the two of you love more than  laying in the sand while watching the cargo ships sail by, with the occasional spotting of some pirates, mermaids, or other mythical sea creatures. Living in a world filled with the supposedly impossible allows for riveting discoveries, meaning your sense of adventure is always alive. You’ll never forget the time that you and Jaehyun accidentally caught a mermaid when trying to fish for products for the market. She was significantly pissed off, but the two of you couldn’t help the snide giggle that escaped once she was out of sight. It’s little experiences like these that further your love for the seaside even more, dreams of sailing the deep blue waters captivating your thoughts for the majority of your life time.
“By the way, did you hear? Yong is making a stop at our island in search of a new recruit for his crew.” Explains Taehyung, his eyes lighting up with childlike excitement regarding the matter; however, you can’t help but freeze. The mention of Yong sends an obvious shiver down your spine, your hands clamming up at the news. Lee Taeyong. The most notorious pirate of your time, famous not only for his achievements, but the mysteries surrounding him. He likes to go by Yong, and some say he’s the most intimidating man they’ve laid eyes upon, his fire red hair being the only feature they gain the courage to look at. It’s a surprise that Yong would visit an island as small as your own in search of a crew member. The man is cold, the rumors that circle about him describing him as none of then seductively deadly. He’ll pull you in, using his endless amount of charms to receive your trust, only to kill you once his finished. The blood that Yong carries on his hands is as red and deep as his hair. Unpalatable, but that’s simply the life of a pirate. There are only seven men that he trusts in this world, and those are his crew members ‘nct’. That number is soon to be increased to eight, and it frightens you thoroughly that the eighth member may be one of your island’s own.
“What could’ve possibly encouraged someone as famous as Lee Taeyong to come here looking for recruits?” You question Jaehyun, the baffled expression on your face failing to leave.
“Well,” Jaehyun starts, leaning in closer and lowering the volume of his voice. “It’s rumored he’s planning to seek out the Island of Baekki in search of the Kki emerald. Maybe it’s because he thinks we’re close?” Jaehyun responds, answering your question with another. Your eyes widen at the mention of the Kki emerald. The infamous tale of the Kki emerald haunts all of the islands in close proximity to yours. Legend has it that with this emerald, you’re given the ultimate power to control all of the life of the sea. Last time someone had this much power over the water, the islands turned into chaos and Poseidon was forced to awaken and hide the emerald where it’d be near impossible to ever uncover again. If that is truly the treasure Yong is after, there’s a huge chance that the towns people may be in significant danger. “I was thinking of maybe going for it...” Jaehyun continues at your lack of answer, breaking you out of your thoughts.
Your face cracks a slight smile, completely positive that he is lying until you look up to see the determination in his eyes, and his face dead serious. “You cannot be serious Jaehyun.” You scold, giving him a chance to answer but continuing on when he doesn’t. “Do you know how stupid that is? Yong’s a pirate! Hell he’s practically THE pirate. What could possibly make you want to succumb yourself to a life like that?”
Silence echoes throughout the beach. The light shuffle of the waves being the only noise as Jaehyun composes an answer in his head. “A life like what?” He asks. “A life where I get to explore the endless parts of the sea while collecting immense amounts of treasure? I’m not well off now y/n... my small job at the market barely pays. Think about how well i’ll be living if I start finding actual treasure!” It’s as if the hope in his eyes is blinding you. You know he’s making sense but you also know that your heart would break without him here.
“Jae... we barely see each other as it is. You have some money, you have a roof to sleep under, you have the sea, you have me...” You begin to trail off. “What more could you possibly need?” You retort in a weak voice, the thought of your best friend leaving you consuming your mind like a dark cloud consumes the sky before a storm.
“I thought you’d understand more than anyone y/n... I love the sea. It’s where my heart is. It’s where my home is. If I could make a living exploring the great blue sea while finding unimaginable treasures in the midst of the exploration, why should I turn that down?” Asks Jaehyun, the child like wonder apparent in his eyes. He has always been quite the optimist, but now more than ever was not the time.
“Pirates are thieves. They make a living by stealing. The treasure that pirates discover is never theirs, it’s always someone else’s stolen riches. Is that how you want to live the rest of your life? Living off the stolen valuables of others?” You retort. Again, Jaehyun stays quiet. It’s clear that your words are resonating within him, but he’s at more of a battle with himself. Just then a flock of birds soar by, their obnoxious shrieks disrupting the tense silence between the two of you. Jaehyun reaches out for one of your hands, prying it open and lightly tracing little shapes into your palm; something that has managed to calm him down since the two of you were young.
“I’m going to volunteer myself y/n. You may not like it, and I get that. You don’t have to. But this is what I want, and I don’t want you to resent me for my decision.” Jaehyun tells you, his hand halting the movements and intertwining itself with yours. His eyes look up at you, his pupils shaking with anxiety. Sure, this is what Jaehyun wants, but he doesn’t know if it’s worth losing you. After yet another minute period of silence, you give his hand a light squeeze.
“I’d never resent you Jae. No matter what.” You reassure, resulting in him sending you a box shaped smile of relief. The boy leans over and nuzzles his head into your neck, letting out a sigh of relief. Vibrant colors paint the sky as the sun begins to set upon the water. You watch in awe as the sky turns into a magnificent canvas of fiery colors, Jaehyun glancing over at you with excitement as well. Watching the beauty of the sunset together makes you wonder how many more times you’ll be able to do this with him before he goes away, if he gets chosen that is. Jaehyun is like your rock. He’s always been by your side, you legitimately can’t remember a time where he wasn’t there. It’s going to be fairly strange to go about your daily life without him there with you; however, you try not to let yourself worry. The best you could do now is hope the Yong doesn’t take a liking to him. If he does, then you know you’re in trouble.
