“Etali, stand with me!”

Lightning shot from Huatli’s sword, leaving the warrior-poet untouched but coursing through the Dusk Legion soldiers around her. Huatli ran past them as they fell to the ground writhing.

“T-That dinosaur,” groaned one of the incapacitated soldiers. “You destroyed it…or, invoked that three-headed one to- Regardless! How are you still harnessing its power?”

Huatli paused just before rounding the corner. There she turned, spinning her lightning-wreathed blade as she threw the man a cocky grin.

“Inspiration, bright and flashing as Etali’s storms!”

“It’s alive…IT’S ALIVE!”

“Er…Saheeli?”

The artificer’s eyes widened, and she theatrically cleared her throat. “Ah. Ahem. Sorry, Huatli. I got a little overzealous, there.”

“Not that. Etali!”

“Hm?”

The Phyrexian dinosaur’s engine was now emitting a low rumbling growl. Lightning shot from his exposed insides at steadily increasing frequency. Huatli stepped forward, instinctively raising her blade to protect Saheeli.

“Do you remember how I promised Etali wouldn’t attack? I might have been wrong. Perhaps Etali’s fervor cannot be bound.”

Saheeli checked a nearby diagnostic terminal. Upon studying the readings, she waved at Huatli to stand down.

“It’s not angry! It’s just building up too much energy!”

“What?”

“We need to catch the lightning!”

Huatli’s gaze snapped to her sword. She lifted it high, just in time to catch a massive bolt. The blade absorbed the energy and glowed red. This final blast served to finally calm the Phyrexian. It sat peacefully now, rumbling much more quietly.

“Well,” Saheeli muttered dejectedly, “we rebuilt his frame, and got him up and running again. But it looks like we’ll have to regularly discharge the lightning. Sorry.”

Huatli arched an eyebrow at her partner’s crestfallen tone, as she admired her now-lightning-wreathed sword. “Sorry? I get a storm sword, and Etali gets to live. That sounds ideal! Right, Etali?”

The compleated dinosaur gave an affirmative rev of its engine.

[I was wondering how someone was able to curry Etali’s favor if he was destroyed during MOM.]

“…Far away I would soar, but always a golden gale pushes me back.”

“That’s the Immortal Sun.”

Huatli frowned at Angrath’s plain explanation. Ironically, the minotaur had so far been the only friendly face she had encountered during her trek through the jungle.

“Well, I think that’s a wonderful name! Fitting, too. Though I soar high during my reveries, none may fly as high as the-”

“It’s a bad name.”

Huatli gritted her teeth as Angrath again spoke with no flourish. “It’s evocative, calling to mind something powerful, yet leaving much to the imagination.”

“Which means, it doesn’t mean anything-”

“Hey!”

Huatli stomped ahead of Angrath. She turned back to block the minotaur, immediately earning his ire as she spread her arms in challenge.

“I understand you worry for your daughters. But responding to the world around you with nothing but anger will get you no closer to your goal.”

“…Huh?” Angrath’s general air of irritation briefly changed to one of puzzlement. “Oh, no, that’s not what I’m not mad about, not on this one, anyway.”

Huatli blinked in surprise. “Oh. Then, if not them, what is fouling your mood?”

Angrath exhaled through his snout, pondering his answer. “That…feeling of flying you were talking about? It’s, uh, supposed to be a lot…better? Better than that.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, I guess…Without that ‘golden gale,’ you could fly…faster and higher than ever before. If now, you’re flying through the air, you could…I don’t know…Ah, fly among the stars! And, go as fast as a shooting one…star, I mean…What?”

Angrath finally noticed Huatli’s intense stare. The warrior-poet broke eye contact with a shake of her head and an apology.

“Sorry, it’s just, we might make a poet of you yet, Angrath.”

The minotaur pirate grunted, and folded his massive arms. “I doubt it. But yeah, that ‘golden gale’ is bad. It’s holding you back, not freeing you. And gold without freedom might as well be lead…Stop that!”

“Sorry, sorry,” Huatli laughed, as she broke another stare.
