Anyone else suck at (re)writing opening songs?
Tumblr media
I can't STAND the fact that I'm having trouble with it, especially since I can't really write the next scene without it. I guess I'm just gonna have to write it out as dialogue first and then retool it as a song.

Like, they couldn't have went to him for "Wish" and "Moana 2"? (Once they figured out M2 was gonna be a film.)

Don't hate me, but I prefer the "unfinished" trailer's designs over the finished one for the Winx reboot
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IDK why the unfinished version is on the official channel. Bloom's hair looks like an actual fire (though they needed to liven up the roots), and the bathroom looks reasonably dull in contrast to the colorful final version. It fits for what I'm assuming is the human world. Plus Mitzi looks more annoyed in the unfinished version, and while Bloom needs more expression, the final version feels too much like Marinette's creepy smile.

...I just made more work for myself
Tumblr media
This is a rough draft for....something. That's all I'll say for now. I may change A LOT later.
Once upon a time in a small village on the edge of a prosperous kingdom rich in romance and tradition, there was a young man who believed there was nothing more important than the power of wishing. As he grew, he soon wanted to venture into the world, and while his parents begged him not to go, they eventually relented, and wished him well.
The young man came upon an elderly fairy, who blessed him with the power of magic and promised to teach him to control it if he denied himself the wish within his heart. The young man was mystified by this request, and he turned rebuffed her request, claiming he could learn to control his newfound abilities without the need to give up a piece of his heart. The fairy placed a rose tattoo upon his shoulder, warning him not to be short-sighted, and that by giving up his own wish, he could save the wishes of others:
"Give to me what you cannot live without,
And you shall become a master without doubt.
But reproach me, and you'll regret it.
You've condemned us all; never forget it."
But his naivete of the world convinced him that she had ill intentions, and he left her. On his journey home, he met a young woman crying by the river. He asked, "What is wrong, beautiful maiden?"
To which she replied that she was the princess of the land, and that her father had been overthrown by his brother and subsequently imprisoned. Only by abdicating her right to the thrown could she save her father.
The man gave a kind, hearty laugh, for on his return, he found that he could perform many magical deeds because of the fairy's gift. He offered to save the king, and the princess thanked him. As they returned to the kingdom, the couple fell in love, and married right before the young man approached the treacherous uncle.
The magical man offered the not-yet king a chance to surrender, to which he turned down. The man prepared himself to defeat the king and the army, but when he as he felt the power course through his veins, the magic he summoned not only attacked the king and his minions, but the man and innocent bystanders as well.
The young man soon realized the truth behind the fairy's words; a lightning bolt split and killed the princess' father. The uncle took advantage of this and disappeared in the chaos with some of his most trusted warriors, escaping into the small village that the young man had once called home. Shortly after arriving, he heard of a young man who had left years ago to learn the ways of the world. The uncle threatened the villagers to tell him where the man had learned magic, but no one knew what he spoke of.
In a rage, the king and his small band of destroyers razed the villagers, like ravenous wolves, consuming everything in their path. The young man soon returned to find the uncle and his army waiting, and in his rage, killed them all, his powers obeying him for once. He grieved the loss of his family and friends while the princess watched him with anger, for it was his own foolishness that had ruined them both. But as he knew grief as well as she, she did not leave him when he ventured to find the fairy once more.
They did not find the same fairy again, but a different one in their path. She told them that she could not help the man control his power, for she did not gift it to him, but if he so wished to control it, and if his wife wished for such powers as him, then they must become the nightmares to people's dreams, taking hope and wishes from those who offered them.
The man was going to refuse her as he did the first fairy, but his wife gave him pause, telling him that by gaining power via meaningless dreams, they could protect significant dreams, and that in the end, it would be a better world for it.
So the young man submitted to his fate, stealing wishes with his wife from unsuspecting people throughout the realm until they had amassed enough power to create their own kingdom. They named it Rosas, after the rose on the man's shoulders, and they abandoned all parts of their pasts, becoming known as King Magnifico and Queen Amaya, the saviors of the world for their ability to grant wishes.
But fate has a cruel way of revealing itself, for many years into their reign, the monarchs gave birth to a healthy baby boy with eyes that gleamed with stars. The king and queen realized to their horror that their son had the natural ability to grant wishes, no magical contracts or training required, and they thought of the destruction that had been caused by the Queen's uncle in his selfish quest for power. They knew that if the prince's powers were ever revealed, he would be coveted, or even feared. As such, they kept him within the castle for many years, and the people of Rosas could sometimes see glimpses of a pair of stars behind the castle walls. It had never occurred to them that a star had fallen to Earth.

We're making progress here...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Magic Winx looks aren't great, but not the worst. Not crazy how Bloom's feels like her Cosmix look and Stella's shoes look horrendous. IDK if Damien is a replacement specialist or an addition, but maybe it means the guys will get more screentime/development. And I'm guessing Aisha and Stella's civilian looks are redesigns from their OG leaked reboot looks, which got mixed reactions. I like them, but Aisha's feels like an update on her classic look rather than a new look entirely, and Stella using her transformation colors feels on the nose. NGL, I hope they give Bloom a new civilian costume; it has too much going on--but if everyone else looks better than her, it kinda fits the narrative with her as the main character.

The more I think about it, the more I think Mr. Sinister should've been the main villain of "X-Men: Evolution" with Magneto as a recurring villain

I'm pretty sure it's already been addressed how his experimentation with Kurt was almost identical to how Sinister exposed Nathan to the virus.

Working on my rewrite of "Wish," and I'm starting to wonder if Star was removed because he seemed more interesting than Asha
Tumblr media
After all, he (or they) is a shapeshifter with humor and magic, and seems like a breath of fresh air from male (well, male-presenting) leads in recent Disney films.

