„This must've been so expensive, though!” you whispered out, shock and disbelief in your words. You could feel your scent start to sour with worry.
At the change, they all jumped into action, the first to react was Jungkook, who gasped loudly before he took your cheeks in his palms.
„Babybun no! It's okay; don't worry about that. It's very important for alphas that you get only the best bunny. Don't you worry about a thing, sweet baby. Do you want to open it now?”
The alpha said, his eyes big with worry. They wanted to spoil you, and they will, but the packmates didn't want you to freak out about any prices either. You didn't have to worry about things like that.
They were very wealthy, so it was only fitting for them to buy you luxury; you didn't deserve anything else. You were their courted omega after all.
Nodding a little bit, you were still very confused. Why were they spending so much money on you?
Whispering out a soft okay, you felt the packalpha pet your head gently, the other alpha helping you pull the plastic seals open.
It was cream-coloured and had a 3D small plaid bump-like pattern, adding to the texture. And the fabric—oh, but the fabric.
You never cared so much about what your clothes were made of, which would bite you back from time to time when you would get skin irritations.
But this was so soft; it was so comforting and gentle on your finger tips; you never felt something like this. You felt your lips strech out into a soft smile, blinking your eyes up at the alpha's watchful gazes.
They knew this was one of the best qualities on the market, but they still felt the need to make sure you actually liked it.
„...It's so soft-!” You gasped, your voice airy and soft. Chuckling softly at you, Jin smiled softly before standing up and going to the kitchen again. Ruffling up your hair on his way. „That's good, then, peaches.”
„Here, bub, we've got you a few more things.” Hoseok smiled widely at you, patting your tight gently and urging you to look back into the giant paper bag on your lap.
Hesitating a little bit, you looked inside again. The packalpha was gently rubbing his chin over the back of your shoulder, helping you pull out the next air-sealed package that had another label on it.
Introducing our exceptional organic cotton sheet set, dyed with the delicate essence of dried poppy petals. Experience the epitome of comfort and sustainability with this luxurious bedding. 270x320 top and bottom; 50x80 2x Shams
Machine wash in cold water with mild liquid biodegradable detergent without added bleach or whiteners. Dry on a low setting and remove before completely drying. Line-dry completely, then fold and iron.
Breaking the plastic seals open for you, Hobi helped you pull out the sheet set. It was a very soft grey tone of beige and shone a little bit in the light, reminding you of silk.
Mumbling a soft wow, you turned to Hobi, who smiled at you softly. „We weren't sure about what colour to get you; we will buy new ones when you come with us some time, okay, baby? Don't worry, sunshine.”
„No, no, I love it; thank you so much; seriously, this is too much!" You said, your fingertips going over the fabric. It also felt very soft and didn't carry any smell.
You were used to having sheets from cheap stores, and the biggest difference you noticed (apart from the fabric feeling so much better to touch) was how fully unscented everything was.
It made you feel a lot better since you wouldn't have to sleep in a bed covered with the weird scent of someone you didn't know.
„Good, that's really good, babycheeks.” Taehyung said, watching you fondly. Looking in the bag again, you pulled out a matte black bottle with a cream-white label. Reading over it made you quite excited.
For nights as beautiful as your days, we imagined the Sleep & Glow Sleep Mist! Combining effectiveness and olfactory hedonism, it contains a patented sleep-enhancing accord promoting sleep associated with essential oils with recognized properties such as neroli and petit grain.
Room spray with neroli and petit grain is sleep-promoting, nerve-calming, and relaxing.
INGREDIENTS
Alcohol Denat., Aqua (Water), Parfum (Fragrance), Citral, Eugenol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool
100ml
„It's for sleeping princess; it should help you rest better during the nights.” The alpha mumbled, smiling gently at you. After the last night of you waking up so scared, they didn't want you to sleep unwell anymore.
And so, after work, the packmates decided that it would be a great idea to make a stop at one of the luxury Omega-targeted stores, full of nesting materials.
They didn't know what to get you when they arrived. Well, that's not a good way to put it. They knew that they would most likely buy you the whole store—every blanket, pillow, and sheet that seemed comfortable enough for them to want to buy for you.
Since all the items were so carefully sealed, they wouldn't be able to touch them right away and feel the fabric themselves, but the store owners already thought that through beforehand; a small sample of the fabric was stuck right next to the price tags on the shelves.
They wandered around the store for a bit, but soon a store assistant rushed over—a nice-looking beta man that had a name tag written on it, reading Min Chungo.
Quickly, the packmates got into a few sentences with him, telling him about you. Quick to understand, the man also revealed that he has an omega in his pack, going over the best advice for better sleep he has discovered alongside his packmates.
Telling them about the wonders a good sleep mist does, the alphas were quick to put it in their cart, smelling each sample carefully to determine which was the best.
Walking them through the store, the beta helped them choose different nesting materials, explaining every detail of them.
Opening the cloudy grey cap, you smelled the nozzle, and it really did smell well. It felt comforting already—not too overbearing and overwhelming, just enough for you to hardly notice it.
„It smells so well, thank you. You breathed out, nudging it towards Taehyung, who also smelled it. Nodding to himself, he was more than satisfied with his other packmates choices.
Taking out the last thing from their shopping spree, Namjoon ripped off the airseals once again, handing you the package. Reading over the label, it said:
TOTEME
monogram silk pyjama set
Ivory monogram silk pyjama set from TOTEME features a monogram pattern, a camp collar, front button fastening, long sleeves, and a straight hem. This print was created to be entirely unique.
Silk 100%
Dry Clean Only
Unfolding the clothing, the fabric felt so smooth against your fingers. The pattern was quite subtle; the cream-white background had only the thinnest lines over it, completing big, written-out letters.
