Let's talk about dos oruguitas and abuela..... in dos oruguitas which translate to two caterpillars, the lyrics we're about Pedro and Alma's life before he died. the tunes in if you listen carefully while the song is playing the first verse we're calming, like a love song in the middle part the tune suddenly became sad, and so is the lyrics it is also sang at the part where Pedro died then it became joyous it sounds like that verse was about realization and moving on, because it was that part where abuela realized her mistake and how much she was still attached to the past, at the very last part it said mariposas instead of oruguitas because she finally saw everything about how much pressure she put into her family.

If you watch the movie carefully you can see alot of butterflies from they're door to their clothes. butterfly represent magic and freedom and if you look at abuela she is just like a butterfly inside a cocoon. my headcanon is that those mountains represent a chrysalis where is abuela is the caterpillar. You need to move forward to become a butterfly, but abuela was to scared to do it so she stayed in the chrysalis which is the mountains, not until the magic died and the mountains split into half... I mean look at it the split of the mountain is just like that as of a chrysalis

When alma came out of the mountain and went into search for mirabel that's where she bacame butterfly. but just like any other butterfly they did not just fly away immediately, because still need time to get used to their new form like how abuela still didn't let go of the past not until she told Mirabel everything from how she lost her husband to how she got the miracle. after Mirabel and alma hugged each other that's where she finally got to let go of her past and moved on and in the song dos oruguitas the lyrics also change from ay, oruguitas to ay, mariposas and the two of them were surrounded by yellow butterflies.