Night rolls around shortly after you depart from the beach, the darkness starting to overcome the sky and forcing the two of you to leave. The air feels significantly cooler after the natural disappearance of the sun, the temperature sending chills throughout your body. Night life begins to awaken in your tiny town as you and Jaehyun begin walking back, people staggeringly making their way onto the streets to attend the bars or restaurants open. Following the tall boy in front of you’s lead, the two of you make your way to the cozy little ally way you’ve managed to find comfort in all these years. Though you and Jaehyun do often find yourselves enjoying a rambunctious night at the bar, some nights are reserved for undisturbed secluded time for the two of you to just talk with one another. An old battered up light marks the entrance of your little hang out, Jaehyun grabbing your hand and picking his pace up to a jog once he sees it. The united noise of the town leisurely pipes down to a more muted one the further you stray. As the two of you enter the ally way, you’re shocked to spot a man hunched over, head in his knees towards the back of the darky. Becoming heavily alert, Jaehyun pushes you fully behind him and makes his way towards the suspicious man. Crime is rare in your town, but you never know what could happen. Looking at you silently for advice, you just shrug your shoulders; completely baffled by the man as well.
“Um, excuse me, sir? Are you ok?” Jaehyun asks, bending his tall frame down slightly so that he could be more level with the crouched male. Said male looks up at the sound of a voice, and you swear your heart jumps to your throat. The man definitely looks to be in his early twenties, a black beanie sits upon the top of his head while his eyes are a deep, chocolate brown. His jawline is very defined, while the rest of his body that is noticeable from his raggedy clothing is fairly slim, but muscular. A man this beautiful is rare in a town like this, but you are nonetheless content to see him.
“Oh yeah, I’m fine. Just wanted to get away from the energy of the town for a little bit, you know?” The stranger says, his smooth, deep voice flowing from his mouth like honey.
“Hey, that’s why we’re here! Mind if we sit with you?” Jaehyun questions excitedly, not giving the stranger a chance to even answer before plopping down next to him.
“Sure I guess.” The man laughs, the sound making your stomach flutter with butterflies. No man has ever had such an initial effect on you before, and while it should be mildly concerning, you can’t find it in yourself to be angered by it.
“So what’s your name?” Jaehyun initiates conversation once again. The man looks surprised at such a question, but hurriedly recollects himself and responds.
“Um Tae. Yours?” His hesitance to answer alludes to your curiosity, wondering why this stranger would consider being asked for a name odd.
“I’m Jaehyun, nice to meet you!” Jaehyun exclaims, grabbing his hand and shaking it instantly. After the forced handshake, Taehyung finally looks past Jaehyun and sets his sights upon you.
“And what about the beautiful lady here?” Tae asks, his way of addressing you promptly spreading pink across your cheeks.
“Y/n.” You respond with a delicate voice, watching in complete awe as his perfect face molds into a smile. His head cocks to the side, his tongue swiping across his dry lips to moisten them. You watch his movements with intense eyes, his every action managing to get a small response out of you.
“A pretty name for a pretty girl.” He responds smugly, his gaze lingering on you a moment before turning back to talk to Jaehyun. You open your mouth to respond, but your words run dry. All coherent thought that you’ve had up to this moment dissipates, the man in front of you inducting your attention completely. This swarm of rather complex emotions consuming your mind at the moment tune you out of the two men’s conversation, Tae’s mysterious persona utterly entrancing you. Curiosity stirs in your mind, the desire to learn more about ‘Tae’ becoming overwhelming. You wonder what his history is, where he’s come from, and so much more. While it occurs to you that he could have just traveled here with the intention of joining Yong’s crew, you decide to remain optimistic and hope against it being the truth.
“Right y/n?” Calls out Jaehyun, tearing your from your assortment of thoughts. A fair pink blush coats your cheeks, embarrassed after being caught zoning out.
“Sorry I kind of zoned out, what were we talking about?” You ask. Tae watches with a small chuckle, finding you to be quite endearing, while Jaehyun smiles almost knowingly, promptly informing you that they were talking about their love for the sea.
“Oh yeah, Jaehyun and I have spent our time there from a young age. We’re practically inseparable from the water.” You blurt out, still not fully calmed down from your previous awkwardness.
“I’m the same way. The allure of the water is the reason I traveled for hours to come attempt to join Yong’s crew, you know the pirate? There’s nothing that sounds more appealing to me than sailing the deep blue seas with one of the most successful pirates of our time.” Tae claims, a passionate look in his eyes. Figures that’s the reason he’s here. It’s rare that you meet someone that you don’t already know in your extremely low populated town, so it makes sense that he’s traveled. While you can’t help but be the tiniest bit upset that this is most likely all you’re going to see of Tae, you aren’t necessarily shocked at his confession.
After the initial meeting in the alley way, the three of you decide to explore around town a little bit and head down to show Tae the beach. The sun’s completely set now and the outsides of buildings are lit by their artificial night lighting. The air is cool, the breeze brushing past sending a slight chill to your skin. Walking in a straight line throughout the short streets, talking about anything and everything, the three of you finally arrive at the beach. Of course you love the beach all of the time, but there’s something about the feel of the sand and the look of the water at night that just makes nighttime so captivating. The beach is empty except for you and a few others, the only noise being the rippling of the waves. It’s peaceful. Footprints paint the sand as your group walks along the shore, the water coming in far enough sometimes to kiss faintly at your feet. The strong breeze sends your hair flying, the wind pushing against your body. Light conversation is shared throughout the stroll, but for the most part the three of you spend your time simply admiring the view. The vastness and ambiguity of the ocean is just so fascinating to all of you. Jaehyun stands on your right while Tae stands on your left. Occasionally you’ll find Tae’s hands brushing against yours, each time giving you another reason to break into a small smile. The full moon’s radiance is shimmering onto the water, creating a peaceful glow across the beach. Once you’ve walked up and down one full time, the three of you decide to call it a night.
“Well guys, it’s been fun. But we better get going, it’s a big day tomorrow.” Jaehyun says. He tries not to let it show, but you’ve known him long enough to hear the anxiety in his voice. Being a part of Yong’s crew means a lot to him, and although you don’t want him to go, deep down you know you’d feel upset for him if he didn’t get chosen.
