Tbh. I thought the "considers him a brother" line from Malaysia's profile made it quite clear that those 2 are not blood brothers in canon.
That said, everyone is free to have their own interpretations and headcanons ig.
So I’ve seen people shipping Singapore and Malaysia, and I got ask why? Aren’t they related? Not even a adopted-brother, like they’re full blooded brother related?
Before they were introduced in canon a lot of people headcanoned that Singapore and Malaysia would be like a divorced couple due to how Singapore and Malaysia split. That's why people ship them.
It continued after Malaysia was introduced because they had yet to be described as brothers until these latest strips, and frankly there is still some room for interpretation about whether this is a true blood brother situation or just a "call me brother" sort of thing.
But yeah, just block the ship. It's kind of tricky tbh because the divorced couple thing was rather prevalent when they weren't canon so doubtless some people will still choose to interpret it that way, which I believe is fully within their right considering some people have been waiting 10 years for these characters and came up with their own headcanons and OCs during that time.

It got to be the “I <3 SG” shirt. He definitely will have an obsession with red T-shirts. XDDDD
The question is, which poly shirt would HWS Singapore wear. 8'D
We don't talk about unis and we definitely don't talk about NUS.

Now that it is mentioned... I think there is a tendency to just miss the aph ancient tag when tagging aph China content XD””” (and I suppose  most might only tag aph ancient in contents where aph China interacts with another aph ancient... maybe)
ok so I did a tumblr search of “aph ancients”
It turns out the fandom really doesn’t care about China. I’m disappointed. I happen to really like Chinese history and y’all are missing out if you don’t.

I read Silmarillion after I finished LOTR and The Children of Hurin. Each time I finished a book, I just get more interested in the past lol. In the end Silmarillion is the one I can never get out of/ get over. I just keep revisiting and rereading it.
(... tbh LOTR was the hardest to read for me. :I  But I just really love the part with Tom Bombadil. The Children of Hurin was alright but maybe because its such a tragedy I never had the urge to revisit it ever.)

An emperor’s rule is (usually) based on Confucianism and Mandate of Heaven. 江山 and 民心. Aka Realm and People. I think, if anything, they will be wanting to win China’s favor, respect and trust instead of trying to make him into something they can trust (especially not via a process that is very likely to make him not like them…). Just my own two cents on the take.
I feel like people tend to forget that in canon the humans in Hetaverse instinctively know who the personifications are and what they represent… In China’s case, he represents China. Not just any single dynasty but the country/realm. I cannot imagine anyone (or emperors in this case) who will actively hurt or mutilate their country.(at least China’s history in general don’t really give me this impression so yeah).
(Not that they won’t try to “use” of him at all ofc. I usually HC that countries’ bosses at the very least “use” them as a rough gauge of how happy their populace is and how well the country as a whole is doing etc)
I would like to add something to China’s character. Since he’s been around the longest, he must’ve been respected and trusted during each dynasty and emperor. So I head canon that he was a eunuch, or a royal servant who has been completely cut off from their masculinity. Though he obviously can heal from wounds and the such, after so many years, the scars eventually lead up to irreparable damage. The countries are human in more than appearance and they’re’nt immortal. So even they have limits.

