CHAPTER 4 of Itachi x OC Yuri in ‘Another Chance for Family’. This chapter focuses on Yuri and her background and such. I hope you enjoy reading!
(A/N: the land of flowers in this story is different than the land of vegetables. I know in the manga and anime that the land of vegetables is often called the land of flowers but just consider this to be a separate place.)
"As you may know, the Land hidden in the flowers has been very fortunate when it comes to harvest numbers. We're one of the smallest lands but our crop failure is at practically zero and we grow enough food for the surrounding lands. The main contributor to this is my family.
You see, for the past three generations my family has resided in the Land of flowers. When my grandparents came, it was a barren land that could hardly grow grass. The people starved to death and those who survived didn't have the strength to leave.
The mere presence of my grandfather caused the plants to revive. From that day forward, my family were considered the most important and powerful people in the land... that changed soon after I was born.
According to my parents, the night I was born there was a large growth in all of the plants within a two mile radius, the ground shook for hours, and all fire and electricity in the area went out. The village was sure I would bring more good fortune with my heighten powers. They were so happy for my future.
Anyway, I grew up a bit. No one expected much of me yet but they still eagerly awaited the awakening of my full ability. When I was five I caught a cold from playing in the rain. I accidentally spread spores over the entire village. Several people chocked to death on the toxins, especially the elderly and young children. My parents attempted to talk to the villagers and eventually everything calmed down.
The next problem occurred when I was 9 years old. A couple of kids my age were picking on me for being shy and small. They said all kinds of terrible things. They weren't content with just laughing at me though, they started hitting me and throwing things. I tried to protect myself but... I accidentally killed them. Large branches shot out of the ground and through each of the children. I was mortified, and the villagers didn't trust me anymore. They didn't believe I was capable of controlling myself, which is true I guess.
My parents agreed that I was too much of a liability to live in the village, so they cleared out the farmer's shed on top of the hill and told me to stay there. They came to visit me every day and my father would tell me his wonderful stories while mom wove flower crowns. But one day they didn't come back. The night before there was a raid on the town. Thieves came and stole everything. I was forbidden to step foot into the town center so I stayed in my shack and prayed.
My parents and half of the villagers died in the raid. People blamed me for not killing the enemy for them. So after that, they completely avoided me, they hated me, and beat me.
Just before my grandfather passed away, I asked him what my power was good for. He told me, 'you, your mother and I have deep connections with the earth and the creatures on it. We can borrow it's power, create and control life. This power is only given to those the earth loves. Those who are worthy to be its master.' He taught me how to use this power... grandpa was incredible."
My new friends let me finish telling my story before they spoke. Itachi being the first, "So that's what happened? Interesting. Have you mastered control over these powers of yours?"
We all stopped for a break so I was able to sit on the ground.
"Well... the thing is... I'm not sure where my limits are. After that incident with the other children, I stopped trying to use my powers. Although, I do have a pretty good idea what I could potentially do."
"But your village still has healthy crops. How are the they growing if you aren't using your ability?"
"Oh that? Yeah that just kinda happens." I pointed to the area I was sitting on. The once dry dirt was now green and lilies were sprouting. "See? I don't have to do anything, but that also means I don't have much control over this either."
"I'm curious," Kisame had a strange look in his eye. "Could you grow a tree at will?"
"I guess so. How big?"
"As big as possible."
"Alright." I laid my hands on the ground and concentrated on forming a tree. The ground shook for a moment and then everything stopped.
Itachi's POV
'Hm. So she wasn't able to do it. How disapp-'
A large trunk shot out of the ground. The tree grew so tall that it was difficult to see the top through the clouds. The air felt very clean as well. Like all of the toxins had been taken away.
"S-so... How was that?" This woman acted as though she just did something minor and not something as incredible as this.
"Good."
"Really?! I'm glad to hear it!" She smiled at me and Kisame, but I noticed something. Little vines were beginning to wrap around her limbs like snakes. "Hm." She looked at the plant in such a nonchalant way.
"Uh... What's going on?" Kisame finally asked.
"It's my wounds. They're healing them for me. This only happens when I get hurt pretty bad." While she did that I took the time to read her and think about the situation.