“Yeah, you’re right. It was really nice meeting the two of you, hopefully I’ll get to see you again.” Tae says, pulling each of you in for a hug. You watch with a heavy heart as Tae makes his way up the sand towards the rest of civilization, your mind already yearning to hear his voice once more. Downcast overcomes you as you realize that was the first and most likely last time you’ll ever see him. You only met him for a short amount of time, but that was all that your heart needed in order to fall for him. You’ve never met anyone but Jaehyun whose shared your immense love for the water, and your array of similarities with Tae made him all the more appealing. Jaehyun walks next to you in silence, a knowing look on his face. Years of knowing you has taught him how to read you extremely well, and he knows just how exciting and just how upsetting this night has been for you.
“Well, goodnight y/n. I guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings, huh?” Jaehyun says. He reaches out his long arms and pulls you in for a hug. “And don’t be too upset ok? I’m sure you’ll meet someone just as perfect as Tae seemed when the time is right.” Jae says, rubbing your arms a few times before releasing you. Giving him a slight nod, you make your way into your house and into your room. Jaehyun is right. If you’re meant to see Tae again, you will.
-
Sunlight peaks through the curtains in front of your window, almost pinching at your skin. The chirping of birds sounds throughout the town, their melody weaving it’s way through the townspeople to signal that it’s morning. Everything seems peaceful now, but the burden of today’s event still resides within you. Today is the day where you find out if you’re losing your best friend to the sea. Two of the things you love most, leaving to be with one another. Of course you’ll still have the sea and the beach, but none of that will be the same without Jaehyun beside you. Just as you’re about to get up, you hear the sound of your front door bursting open and foot steps paddling throughout your house.
“Y/n!” Jaehyun yells, frantically searching for you in every room before he finally finds you.
“Jae, my family is sleeping sh!” You whisper yell, Jaehyun’s form suddenly crouching down and looking around apologetically.
“He picked me!” Jaehyin whispers, the three words immediately causing your heart to drop inside of your chest.
“I’m sorry what?” You ask, needing to make sure you heard him correctly.
“I’m the new member of Yong’s crew!” He confirms, his blinding smile lighting up his face. Your heart is beating insanely quickly, the harshness of this reality slapping you in the face. Your best friend is leaving you. Jaehyun is leaving you to become a pirate. Not just any pirate, a Yong pirate. You feel like you could throw up. Nausea consumes your body, this information forcing itself upon you too fast.
“Hey, hey y/n calm down.” Jaehyun reassures grabbing your hand, seeing the color leave your face. “I don’t have to leave for the Baekki voyage for at least a few days, I was just told to meet him at our beach today for crew introductions.”
“Our beach?” You question, curious as to why the notorious pirate would chose you and Jaehyun’s regularly frequented tiny shore when you have so many other larger beaches in fairly close proximity.
“I know, strange right? But, I’m here to recruit you into coming with me.” Jaehyun says, face crunching in hope as he awaits your predicted negative reaction.
“I’m not going with you to see that scoundrel pirate Jae, I’m sorry.” You tell him, running your hand through your hair, getting up out of your bed and walking to the other side of your room.
“Y/n please, you have to come with me! I’m nervous! Plus, we need to spend as much time as we can together before I have to leave for a long amount of time.” Pleads Jaehyun, grabbing your wrist and stopping you in your tracks. Guilt consumes your thoughts since he is in fact correct. You two only have limited time together, and it only seems right to be meeting the man that’s going to be his captain for months upon a time. The word captain makes you shiver, though it’s coming out of your own mind. The thought of Jaehyun being under Lee Taeyong’s order makes you sick, but it’s what he wants. And you were never one to deny Jaehyun of what he wanted.
“Fine.” You respond, ignoring his cheering as you go to get yourself ready for the day. The walk down to the beach is silent, Jaehyun knowing not to push you too much, and you simply being too anxious to even speak. The two of you are finally going to be seeing Lee Taeyong in person. This is the first time anyone in your town has even seen him, there’s only ever been rumors. Anticipation fuels your energy, the desire to know what he looks like actually low key being part of the reason you agreed to accompany Jaehyun. All of the townspeople are out, the news of Lee Taeyong visiting having spread quickly. Everyone is aware that Jaehyun is the chosen one by now. Eyes follow the two of you as you make your way towards the sand, people becoming silent as soon as you pass. Jaehyun is no longer the loud and happy boy whose lived here all of his life, he’s a pirate. He’s an Nct member. He’s a Yong. The Nct ship is now visible in the ocean from your distance. It’s astonishingly beautiful, the pirate ship looking like something out of a dream. It towers over your village, the wood is coated in a smooth looking gloss, with the black letters “Nct” painted on the side. Jaehyun views the ship in awe, his anticipation visibly increasing as the two of you get closer. Eight people are present on the ship, and you can automatically tell Yong apart from the rest by the bright red hair and ungodly expensive captain’s hat sitting upon his head. The captain begins to depart from his ship as you and Jaehyun get closer, Yong’s head facing the ground as his crew follows behind him. It feels as if everything is happening in slow motion, you and Jae finally stopping once you’re just a few feet away from the captain himself. Finally, the man looks up. A gasp escapes your throat, you and Jaehyun dropping your jaws in utter shock. Standing in front of you is none other than Tae, the beautiful boy that captivated your heart last night.
A smirk inhabits his face once he views your reactions. “Well, hello friends! Lovely to see you again!”
You find yourself searching for words, something, anything to say, but you come to no avail.
“Now I understand you must be shocked, but that’s no way to greet your Captain.” Yong says to Jaehyun, his commanding tone of voice completely different from last night.
“Y-yes of course. Hello captain.” Jaehyun says, bowing his head. A smile stretches across Yong’s face as he takes a step closer to the two of you.
“Hello to you too Jaehyun. I’m happy to have you aboard, as well is the rest of my crew.” Yong responds professionally, signaling for Jaehyun to lift his head before turning his attention to you. “It’s a pleasure to be met with your beauty once again my dear y/n, I apologize for hiding my identity the first time, but the only way to truly know how someone acts in their everyday life is to observe them in their everyday life.”
