in her Mind unless Strickler and Jim are getting Somewhat Along together and Strickler doesn't Oppose a Danger to him or Something then they Shouldn't break up. i Also think that Barbara was So happy that there Someone that Can Provide her With Love and Care besides her Son ofc that she needed because of her husband leaving so up until Strickler show his true Colors.

I'm rewatching Trollhunters in the background right now, and the disfunctional mother son relationship between Jim and his mom is making me crazy.

Like, he's taking care of the household and his mother for years as a teenager and before probably. She is sometimes giving half hearted comments about him not having to do so much, but very obviously she's not gonna make him stop do all the cooking and cleaning. Y'know. Both because they've been living like this for years, and because it's obviously also very comfortable to have someone do all the house work.

Then Strickler comes into the picture, and if we ignore the whole Troll and changeling side of the story, Barabara gets very offended cause Jim doesn't want her to meet him privately. Again, ignoring the whole magic and trolls stuff, STRICKLER IS JIMS TEACHER. If Jim hadn't figured out that Strickler was a changeling he probably wouldn't have a problem with it, but the fact that he does, no matter the reason, should be enough for Barbara to put a stop to the relationship. Her child is clearly uncomfortable with her seeing/dating that guy, for whatever reason, and even clearly vocalized it. But she doesn't care about, or rather, she tells Jim that she "wouldn't expect something like that" from him. Obviously not, cause she may see him like her child/teenager he is, BUT DOESN'T TREAT HIM LIKE ONE.

And then Jim, unknowingly to Barbara, becomes the Trollhunter, and his behavior changes. He's suddenly doing reckless stuff, sneaking out, getting bruises, landing in detention and even at the police station, barely avoiding a police report. What does she do? Asking him what's going on? If everything's alright at school? If he has any other problems? Maybe trying to lower his workload around the house, which again, he's doing most of that as a teenager and longer probably.

Nah. She doesn't do anything until he lands in the hospital. Except for again, dismissing him rather negatively at the one topic he's openly expressing any negative opinions about (Strickler). And after he lands in the hospital she now starts not asking questions, but demanding answers. Demanding answers from a teenager in a difficult situation who is also now acting much more like a teenager than he ever did before, from her point of view at least. Except she obviously doesn't know how to deal with a teenager, cause she has never had to raise or live with a teenager. She instead lived with a child pretending to be an adult for years, that was partly much more of an adult than she was, who did way to much work even before Jim became the Trollhunter. So she throws punishments at him and grounds him, but does he listen?

No. Cause why should he? Not only is he dealing with things much more important than being grounded, yknow, saving the world, he's trying to protect her from the sheer knowledge of the supernatural and physically protecting her from getting harmed. And again, for the majority of the time since his dad left he pretended to be an adult. He was and is the main adult in the household, dealing with important things she doesn't even know about.

The only one's treating Jim like a teenager are teachers, other children and Blinky and Aaargh sort of when they're not in the middle of Troll business. Strickler, in the first episodes where Jim doesn't know about his true identity, is much more of a parental figure to Jim (also after his redemption later on tbh) than his mother.

In summary: Barbara is treating her son like an adult, almost like a partner, instead of a child/teenager. And when that isn't possible anymore she doesn't know how to properly treat him. She also doesn't really care that her son is uncomfortable with her being around Strickler, or Strickler in general. And it takes Blinky telling her (when Jim is 16) that Jim might be affected by his father leaving when he was five years old.

Jim meanwhile is treating his mother more like a child/teenager instead of the adult and MOTHER that she is. Seeing her as his responsibility. Cooking for her. Cleaning for her. Telling her to rest and take breaks.

They obviously love each other other. And their relationship might not be toxic, but it's very much disfunctional. In a way that is mostly negative for Jim.

i Would Say that Jim is really Overprotective he afraid that Strickler might harm her the Same his father Did changeling or not .

Because Jim was the only one that cared about her in the house and the only one that keep her Stable and not break so when he starting to acting out yes form her Point of view he doesn't trust her anymore feel Left behind and it's harder when you're only Mother and have only one Son.