'Her chakra is plentiful and she's overflowing with it. So much so that the vegetation around her grows. The strangest thing about this is that I can't see through this jutsu. Maybe it isn't a technique at all.'
~~~~~~
3rd person POV
Yuri, Itachi, and Kisame continued walking to wherever the men were heading. Yuri has already decided to stay with them. After all, they're the only people to show kindness to her.
"So where are you headed?" Yuri asked curiously as she marched next to Kisame.
"Heh. You'll know shortly."
"Hm..... okay!" They continued walking for a few more hours before they reached an area that looked like a deserted village. The houses were burned down and the scorched earth was completely barren. "Um... where are we?"
"We will be leaving you here."
"What?!"
The men were already walking away. "You can wonder off if you want, but if you're in this place, you can train your power without restrictions."
"Oh... I understand."
Itachi turned to the sad young woman and threw her a kunai knife. He gave the knife to her so she could protect herself if she wasn't confident in her abilities quite yet.
Yuri watched as the people she believed to be friends, left her. Even though she could have cried about it, she didn't because she knew this was a challenge: become stronger by the time he gets back.
'I'll do my best and then you'll see how useful I can be!'
CHAPTER 3 of the Itachi x OC Yuri fanfic I’ve been writing! It’ll take several more updates to catch up with my chapters that are already up on Wattpad, but we’ll get there! Thank you for reading!
••••••••
3rd person POV
Itachi and Kisame began leaving Yuri's house an hour or so after she left. "What's wrong Itachi? You look a little pale."
The Uchiha sent a cold glare at his partner. "The girl. Her power is-" Itachi thought for a second about what he would say. "Never mind. It's not our problem anymore. Let's go."
"Are you sure we should? Or would you rather we wait until that girl gets back?" Kisame teased his partner further, although he recognizes that Itachi couldn't have feelings for anyone even if he tried.
"Let's just leave. We're already behind anyway."
~~~~~~
It had been a few hours since they left the village. A lingering feeling of regret hung over both of them. They felt as though they just made a mistake, or at the very least, they were missing out on something.
"Oh I totally forgot," Kisame said hoping to catch Itachi's attention. "I left something at that girl's house." He didn't bother mentioning what the item could be and he didn't make his story sound at all believable.
"What did you leave?"
"Just something."
Itachi sighed but he didn't resist against going back to the town.
~~~~~~
The village was finally back in sight. When they arrived, however, the town was deserted. There were no people anywhere.
"That's weird. They were here earlier." A glow of light at the top of a distant hill caught their attention. "Hm. Looks like a fire." Of course they recognized the location but they both doubted Yuri would be back by now so they were in no hurry.
The pair made it through the forest, meaning they were a few dozen meters away from the hill. The yelling was completely audible now. It sounded as if they were yelling at someone. Someone they despise.
Itachi walked slightly faster. "I think Yuri is up there-"
"AHH!"
The bloodcurdling scream was enough to throw them both off. They ran to the top of the hill. A couple more arrows flew at Yuri, attacking her in various places. "Itachi! Save me! Please!"
He was already fighting the townspeople. He and Kisame. They were quick to handle the problem, as they usually do. The pair didn't even realize Yuri had passed out.
"Hm. I guess it's a good thing I forgot something here." Kisame put away his sword.
The young woman's shed crashed to the ground behind them. "It doesn't seem like you'll be getting it back though." Itachi turned to the fainted girl before looking away again.
"What are you talking about?" Kisame threw the girl over his shoulder and began walking away. "It's right here. Haha."
It wouldn't be true to say they cared for the girl, but it would be accurate to say they were interested in the girl's story and strange personality.
"We can patch up those wounds now but we need to get going soon."
"Yeah yeah. I know. We need to look for the tailed beast. You don't have to remind me."
~~~~~~
Yuri's POV
'Is this what death's like? Hell sure is pretty bright. ...wait that almost feels like... the sun.'
The sun was the first thing I could feel and then it was a pair of arms. "Hm?"
"Finally awake, huh?" The voice sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place it. "You have been sleeping for several hours."
