I am very happy to announce that my senior project, titled “Candied Magic” is complete! This has been a eight month long project (not all of the art is included here), all development for an animated TV series!

“Candied Magic” is a re-telling of the fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel” set in the golden age of Mexico. 

Hermosa and Gabriel are both orphans who run away together and find themselves at a candy shop called the Candy Cauldron after following a strange blue creature. They discover that the shop, the candy, and the shop runners are anything but normal.

Ginger, a candy witch, creates unique candy which give temporary powers to the person who eats it, providing practical and entertaining uses. Sugarbones is her sugar skeleton assistant, and Caramela is an alebrijie who has a habit of eating Ginger’s sweets.

Of course, nothing about Ginger or Sugarbones is cookie-cutter, and the young orphans find themselves on a few fantastic adventures learning more about the witch and her companion. 

This has been such an amazing project and I hope to someday turn it into a real TV or a webseries. It was amazing to see people’s reactions at the gallery opening, and even more amazing to share the experience with @oakydeer who was a MAJOR part of this project. I hope to continue with this project and showcase the fun story and culture!

All of this, art/story/ect, IS filed for copywrite, so please don’t think about taking any of this as I will be able to take legal action. Sad that I have to point this out but, yay, internet.

the reason lesbians are Like That is bc admitting your attraction to another woman is literally a safety risk, also we know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of unwanted attraction (from men), also we have the trope of the predatory lesbian constantly weighing on our minds, also we usually see no role models depicted in media or irl of what it is we’re supposed to DO, also a lot of us have the experience of growing up with hostility or at the very least alienation from other women which also affects our ability to trust both our own instincts & what other women are telling us about their feelings, also we have like a million other people to think about (your parents, your friends, HER parents, HER friends) every time we even think of approaching a relationship, & on top of THAT we have regular old fear of rejection like straight people have, so like. yeah we’re useless but don’t be so hard on yourselves bc there is literally so much we have to deal with! but also being able to joke about it with other lesbians is a good way to recognize that We Are All Suffering so maybe we dont feel so alone in our absolute patheticness