Not being able to contain your excitement, you hugged Jungkook first, the alpha giggling softly at you, his eyes sharing only joy.
„Thank you, alphas.” You whispered out, bit in daze still. You could hear a few deep rumbles come from the men, satisfied with your words.
Hopping back up, you decided to go shower now, taking the new pyjamas you were given to change into. Taking the stairs two at a time, the packmates watched carefully over you, making sure you wouldn't trip.
And so, while you were showering and finishing up your night routine, they all rested back and watched the TV. The soft background audio was nice to listen to.
With Jin preparing some foods for you in the morning and a dinner too, eventually Jimin and Jungkook both went on to help him. It didn't take long before you came back down, a pair of thin white socks on and the silk pyjamas on. You looked comfortable.
Your hair seemed a bit damp, but your face was bright, and you looked happy. The clothes fit you great; they weren't too sure about what size they should get you while they were in the store, but after having a longer discussion about it, they decided that if it wouldn't fit you well, they would come exchange them first thing in the morning.
„Jin oppa! Look at my new pyjamas!” You said, your voice excited as you rushed to the kitchen, stopping next to the counter.
The pants legs seemed a bit long on you, that was for sure, but you didn't seem to mind. You weren't stepping on them either, only having them cover most of your feet, your thumbs peeking out only a little bit.
Turning to you, he also smiled at you, meeting your excitement. Washing his hands quickly, he came to you, crouching a little before you, looking over the fabrics.
„You look adorable, sweet cub. Is it comfortable?” Jin asked, his eyes watching yours closely. You didn't shy away from his warm gaze, instead only nodding enthusiastically.
Nodding to himself, he stood back up, pulling you close for a hug. Resting your face over his wide shoulder, you breathed in the gentle scent he carried. Patting your lower back, he looked back at you.
„Come taste the beef stew, baby.” He said, nudging you with him towards the other two alphas that were also wearing the grey aprons. Smiling at you, Jimin ran his fingers over your back, softly encouraging you to come closer.
Pulling you behind himself, the alpha opened the oven, letting the hot air out before he stepped closer, being mindful not to burn you or himself. Taking a spoon and scooping up a bit of the sauce and a small piece of the meat, he blew on it for a second.
Turning to you again, you parted your lips a bit, allowing him to pluck the spoon from your mouth. Chewing softly, the meat was already tender, and the sauce was delicious—sour but sweet at the same time; it was very tasty.
Nodding vigorously while still chewing, the alphas softly laughed at your reaction. Putting the spoon away, Jimin pulled you to his front quickly.
Swaying you from side to side gently, the alpha rubbed his cheek over your hair softly, proud of his packmates and himself that they prepared food that you liked once again.
„Go wait with the other alphas for a minute, princess; we will come get you soon. It won't take long before we eat, hm?” Patting your lower back, you were ushered to the couch again, where even Yoongi sat now.
Cooing at you when you came closer, you took a seat between Taehyung and Hoseok, resting your back against the soft pillows. „The colour looks so nice on you, babycheeks!” He gasped, nudging your soft skin on your face.
Smiling up at him, you thanked him softly before you relaxed and started paying attention to the TV once again.

Calling you all for dinner, the packmates slowly stood up, finishing up their cans of beer. Yoongi soon followed after the others.
Pulling out a chair for you, you sat down, the youngest alpha placing a wooden bowl, a pair of chopsticks, and a spoon before you once more. Crouching beside you, he looked up at your face.
„What would you like to drink, my sweetest bunny?” He asked, caressing your cheek gently with his knuckles. Thinking over it, you weren't feeling like drinking much sugar anymore tonight.
„Can I maybe... have sparkling water?” You asked, looking at your lap in shyness. Pursing his lips a bit, the alpha furrowed his brows.
„I'm sorry, pup, but the bubbles could upset your tummy, especially before sleep... What about normal water instead sweet cub? I'm sorry, sweetheart.” The pack alpha stepped in, knowing that saying no to you was exceptionally hard for the youngest.
Sighing out a bit in disappointment, you nodded gently, going along with it. You trusted them well already, and if they said that you might get sick, it was true.
„Thank you, babybun.” Jungkook mumbled out, placing a tall glass of cold water before you. Carrying a big pot and a few smaller bowls, all the alphas worked to set the table.
Putting rice with a bit of spring onion in your bowl first, the packalpha then poured over the steaming stew, with a few smaller pieces of beef placed on top. Sprinkling over sesame seeds and spring onion, you thanked him for plating a dish for you so nicely.
It was a very important tradition for the packalphas to prepare the meals for their pack, and since Namjoon wasn't the most skilled regarding cooking, he at least plated the food whenever he was around.
You really liked this dish. It wasn't spicy at all, but it felt very warm and made you feel at home.
Putting his chopsticks down for a second, the pack alpha sat up a little, watching over his packmates. With his eyes staying on you, he went on to talk.
„Sweet pup, me, and the others stayed behind today to talk with our pack affairs managers.” He didn't say much more until a few seconds later, when your face suddenly became very present and your utensils were also down.
At that point, most of the alphas also stopped eating, wanting to be able to talk if needed.
„We had talked with them about you staying in our packhouse now, we got a green on that one. However, it's important for us that you know that if you were our own omega after all, you might have to travel a lot with us, sweetheart.”
All of them closely watched your reaction as you listened to him speak. After a few seconds when you didn't say anything, you finally spoke, your voice soft and gentle.
„I don't mind travelling much, just... I'm not sure about school and such." You were only in the middle of your studies, still only in your second year. Understanding quickly, Namjoon was already a step ahead.
„I know about that, and I have already contacted your college teachers with the management.