I took as Zuko trying to Redeemed himself by helping the Person that was hurt the Most by his betrayal in ba Sing Se

I hate the way people treat Katara in The Southern Raiders.

The way that people put Aang on a pedestal of someone who can do no wrong makes me hate discussing the show with ATLA fans. I like Aang, but he isn’t the morally good character that he says he is and the fans only prove this.

In TSR, Katara is given the opportunity by Zuko to get revenge against the man who killed her mother.

First I want to start off with Katara’s exchange with Sokka.

Katara asks Aang for Appa to go on the journey with Zuko, he tries to persuade her otherwise and then Sokka tells Katara, “Katara, she was my mother too but I think Aang is right”.

And so Katara says the infamous line, “Well you didn’t love her the way I did.”

This is when people go insane but what Katara’s says is somewhat reasonable. Katara and Sokka have different versions of love for their mother, you can be siblings but still love your parents differently from your sibling. People also never put in perspective that Katara has the view of a child with survivors guilt while Sokka is able to move on from his mother’s death because he is a kid who understands war. From a young child, even in TSR episode, it shows him wanting to fight back against the Fire Nation and him wanting to be involved in the war between his people and the Fire Nation. I also believe that Sokka does feel sorrow for Yue’s death, but isn’t hung up on it like Katara is with their mothers death because he understands that at the end of the day, Yue’s sacrifice was her duty and a product of war. Their mother’s death was an outcome of war.

I love Sokka, but when he says this line:

He’s dismissing her feelings. It’s like he’s saying, “We both lost our mother, but because I don’t want revenge, you shouldn’t either” which isn’t fair to Katara at all. Ofc I don’t believe Sokka meant for it to come out like that but that’s what it sounded like.

But you can also use the fact that Sokka grew up in a sort of toxic masculinity mentality. You can also use the fact that Sokka held his emotions in too about their mother’s death and that was also damaging to him. Which is true, I could support that too.

And my response to that is that you shouldn’t force others to grieve how you grieve.

Katara can’t just forgive Yon Rha like Aang can when it comes to the genocide of his people because they are fundamentally different people with different backgrounds and settings.

Obviously they don’t force Katara to stay on the island and not go on the quest, but they do admonish her and compare her to Jet (which is a lil finicky because Jet did do bad things but also changed towards the end of his life to do good and also help the gang) which is demeaning to who she is. She even defends herself by saying she isn’t like Jet, she isn’t attacking an innocent person, she’s attacking the man who led the raids against her people and killed her mother.

This brings me to my gripe with Aang in this episode and previous episodes. I can’t recall a single episode where Aang acknowledges what happens to her and comforts her. It’s always Katara comforting Aang when he is emotionally distressed. When he learned about the death of his people, when Appa was taken, and when he was questioning his honor of being the Avatar. It’s always Katara comforting him but it’s never really reciprocated back to her.

In this scene, Aang tells Katara that she should forgive Yon Rha and she says, “I knew you wouldn’t understand.”

Because Aang never tries to. It’s either his way or no way. Aang is a pacifist and I respect that, Aang wants to preserve the culture of his people and I also respect that. However, Katara doesn’t have the same views as him. Katara never stated to be a pacifist, Katara never stated to believe in the views of the Air Nomads, so obviously there would be a disconnect between the two of them because they grew up with a different culture and different world views. They also grew up in the different times, Aang grew up in peace while Katara was born during a war.

It’s honestly disingenuous to ask Katara to forgive the man who killed her mother, just because Aang can forgive the fire nation for their atrocities to his people, doesn’t mean she can too. People grieve differently. Katara outburst was bound to happen because no one in the group ever acknowledges her pain. Only person who does is Zuko and although people like to call him a manipulator, he isn’t. He realized that Katara’s hatred for Yon Rha was being directed at him because he is a personification of the Fire Nation in her image. So he stops, learns about what happened, and tries to understand her pain.

It’s also extremely hypocritical for people to get mad at Katara for her outburst against Sokka when Aang yelled at Toph when she chose to save them over saving Appa from the Sandbenders.