Tbh, I do not think that there is “problematic feminization” of China. Imo, he isn’t portrayed as any more feminine than Japan is. I feel that this is more due to cultural bias where the elegant, scholarly gentleman is preferred over the macho warrior in East Asia. (Just compare aesthetics between “eastern” anda “western” games, manga/manhwa and western comics, the difference in preference is very obvious)
And about the long hair ... to me, it symbolizes China’s perseverance towards his cultural traditions, which is more of a positive than a negative point...? (Although I am sure that it might be more because Hima associates the long hair stereotype more with China than with Japan and what Japan got is a very stereotypical “Japanese hairstyle” which is indeed quite true since this would be the first Japanese male hairstyle I think of if I am thinking of Japan)
Also, China isn’t the only one who likes cute things. Japan is shown to like cute things too but due to his personality he is much less up front about it compared to China. Aph Asians actually tend to revolve around China more than Japan I feel... but those might be comic content that are not yet animated. (sudden realization that the omission of Korea in the anime probably impacted Asians’ screentime)
Long sleeves is another stereotype... I personally find it cute though...? If there is anything I have against Japanese (and globally too I might add) stereotypes of Chinese it would be the lack of hanfu and over-representation of qipao but that is another can of worms for another day.
Hima hasn’t grown, the new season won’t be better
Tumblr media
ok, the title is sort of strong but let me explain why I feel this way and maybe you can correct me if I’m wrong and you’ve read the whole post.
Look at our main boys in this new art on https://hetalia-ws.com/  the new official website. Notice anything odd? That’s right, for some ungodly reason china has the face an anime girl makes during an ecchi panty shot. Why do I think this is a symbol that the new season of hetalia won’t be better?
Because hima is sticking with his old representation of china, which by itself is very problematic and I find a good representative of what’s to be in store for us with the other minor characters with problematic portrayals.
“Why is hima’s china problematic?”
Well, we’ll start with the feminization of China… Nothing wrong with gnc people or femininity in general obviously, it’s just the way asian men are constantly degraded for their femininity/ not being enough of a ‘man’. I might have even let this slide if japan received similar treatment since while it isn’t a good stereotype, not all stereotypes can be haha funny quirky Adidas bear, and this is a stereotype which in the west is often extended towards asian men in general, if you think westerners can tell the difference between someone who’s japanese and someone who’s chinese… Well you’re wrong actually. But the thing is, hima didn’t. Maybe he was knew this, maybe he was uncomfortable with it, but either way Japan didn’t get this similar portrayal which really doesn’t help his case against japanese imperialism but that’s still a stretch and a topic for another day honestly. This disconnect between Japan and China’s portrayal is one of the biggest grips that I, as a chinese person have with this show specifically, and if you say no but mah somft uwu femboy china!! This isn’t me speaking out of my ass, many other asian people I’ve met feel equally uncomfortable with the popular fanon and canon femboy china portrayals.
Why is only China feminized as extremely for traditional cultural aspects despite japan sharing the same traits? (long hair as a symbol of confucianism/respect for elders, not feminine at all in traditional chinese culture. Hanfu vs Kimono, why does china always have those long sleeves while those are absent on japan? This is clearly an influence of traditional fashion yet why does japan not have unrealistically long sleeves on his modern day uniform as well? )
Why is China overly obsessed with cute things when japan is the one who Makes them? Wouldn’t it make more sense for them both to like cute things? Why does china have the hello kitty knock off when Japan is the one who it came from and sanrio is pretty icnoic of Japanese kawaii culture? I’m not even going to talk about the concept of japan covering up it’s warcrimes with cute stuff because I highly doubt that is hima’s intention, but if you’re interested you could do some reading on that on the side.
“Why does this mean hetalia season 7 won’t be better?”
Quite frankly, it shows hima has shown no growth. Now we can’t judge problematic aspects of other nations portrayals atm, since in the shot they’re all just sittin there, rather in character or ‘normal’. But China’s weird hentai girl face is a clear indicator that Hima’s continuing his problematic portrayal of at least one character. This can also be used as an indicator of what’s to come. femboy china probably also means the problematic aspects of hetalia canon and fanon will continuing. Including valley girl poland, weirdly sexualized ukraine (a country that currently has parts of it being occupied might I add) ex soviet countries only really mentioned in relation to russia, asian nations being weirdly close to japan. And if he does make other countries we can also probably expected colonized countries being weirdly buddies with their colonizer. You might notice a lot of my issues with hetalia relate to asia/east euro bc yeah, I’m an asian interested in slavs so I’m a bit more aware of the problematic aspects of those countries representations. It goes without saying but just because I didn’t mention a problematic aspect doesn’t mean I condone it, it probably just isn’t something that came to me off the top of my head.
“Does hetalia deserve to be canceled for this?/ Why are you still in the fandom if you hate cannon so much?”
These questions are very valid actually, and I’ll start from answering the last one. I can’t speak for other fans of “historically accurate” personifications but I feel we’re all in this because we see canon’s flaws and we want hima to do better. There are probably some aspects of canon we do enjoy, be it the parts that are funny or the parts that pleasantly surprise us with their accuracy, or maybe we’re just history buffs. Whatever the case we’re still in the fandom for a reason and there’s a bit of canon that we like that’s keeping us here rather then making our own independent country portrayal series.
And canceled idk bro. Hetalia is certanantly problematic, think nazi cosplayers, the nazi america blog, people saying poc don’t need rep because eastern europeans are also oppressed. However I feel there’s also people that aren’t you know, alt right or being groomed by the alt right into extremists. The cringiest people are probably 12 year olds who don’t know any better actually, their only real crime is being given a platform to spew their ignorance taught to them by their parents probably. However there’s definitely people that don’t change, and the fact that “don’t be racist” is so controversial in this fandom for some god damn reason. Why are whole ass adults so unwilling to change their racist/ignorant views? I’ve seen many a child grow /able to refer to their past portrayals of hetalia characters as cringey or problematic, but I haven’t seen one one adult admit they’re in the wrong and apologize.
Anyways, while others are praying for new characters I’m starting to hope that Hima won’t make any since I’m so convinced now that they won’t be good portrayals and just spread around misinformation that poc will then have to clean up and fix. And don’t even get me started on how the western side of the fandom will cling on to these stereotypes as hard as if you were taking away their own mother.
Tldr; China’s portrayal here is important as he’s often portrayed in a very problematic manner, and his extreme resemblance to a anime girl in an ecchi shot is a preview of what this season has in story for us. We can’t see the season a head of time but China, as a main-ish character gives us insight as to weather hima has grown in the however many years long hiatus he’s been on. I agree with the twitter bashing against western fans for the most part actually, curious how they’re the ones who tend to support the most problematic portrayals and then give the fandom a name for being problematic actually. This isn’t some anti-white/west speech btw, if the portrayals of your countries are all wacky and funny of course you’re going to assume other countries portrayals are accurate and all fun and games as well. However just because your country’s portrayal isn’t problematic doesn’t mean other people are too uptight for wanting better portrayal of their own country.
I’m still interested in seeing what season 7 will bring us, but I’m a lot less optimistic of the fandom/show not being as bad as ‘antis’ say it is.

And what do you think about India? *Let's complete the Eurasian empire puzzle ghrh*
Tumblr media
((Thank ;w;
Anyways here’s India! He’s really old, really nice, and really done XD. He’d be like the voice of reason if these four empires ever got together, even though no one would really listen to him.
Also, just to clarify, since Rome was only an Empire from 27 BC to 285 AD, I’m gonna stick with Kushan Empire (30 AD - 375 AD) for India, Parthian Empire (247 BC - 224 AD) for Persia, and Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD) for China when answering questions about the ‘Eurasian Empires’ collectively, even though the last three all have names/dynasties other than the ones I wrote in their profiles :D))