We came to the conclusion that after this semester, it shouldn't be a big problem for you to transfer to online classes from time to time. We would still have to talk the details out, but they were very understanding since it's regarding a pack.”
Nodding slightly, you thought over the option for a second or two. You weren't sure what online classes would be like in art school.
During the worst of COVID, your whole year of school was prolonged and stepped off, so your year started their studies later than was planned in exchange for not having any online classes.
„I guess it should be okay...” You whispered out.
„I know that it's very sudden, pup, but trust me, it would be different if it were possible. We are having a bit of a break right now from any concerts, so we wouldn't have to travel that soon, but I think it would be better to start adjusting to the planes and such; there are a lot of long plane rides from time to time."
The pack alpha realised how problematic those could truly be. The pressure changes, the loud screams of their fans and the paparazzi...
You might have a few issues at first. They would need to soften the blow as much as possible before they would truly start travelling a lot again.
„We just thought it would be better for you, princess, to start coming on the sets more often and get to know some of our staff, managers, and security so you would know who is safe...” Jimin softly said, his voice caring and sweet.
They knew that the adjustment could be harsh, and with how unusual it was for omegas to constantly change locations, often getting unsettled after such stress, they just wanted to help as much as possible.
„Yea, I understand.” You murmured. Hearing them sigh out softly at that, you felt the alpha that sat next to you caress your hair again.
„Thank you so much, kitty.” Yoongi whispered, already picking up a small piece of meat with his own chopsticks and nudging it in your direction.
And so, the dinner continued on. After you finished your meal, you helped pick up the dishes too, this time being faster than any of the men trying to pull you back.
Placing them on the counter, you noticed the eldest alpha already standing with the sleep spray and your new bedding in his arms, looking over you with soft eyes.
Following him closely, a few of the other alphas also started to come up themselves. Turning on the lights in your room, Jin placed all the items on the bed.
„I'll change the sheets for you, soft peaches.” He said it gently, having you nod at him and thank him softly.
Going to brush your teeth in the washroom, you also went to comb your hair, but before you even had the time to do so, Taehyung had already waltzed in, taking the brush from you before he started doing so himself.
Smiling at you through the mirror, he ran his long fingers through your soft locks, mindful not to tangle them up for you anymore. „There, babycheeks. Come on, it's time for sleep now.”
He murmured, taking your palm in his, leading you back through the doors to the bedroom. Jin has already finished setting everything up, and so after he noticed you coming back, he uncovered the duvet for you, letting you slip in before he placed it over you again.
Taking the brown jumper into your arms again, you breathed in the soft scent it carried now. Brushing your hair through, the oldest gently watched over you, his gaze soft and fond.
„There you go, sweet cub. Rest well tonight; alphas are always close if you need anything, peaches. I'll be downstairs for a bit longer; just come there if you need anything, my baby.” He mumbled, hand caressing your temples softly.
Nodding a little, the man smiled at you, tucking the blanket close to you before he stood up and went to get the others so they could also tell their sweet good nights.
Taehyung took a seat next to you on the bed, and he too gently went over your hair, smiling softly at you.
„My sweet babycheeks. Sleep well tonight, alright? If you need anything, we are only a call away.” He mumbled gently, his palms rubbing over your covered shoulder.
Murmuring a soft yes, you folded the hoodie closer to yourself, only your nose and eyes peeking out. With your room's doors opening once again, the others started to walk in one by one.
The first to crouch next to you once again was Hobi, smiling widely at how you hold the hoodie close to yourself. He felt very proud of himself for helping you settle down so well with his own clothing.
„Soft sunshine, is it warm enough? The bedsheets aren't scratchy at all, right? ...good. Make sure you sleep well tonight, bub; we care for you lots and lots. You wouldn't want to upset your alphas, hm?”
Tightening your grip on the fabric, you shook your head a bit. Smiling softly at you, the man watched you closely before he also stood up, patting your hair a little. Walking over to the windows, he made sure all the curtains were tightly shut.
Walking over, the youngest alpha giggled a little at how cuddled up you looked—with the heavy duvet and the throw blanket over yourself, you seemed to be warm tonight. Rubbing his knuckles over your cheek, his fingers gently caressed your face.
„Sleep tight, babybun. If you have any bad dreams, come to alpha right away, okay, sweet baby?” Agreeing silently once again, you let him hold your palm for a few seconds, his thumb going gently over your knuckles.
Allowing the other man to step in, Jungkook moved, letting Jimin take a seat on the bed himself. Placing a glass of water on the bedside table, he couldn't hold a soft coo in, noticing just how settled and tired you seemed already.
„Aigoo... Princess, sweet baby. Rest your eyes now, hm? You're safe here, sweet cub. We got you.” Rubbing his hands on your back, he let his two older packmates have their goodnights soon, going over to Jungkook, who was looking over the heater now.
Crouching on the ground, Yoongi let his palms cover your cheeks fully, his thumbs rubbing the soft skin you had under your eyes. Smiling gently at you, his gummy smile peeked out, making you also smile a bit.
„Kitty, you just sleep for now, okay? Alpha's will take care of everything; you don't have to worry about a thing, baby.” Bending over your form slightly, the alpha rubbed his chin over the crook of your neck, letting his scent cover it.
You should be able to sleep a bit better with their scents around you. Remembering the sleep mist his packmates bought for you, he took the bottle from the small table next to the bed, opening up the cap before he stepped back.
Spraying out only a soft hint of mist, it soon went around the whole room. After checking that everything was turned off and no one was in the bathroom or the walk-in closet, he felt his worried alpha needs settle down.
„Baby pup, aren't you just the softest little thing, sweet baby? Close your eyes for now; let the alphas take care of everything, cub. Alphas got you; don't you worry about a thing now.”
