Hey so... I've been working on this again

#hey all #sorry I've been largely absent on this side blog for like a million years #some updates: I graduated college. That was cool :) #also I got really stuck with this story for a while #I didn't know where to take it or how to turn it into a cohesive story but didn't know why I was struggling #and I just recently realized the reason was because I had a bunch of B plots spinning around in my head #but I didn't have a real solid A plot for them to attach to! #BUT! my friend @punkinspice encouraged me and after some thinking #I'm actually formulating the A plot! :D #It's not done yet but its way more solid than what I had before and I'm super excited about it #It'll be a while before I'm ready to share more but I wanted you to know that things are in the works behind the scenes #I still love this story and want to form it into something solid #I can't wait for when I can share it with you :) #stay tuned! #triple threat sonic au #sonic au #sonic the hedgehog

Thank you second anon! I'm so glad you're having fun here in my little corner of the internet. 

To answer both anons' questions, the Sol Emeralds do not exist in this AU, and neither does Eggman Nega (as far as this story is concerned anyway). But Marine exists! She is 9 years old and lives on Blaze's street. Blaze and her have become friends—probably because Blaze babysat her at some point—and Marine likes to tell her all about her latest adventures. She's obsessed with playing pirates in her treehouse, and her family enjoys boating too.

For summer vacation, I'm assuming you're asking the main hedgehogs. :) Sonic loves the beach. Even though he doesn't swim, he does enjoy splashing friends in shallower waves, and loves feeling the ocean breeze in his quills and falling asleep on the sand.

Silver's grandparents will probably be visiting his family from Svandia during the summer. 

Shadow isn’t really in the habit of traveling (his family wasn't able to travel much due to Maria's health), but he does love to stargaze with his telescope. He’ll spend a lot of summer evenings doing that.

Hi hi- I’m just very curious cause I like the little squishy guys.. are there chao in your au? Like Cheese or just any of the little guys hanging out in Chao Gardens?

Yes the chao are in this au! :D A group of them live on Angel Island, of which Chaos is extremely protective. (Stuff goes down relatively similar to SA1 back in Tikal's time, including Chaos becoming furious because of the ancient echidnas hurting the chao.) Tikal loves the chao. When the boys discover Angel Island, Tikal, the master emerald, etc., they are introduced to the chao as well. :)

I don't yet know how, I don't know when, but Cream HAS to meet a chao at some point, and it will be Cheese. Because Cream is not complete without her Cheese.

How would the boys react to being stuck in a time loop where they relive the same day over and over?

Oh Shadow would HATE IT he'd be so annoyed. 😂

Silver's response would evolve from stressed to 'i'm so done' to 'i've gotta fix this'

Sonic would be weirded out at first, then would probably respond with a laugh and a comment like "oh Tails is gonna FLIP when he hears about this." Then he'll go get Tails and get his help in getting things back to normal.

Lucky for these hedgehogs, there's no timeline shenanigans going on in this au for them to worry about!

Random thought about Silver’s dad Johan: He’s very bookish, with a huge collection of books in their house and a long list of ones to read. He gets completely enthralled when reading. Often if you try to talk to him while he’s reading, he’ll grunt in response without actually hearing or registering anything you said. Both his son and his wife tease him for it, although Silver’s intense focus definitely came from him!

What are the boys biggest pet peeves?

There are plenty of things that bother these guys, but specifically pet peeves...

Not a lot of small things bother Sonic, but after he meets Eggman it's gonna be the doctor and others calling him rodent. 😂

Shadow's is people talking about something that they clearly know nothing about and just being super ignorant. He will correct you. No he will not care that the girl you're trying to impress is right there. Watch out.

Silver's is probably littering. Also tailgating.

Triple Threat AU: can you tell us about Silver’s family? The only thing we know is that he has a baby sister and we don’t even know her name.

Oh my goodness, I’ve wanted an excuse to talk about Silver’s family forever. :D (click all images for better quality)

Yes, Silver does have a baby sister! Her name is Alicia. When the story starts she’s about 8 months old, and Silver is THRILLED to have a little sister after being an only-child for so long (his parents were definitely surprised when they found out they were having another baby but were equally delighted!) She is his pride and joy. Alicia is a very sweet baby and has already shown herself to be very cuddly and also very observant. Silver tells her all his secrets about his superheroing adventures because it’s fun to feel like he has a confidant (and who is she gonna tell?) :) Oh, and he loves babysitting her (although its tricky when his parents are on date night and Shadow and Sonic call with a down-town emergency!) 

Silver’s parents are from Svandia, which is a Sonic-Unleashed-type country that I definitely just made up on the spot that’s inspired by Scandinavia, particularly Sweden. Here are first-pass designs for Silver’s parents, Annika and Johan: 

Silver’s mom Annika is extremely stylish without even trying; she’s just naturally classy, and her presence both relaxes you and makes you want to be better. Silver’s dad Johan is very bright and cheerful and full of energy (and very tall for a hedgehog). Both of them have white fur like their son, which is super common in their home country. 