The voice was strangely soothing. I lifted my arms and wrapped them around the pillow of a person. "Haha I don't think she's awake yet, Itachi."
"I-Itachi," I repeated. It sounds familiar but I'm too tired to think or open my eyes. "Mm. Five more minutes. I'm so sleepy." I nuzzled my face into a soft fabric. Again, the sensation was familiar.
'Wait... Itachi. So this person who's holding me is him?!'
"Gah!" I suddenly jumped up after my sudden realization. Itachi was able to somehow catch me before I hit the ground though.
"Hahaha good morning, sleepy head."
"Oh g-good morning, Mr. Kisame." I noticed Itachi hadn't put me down yet. "Um. I can walk on my own, Mr. Itachi. Thank you."
"Drop the 'Mr' and I'm not sure you want him to do-"
Itachi cut him off, "no. If she wants me to, I will."
He lowered me to the ground. "Thank yo- ah!" To be completely honest, I forgot about my injuries until I stood on my leg.
"See? What did I tell you?" Kisame seemed slightly amused.
"Would you like me to carry you again?" Itachi asked in his usual unreadable tone.
"Y- wait no. That's embarrassing." I sat on the ground and thought for a moment. How was I going to keep moving without embarrassing myself?!
"How so?"
"B-because I'm 19. I'm not a little baby."
"Baby or not," Kisame starts. "We still have somewhere to be. We don't have time for this."
"Right. I'm sorry." I looked into Itachi's red eyes and blushed slightly. "Do you mind carrying me? If I'm not too heavy I mean." He didn't verbally respond. All he did was pick me back up and continue walking. "Oh! That's right. I never thanked you both for saving me. I just wanted to say that I appreciated it. I don't know how to repay-"
"It's fine." My carrier was still looking forward. "We aren't in the business of saving people so there's no need to thank us."
"Hm?" I scratched my head. "But you just did, Itachi."
"You've got a point, kid." Kisame laughed before he turned to me again. "Anyway what happened between you and the villagers?"
I hung my head a moment. "You're interested in that story, huh? I don't really want to talk about it though."
"Doesn't matter." Kisame wasn't going to let up. He seemed bored so the story is most likely for entertainment.
"....fine. But it's a long story."

Chapter 2 of Itachi x OC Yuri
Yuri's POV
Tumblr media
I woke up early the next morning and got dressed for work. I needed to go into the fields today to harvest some of the vegetables that have grown and then afterwards I can grab some more food for my temporary guests.
I tried tiptoeing out of the house but both men caught me before I even reached the door. "Sorry to wake you. I have work but I'll be back later with food. If you're staying until then of course."
"Okay."
I walked to the fields and began working. The field is right behind my house, so I'm lucky I don't have to walk very far, unlike the other workers. They have to walk in all the way from town.
I pulled up my mask and began pulling out weeds and harvesting vegetables.
'See Yuri, everything is going fine so far. Two hours of work and nothing bad has happened!'
"Get out of here!" A rotten tomato flew at me and stained the right side of my face.
"You don't belong here, you monster!" Another person threw something else at me.
"Just die already!" A girl my age threw a rock at my head, right where I hurt it yesterday.
"I-I'm sorry! Please stop it." The rotten food and rocks continued to fly at me, almost all of them hitting me.
"Go away!" An older man yelled so I complied. I ran off as quickly as possible, dropping to the ground when I reached my front door.
"Hey,"
I looked up to see the Itachi guy standing in my garden. "H-hi..." I looked down at the ground and noticed all of the wounds I received today. It was embarrassing for someone else to see me in such a pathetic state. Especially this guest.
"What happened with all of the people?"
"Oh... so you saw that." My bottom lip began quivering uncontrollably. I felt like I would break down at any moment. "The villagers hate me... it's why I live all the way out here."
Itachi stood over me now. I continued to hang my head so I wouldn't have to look into his eyes. "You should wash that off. I can help you put on some bandages after you've done that."
He took me a little by surprise. I didn't think he would be the kind of person it help me with something like that. "Thanks. I appreciate it Mr. Itachi."
"Mm." He walked into the forest to the direction of town. I assume he left so I could bathe.
