STORY: #YasmineJames, 20, started working at the #McDonalds in #StPetersburg three months ago. On Monday, a #customer got aggressive when she informed him he had to ask for a straw. After cursing and yelling at her, she said he leaned over the counter and attacked her. "He grabbed me and that really scared me because I didn't know if he had a gun or a knife or what," #James said. "When he grabbed me, my main thing was to get him off of me the best way I knew. Just let me go." James, who learned how to box as a teenager, fought back as fellow coworkers stood by idly as seen in the viral video. She said her manager didn't come to her aid, but doesn't fault them for it. She claimed they've never received proper training to deal with unruly customers. She is now calling on McDonald's to improve employee safety and train managers to de-escalate similar situations. "I don't want it to be blamed on him, I want to blame it on the way he was trained 'cause he is not a bad manager," she said. "It's just that when that thing happened it's like he didn't know what to do." #DanielTaylor, 40, was arrested in connection with the attack. He was charged with two counts of simple battery. In a statement issued #Thursday, McDonald's said its "highest priority" is the #safety of everyone in the #restaurant. Coming into the New Year on that shit. He wasn't ready. This was in Florida and he was arrested. To all of you that are upset, let me lay something even heavier on you. Bastards like these in the past have ALWAYS felt entitled to hit and beat black women. For hundreds of years, it was the black woman that was used and abused in ways many of you can not imagine. Think about that for a minute. This animal that hit this young lady, he felt he could get away with it because they always have. My thoughts are always on the African American woman, once disposal and walked upon, we are witnessing centuries of mistreatment come to the forefront. Do understand this, just a few days ago, a black mother and her seven year old was shot and murdered here in Houston. In the south, all are witnessing the last of white patriarchal darkness try it's best to bring back the ole south, victimizing who he has always hurt beyond all others, the vulnerable black woman. As I watch this young lady defend her honor and dignity with pure zeal and afforded viciousness, a part of me cries for the black women that would have been killed instantly for doing less, probably having to deal with so much more. I cry for this lost woman, but I also know that a small piece of her is still alive, still fighting. This time she will win, a battle that will make us all stronger and better.
