Familiar Strangers
1. Taking the bus almost every day and noticing the people who are most often there.
2. Working in the same building but different departments or at different companies, seeing each other in passing throughout the week.
3. People orbiting at the outer edges of each other's friend groups.
4. Taking the same workout class and encouraging each other but lowkey not knowing each other's names
5. Making efforts to connect a little deeper every time they meet. (Smiling, saying hello, exchanging a few pleasantries, giving a compliment, trying to start a conversation)

Character A sees character B as an unserious (or perhaps even going so far as incapable) person, until they happen to get the chance to watch B do something there really skilled/ confident at and serious/passionate about.
Ex:
1. Giving a research presentation or otherwise explaining what they've been working on
2. Delivering their artist statement
3. At their job
4. Being interviewed and giving surprising answers
5. Participating in a sport
6. Jumping in to help fix or put together something
7. Cooking with impressive knife skills (or just in general)

Imagine your character practicing what they're going to say the next time they see their crush.
Bonus: when they do talk, said crush immediately deviates from the imaginary script.