Silver’s family has a lot of traditions that stem from their Svandian heritage. Community is very important to Annika and Johan, and they’ve instilled that in Silver as a family value. They love to help organize neighborhood block parties (that's how they originally became such good friends with Blaze and her mom). Annika and Blaze’s mom go out to lunch together regularly.

Annika and Johan also love cycling. They’ve sometimes done it as part of date night, and the entire family has gone on cycling outings regularly over the years. They already have a little chair ready to install on the back of Johan's bike for when Alicia is old enough to join them (which will be in about a month or two). Annika uses her bike regularly for shorter errands, like going to the local grocery store (she carries the food home in a basket attached to the back of her bike). Johan is really, really good at bike repairs (he loves bikes guys), and he regularly offers to help neighbors with their various bike repair needs. 

As for how they make a living, Annika and Johan run a local ‘European’ (insert the sonic-equivalent word here) goods store in town. Annika makes and sells her own homemade Svandian apple cakes there, as well as other deserts. Silver works there after school some days, and it has been his job during the summer. They do very good business, and while they are not rich, they are financially savvy and have what they need, and have been able to visit Svandia multiple times to see Silver’s grandparents (and the grandparents have flown out many times to visit the family too) 

And yes Annika and Johan have slight accents which are very charming because I said so :D

How would the boys react to someone spreading horrible rumors about them?

For Sonic, most things would just roll off his shoulders. As long as he’s doing what he personally feels is right, he doesn’t care what others think of him and isn’t afraid to rock the boat. He’s completely sure of himself in that sense. If something were really an issue, Sonic would trust himself to stand his ground and stick up for himself, but he’d be more likely to just laugh about whatever the rumor was and then completely forget about it. If you’re spreading rumors about his friends, however, that’s a different story—that person had better run. 

Shadow is very aware of the fact that people talk about him when he’s not around. His stern appearance, introversion, and sudden arrival at the school under mysterious circumstances made people both nervous around and curious about him. So there’s been rumors about Shadow since his first day at the school. Like Sonic, Shadow doesn’t usually care what others think if he feels strongly about what he’s doing. However, he hates the general feeling that he is untrusted. For this reason, though Shadow doesn't usually talk about it or openly acknowledge it (except through maybe a glare or two at those who are particularly bad offenders—that makes them shut up quickly), the gossiping hurts him. It secretly weighs him down to feel like others consider him a danger. (As for his reaction to rumors about his friends, Shadow doesn’t really hear those rumors because he’s such an introvert, and most people at school avoid him.) 

Silver is more sensitive to this kind of thing and would be very bothered if this happened. He would be particularly hurt and angry if the rumor specifically targeted his integrity or character. Silver would refute the rumor whenever it came up, and if he caught the person spreading the rumors in the act, he would openly confront them right there and then. He’s bold and perhaps a little naive in his response, not realizing that sometimes the best thing to do is just ignore the rumors and let your friends come to your aid instead. You can’t fault him too much though—he’s feeling a little more vulnerable right now having just moved to a new school, so for someone to do something like this that was so malicious and out of the blue would totally catch him off guard. He would be equally bold and angry in defending any friends who were the victim of bad rumors.

Does he end up getting any chaos powers and or getting dreams of a certain big green emerald, and feel a weird calling to it? Is the ME in this au? Does he know about Tikal?

Hi friend! 😄 This ask was so fun to respond to!!! It's longer so I put it under the cut. Here’s what I’ve got:

At the beginning of the story, Knuckles knows nothing about Tikal (so he’s in the same boat as the hedgehogs). No one knew what happened to her, so her story isn't in any legends or records. Knuckles is, however, extremely interested in his echidna heritage and has a passion for learning about that history. He feels very connected to and has a deep sense of duty to preserve his cultural past. Something else tells him also that his future is largely connected to that heritage. He studies a lot in his free time about ancient echidna mythology, and multiple times has come across the concepts of these “chaos stones” that seem to have been central to echidna ritual. (It’s an interesting moment when Sonic sees Knuckles reading about that kind of stuff over his shoulder!)

The Master Emerald DOES exist. 🙂 Back in the day, the ancient echidna tribe had the sacred responsibility to honor and protect the powers of both the ME and the chaos emeralds. However, Tikal’s father became obsessed with the idea that in order to 'protect their tribe’, they had to conquer all others. He believed he could do so by using the emeralds. Similar to SA, this makes Chaos absolutely furious and his instinctual, destructive power threatens to destroy everything, Tikal selflessly seals her own soul and the rampaging Chaos inside the ME in order to stop him, successfully calming him down over the next few centuries so he wouldn’t hurt anyone else. When all of that was done, however, Tikal found that her soul was still bound to the ME. This meant she could not move very far from it, nor could she leave it for very long. She also could not move on from this world, and currently has no idea if she will ever be able to do so or if she’ll be stuck in this plane of existence forever. 

SIDE NOTE: The ME also has reality-warping powers. Similar to how the chaos emeralds make the boys unrecognizable when they’re powered up, the ME’s power makes it so the Floating Island on which it resides is invisible to everyone except people who have used chaos energy to travel there before, which is why no one has discovered it yet. (It’s a shock when Sonic, Shadow, and Silver suddenly realize they can suddenly see this huge floating mass of land in the sky after their first trip there lol) It’s also the reason why no planes have crashed into it. 