Everything suddenly feels dark around you, your mind still at a loss for words. How could you feel this way about a pirate? Let alone the most intense pirate of your time. Pirates are dirty, they steal, they cheat people, and they lie. Not only is your best friend now a pirate, but the man whose managed to capture your affection is one as well. It all feels like too much for your heart to take right now.
“B-but how? The alley way, everything, how?” You manage to choke out, wanting nothing more than to piece together all of this confusion.
“I’m the most successful pirate of our time love, I have my ways.” Yong smirks, sending a chill down your spine. You want to hate him. You want to hate him like you’ve hated pirates all of your life. All of the stories, all of the tragedies that’ve occurred from his doing, they haunt your mind like a ghost. But after talking with him last night, after bonding over both of your immense loves for the ocean and everything it holds, how could you hate such a man? You never thought you’d be the one to fall for one of Lee Taeyong’s traps. But here you are.
“How about you both come with me? My crew is dying to meet you.” Orders Yong, turning around without waiting for a response. You don’t know what makes you follow him. Maybe it’s the look of wonder on the face of your best friend. Maybe it’s the commanding aura of the captain. Maybe it’s the thought of the man you met last night. Either way, you find yourself following Yong onto the most well known pirate ship among the islands.
~
“Crew, gather round! Meet the newest member of our crew, Jung Jaehyun!” Yong announces, erupting the seven boys into cheers. Standing off towards the back, you quietly observe the introductions.
“I’m Taeil, the oldest.”  Start the first man, then you just hear the names being listed down the line.
“I’m Johnny!”
“Yuta!”
“I’m Doyoung!”
“Sicheng!”
“I’m Mark!”
“And I’m the youngest, Donghyuck!” The last boy says.
After the small introduction, all of the boys break into their separate smaller conversations. Many of them seem to be approaching Jaehyun, and while you were nervous at first, not really knowing what to expect when meeting a group of pirates, you’re surprised to realize they actually seem rather kind. You stare at the build of the ship in wonder, the wood it’s made of being extremely expensive and strong. The sun beats down on your back as you move to the side of the ship to stare out at the sea. There’s not a cloud in the sky as you view the neighboring islands across the body of water, their size decreased from the distance. The ocean has always been the place you like to call home, and you can’t help but wonder what it’d be like to sail across the seas. Pirates values don’t cross with yours whatsoever, but you can’t help but be a bit jealous of the fact that they get to constantly roam the seas.
“It’s gorgeous isn’t it?” A voice sounds from behind you, startling you slightly only for you to realize it’s none other than the Captain himself.
“In all my years of living there’s never been anything more beautiful than the view of the open ocean.” You respond quietly, still not sure about your feelings regarding this whole situation. However, you decide it’s best not to speak with Yong.
“Well, I can think of something just as beautiful.” Yong responds, his eyes practically burning a hole into the side of your face. It’s impossible to hide the blush that paints itself upon your cheeks; however, you turn to face him.
“Stop that.” You demand, trying to sound commanding but realizing the falter in your voice.
“Stop what darling?” Smirks Taeyong, knowing exactly what you’re referring too.
“That! The ‘beautiful’, the ‘love’, the ‘darling’, I’m not going to fall for your trap Captain. I’ve never liked pirates, and I’m not going to start now.” You huff out, crossing your arms and turning to face the ocean again.
“Oh love, I think you already have.” He states, taking a step closer to you and leaning over the side of the ship to look at your face. “And please, call me Taeyong.”
A scoff escapes your throat as you roll your eyes and turn away, not liking the effect he is having on you. Taeyong stands up straight and walks behind you, wrapping his arms around you and trapping you in his hold.
“You do realize the only thing I lied about is my name right?” Taeyong starts. “Everything I said about my love for the sea was true. I think you just don’t want to accept how much you have in common with a ‘pirate’.” He mocks, leaning closer to your neck. You feel his breathing on your neck, making your body tense up at his closeness.
“Everyone spreads all of these rumors about me, but none of them are true, love. Sure I steal, I’m a pirate, that’s what we do. However, I never steal from someone who doesn’t deserve to be stolen from.” He informs you, his voice lowered to a whisper. “And all those tales about the countless amounts of men and women I kill? Fake. People decided to build me up a reputation, and who am I to stop them? It got me where I am now. I don’t care about other people’s opinions, I only care about the ocean.”
“What about all of the people you ‘seduce’? Is this what you tell all of them too?” You question with a glint in your eye. Taeyong leans down even closer, though you didn’t realize that was possible.
“I’ll have you know, you’re the first woman I’ve ever let step foot on this ship.” He whispers, his lips making light contact with your ear. At that confession, you push yourself out of his arms and stare at him in disbelief.
“There’s no way that’s true. You’re a pirate. You’re the pirate. What’s so special about me that I’m allowed to board the ship?”
“You’re different y/n.” He starts. “You’re the only one that seems to understand the true beauty of the sea. I’ve never met any woman like you. I thought me and my crew members were the only ones who truly consider the ocean our home, but you and Jaehyun seemed to have proven me wrong.” Taeyong states with a smirk. Rough hands grasp your shoulders and turn you around when you don’t respond. A gasp escapes your lips as you’re met with the intense gaze of Taeyong right in front of you. His stare is heavy upon your face, almost as if he’s capturing you under his spell.
“I’ll tell you what. My crew and I will depart in a days time to head to the island of Baekki, give me until then to prove myself to you.” Again, you don’t answer. His face is still in extremely close proximity to yours, your eyes beginning to trail down to his lips.
“What do you have to lose?” He asks just below a whisper, before he starts inching his face closer to yours.
“Why do you want to go to the island of Baekki anyways? If you love the sea so much why would you want to reign over all of it’s life?” You quickly question, afraid of him getting too close.