People even defend it by saying

Can’t that be the same thing said for Katara?

Also, Aang never apologizes to Toph about his outburst btw. He even yells at the rest of the gang later on during the desert and also yells at Katara, “claiming that she isn’t helping” when she is the only one keeping the group together.

What also gets me is how no one realized that Katara wasn’t going to kill Yon Rha. After rewatching the series a bit, Katara was never going to kill that man. It’s not in her character to and this episode tests her character and makes her better for it.

And the lessons of the episode isn’t “revenge isn’t the way” or smth similar to that, if anything, it’s the fact that you don’t have to forgive your abusers. It’s shown through Zuko, Aang, and Katara. Zuko doesn’t enact revenge against Ozai but he also doesn’t forgive him. Aang has the right to kill Ozai for the death of his people and for the war, but doesn’t. Aang never forgave him though. And most importantly is Katara, she can’t bring herself to kill Yon Rha but at the end of the episode she tells Aang that she can’t forgive him. Aang was wrong, forgiveness can be impossible.

Isn't it curious how all of Jim's transformations are basically him dying?

Part of him died when he turned into a half troll hybrid

His old human self was gone after turning into a full, corrupted troll

And to regain his human self back, he literally was turned to stone (which is the way most Trolls die)

And now that I think about it, it also has some resemblance to suicide methods

The most obvious one will be a bathtub suicide and the second one being Jim stabbing himself

Light and Darkness - What got me into Jlaire.

i wasn't that big on Romance i didn't hated it was really good at time but on others it feel Like a Slog.

but With this i Love it it Was Super Cute and the More i watch it talk to people who Share the Same thing mainly @albentelisa and others i Learn to Love it even More i Also relate to the both of them and understand their View Points.

it doesn't drag at the End of the Series nor it feel rushed

i really hope that one Day everyone Would return and the State Would return to normal.

Hey everybody. This blog has quite a few followers, so some of you may have noticed that there has been a lack of activity recently. This is because there have been a lot of irl events going on with some of us, and there is only one member left to run this.

The blog is not going to be deleted, every post will stay up as an archive of sorts. This is also in the hopes that the others who were a part of this will one day come back and everything will go back to normal. But it also will not be as active, due to my own personal schedule and out of respect for the others as I was not the original creator.

thinking about jlaire and how much jim means to claire. he saved her brother, he's the one who opened her eyes for the truth and showed all the things that were happening right under her feet. the one who trusted her to fight alongside him, who saw potential in her to help. jim was the one to step up when she was trying to make that portal, the portal that could've killed her. jim was one of her closest friends. i miss them so much. they're so important to me.

Gosh, fanart, fanfic, and a video in one post! I have to apologize; my submission for today’s prompt may have gone a little over the top. BUT I HAVE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS PROMPT ERMAHGERSH.

Below is a little short story! Beware, this is rated F for FLUFF. Like, a cloud made out of cotton candy cotton balls being eaten by Persian kittens and tea-cup Pomeranians. Fluff fluff FLUFF.

“Jim? Jim!” Claire ran through New Troll Market, looking for her boyfriend. Blinky needed to talk to him stat.  And when Blinky needed to talk to him immediately, it usually meant he was about to have a complete break-down. In other words, if she didn’t find Jim right away, Blinky would be in utter hysterics from which it would take hours for him to recover.  

Claire had already looked in all the usual places: the training center, the library, the Heartstone, even the pub where the gnomes usually ran amuck. He wasn’t anywhere to be found. Claire’s frustration was growing, although it was starting to be twinged with worry. Aside from whatever new thing Blinky was freaking out about, Jim had been acting really weird the last few days. Well, actually the last few months. It almost seemed like he was avoiding her.

Claire rounded the corner to Jim’s room, wondering if he had fallen asleep or gotten distracted. His room was empty; in fact, it looked like he hadn’t been in there for a few days. Claire ran back out to the main cavern. “JIM!!!” Claire was growing more impatient. Where could he be?