Knuckles DOES eventually end up getting chaos powers. :D Actually, Tikal seriously considered contacting Knuckles instead of one of the hedgehogs as someone who could help her fix this chaos mess. As a descendent of the ancient echidnas, chaos sensitivity runs in his blood, so he was a natural candidate (chaos sensitivity is much more common among people with certain ancestry— otherwise it tends to crop up randomly in the population, as with the case of the hedgehogs). In the end, however, she couldn’t get the image of her own tribe’s echidnas storming the Emerald Shrine out of her head. What if, when presented with power, Knuckles turned out just like them? She was too afraid to risk it, so she turned to the hedgehogs instead. It isn’t until much later after a lot of resistance that Tikal finally lets Sonic tell Knuckles. She soon realizes that he actually has a heart of gold and is awesome. 🙂 

As for dreams: Sonic, Shadow, and Silver’s initial dreams about each other are an unintended side-effect of Tikal leaving the emeralds with them before she formally met them. (Why would she just drop an emerald with each hedgehog without first appearing to them and explaining things, you ask? Because in her current spirit form, Tikal can’t actually be seen by anyone unless they’ve first been exposed to some form of chaos energy. She had no other choice but to have them interact to some extent with the emeralds first.) Because Knuckles isn’t given an emerald in the same way the boys are initially, he doesn't have any dreams… at least not in the story’s current version. However, you asking me this question is now kinda making me want to add that into the story somehow… Maybe constantly being around Sonic, who is practically radiating chaos energy after weeks of using chaos control, triggers dreams in Knuckles? Maybe not? I’ll have to think about this more!

When Knuckles does get his chaos powers, it’s a while after the boys have had theirs. As of now in my brain, he uses the silver emerald to transform. Knuckles’ chaos abilities give him incredible strength. He does boxing for teens through a local club, and he’s able to combine his boxing training with his new strength to great advantage. He later discovers he can also climb walls and dig extremely efficiently by punching the ground. 

Although Tikal is super hesitant at first, as she introduces Knuckles to everything she eventually finds that it's actually really lovely to have another echidna around. She slowly begins to tell Knuckles more about her people—his ancestors. He’s been secretly teaching himself how to read ancient echidna (which delights Tikal) and she begins to teach him how to speak it. :D Eventually Tikal tells him about the Master Emerald. Because Knuckles has more of a background and a personal connection, Tikal goes into more depth about what the ME meant to her tribe and their legends about it. She tells him about the line of guardians that looked after the emerald and the shrine for centuries. Imagine the moment when Knuckles himself first sees the shrine, covered with Ancient Echidna carvings, and then climbs the crumbling steps to see this mystical gem that he’s read so much about (he is enthralled). Learning so much about his people, more than books could ever tell him, Knuckles finally starts to feel like he’s home. 

Eventually, he’ll learn how to harness the ME’s power, using that (when possible) to power up instead of the white emerald. 

Aaaaand at the end of the story, when Eggman is defeated and the world is safe again, Knuckles becomes the Master Emerald’s next guardian. :^D

Hey Shannon, just found out about this AU & I’m already enamoured with it so I have a few questions. (1) are ships like Shadouge & Silvaze gonna become “CANON”? (2) aside from Eggman (obviously) will there be any other villains, Oc, obscure and/or otherwise? (3) harking back to (1) will tangle & whisper show up & will they get together because they’re hecka adorbs!?

Hello anons! I’m so glad you like my au, thank you! :D In this story, Shadouge, Silvaze, and Sonamy are the canon ships. I love them all so much. :D 

Good questions about villains! Eggman is the main big bad, but there are other bad guys hanging around too. I’m 99% sure Metal Sonic’s gonna show up at some point. Jet, Wave, and Storm are the school bullies. Also, people in the city are gradually being kidnapped and robotized, which form the core cronies that Sonic, Shadow, and Silver have to fight. That's all I know about so far, but who knows, perhaps more will be developed as the story progresses :)

As for Tangle and Whisper, I am actually only a fan of them as close platonic friends, so they will not be a couple. I am sticking mainly to characters from the games for this story anyway (with the exception of Sonic’s parents), so they will not be featured characters. That doesn’t mean they can’t potentially appear as cameos though if this ever becomes a comic! :) (If other people have more questions about the ships included in this au, I mention something about it on the rules page [https://triplethreatsonic.tumblr.com/rules] that might be relevant and helpful)

She tells him about the line of guardians that looked after the emerald and the shrine for centuries. Imagine the moment when Knuckles himself first sees the shrine, covered with Ancient Echidna carvings, and then climbs the crumbling steps to see this mystical gem that he’s read so much about (he is enthralled). Learning so much about his people, more than books could ever tell him, Knuckles finally starts to feel like he’s home. 

Eventually, he’ll learn how to harness the ME’s power, using that (when possible) to power up instead of the white emerald. 

Aaaaand at the end of the story, when Eggman is defeated and the world is safe again, Knuckles becomes the Master Emerald’s next guardian. :^D