“I don’t want the power to be evil, I want the power to make peace. Serpents? Sirens? All of them are dangerous creatures. I want to stop them from harming anyone else.” His reveal of his true intentions shock you; however, you are distracted before you can respond.
“Hey y/n!” You hear Jaehyun call from the distance, knocking you out of your trance and causing you to push Taeyong away.
“Anyways I’ll take that as a yes to convincing you, see you soon love.” Taeyong winks before running over to the rest of his crew.
“Y/n, where the hell did you go? Why were you over here with Taeyong?” Jaehyun asks.
“Never mind that, how was meeting the crew?” You ask swerving the topic, not really wanting to address what happened between you and Taeyong just yet.
“It was more than I could’ve imagined y/n. Truly, I think I can find a home here with these guys.” A small smile makes it’s way onto your face while seeing Jaehyun so full of joy. Knowing Jaehyun better than anyone, you know that he deserves to be spending all of his time at the place he loves the most. His life has been tough growing up. His family doesn’t care about him, he works everyday just to barely get by, yet he still remains the most real and thoughtful person you’ve had the pleasure of meeting in your entire life. Having no words, you wrap your arms around your best friends shoulders and pull him into a hug. A single tears finds it’s way down your cheek.
“I’ll miss you Jae.” You sniffle. “So much.”
“I’ll miss you more.” Jaehyun responds, running his fingers through your hair. “Just know no matter what I do, and no matter what you do, you’ll always be my best friend. I’ll be back for you no matter what.” You nod in the crevice of his neck and pull away to wipe your tears.
“I have to go now, but I’ll see you tomorrow ok? Come back to the ship after you help your mom with the store.” He says, placing one of his hands on your cheek.
“Of course.” You confirm, sniffling one last time before beginning to walk away. “I’ll see you tomorrow Jae.” And with one last smile from Jaehyun, you’re walking off of the ship and onto the beach. For the first time, you’re stepping foot on your beach without your best friend by your side.
The walk home is simply depressing. The streets are booming with energy as it is starting to get late; however, you just can’t seem to clear your mind. Taeyong’s words are resonating in your mind, and you can’t get the image of his face out of your head. You look back to see the shadow of the ship in the distance and sigh. It would be incredible if you were able to travel the sea with people who loved it as much as you did. This small, poor town is not your home. The ocean is. There’s so much more to the world than the tiny island you live, and you want nothing more than to get off of this island and explore the seven seas. Sometimes you and Jaehyun joked that you should’ve been born a mermaid. Swimming at miraculous speeds, breathing under water, seeing parts of the ocean no human can see; it’s just you. At least if you lived in the sea, more people would understand.
~
The next day seems to drag on forever as you wait to go visit Jaehyun at the ship. It’s not until almost 7pm that your mother finally allows you to leave and go. The sand is hot as always against your feet as your run towards the boat. Tiny particles are being kicked up to hit you in the face, but you can’t find it in yourself to care. Tonight is the last night you get to see your best friend. Tonight is the last night you’ll get to interact with pirates. Tonight is the last night you’ll get to see him. When you finally reach the wooden deck the sun is beginning to set, the colors illuminating a stunning picture around the ship. You go to lift your first foot to step aboard the ship before you’re met with a screaming Jaehyun tackling you in a hug.
“You made it!” He screams, holding you so tightly you’re finding it difficult to inhale air.
“I told you I wouldn’t miss it! Also please loosen I can’t breathe.” He immediately lets go letting out a quick apology before grabbing your wrist and pulling you up to the ship. “So apparently it’s a tradition for nct to get drunk the night before you go on a huge voyage, so get ready to have some fun!” Jaehyun says, grabbing you a drink from a cooler and handing it to you.
“Y/n, glad you to see you back.” The deep, sultry voice of Taeyong says from walking up beside you.
“Of course, I have to say goodbye.” You say with a bittersweet smile.
“Don’t think like that love, we have all night. Right now, it’s time to get drunk with pirates and have the time of your life.” He says with a wink. Giggling in return, you hook your arm in Jaehyun’s and go to sit down with the rest of the crew.
“I’m telling you, that mermaid was so into me!”
“Donghyuck, she was a siren and she was trying to kill you.”
The two of you take a seat in the circle of pirates and are met with this story.
“Whatever you say Mark, I know a mermaid when I see one.”
“Clearly you don’t because that was a SIREN.” The small blond boy says raising his voice.
“Alright, enough you two. Hyuck, it was a siren. Mark, stop being a brat.” The one you remember to be the eldest says.
“Hey!” Both boys respond in unison, cracking a giggle from you and Jaehyun.
“What about you guys, do you have any stories that happened in the sea?” Donghyuck asks, turning his attention to the two of you.
“Well... one time me and y/n were out fishing and we caught a mermaid by accident! She was not happy.” Jaehyun shares, getting laughs out of the rest of the crew members.
“Don’t worry man, it happens to the best of us.” The one you believe is named Johnny says, patting Jaehyun on the shoulder.
“Oh Doyoung, share about the time you saw the sea serpent!” Donghyuck suggests excitedly.
"You’ve seen a sea serpent in person?!” You question, not being able to hold in your shock.
“Yep. We’ve fought one too.” Taeyong says, plopping down next to you and joining the circle.
“The serpent was bothering this island of mermaids, so we made a deal. We fight the sea serpent, they give us one of the islands crystals. It was a pretty difficult battle, but we managed. And now, we have one of the most expensive crystals among all of the islands.” Doyoung reminisces with a smile.
“How many islands have you guys truly explored?” Jaehyun asks curiously.
“Way too many to count.” The crew member named Yuta responds.
“He’s right. I just joined recently and I think we’ve been to a bit over fifty since.” Sicheng adds. The two of you open your eyes in wonder, only having been able to dream of being able to travel that far. Taeyong gets up from his place and wraps his arm around Jaehyun’s shoulder.