"Alright. I have to hurry up before they get back- hang on... where's Mr. Kisame?" I couldn't find him anywhere in the house so he must be somewhere else too.
I quickly washed myself off and tried to bandage myself up as best I could. I was having most trouble with the wound on the top of my head. I couldn't see it, so it was difficult to treat.
"I said I would do that for you." Itachi's voice suddenly appeared. I didn't even realize anyone walked into my house.
"Oh well I just thought I could try to do as much as I could by myself. This one is hard for me to wrap though." I pointed to the red spot in my black hair.
Itachi walked over to me and began cleaning my wound for me. I didn't realize how much taller he was than me until now. And... his scent. It's different than anything I've experienced before. I can't put my finger on what it is, but it makes me smile.
"Yuri,"
Dammit! I was too immersed in my thoughts. I didn't know he was talking to me. "Huh?"
"We'll be leaving now."
"Really? I,-" I didn't want to hear that. I didn't know how much I didn't want them to leave until he said that. "Okay. Where's Mr. Kisame?"
"He went out earlier to eat. He should be back shortly."
"Right," I grabbed a basket off my table and began leaving my house again. "I should go too. The villagers are already upset with me so I have to go to the next village over and pick up supplies. I need to go now or it'll be extremely late when I get back." I looked at the stranger one more time and smiled. "Take care of yourselves and tell Mr. Kisame to take care as well."
"Mhm."
I left knowing I probably would never see him again. After all, he was just passing through and they needed a place to stay. When I reached the bottom of the hill, I turned around hoping Itachi would still be a my door step, and he was! He was looking right at me. Kisame walked up next to him and looked over the hill too. I waved to them both then skipped to the next town. It took me four hours to get there, an hour to get everything I needed, and another four hours to get back to my village.
While I was walking the dirt road to get home, I hoped they would still be there. It's nice to have people around who are kind to me. Such a difference from my everyday life.
On top of my hill I noticed a very bright, golden light. I heard the sound of shouts next.
'What's going on?!'
I ran up the hill and found a couple hundred people outside of my burning house yelling out against my existence.
"For the safety of our village, we must slay this beast!" Yelled the village priest.
"Yeah!" Everyone agreed.
Tears were rolling down my cheeks. Everyone I knew and grew up with wanted me dead. "What are you doing?!"
The crowd turned to me and raised their weapons. "Look, there it is! Kill it!"
The ground shook.
"W-what?" I felt helpless. I had no way to defend myself and no useful fighting skills. All I could do is run but even then it won't be much help. They would catch me and some of them have long range weapons.
"We don't need you anymore!" Yelled a man in the front of the group. He pulled out his crossbow and shot an arrow through my left leg.
"AHH!"
"Keep firing!" Next was my right shoulder and left hand.
"Itachi! Save me! Please!"

This is my Itachi x OC Yuri fanfic. I started updating on Wattpad first, so it’s gonna take me a minute to catch up over here. (I also wrote the beginning of this story a couple of years ago. Please excuse my awkward style from back then.)
Anyway!!!! Chapter 1!
3rd person POV
Itachi and Kisame are walking through the forest when it begins to rain. A slightly irritated Itachi clicks his tongue at the heavy rain and silently pouts.
"What?" Teased Kisame. "Don't like the rain?" Because Itachi isn't accustom to talking when it's unnecessary, he just turns his head to shield his eyes from the falling water. "Fine, fine! We'll find some house to stay in. It's weird though. You've never had this problem before."
That's true. Itachi hasn't complained much, but today he was in a bad mood, so he didn't feel like being wet.
After a moment of looking, the pair noticed a house on top of a tall hill that was close by. "Here we go. I'll take care of whoever owns this dump." Kisame was walking up to the front door but a bed sheet from the laundry hanger was blowing into his face. "D-damn this!" He grabbed the fabric and tore it from the bar, revealing a young woman behind it.
She jumped a little when her sheet was pulled away. The girl tilted her her up to see him face to face, but that's when she noticed, this guy is the scariest person she has ever seen.
"GAH!" The girl stumbled back but ended up slipping on the mud and tumbling all the way down the hill. For a moment, it didn't seem like she was going to stop until she ran head first into a large rock.