Namjoon softly voiced it, his fingers combing through your hair. With that, you felt sleep come over you fully.

Thinking of your post on the problems of veganism as a movement vs veganism as a lifestyle choice/one technique amongst many, that also applys super well to my issues with degrowth (And anticonsumerism as well) as a movement vs degrowth as one technique amongst many for dealing with the hydra-crisis of overproduction/resource overuse/destroying people and places for resources.
Like, in particular as an autistic person the continual recurring insistence that we need to just "change our desires" creeps me out. As someone who's difficulties were dismissed as just "having a bad attitude" and who's interests were so often dismissed as a waste of time instead of preparing for a job in the "real world" IDK if they truly understand the full horrifying implications of that line of thought.
So here's the thing with the concept of "overconsumption"
I had to do this whole project on overconsumption in my Anthropology class where I compared my consumption habits to those of someone 2 generations older, the prof clearly had in mind that we would discover a particular result that I did not end up finding.
I had to watch this documentary called "Affluenza" which was all about how Americans consume too much and they shop and buy things for fun and it's killing the planet, and it kept making these statements like "The average american does X..." and "X" would be something insane that I've never dreamed of doing.
Now I technically grew up below the poverty line, we were always financially insecure and struggling to pay bills and there was never any extra money lying around.
But my upbringing felt average, even privileged. We had a house instead of a trailer on cinder blocks, we had food and clothes. Compared to the upbringing of my mom and virtually everyone she knew growing up, we lived in fabulous luxury.
And the "overconsumption" lesson was bizarre to me because it brought up things like "going shopping for fun once a week" and "owning 20+ pairs of shoes" as if they were normal. I wear my clothes until they're unwearable and shop for clothes like once a year, and my mom has half as many clothes as I do. She feels guilty buying anything for herself and HATES shopping.
It feels like the dominant resources on living an eco friendly lifestyle presume that we have far more agency in what we buy and use than we actually do, instead of being stuck with the cheapest or closest available thing, and that our lives are full of extraneous, non-essential "consumption."
That class brought up the idea of "conspicuous consumption" a lot, or buying things to obtain social status instead of for their concrete utility. The way "conspicuous consumption" was addressed in the class was not very immediately relatable to me—I never had the option of buying clothes just to appear "with it" socially. My parents couldn't buy an extra car to fit the aesthetic of the American dream—we had enough trouble keeping the one we had running. The "conspicuous consumption" that class addressed was just not available to me.
However, I don't think conspicuous consumption is endemic to stable members of a certain socioeconomic status, because consumption is partially driven by the trauma of poverty. People who grew up poor will buy you more Christmas gifts than you can store or use, because they want to spare you the shame they experienced. Their brains are molded around the trauma of not having enough, and giving you enough is their way of keeping you safe.
Conspicuous consumption as a habit is pushed on you if your ancestors were shaped by this trauma. It is a misrepresentation to think of it as driven by pride, because your ability to perform the behaviors and mimic the appearances of a higher socioeconomic status has a concrete effect on how people treat you.
I know J.D. Vance is a nutjob now and Hillbilly Elegy was...not great (I'm more appalachian than you bitch, and I'm not even appalachian!) but the one thing that book got incredibly right was the idea of "social capital" and the way access to financial security and wealth gives you social capital. This is the main thing the current understanding of "conspicuous consumption" gets wrong—the need to escape the appearance and behaviors of poverty is seen as vain and self-indulgent, when it's a survival mechanism and it's something you're expected to engage in to gain opportunities and respect.
Poverty is humiliating. People with money never think about the fact that they have money. They think of themselves as average, if they think of themselves in terms of socioeconomic status at all. Being poor ends up embedded in the grooves and folds of your brain.
I remember when I was about 12, I gave my friend an informal tour of our house the first time she came over, showing her every room. I realized later that this wasn't exactly a normal behavior—I had done it because my mom did the same thing when she brought her friend over, and my mom had done it because it was a way of saying look, I survived. Look, I have a place to live to call my own, isn't this nice?
At its worst, anti-consumerism just reinforces the myth that your consumption is purely a matter of personal choice. And unfortunately when the conversation is ruled by the privileged, this idea will appear substantiated—because rich people can choose the aesthetics of poverty without concretely affecting the way the world treats them. A rich person can choose to live in a "tiny house" but they will never be "trailer trash."
Anti-consumerism revolves around ideas that are almost irreparably tainted by the mythology of an unequal society. Rich people possess and control the aesthetic of restraint and frugality, allowing them to playact living a Simple Life where they live in a tiny minimalist cottage and eat Healthy Vegan Oat Gruel, while McDonalds is the emblem of American excess. It is poor people's behaviors and habits that exemplify excess and greed.
Anti-consumerism isn't going to change anything until it openly confronts the fact that poverty is traumatic and consumption patterns often arise from poverty survival mechanisms.

Women have long surpassed men in the arena of environmental action; across age groups and countries, females tend to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Compared to men, women litter less, recycle more, and leave a smaller carbon footprint. Some researchers have suggested that personality differences, such as women’s prioritization of altruism, may help to explain this gender gap in green behavior.
Our own research suggests an additional possibility: men may shun eco-friendly behavior because of what it conveys about their masculinity. It’s not that men don’t care about the environment. But they also tend to want to feel macho, and they worry that eco-friendly behaviors might brand them as feminine.
The research, conducted with three other colleagues, consisted of seven experiments involving more than 2,000 American and Chinese participants. We showed that there is a psychological link between eco-friendliness and perceptions of femininity. Due to this “green-feminine stereotype,” both men and women judged eco-friendly products, behaviors, and consumers as more feminine than their non-green counterparts.  In one experiment, participants of both sexes described an individual who brought a reusable canvas bag to the grocery store as more feminine than someone who used a plastic bag—regardless of whether the shopper was a male or female.  In another experiment, participants perceived themselves to be more feminine after recalling a time when they did something good versus bad for the environment.