“Now it’s you turn to experience the irreplaceable feeling of exploring the sea.” Taeyong smiles. “Cheers to Jaehyun!” The group cheers and drinks in response. The mood on the ship is simply astonishing. Pirates have always been horrible in your mind, but sitting here on the ship right now with all of them is showing you that they’re just a bunch of guys doing what they love. Music sounds throughout the ship as the night goes on. Stories are being shared, drinks are being consumed, and everyone seems to be having the time of their lives.
“So y/n, how are you finding the life of a pirate?” The red haired captain questions, walking you to the side of the boat.
“It’s more than I ever imagined to be completely honest.” You respond, the small amount of alcohol you consumed leaving you only a bit tipsy.
“And this isn’t even all of it. There’s so much to explore out there y/n. There’s so much that the sea has to offer, and that’s why my love for it is simply never ending.” He says, spreading his arms out and letting the wind run through his hair. You watch him with admiral eyes; he’s simply breathtaking. You’re starting to understand what Taeyong meant when he said sometimes things can be of comparable beauty to the sea. The red haired Captain slowly turns around to meet your gaze, sending a smirk your way. Taeyong opens his mouth to speak, before a splash sounds in the distance that causes him to freeze.
“Taeyong? Is everything ok?” You ask, the look in his eyes completely unreadable. His body is tense, and his eyes are dead set on the water.
“No, no you need to follow me.” He says grabbing your wrist tightly and dragging you to the main deck.
“All men on deck! Sea serpent approaching now!” You swear you feel your heart stop as the words leave his mouth. Sea serpents are deadly. Extremely deadly. And although they said they’ve fought on before, you don’t think he’s gonna be easy this time.
“But Captain, we’re docked on land!” Doyoung yells in return, all of the color leaving his face.
“See for yourself, if you don’t believe me. Everyone get to your positions, we’re going to have to use the canons!” Taeyong orders in full Captain mode. His eyes are set in concentration, as he runs around making sure everyone is in position. Panic consumes your body at the thought of such a monstrous creature approaching you and Jaehyun’s home island. Deciding you need to run off to go and find Jaehyun, you leave center ship and search for your best friend. His safety is one of the most important things to you.
“Y/n, go into my headquarters now. It’s the safest spot for you.” Taeyong says grabbing your wrist once again and leading you to his sleeping space.
“No Taeyong, I need to find Jaehyun. I can help too!”
“I promise you, Jaehyun and the rest of us will be fine. You however need to stay in here.” He commands, leaving you in the room and storming away.
“Hey wait-” Just as the words begin to leave your mouth, you hear this horrendous screech sound from the water. A monstrous wave rocks against the ship, titling the whole vessel to the side and back. Fear consumes your body immediately. Never has anything of the supernatural been such a danger to your life. The wooden panels in the room are you only source of grip and the ship starts getting rougher. The thunderous boom of the canons begin to sound, as a number of high pitched wails follow. All of the crew members are outside fighting this monstrosity and you’re stuck in Taeyong’s room just panicking. You were never one to hide away during a problem, so next thing you know you find yourself peeking out the door. You tiptoe outside, hoping not to catch any of the boys attention. A roar sounds throughout the ship and a huge shadow overcomes your head leaving you frozen. The floor of the boat is filled with water, all of the rocking splashing countless amounts in. The serpent is about three times the size of the ship, it’s scales glowing with blue and green shimmer. The monster is wounded in many places from the canons, but it seems to be going strong still.
“Y/n? Get back inside!” Jaehyun yells when he sees you outside the cabin.
“No I wanna help!” You respond, trudging through the water to get to him.
“Y/n?!” Taeyong questions turning to look at you. As he’s turned around, the tail of the sea serpent knocks him down into the boat water.
“Taeyong!” You yell turning around to get to his fallen body. The water is getting higher by the second, the serpent getting more restless as it gets hit. Rubble is flying throughout the water and you’re hoping that nothing manages to hit Taeyong. Spotting his red hair under the water, you muster up all of your strength and pull. Luckily it’s not that deep, so once he feels your aid, Taeyong manages to push himself out from the water.
“Are you ok?” You ask, hitting his back to get him to cough out any excess water.
“I’ll be fine once this thing is dead.” He spits out, a seething look of determination on his features.
“One more hit!” Taeyong yells, getting up and firing the head canon once more and aiming for the face. Flinching away once the serpent gets hit, you hear one last loud screech before the monster’s limp body plummeting into the water.
“Serpent down!” Taeyong shouts, lifting his fist into the air and erupting cheers throughout the men. To your surpise, Taeyong pulls you into a tight hug. His soaked body is cold against yours, but his shivering body makes you want to wrap your arms around him and never let go.
“I’m so glad your safe.” He whispers into your neck. Your heart beat increases at his words, before you’re pushing him away.
“I’m so glad your safe! You almost drowned because of me...” You trail off.
“Y/n, you saved me. Sure, I got distracted. But had you not been there to help me out I could’ve drowned.” He says sincerely. “I promise.” He repeats, sensing your doubt.
Before you’re able to respond, Jaehyun is grabbing you and spinning you around. “That was amazing!” He yells. “Did you see that thing go down?! What a rush!” All of the crew members pile up after that, all of them boasting about how the serpent went down.
As the water is being drained out of the ship, the nct boys speak with the brightest smiles on their faces about the defeat of the serpent. Walking away from the crew, you go to sit on the side of the boat for some time alone. Stars paint the dark sky, illuminating the sea and the ship. The moon reflects down on the water where the serpent drowned, and you let out a sigh. This past night has been the craziest but most enlightening night of your life. Seeing a sea serpent in real life never even crossed your mind as something that could happen to you, but here you are. Everything just seems surreal.
“You doing ok love?” None other than the red haired pirate approaches you and asks.
“How do you always manage to find me?” You question with a slight smile.
“I told you before, I have my ways.” He smirks, taking a seat down next to you.
“I was wrong.” You start, knowing the topic would come up anyways.
“About what?”
“The life of a pirate.” You respond. “The friendships, the cheerfulness, the exploration, it’s just all so incredible. I never thought this would ever be what your life would be like.”
