The story of ranch dressing dates back several decades, to the late 1940s. In fact, the claim to the first creation of this strictly American condiment goes to a man named Steve Henson who originally thought of the concoction of buttermilk and herbs when he was working in Alaska.

After moving to California and purchasing the Hidden Valley dude ranch in California, Henson started serving and selling his salad dressing commercially. The company grew through mail-order and started to become very popular throughout the United States.

Ranch style dressing was originally sold as dry packets of herbs and spices that were meant to be mixed with milk and mayonnaise. Today, it can still be found in this powdered style, which is particularly easy for travel, or it can be purchased in bottles that are pre-mixed and ready to eat.

Herbert Zipper was an internationally renowned composer, conductor, and arts activist who was imprisoned at Dachau in the 1930s. During that time, he had had crude musical instruments constructed out of stolen material and formed a secret orchestra that performed on Sunday afternoons for the other inmates.

Released in 1939, he accepted an invitation to conduct the Manila Symphony Orchestra but was jailed for four months by the Japanese during their occupation of the Philippines. After his release, he worked secretly for the Allies, transmitting shipping information by radio. In 1946 he emigrated to the United States, where he conducted the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra and promoted music education. In this photo, taken on March 10, 1949, he was conductor of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, and he makes some observations on an opera to violinist Sylvia Medford.

Just had a Thought and now I'm curious. What's you guy's strangest comfort media? It doesn't have to be strange as in like creepy/fucked up/whatever, it can just be smthn a lil odd.

#Mine is a drum corps show from 2015 LMAO #Carolina Crown's “Inferno” to be exact lol #this was during my peak Band Kid years and also the height of my Divine Comedy fixaction so this just scratched SUCH a good itch #i would literally just watch this like 13 min long marching band show over and over #and try to figure out what parts of the music represented what parts of the poem #thank god i had other band friends i could just word vomit about this too at the time lol #every few months or so i'll fall back into it and reanalyze it a lil weirdo too lol #anyway 10/10 show would recommend if you like band stuff n dante LMAO