Men may eschew green products and behaviors to avoid feeling feminine.  In one study, we threatened the masculinity of male participants by showing them a pink gift card with a floral design and asking them to imagine using the card to purchase three products (lamp, backpack, and batteries).  Compared to men shown a standard gift card, threatened men were more likely to choose the non-green rather than green version of each item.  The idea that emasculated men try to reassert their masculinity through non-environmentally-friendly choices suggests that in addition to littering, wasting water, or using too much electricity, one could harm the environment merely by making men feel feminine.
Ironically, although men are often considered to be less sensitive than women, they seem to be particularly sensitive when it comes to perceptions of their gender identity. In fact, a previous study suggests that men find it to be more difficult than women to choose between masculine and feminine versions of everyday food and household items and will usually change their preferences to be more manly when allowed time to think about their decisions. Something as simple as holding a purse, ordering a colorful drink, or talking in a high voice can lead to social harm, so men tend to keep a sharp eye out for any of these potential snares.
So what can pro-environmental marketers do to buffer against the threat posed to men by the green-feminine stereotype? First, eco-friendly marketing messages and materials can be designed to affirm men’s masculinity and give them the confidence to overcome their fear of being judged as feminine when engaging in green behaviors.  For example, in one experiment, men who received feedback affirming their masculinity were more interested in purchasing an eco-friendly version of a cleaning product. Men who feel secure in their manhood are more comfortable going green.
Second, green products and organizations can be marketed as more “Men”-vironmentally-friendly, with more masculine fonts, colors, words, and images used in the branding. To illustrate, men in one experiment were more likely to donate to a green non-profit with a masculine logo (black and dark blue colors featuring a howling wolf, with the name “Wilderness Rangers” in a bold font) than one with a traditional logo (green and light tan colors featuring a tree, with the name “Friends of Nature” in a frilly font).  And in a field study conducted at a BMW dealership in China, male customers were more interested in a hybrid vehicle after viewing a print ad featuring a masculine term in the model’s description than when viewing the traditional print ad.
Together, these findings highlight how the green-feminine stereotype inhibits men from taking eco-friendly actions, and suggest that masculine affirmation and masculine branding may be effective in narrowing the gender gap in environmentalism. Make the man feel manly, and he’s more likely to go green.
MEN ARE IDIOTS. MEN ARE IDIOTS. MEN ARE IDIOTS.
THE COLOR GREEN IS NOW "TOO FEMININE" FOR MEN APPARENTLY.

Excerpt:
The research, conducted with three other colleagues, consisted of seven experiments involving more than 2,000 American and Chinese participants. We showed that there is a psychological link between eco-friendliness and perceptions of femininity. Due to this “green-feminine stereotype,” both men and women judged eco-friendly products, behaviors, and consumers as more feminine than their non-green counterparts.

Flirting For Dummies - Part 1
Summary: Turns out the crush you have on one of the pilots that frequents the Hard Deck isn’t quite so unrequited. You’re just bad at recognizing when someone’s flirting with you. Good thing Jake’s happy to help you understand how interested he really is.
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x F!Reader
Rating: General. The second part will include explicit sexual content and be 18+ only. This part features Hangman being a cocky little shit, a shy reader (inspired by @thewhiskersonkittens post asking for Jake with a shy reader), a misunderstanding and some kissing.
Word Count: 2.1K
A/N: This is my first of hopefully many Top Gun fics. Please let me know if you enjoy this. Reblogs and comments feed the muse.

The pencil is clutched firmly between your teeth as you highlight another important passage in your book. It’s still early enough that the background sound from the bar is at a steady hum instead of the loud, chaotic energy you know it’ll morph into soon. The golden hours between lunch and the evening rush are the best time to study at the Hard Deck, it’s less stuffy than the library or the studio apartment you rent, plus you get free fries here. That’s hard to beat.
“Almost done?” One of the other bartenders, Becky, asks as she passes by you on her way to the kitchen.
“Almost,” you respond. Technically there are two more chapters you need to read but with only 15 minutes until your shift starts there’s no chance you can make that happen. You don’t really care anyway, you’re tired of studying. What you need is a break, something more than sitting alone on your couch watching true crime documentaries with a pint of ice cream.
With a defeated sigh you close your book and lean back to stretch, letting out a startled little gasp when you realize the seat beside you is no longer empty, but taken up by the handsome pilot who you’ve spent entirely too much time thinking about. He’s become a regular at the bar over the last few months, coming in like clockwork on Thursdays and Fridays. Sometimes he’s alone, just ordering dinner and a drink though mostly he comes in with a group of other people wearing the same service khakis to play pool.
You don't know his actual name, just his call sign - Hangman. He's friendly, tipping generously and has a habit of winking at you when you dropped off his drinks. That made you incredibly nervous even if you did like it. You know it doesn’t mean anything… He’s charming to all the bartenders, even succeeding in making the unflappable Becky blush once.
Penny warned you the pilots were the worst of the bunch but the others didn’t make you nearly as nervous as Hangman did. You liked watching him from afar, aware of how his type operated. They didn’t go for girls like you. You weren’t pretty like Becky or funny like Janet, the other bartender you often worked with.
Having his full attention focused on you throws you for a loop. “What?” You stammer, completely missing whatever he just said.
“I asked what you are reading about?” Hangman repeats, leaning into your space to see the title of your textbook.
He’s so close that you can smell his cologne, a potent mix of sandalwood and a sweet citrusy undercurrent. When your mouth opens to respond all that escapes is a uhhhh sound. He smirks, pressing into your space and laying his arm along the back of the bar stool. You meet his beautiful green eyes for just a second before you clear your throat and look away.