“I knew I could convince you.” He starts off softly. “Like I said, you’re different.” You stare into his eyes as he stares into yours. The rippling of the waves in the background only adds to the intensity of his stare. Here you are, across the most notorious pirate of your time, completely and utterly whipped. Your attraction to him is undeniable at this point, and after the events of tonight, you don’t want to deny your feelings anymore. Taeyong’s rough hand lifts up to hold one side of your face before he closes the distance between the two of you. His lips are surprisingly soft against yours as you follow his lead. He beings to gently lay you back, failing to disconnect your lips at any point. The kiss deepens as you allow him an entrance to your mouth, still allowing him to just dominate the kiss. You grab both of his hands and lead them to your hips, marveling in the feeling of kissing him and wanting to feel more. The only time your lips ever depart is to gasp for air, neither of you wanting the kiss to end.
“Are you sure you’re ok with this darling?” He asks pulling away. You simply nod before pulling him back.*
“I trust you.” You respond. He strips himself of his shirt as you do yours, and you two connect your lips once again. His hands begin to trail up and down your sides, leaving goosebumps upon your body. Disconnecting your lips and trailing open mouthed kissed along your neck, small noises of pleasure begin to leave your mouth. Taeyong reaches out to pull down your bottoms and bring his lips back to yours. Lightly rubbing circles over your panties, he looks down to see that your wetness soaked through.
“You’re so wet for me already baby.” He says, beginning to kiss his way down your stomach. The light touches of his hand against your clothed clit send tiny bolts of pleasure through you. You can feel the roughness of his hands even from the lightest touch. Once he finally reaches the place you want him to be, he looks up at you and smirks. “Lets take these off, shall we?”
He pulls down your underwear and immediately swipes a finger from your entrance up to your clit collecting the wetness onto his finger.
“I can’t believe how fucking wet you are already baby.” He says, rubbing his finger up and down a few more times before slowing entering it inside. A small moan escapes your throat as he begins pumping his finger. He’s quick to add a second one, and you already can feel yourself coming apart quickly. His brows are furrowed in concentration as he focuses on pleasuring you. Taeyong starts thrusting his fingers out quicker, also using his thumb to rub small circles on your clit. You bite your lip to hold in your moans, not wanting to catch the attention of the other men on the ship.
“Taeyong.” You whine, starting to feel the pleasure building up in your stomach. He starts kissing and nibbling around your thighs before looking up at you, and making your breath catch in your throat. Seeing Taeyong look up at you from your legs is a truly breathtaking sight.
“Are you gonna cum for me darling?” He asks, planting another kiss on your inner thigh. You nod your head frantically, gasping and letting your body convulse as your orgasm finally hits and runs through your body. He continues rubbing your now sensitive bundle of nerves until you’re completely down from your high, leaning up to leave a long kiss on your lips. As he’s kissing you, you reach out to grab his bulge.
“Let me return the favor love?” You ask breathily, breaking from the kiss and leaning down to unzip his pants. Taeyong swears it’s the hottest thing he’s ever seen when you start mouthing around his clothed dick. “Y/n, darling please.”
It’s your turn to smirk when you finally release his hard on from it’s confinement and begin to mouth around the head. You look up to see Taeyong’s jaw dropped open in pleasure, his head thrown back with his eyes closed. You release his cock and give it a few tugs with your hand before returning back to sucking, this time going a lot further down. You begin to bob your head on his dick, swirling your tongue on the head and sucking near the base. He groans as you slowly pull away and suck on the head, before leaning back down and engulfing him whole again.
“Y/n, I’m gonna cum.” He says breathily. You nod, swallowing on his dick before he releases his load. You swallow his release before slowly pulling away and tugging him down from his high with your hand. He pulls you up to meet his face before leaning in to place a chaste kiss on your lips. *
“Stay.” He asks you, his eyes bright.
“Don’t worry, I wouldn’t just leave you after that.” You giggle, grabbing one of his hands and intertwining it with yours.
“No, I mean stay. On the ship. With me.” He clarifies. Your eyes widen with realization over what he’s asking.
“I’d- I’d love to, but is that even allowed?” You ask full of excitement.
“Anythings allowed when you’re the Captain.” He winks at you. “Plus all of the crew loves you anyways. You’re best friends with Jaehyun, I’m sure he’d be happy.” He says, bringing your hand up and placing a kiss on it.
“Stay.” He pleads. You look at him before turning to look at the sea. The sea has felt like your home for as long as you can remember, and now you’re finally being given the opportunity to explore it with not only your best friend, but a bunch of other people that share your love.
“Okay.” You agree, breaking out into a smile and laughing when he grabs you and spins you around. The two of you clean yourselves up before heading out to the main deck, your hand still in his.
“Guys, y/n is staying!” He screams loud enough for the rest of the boat to hear. The boys once again erupt into cheers and Jaehyun is ripping you from Taeyong and pulling you into a hug.
“I can’t believe it y/n, we’re finally achieving our dream of exploring the sea together!” Jaehyun smiles.
“Welcome to the life of a pirate, love.” Taeyong says, wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you into his side. Who knew the life of a pirate could be so great after all?

5, 6, 9, 10, pairing doesn't matter much, but I think KuroKura fits well with 6 and 9.
Thanks for the prompt ask! Man, this one was pretty fun to write. I’m going for prompt number 9, if that’s okay. This actually turned out really weird, and I’m not sure if I like it.
9.  Person B haunts Person A’s house. Person A is tired of feeling scared and starts treating Person B like a pet.
Kurapika remembered reading about things like this in the horror novels that he checked out from the school library when he was younger. Usually, it was the typical trope featuring a helpless, oh-so-distressed damsel who had been kidnapped and/or plagued by a vengeful spirit. The apparition would pop about the halls for a few cheap scares, and perhaps leave a message in blood on the mirror for good measure. But by no later than chapter eight, she had been saved miraculously from the ghost by some dusty exorcism practice which commonly entailed no less than five drawn-out verses in poorly-translated Latin.
To say that Kurapika wasn’t pleased to have his life resemble a cheesy horror book was an understatement.
