It was nice to be visited by a large flock of Bohemian Waxwings yesterday! They were devouring crabapples and making themselves at home. After hundreds of pictures, I managed to get a few decent ones. I did see one Cedar Waxwing within the group, but failed to get a good picture of it. I can still hear them in the distance today, so they might make another appearance. My camera will be ready!
and Happy Easter! :)
F asked me to stop by walmart and pick up apples - which confused the heck out of me because we both believe walmart eats time and their produce sucks, until I realized she meant the apple trees you can walk to from the walmart parking lot. I made two batches of apple fritters and dehydrated some apples (which we have eaten already)
During hikes we sampled various crab apples which ranged from the bitterest crabapple I have ever tasted to sweet but tiny little striped apples.
I had to hike amost to the edge of the nearest state park, but I finally found unsmashed giant puffballs. There were at least 10 in the area, and I took home one of the smallest but my house is still full of puffball. I have made soup, dehydrated a bunch, and still have a good-sized wedge in the fridge. I might try going back for one later when I have more time because I'd love to try making a puffball lasagna, but IDK if that'll happen this year because we're always overwhelmed.
I also collected some milkweed pods to try to plant in our yard for next season.
I still cannot fathom that Crabapple is TEN YEARS OLD, but here we are! I've started a new crowdfunding campaign to celebrate, and I'm excited to introduce his little sister--Happycwab.
They may seem like total opposites but at the end of the day they're both VERY crab in different ways, hehe.
While Crabapple will pinch you with full grump on his face, Happycwab fools all into believing she's just a sweet apple blossom baby... a baby who will st*b you while smiling.
If you're ready to have a CRABBY TIME, why not join us on backerKit? 🦀
I've tried doing landscapes with markers and paint before, but they never turned out 100% satisfactory. I attempted watercolours a few weeks ago, and that turned out even worse! However, I experimented with pastel pencils yesterday, and the results are not horrible. It's far from perfect, but I think pastel was the medium that ended up looking the best. Just a typical greenbelt scene in May. I might end up using this for something in the future.