“Coastal Ecology,” you finally manage to force out.
“You’ll have to speak up sweetheart,” Hangman says, tapping on the wooden bar. “It’s loud in here.”
It’s actually not but he still leans in and warmth sweeps up your chest into your throat. You hate the way the stupid pet name makes your stomach swoop. Normally you despise all the honey, baby, or darlins you get from the men at the bar, but there is something in the way he says it that’s different. You want him to call you that and mean it, even though you know he never would.
“I’m studying coastal ecology,” you repeat, turning to look at him fully, buoyed by a brief swell of confidence.
“Smart girl, huh?” He asks, grinning. You sit up straighter at his praise. “Why are you doing it at a bar? Hoping for some attention?”
His words curdle that pleasantly warm feeling in your chest.
“I work here,” you defend, sliding off the bar stool to put distance between the two of you. “I’m in grad school and the owner lets me study before my shift.”
The urge to continue and over-explain is hard to resist. You owe him nothing so cut yourself off and focus on putting your things away, but when you reach for your book he rests his hand on it to stop you from taking it. You stare at the large ring he wears on one finger, not wanting to meet his gaze. After a moment he sighs and draws his hand back. You spot an annoyed, almost confused look on his face, which quickly dissipates replaced by a bland smile.
“Ok then. Guess we’ll take a round of beers. Over at the pool tables,” he says, stepping back.
It’s not your shift for another 10 minutes so you pass on the order to Becky and go hide in the back office until you need to clock in. Despite your best efforts you somehow find yourself looking over to the pool table and meeting the blonde man’s eyes. He doesn’t smirk like you expect. There’s a little furrow between his brows instead.
"He's hot," Becky says, coming to lean against the bar next to you while you slice up a lime. “Probably a jackass but he’d show you a good time.”
"What?" You ask, embarrassed to be caught looking.
"Mr. Tall Blonde and Built," she indicates, pointing to Hangman. "All pilots are cocky, especially that bunch.”
"Bob is sweet," you defend, thinking of the timid but endearing pilot who always stammers his way through talking to Janet and you.
"Bob is an outlier and if he wasn't so into Janet I'd love to take him home and sit on that pretty face. He looks like he’d be so eager. Like one of those golden retriever types.” She sighs wistfully.
"Oh my god, Becky," you chastise, looking over at Bob, half embarrassed on his behalf. He’s staring dreamily at Janet as she cleans off a high top. He really was adorable.
“Just be careful,” Becky says seriously.
“I don’t think I’m on anyone’s radar here,” you tell her with a sad little laugh.
“Thought you were supposed to be smart, kiddo,” she says, bumping your shoulder and grinning. “Ohhh, I spot a cell phone on the bar. Gotta ring that bell,” she tells you, taking off towards a poor unsuspecting businessman.
Friday is even crazier than Thursday, the bar is packed to the gills. Although you won’t admit it, you catch yourself searching through the crowd for a familiar face. For Hangman. There’s a bunch of military types hanging around the pool table but he’s not with them. It’s stupid to feel disappointed, it’s not like he even knows you exist, not really. It’s best your crush becomes nothing more than a way to occupy your mind with what-ifs and silly scenarios. He’s probably off with that beautiful brunette girl you saw hanging off his arm yesterday.
“It’s almost 7,” Penny says, interrupting your thoughts. “Go ahead and clock out before things get too crazy.”
“I don’t mind staying to help,” you offer.
She waves you off. “You closed last night and should have left two hours ago. You’re good. Go.”
“Alright,” you agree, untying your apron, and retrieving your purse from the back room. Trying to leave the bar is like swimming upstream, you’re fighting past throngs of people who are drunk or on their way to be. By the time you break free the cool air coming off the ocean feels wonderful. You close your eyes and take in a clarifying breath, enjoying the peaceful moment. Maybe you’ll sit out on your balcony and read tonight.
“Got off late today, huh?”
You jump, clutching your purse to your chest at the sound of the familiar voice. Speak of the Devil. Hangman pushes off from the wall he’s leaning against, running a hand through his perfectly styled honey blonde hair as he approaches you. The tousled effect makes him look even more handsome. He’s out of his Navy uniform, wearing jeans and a light gray sweater that clings to the curve of his biceps.
“Becky said you got off at 5 pm today.” He taps the watch on his wrist.
Was he talking to you? You glance behind you but no one is there.
“One of the bartenders showed up late and I didn’t want them to be short-staffed.” You respond, trying to process why he’s talking to you. Was he waiting for you? “Penny was worried and I oh…” you trail off when your back connects with the brick wall.
Hangman grins, head cocked to the side while he continues to stalk towards you. You lick your lips nervously and look past him. Was this some kind of joke? There are a handful of people milling about, sharing a smoke or escaping the crowd, but they’re all caught up in their conversations. No one is looking at either of you.
“Gotta tell you, honey, it’s a real blow to the ego when a girl doesn’t flirt back with a guy like me.”
“What?” You ask sharply, looking back at him confused. “You were flirting with me? When?”
“Ouch,” he says, clutching his chest in mock pain. “You know how to wound a man, sweetheart. I was trying to be charming but I see I’m gonna need the direct approach here. I want to take you out. Tomorrow night. 7 pm.” He pauses, waiting for you to respond but you just stare dumbly at him, mind blank and body buzzing with nerves. “This is the part where you say yes,” he prods, stepping even closer.
You stare into his green eyes. “I don’t even know your real name,” you finally blurt out.
He chuckles. “It’s Jake.”
He’s in your space now, palm resting beside your head. Close enough to kiss, your mind supplies. The thought makes goosebumps break out over your skin and you let out a shuddery breath.