Currently, he was huddled in the farthest corner of his living room, with a bottle of holy water and multiple bibles that he had found in the ancient attic open around him. A small, foolish part of him hoped that the spirit/ghost/whatever would just give up and be intimidated by the ring of holiness that he had rigged up. Or, at least, maybe the thing bumping around his house would stay far away from him for however long it took to hire a proper exorcist.
The blond looked at his phone, frowning. Great. It was just his luck that all the priestly exorcists in his surrounding area were closed on Sundays. Go figure.
How would he even make it another day? He’d been sitting in his wall of bibles for the past thirty-two hours, time which he could’ve put towards cleaning or reading or literally anything else more productive.
In hindsight, maybe he shouldn’t have ignored the first few warning signs.
When he’d first bought the house, just a week ago, the real estate agent had warned him of the strange incidents that had occurred within the property a decade prior. Kurapika’s hadn’t really paid attention at the time, being the broke, freshly-out-of-college, adult that he was. He’d been desperate to find a house that would meet his meager budget, so he’d completely disregarded the information.
(A couple of hours ago, a few google searches brought up more than a he needed to know. Apparently there had been some sort of murderous band of thieves, headed by a man named Kuroro Lucilfer, that had held their grisly operations at his address. Hm, maybe that was why the carpets were stained a funny brown color. Kurapika tried not to think to hard about that.)
As if the direct warnings hadn’t been enough, the first night that Kurapika had spent in the house had been full of disappearing objects and flickering lights. Nervously, he’d just attributed it to his sleep-deprived memory and bad wiring. But, he knew he should have hoofed it when, while he was showering, he had seen a figure watching him from the mirror. This instance actually happened multiple times, before Kurapika had moved his showering to the middle of the day. When the sun was out. Only then.
Kurapika sighed. Amazing. I guess I’m dealing with a pervy ghost, then. Why couldn’t he have just moved in with Leorio again?
Right. Because Leorio was very messy and dorming with the medical student had been actual hell. Wait a minute… It had been Leorio who had suggested the house to him in the first place!
Annoyance, the special kind that only Leorio’s stupidity could invoke, began to simmer in Kurapika’s thoughts. That bastard! Damn Leorio Paladiknight and his damned ‘bright ideas’!
The shuffling in the other room abruptly stopped, and it occurred to Kurapika that he had said the last bit out loud. Well, I’m screwed.
A cold something drifted into the room. Kurapika scooted back as far as he could into the the protection of his bibles. The frigidness didn’t subside, and the thin layers of pajamas that Kurapika had been wearing offered little warmth. For some reason, the blond didn’t feel any fear or apprehension about the situation. No, the only emotion that was running through his thoughts was irritation.
“Can you tone down the air conditioning, asshole?” he shouted, voice coming out less even than he would’ve liked. It struck him how stupid he probably looked, yelling at thin air.
To his utter surprise, the creepy aura receded. “Sorry,” the empty air replied, in a voice that did not in any way seem ghost-like. In most of the movies, the spirits just wailed and shrieked in raspy, torn voices, but this one… well, he sounded unnaturally smooth, like a radio announcer.
“What the fuck,” Kurapika whispered to himself. “Oh no, I’m going insane. All those nights researching psychological maladies, and now I’m succumbing to one of them.” Shit, Leorio was never going to let him live this down!
“Oh, you’re not insane. Probably,” the air/ghost/spirit replied amiably.
“Well that’s good to know,” Kurapika said, giving a mock sigh of relief, “must be true coming from MY OWN MENTAL HALLUCINATION. I have a degree in this, bozo. I’m not some sort of idiot who falls for their own subconsciousness speaking to them.”
“Me? A mental hallucination? I think not!” There was a quiet snapping sound then, and a figure formed itself from the mist.
“Oh, great. I must be in a really dark place right now to conjure up such an asshole,” Kurapika muttered. The apparition raised a perfect eyebrow.
“I think such an ass is what you mean,” the ghost replied, a seductive edge to his voice.
“Oh my god, just kill me now.”
The ghost, who was now fully in the form of a conventionally attractive man, frowned. “That can be arranged.”
Kurapika gave him a skeptical look. “Not possible, since you’re all in my head.”
The spirit/man drifted closer, successfully breaching Kurapika’s wall of Jesus. “Want to bet?” As the figure came clearer into view, the blond noted the odd coat that he was wearing, and the even odder cross that was on his forehead.
He recognized him from the article he had been reading. Kuroro Lucilfer.
Deep in thought, Kurapika didn’t register exactly how much the ghost had progressed until said ghost was right in front of him, his vaguely-transparent nose just inches from Kurapika’s own.
Interestingly, the spirit wasn’t giving off any coldness at all; he was quite warm, actually. Still, Kurapika freaked at the sudden violation of personal space, and tried to shove him away. His hands went right through the ghost, because the other was, well, a ghost.
Immediately, Kurapika had the impression that he had just dunked his hands into a dizzying vacuum, and he had a distinct urge to throw up. Carefully, Kuroro gave a slight tutting sound and removed the blond’s hands from his person (was that even the right word?).
“Wait, how come you can interact with the earthly plane? If such a relationship existed, then I should be able to touch you as well… the physics just doesn’t add up,” Kurapika said, half to himself.
Kuroro smirked. “Well, the relationship between our dimensions is governed by me. So although you may not be able to do any to me… I can do this.” The ghost removed one hand from Kurapika’s arm to place it on the blond’s cheek, drawing him closer and closer until…
Holy mother of all things holy, Kurapika thought, I just got assaulted by a perverted ghost. It didn’t matter that it had been pleasurable… it had been his first, and to have it taken so carelessly by a possibly-hallucinated ghost, too…
The spirit laughed. “Don’t worry, I’ll be sticking around for quite a while.”
Kurapika groaned. And I had just gotten rid of a vexing roommate.
And it’s done. Wow, that turned out hella weird. Apologies for that. I also didn’t edit anything (oops)
