This fic is something special 😵‍💫 Based on Joel falling for webcam model!reader, this story is stuffed with lots of wonderful things: a bashful and bisexual Joel, possessiveness, sexual exploration, a deeper emotional connection, and sinfully gorgeous smut. Written so incredibly well by @psychedelic-ink, I come back to this story over and over again because I just love this concept and it’s been executed to perfection.

A Lover’s Pinch - I truly can’t think of words that do this fic enough justice. It’s burrowed into my brain and made a home there. Joel is reader’s professor, but they’ve become very well acquainted before that fact is realised. Yeah, it’s as hot as it sounds. @hier--soir writes fic so poetically; this reader walked off the page and into my heart. Jessie, I can’t wait to see where you go with this story. I’m so wrapped up in how irresistible reader is to Joel, and how his loss of control when it comes to reader is conveyed. Chefs fucking kiss.

I Know Your Beat, Baby.. Joel is reader’s boss when they get a job with their brother for the summer, and goddamn, was this fic everything I hoped it’d be 😮‍💨🤌🏻 Joel is filthy from the get-go, and it only gets better with every line. It’s the ultimate fantasy; this is what PWP was made for, and @party-hearses took that very seriously. Intoxicating, indulgent and downright dirty. What more could you want? Mish, you know I’m obsessed with the way you wrote this. 10/10 ❤️

Okay you said you wanted angst and I have an idea (although it ends well because the world is already a cruel place, let’s not make it worse)

Anywhooooo: reader and Joel (and Ellie—doesn’t change much if she’s here or not) walked all day in the forest, it’s getting dark so they stop for the night once they find a place. Problem: Joel realizes he lost his watch. He completely loses it and Reader doesn’t understand why the fuck he’s getting so upset over a watch that doesn’t even work anymore. He snaps at her and they go to sleep both upset—him because he lost the last tangible thing of Sarah, the last thing that meant she actually existed and lived and isn’t just a memory; her because her partner can be a real jerk sometimes. Obviously, neither of them can sleep and after hearing Joel move, reader decides to join him; she’s aware that his outburst probably comes from something deeper and he explains to her why the watch matters so much. She vaguely knew about the family he lost (they all lost someone so she kinda guessed it) but she had no idea of the how and who he lost. anyway Joel realizes it’s over, his daughter is really gone. He knows his daughter is slowly slipping from his memory, everything is getting more and more blurry by the day and the watch was all he could hold onto. Reader has never seen him so vulnerable and her heart truly aches for the man. He has a lot of flaws and a baffling ability to keep a frown all day long but she knows he’s a good man deep (deep deep) down and he’s been through a lot. Anyways they go back to their sleeping bags but reader doesn’t sleep, she waits and slips out of her bag, takes a small lamp and starts walking backwards. It’s an incredibly stupid thing to do, she knows. Joel is probably going to realize she’s gone and freak out, she knows. But she will find that damned watch. Finally when she comes back, Joel is pissed and when I say pissed, I mean pissed. He’s so angry that he’s just giving reader an earful, telling her how she’s reckless and stupid and really, all very logical things after the fright he had. Reader just moves closer, takes the watch and tightly wraps it around Joel’s wrist “don’t lose it this time.” You can add to this or maybe change the ending a bit but yeah, have fun 😅

i've been sitting on this for a while but it's so good i don't have much to add 😭 this is just 🤌🏻 but i will add:

joel's left speechless, still angry about how impulsive you were and how easily something could have happened; he had no clue what he would do if something ever happened to you - he did, he would hunt down and kill anyone that did anything to you.

and then, you know, after he's gotten over himself, he'll apologize to you and you'd be hard pressed not to forgive him. it does take a lot of groveling - and kisses - but you could never stay mad at your lover.

I have this on CD lol. This is very special to me because this is one of my favorite movies ever, and a college friend gifted it to me when she had to move cities. I put it on while reading because the vibes are just delectably evil and eerie 🖤

This plays throughout the opening scene of the movie and is just deliciously dark, the swelling crescendo with the choir and sinister whispering gives me goosebumps everytime. It's also perfect for imagining your oc's going through their villain/corruption arc hehe

This track walked so Christina Perri's Thousand Years could run. But seriously, it's such a bittersweet song. The cover by Collin Rae? Ray? I forgot his name is also good.

3. Gone Now - Bleachers

I don't know what it is about this album, but something in it just scratches my brain right. The sound is very synth-y, but there's a lot of sax and sample overlays that I really like. The whole theme is about death and dissatisfaction with where you are at the moment.

I got brave and branched out after four years of writing for Titans only, now you can find me over at The Last of Us, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and that awesome little space indie movie called Prospect. I also got some beloved works for His Dark Materials. Hmm, as for favorites:

TITANS: Usually my answer is Wicked Game but this time I want to highlight my two current favorites which are my two of my most recent fics I loved, and I loved, and I lost you and I am flesh, bones... I am skin, soul… both started out as one shots, both got surprise second chapters, the latter of which will get more. Two recent ideas that really got me excited about writing Titans again. The first one is an unexpected exploration of my grief after losing my beloved show - I say "unexpected" because this fic was never in the plans until it hit me like a wrecking ball one day and I had to drop everything to write it. And the second one was drifting in my head for a while, fed by things other shows had given me, until Titanstober Challenge came and gave me an excuse to write it!

THE LAST OF US: I have to go with And We Were Dancing Like We're Made Of Starlight, the fic where Joel and Ellie find an abandoned mansion and have a little dance in the ballroom, because the idea just warms my heart when I think about it, the response of the fandom to it was amazing AND WE GOT A VIDEO OF PEDRO AND BELLA DANCING TO MATCH IT - sick coincidence that this footage dropped like a day or two after I posted this fic BECAUSE LOOK AT THEMMMM

PROSPECT: Haunted is my baby. It's an AU where the shitty bio father survives the events of the movie and the found father gets to be Feral Protective™, beat the crap out of him (for trying to steal and hurt his girl again) and tell him how much he fucked up yes this is me recompensating myself for not getting Dick vs. Trigon

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: I've only written two so far, but I'm going with Her Father's Daughter because the scene which this fic is an extension of absolutely wrecked me and is one of my all time favorite scenes from this series. The weight of grief when the person you're grieving isn't even gone yet, the fear that is ripping Daisy apart, the absolute hopelessness of the situation and Coulson's calm belief that she's going to be alright, I couldn't let it go without exploring it.

HIS DARK MATERIALS: One Word is the winner here. I rarely get invested in romantic relationships, especially these days, but Will and Lyra are the exception, they own my heart. And this fic is fixing their ending and letting them be happy because if there's one thing I will never be okay with is the fact these two didn't get their happily ever after and if you knew why, you'd agree with me 😩

I'd say 4, though there's some actual work done on only one, the rest is just notes

so for me it was the beginning of the last episode where we see him just like fully soft and in dad mode. i feel like it's a little odd just because there's no mention of the timeline in the show at this point so it's odd to see the flip from how he was before to how he was currently acting. its nothing huge at all, just an observation! but it was all chef's kiss 🤌🏻 and i am ready for s2 and sad for the wait!