“No hard feelings if I’m not wanted but I have it on good authority I am,” he whispers. “I need you to say it so there’s no misunderstandings.”
“Yes.” You offer him a soft smile, feeling shy and giddy.
“Yes what?” He prods.
“Yes, I want to go out on a date with you.”
“That’s good,” he hums, inching forward until his lips are a hair's breadth away from yours. Your chest rises and falls rapidly, waiting. He smiles. “I can’t do all the work here, sweetheart. Help me out.”
Emboldened by his words and the way he looks at you, you find the courage to tilt your head up and meet his lips. He takes control of the kiss immediately, one hand sliding along the curve of your hip. The other cups the side of your face. You moan, curling your fingers into the soft fabric of his sweater. For a moment you forget where you are, letting Jake’s weight pin you to the wall as his kiss intensifies.
He parts your mouth with his, the sensation of his tongue against yours making you quake and him groan. A sharp whistle snaps you back into reality and you draw away, shaking and overwhelmed. Jake’s a little breathless too but he recovers pretty soon, looking over his shoulder at two younger men. Both are in uniform and they pale under the dark look he sends them, scurrying back inside. You shrink down, hands coming to cover your face. Your skin tingles, warming with embarrassment and the aftermath of the kiss.
“None of that,” Jake says, pulling your hands down. He runs his tongue along his bottom lip, making a pleased sound. “No hiding that beautiful face from me. You’re cute when flustered.”
You look away, his attention is too much.
“It’s ok.” He rises to his full height, shielding you from anyone looking. The hand at your waist disappears, but he rubs the apple of your cheek gently with his thumb until you find the courage to look back at him. “That was nice wasn’t it?”
“Yes,” you agree.
“Come on, let me walk you to your car.”
You follow his lead into the parking lot. When you stop at your beat up old Honda he grasps your wrist and pulls you back to face him. He brushes another kiss over your lips. Your whole body tingles in response.
"Tomorrow night. 7," he reminds you, tapping your nose lightly before stepping back.
He’s a few feet away when you realize he hasn’t said where you’re supposed to be. “Wait!” You call out.
“Miss me already?” He questions, amused.
“No, that’s not what I meant,” you stammer, embarrassed. “Where are we meeting?”
“I know, you’re fun to tease. Check your phone,” he suggests, waiting as you rummage through your purse. There’s a single text for an unsaved number with the location for an upscale gastropub.
“How…”
“Janet sold you out. I got your number and she got Bob’s. Seemed like a fair deal,” he says with a wink. “See you real soon, sweetheart.”

What A Cheat - JJ Maybank x reader
Summary: you catch JJ cheating at a card game
A short one-shot I had written a while ago, and totally revamped and revisited and rewrote (even though it's still short) I hope you guys like it :)
Word Count: 1.8k
Pairings: JJ Maybank x pogue!reader
Tumblr media
Looking between your own cards and the boy across from you, you were astonished. It was an easy game you were playing and yet you couldn’t believe how many times you had lost. If you had to count the losses on your hands you’d fail to have enough fingers. You’d gone through most simple card games already that day; most you remember simply through childhood memories, and some you even learned in The Chateau backyard. And yet it seemed like your opponent had won almost every round, except for when he made it obvious he had garnered you the win. There was no universal karma coming to strike you down, was there? It seemed improbable, and your academic friend, Pope, would surely agree once you told him of the injustice. Yes, you decided, checking your cards again, there was no way someone could win that many times in such a short day. Your cards were fine. Not bad at all.
“You are so cheating." You rebuked with a pout (sure enough that even the look would cause the boy to confess), and looked across from yourself at your boyfriend. When your gaze fell upon him, you had just begun to spot him (trying ever so slightly to be stealthy) stuffing cards up the sleeves of his sweatshirt. On better days he would've handled hiding it a lot more masterfully, but it slowly dawned on you that he wanted to get caught. It was no secret he liked you worked up, just enough that he could toy with teasing you. He often liked the way your eyebrows knit together and the way you chided him in his misadventures (which happened every day). He also liked the way you laughed, if not right away then eventually, at his antics. If he were playing with any of the other pogues, he either would’ve hidden his cheating more thoughtfully or wouldn’t risk it at all. Though, they rarely played with him, knowing his habits.
“Am not.” The boy smiled at you charmingly, knowing exactly how that same smile made your heart melt as easily as a popsicle on an Outer Banks summer day. His hoodie was endearingly frayed at each of the openings, which just gave you enough view of the most recent card he stuck up his left arm. You smirked as you eyed it, onto his game. You had made him stay inside on such a nice day after all, what a shame to miss the sun. Miss fishing with John B and Pope. Miss picking up trash on the beach with Kiara (which was really her idea of fun). And miss seeing you in a bathing suit, happily tanning on the HMS Pogue. Cheating seemed to be a lot more fun than playing the old fashioned way.
"JJ Maybank," You chided. "You know where cheating gets you."
JJ raised his eyebrows happily and furthered his smirk, throwing a loose card at you friskily. "Now where is that, Princess?"