Hot take: It throws me off with how thin they are
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn't a hate post or anything. I think Rapunzel, Anna, and Raya are beautiful--it's just that their designs make them feel a bit too skinny, either in terms of overall design (at least in 3D; it's more noticeable) or based on their character. Rapunzel and Anna's designs feel just a bit too skinny, simply for the purpose of marketability; I never noticed how thin Anna was until "The Next Right Thing" and she arches her back and I see how small her frame is. Rapunzel always seemed small to me, and her voluminous hair made it feel even more so. With Raya, she isn't too small in terms of design, but as a warrior, I do wish she was more buff. I'll attribute her (and Rapunzel's) thinness due to their specific lifestyle/situations, but it was too bad to not see a bit more of an athletic build for Raya--something akin to Wonder Woman, depending on her artist--when she's always trained to be a warrior. I definitely feel like Moana and Mirabel were better-designed as skinny women, as they didn't really look disproportionate or unhealthy.

"A Wish to the Stars" (Aion solo; possibly just a draft)
Tumblr media
Finally making significant progress on Act I of my "Wish" rewrite, and I realized I was neglecting something that "Wish" did as well: the friend group! Who are the Dreamers? What are their wishes? How does it motivate them throughout the film? Here's the answer to one of them. Introducing Aion, a Native American-inspired young man who lost his brother to magic and fears Talia will lose to it if he's not careful. He tries to keep up a bubbly attitude (most similar to Dario from the Teens), often using sign-language since the aforementioned trauma has him rarely speaking. Despite my commitment with Talia/Anselm's romance, I wanted our star to make friends with other characters as well, and the Dreamers are the perfect group. Check out the song I wrote for Aion's first encounter with Anselm (or rather, his energy; I do like the idea that he vocalizes similar to the voice in "Frozen 2"), and just how much he's been holding in. However, in reference to the last part of my title, I'm not sure about this song just yet. I kinda think I should go for something more theatrical; a lot of the time when I write these songs, it flows naturally, but perhaps that's too easy...And while I made a post about the characters before, maybe I should do a new one. Whaddya think?
(Verse 1)
You know I always believed in fairy tales.
A dream's a wish your heart makes.
You told me everything happens for a reason,
But what happened was a mistake.
You were incredible,
Talented, unforgettable,
So why did your story end?
"Let it go,
Forget it,"
But I still regret it,
It's the same as playing pretend.
(Chorus)
So I
I make a wish to the stars
That you can hear me
That you'll return to this world,
I miss you dearly!
If I lost my voice for real,
Could you return? That's the deal.
I would trade every part of me
So you could change the way I feel!
(Verse 2)
(Shuddering breath)
You know, they cleaned up your room
We don't talk about you now.
I can't say much of anything
I keep my feelings down.
But if I go the distance
Can I restore your existence
Find you in an endless sky?
"Be prepared,
You're almost there,"
When should I not care?
Your place in my heart won't die.
(Chorus)
So I
I make a wish to the stars
That you will return
That you'll ruffle my hair
And ease my concerns!
Second star to the right
Is that where you are tonight?
I feel a darkness moving in
Can you send me some of your light?
(Bridge)
Can I still chase after you?
I can't can't keep up.
Busy trying to fill your shoes
Please don't leave me behind,
I still got more of my heart to lose!
When will I start healing,
Stop this aching feeling?
The stars are gleaming, but I can't tell
What are they revealing?
(Chorus)
So I
I make a wish to the stars
'Cause that's all I've got!
Yes I have friends and family,
But to keep them, what is the cost?
How far will I go to face this danger,
To let out my anger?
And if I got you back, it's been so long,
Can I be healed by a stranger?

"So I Look up to the stars to guide me" (Human Star mini-mood board inspo for my rewrite)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently working on my "Wish" rewrite entitled "Stargazer" and it is A LOT more challenging than I thought. I didn't realize how rusty my writing skills were...But in any case, here is my inspiration for my take on Star, who I call Anselm (yes, it's a Kingdom Hearts reference, plus it fits because the name's German and my location for the story is German-inspired). And it's worth noting that Anselm has two sides: the "daylight" form (social, friendly, playful, flirty, bubbly, big brother-ish) and his "nightshade form" (reclusive, philosophical, difficulty expressing emotions, wise), so my inspo kinda pulls him in two different directions. Plus there are some hints to certain story plots with some of the images I chose.
And note: I've also taken inspiration from several Disney characters for this, but I wanted to do a specific board for the non-Disney characters who inspired me for Anselm.

Hot take: "The Little Mermaid" (2023) shows what live-action Disney should be doing, but not in the way you think
Tumblr media
Controversy abounded at the fact that a black girl played Ariel and the film moving from a European country to the Caribbean, and while a good amount of things were changed for the story (to be fair, "Maleficent," "Cruella," and "Mulan" also did this, and "Snow White" seems poised to do so as well, so they're more akin to reimaginings), I think it highlighted what Disney should be doing. You see, original Disney live-action films are hit or miss, so they rely on remakes A LOT more than they should. But there's something to it. While I think remakes are overdone these days, making fairy tale musicals in the live-action format would be ideal for Disney--new fairy tales, or at least ones that had nothing to do with the animated film. Exploring different cultures (like they did with TLM) would be nice, and introduce us to new characters and stories that we could fall in love with. It'd still be Disney, but still original. Not to mention that without having to attach them to an animated "for kids" property, you can make more PG-13 films (since a lot of studios would want to use that rating to appeal to more people versus PG films).

The missed potential for "Wish" taking from "Shrek 2"!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've said it before, but a wicked fairy godfather being the antagonist for "Wish" would've been a great homage to fairy tales, as well as make sense of the ending we got.
