also also. Donny would have all kinds of compliments for Angel all the time. She's gorgeous, he loves her hair and her nails are always done and she wears interesting jewelry. And of course they both have lots of non-appearance based compliments all the time, but it's usually him calling her pretty partially because of social norms and partially because he's just more visual

Donny and Angel stargazing

She comes across very loud and in the show we also see her in loud moments. However. I am thinking about how she warned Ryan not to go back to that building where he found the gold because she had a bad feeling. And something about the way she stops Casey from killing Hun. And I am imagining she can sit quietly with her thoughts for a long time. She has been very independent as a kid, kind of a choice she made to protect herself. I see her sneaking out the window to simply sit outside at night. Just like crouch on the porch. Maybe slip away to a Spot she knows. Her grandmother will of course think she's getting up to something or meeting somebody, and maybe those assumptions are kind of what drives her to that point? Partially boredom but also "okay fine im a bad kid let me prove everyone right." But I think (decided) at first it was just. Wanting to be outside and listen and watch and enjoy the relative quiet of familiar background noise.

I also think that early on after losing her mom, her and Ryan and sometimes Casey did a lot of sitting on porches or docks or empty lots or backs of cars, just chatting. About philosophy, television, shapes in clouds, favorite numbers, moral dilemmas for humor and enrichment.

Angel brings snacks and pillows and blankets and music. Donny brings star charts and a telescope which connects to his computer and all kinds of astronomical tools (and some blankets) (they have too many blankets).

I feel like this is the ideal date for them, easy place to talk about science, childhood, the-stars-are-so-pretty-no-you-are, exchange music. Just a very comfortable way for them to be themselves and get to know each other.

I also feel like, not sure why, but the vibes of the scene in my head are reading very much like Renet's about to show up. And I do think it's a fun idea for a stargazing date to unexpectedly turn into a time travel date. Also so funny because Don's always coming prepared for any and all things and this time his bag was full of telescope and Angel is like 'oh hey good thing I brought snacks! Yes I also have a flashlight and some matches and rope, never know how stargazing with Don will turn out. hehehe I'm like a boy scout :)'

Plus I think it's a fun scene to imagine Renet in. Accidentally shows up half an hour late to fetch the turtles and ends up with one turtle and his girlfriend, now third wheeling, and she would be such a good sport about it too. Like I think Renet, who is used to watching and also just like that, would very much enjoy the third wheel role and try to wingman both of them at once even though they're already together. On the other hand, would not hesitate to say things like "Hello would you two stop staring at each other and help me with this totally urgent situation" absolutely every chance she gets

TMNT 2003 gets accused of being the "edgy" Turtles, but when I look at how well it treats the topics of bodily autonomy, trauma and now ecofacism, I realize that it's all because the show is written with kindness in mind.

Of course it thinks you shouldn't force treatment on people, even if they're what basically amounts to terminally ill, it's being kind.

Of course it sides with trauma victims over the people their trauma might inconvenience, it's being kind.

Of course it doesn't buy into "earth would be better off with less humans", it's being kind.