“Don't call me that. Nicknames will not weasel your way out of this one, Maybank." You then continued, giving him your own mischievous side-eye,  "It gets you someplace without kisses." He opened his mouth to speak but you stopped him with a held out hand. "That's right. I've revoked your cuddle privileges too. Now don't get all mopey. This is harder on me then it is on you-"
JJ squinted at you then started to get up off the floor of the Chateau where you were both sitting. You had made quite a nice set up for your little makeshift date. A clean eco-friendly blanket (that you had borrowed from Kie) was sprawled on the floor and you had even brought snacks, a couple of juice-boxes and even ‘JJ juice-boxes’ which was just beer. The other pogues had decided to go surfing but you wanted to stay inside and enjoy some alone-time with your boyfriend (without the other pogues constantly on top of the both of you). Sure, you enjoyed surfing (JJ had probably even taught you most of the tricks you knew) but it was also nice to have The Chateau quiet. Hear the creak of the floor boards under your footsteps as you walked instead of music continuously playing. Or the snoring of sleeping pogues. Or everyone repeatedly coming and going. You hadn’t gotten a lot of time with just JJ recently, and thought if all the pogues were busy it would be the perfect time to do just that. You didn’t want much. A few board or card games. A movie. A nice chill day with your boyfriend. Fortunately, JJ can’t resist begging, especially from you, so he gave in easily and said farewell to the other pogues this morning.
It wasn’t unusual for any of the pogues to sleep over at The Chateau, but you and JJ had become consistent regulars on the pull-out couch. So The Chateau already felt like a second home. It breathed familiarity. It was the perfect place you wanted to relax. Kie always covered for you with your parents, and you did the same for her, but JJ’s dad never really seemed to care where he was most nights as long as he saw him eventually. You knew it was a safe place for JJ too, The Chateau that is. You’d both cuddle up on the pull-out couch and you could tell even though you were in his arms, he felt safer. It was an escape from the home you know JJ didn’t deserve. You would never deny that it was nice at John B's. You both got to spend time with each and your other best friends without much hassle from parental supervision. In just that moment, you wanted nothing more than to grow up and get a house just like this. With JJ.
JJ crossed over into the kitchen, where you couldn't see him from the floor, but you did hear him close the fridge. It was quiet for a moment and then you heard a devious chuckle from the other room and automatically you rolled your eyes with a sense of familiarity. Trouble, usually more than not, followed that boy’s laugh. Then after a beat, you heard the boy say in a cocky voice, "I counter. I could revoke sex." You could practically hear the smirk in his tone.
You snorted, grabbing the cards left on the floor into a pile, seeing as your current game had been thwarted by JJ’s cheating. "Go ahead." You said in the direction of the kitchen. "Let's see how long you last." It didn’t matter if he could last months, you knew he was lying. And you too, as JJ liked to sometimes torment you, liked to watch your boyfriend squirm. Once you had all the cards, minus the ones warm in JJ’s hoodie, you leaned back onto the floor with nothing but a towel for a head-rest.
"Y/N!" He poked his head back into the room where you were sitting, feigning a half offended and half shocked playful expression. "And here I thought I was pulling out the big guns." Again, you rolled your eyes except this time you made sure it was quite obvious. A show, per se, to show your boyfriend that while he may be slightly idiotic at times you were still playing along.
"I'm sure John B would appreciate the sudden celibacy. He does need to sleep too." You stated as a smile tugged at your lips. JJ now stood leaning against the frame of the entryway to the living room where you two were camped out. His hair had been recently tussled (maybe from getting up - his hair did have a life of its own - or from running his fingers quickly through it without thinking) and you kept a sweet smile that was forming from showing on your lips. You needed to be sly, witty. Not mushy at one sight of your boyfriend’s messy hair. “And don’t say he can just sleep outside.”
JJ sighed, moving towards you and sliding back down to the floor now with a water bottle in hand. "I'm sure John B would appreciate a lot of things.” He nudged your knee with his own and looked down at your head on the floor. “However,” He continued. “That doesn't mean they're going to happen." He took a sip of the water then offered it to you.
“So kind.” You mused at the boy, returning his nudge with your own. You sat up and leaned yourself up against the couch you had called a bed for many nights and chugged the rest. You finished impolitely, as a little kid does after drinking, with a large “Ah” escaping your lips.
"Really? I just got that, Y/N." JJ pouted, giving you his best version of puppy-dog eyes. He grabbed the water bottle and turned it, as it was still open, upside down to show that its contents were truly empty.
“Kie wouldn’t have liked the idea of us using plastic water bottles anyway.” Then, “Anyways, It's what cheaters deserve.”
JJ leaned across the floor, his face close to yours, "You love me." You could feel his warm breath on your face.
You leaned closer to him, your lips almost touching. "Do I?" You kidded, leaning in close enough to kiss him. You could feel his warmth radiating off of his skin and hoped he couldn’t hear your heart beating in your cheeks; or notice your hand that snaked into his cozy sweatshirt as you coiled your fingers around a thick stack of playing cards that had made their home there. But the game goes on, and just as he was leaning in and your lips were going to touch you pulled back quickly, ushering a quick and curt, "Except cheaters don’t get kisses." In the same motion, you pulled your hand free of his sweatshirt revealing and scattering the cards that he had piled into his clothing. “And look at that, I have evidence of a cheater right here.”
JJ scrunched his eyebrows together and put his lips into a line, clearly disappointed, "I thought you were joking." Understandably, caught red-handed, he wasn’t going to protest his innocence.
"How am I supposed to rid you of your bad habits without a little punishment?" You laughed, a soft melody that made him want to kiss you even more. "Rematch, Maybank?"
"If I win," He said as you eyed him. "With no cheating.” He looked pointedly at you, playing your game. “Then I get a kiss. Deal?"
"Deal."
"You're on L/N."
Grabbing his face towards your own, you planted a firm kiss to his cheek then scooted away back to your spot and started shuffling the cards as well as picking up the ones he had stashed away into his hoodie.
JJ looked at you questioningly, but there was a hint of a soft blush touching his cheeks behind his tan. You tried your best to brush off the blush hidden in your own cheeks but it was no use, JJ could already see right through you.
“It’s for good luck, it doesn’t count.” You reasoned, already planning to lose. You didn’t bother to ask what you would get if you won. You already had it.