"Wow she's clumsy. Haha! Well it looks like we don't have to worry about- wait Itachi! What are you doing?"
The Uchiha was already making his way to the woman. He noticed that she was completely knocked out when he reached her and her hair was stained with blood. "Hm." He grabbed her waist, dragged her back up the steep hill, and into the small house.
"What'd you do that for?" Kisame asked after they settled down.
Itachi didn't have an answer for his partner. The only thing he could think of was he just wanted to. Maybe it was because this woman reminded him of his brother when he was nothing more than a clumsy kid.
Itachi put a bandage on the top of the girl's head and had a small fire started close by so she would dry faster. Now it was a waiting game to see when she would be waking up.
"OC's" POV
'What's going on? My head hurts. What happened to me?'
I opened my eyes and slowly looked around the room. It was my house. It was still dark outside so I haven't been out for long.
Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a shadow. When I turned to it, I was met with a terrifying man. He looked like a mix between a shark and a human. A beast!
"A-a-a-h." The fact I was having trouble piecing together words entertained this man.
He snickered and pulled out a large object that was wrapped up with badges. "Cat got your tongue? Haha!"
I ducked and braced myself for some sort of impact. "Leave her alone, Kisame." Another voice gently spoke. I stayed down, unsure of when it would be safe to get back up.
"Tch. Oh come on, Itachi. I was just kidding."
The sound of the creaky floors were growing louder. Someone must be walking up to me. "You're fine." Said the much nicer voice.
I timidly sit up and look the two men in the eye. "Um... hello." The scary man just grinned at me while the other had an unreadable expression. The man I was unfamiliar with was actually quite handsome. The rain in his hair made him look- wait! The rain?! "Oh my gosh. You're wet." I stood up but I felt a little lightheaded.
"You took quite a hit out there. Probably shouldn't move too much, miss." Said the shark man.
"I'm fine." I straightened myself up and walked to the closet. "Here. I don't have much but you can use these towels to dry off. I can take care of your robes." When I turned back to them, they looked slightly confused. "Is something wrong?"
"No."
"Good! Now take that off before you both catch cold. I have an iron somewhere around here. I could iron those dry for you." They silently complied. "Oh! I made some tea a couple minutes before I went outside. It should still be hot!"
Kisame's POV
'What the hell? I was just about to kill this girl and now she's drying our clothes? Creepy. And another weird thing, she isn't afraid of us even though we're Akatsuki. What's going on?'
The girl poked her head back into the main room. "Oh! Mr. Kisame, I forgot to ask, would you like water instead of tea?"
That caught me slightly off guard. "Doesn't matter... How do you know my name anyway?"
She innocently tilted her head and said, "well that's what he called you. That is your name, isn't it?"
'Oh I get it. She probably doesn't even know what the Akatsuki is. The moment most people see our cloaks they run for the hills.'
"Yeah that is my name. So what's yours?"
"Hm? Oh! Please excuse my rudeness!" She bowed to us and continued to speak. "My name is Yuri. It's nice to meet you both." She stood up and smiled. "The rain isn't letting up. If you want you could stay here for the night."
"That's what we planned anyway."
"O-oh. Well... let me know if you need anything. I'll be done with your cloaks soon too."
I turned to Itachi who was drinking the girl's tea. "So you want to kill her or can I?"
He looked into the distance for a moment and responded. "Neither. We could use her for information." Itachi has a point, but we could get information from anywhere. We don't need that girl to do it.
"Here you go!" Yuri handed us our neatly folded cloaks. "Anyway I think I'm going to head to bed. If you're hungry then you can raid my fridge, although I don't have much food so I need to head into town tomorrow. The blankets are in that closet." She pointed out everything we may need. "Alright I'll see you guys later. Good night!"
My partner and I waved off the girl and sat in the living room alone. "Ha. This girl's too trusting for her own good. I'm surprised she's survived this long."
"She is interesting. Other than that there's nothing special about her. We'll leave after we eat tomorrow morning." Itachi turned away and fell asleep.
'For a minute there, I thought he was going soft for that girl. Maybe I was wrong.'
