#I get being tired of shipping. but I don't think I've made any claims about romance in vnc that aren't supported by the text
neversetyoufree · 1 year
Note
Shipping is fun and all but why do the whole fandom makes it like VNC was about rotting for Vanitas to be with either Jeanne or Noe and sexuality ? It's not what the story is about, it's about Noe and Vanitas's story together and how Noé will end up killing Vanitas. Is it because it's also treating of their relationship that the fandom focuses so much on romance which is a very sub themed (after all in shounen romance is always a subplot, more or less underdevelopped)
I mean, when it comes to Vnc, I'm not so sure that the romance is underdeveloped, anon. I 100% get not caring about romantic shipping, and that's fair, but sex and romance are big parts of this story. I don't think it's unreasonable to be invested in them when they're very present in the manga itself.
You're right that shonen series in general tend to be very light on romance. However, a majority of shonen also don't have their characters very regularly engaging in a metaphor for sex.
It's pretty undeniable that the blood drinking in VnC is meant as a sexual metaphor. Sometimes this is played for horror (like Astolpho's backstory), and sometimes this is played for horny (like the VaniJeanne scenes), but it's almost always there. It doesn't mean that every instance of blood drinking is meant to symbolize literal sex, but both in-universe and in terms of symbolism, drinking someone's blood in VnC is an erotic act. And there's a lot of blood drinking.
With that said, given that these characters are constantly running around drinking and/or craving each other's blood, of course people are going to talk about romance a lot. "Which character wants which other character's blood?" is a huge driving factor for the character dynamics in this story. And there's a lot of straight-up discussion of romance as well!
You cannot talk about or analyze Noé and Dominique's relationship without talking about her massive crush on him. You cannot analyze Vanitas and Jeanne's relationship without talking about their mutual attraction and all the blood drinking scenes. You cannot fully analyze Noé and Vanitas's relationship without talking about how much Noé wants Vanitas's blood.
It may not be the norm for shonen, but Vnc is, objectively speaking, a series that puts a fair amount of emphasis on romance. It's not the main plot, but neither is it a clumsily handled background element like in Naruto or something. This is a series driven by the relationships between its characters first and foremost, and several of those relationships are canonically romantic and/or horny.
(Also, as a bonus fun fact, there's an interview with Mochizuki where she directly talks about how she wanted Vnc to focus more on both action and romance than her previous works).
And as for the Vanoé angle specifically, you're right. Vnc is the story of Noé and Vanitas's relationship. It's the story of how they meet, what they do together, and how/why Noé will eventually kill Vanitas with his own hands. And the thing about that relationship is that it is frankly fucking FULL of queer subtext. Like half the writing on this blog, for example, is about Noé and Vanitas's relationship, and not all of it is gay. Sometimes I talk about the death and tragedy angle, sometimes I speculate about the concrete plot details of what's to come, and sometimes I talk about how absurdly queer-coded Noé's whole "your blood smells amazing" routine is. It's not the only thing going on between them, not by a long shot, but it's there! And I think it's quite reasonable to discuss it.
So like, everyone engages in fandom differently, anon. It's fine to not give a damn about the romantic angle. I personally am almost incapable of caring about ships that aren't heavily implied in their canon sources, which makes me a bit of the odd one out in some fandom spaces.
However, speaking for myself again, this is a meta blog. More often than not, when I talk about romance on here, it's through the angle of examining what's there in canon. I find the relationships between the characters to be the most compelling part of Vnc, so that's what I write about. Sometimes that means writing about how Noé's constantly trying and failing to save his loved ones generally, sometimes that means writing about the history between Vanitas and Misha, and sometimes that means writing about how fucking in love with Vanitas I think Noé is.
I can't speak for others, but I personally don't think I'm reading anything into this series that isn't there. It's fine if it's not an angle you care about personally! I fully support you in blacklisting ship tags if the discussion of romance gets on your nerves. I cannot fucking stand "ship wars," so like. I get it. But "shonen usually doesn't care about romance" does not mean "all the people talking about romance in Vnc are doing it for no good reason."

please do bsf rafe flirting with reader while he’s drunk and she’s trying to put him to bed but he just cuddles her and tells her how much he has feelings for her
this with kook trio readerrr omg <3 in my head, rafe's version of admitting feelings is being aggressively posessive. when they finally start dating shes like why didnt you say something sooner? and hes like wym ive been claiming you since the start
Tumblr media
you were so used to rafe taking care of you—bringing you home to tannyhill with him, making sure you took a tylenol before you fell asleep on his bed, a clean frat shirt of his waiting for you in the bathroom.
he was such a good friend to you. when times like this came along, you tried your best to repay the favor.
you think rafe's got it easier, though. he alway manhandles you into position, can carry you up the stairs when you're stumbling and force the pill and water down your throat when you're resisting. you're usually too drunk to remember rafe's hand on your jaw, opening your mouth for you and trying to coax you into taking it, telling you repeatedly you'll be grateful he did it in the morning.
"you are such a dick," you mutter, staring at the bottle of tylenol in your hand and the empty cup of water on the nightstand. he's just spilled the water all over his floor in a drunken stupor, and you suddenly hate that he ever made you feel bad about how much he has to take care of you when you're the drunk one.
rafe is ten times worse than you could ever be.
"thinkin 'bout my dick, are'ya?" he slurs back at you, and then laughs at his own joke. he's laying flat on his bed now, still in the same clothes he wore to the party, shoes and watch still on. getting him into the house and up the stairs was hard enough, even with top and kelce's help, but they'd jumped ship the second you got rafe into bed.
"all yours now, princess," kelce said, grabbing the keys to his car.
"yeah, good luck. i've never seen him so drunk," top adds.
"you're both just leaving me with him?" you cry out, but the hallway is empty when you finally get your wrist out of rafe's grip. rafe had mumbled something from his position, but you hadn't heard it.
twenty minutes later, you still hadn't gotten rafe to drink any water or change his clothes. all his energy seemed to be focused on getting you to curl up next to him.
"c'mon! just get into bed, m'fuckin tired-" he grumbles again, latching onto your arm while you try to at least get his shoes off.
"you can't sleep with your sneakers on, rafe-"
"who cares? i like my sneakers-"
"that's great, but your sheets-"
"but not as much as i like you. hah. that's fuckin' cheesy." you turn to look at your drunken best friend, his flushed cheeks and the way his eyes are closed while talking to you. you laugh, unable to hold it back.
"thanks, rafe. i like you too. enough to get your shoes off because you will so regret this tomorrow morning."
"don't regret anything." his eyes open, staring at you while you stare at his shoes. "shit. you're pretty."
you don't even address his comment—he's drunk beyond belief and you know you're pretty. after you untie his laces for him, he kicks off his shoes. you sigh a breath of relief.
"okay, rafe, do you want to sleep in these clothes or should i find pajamas?"
"how 'bout we sleep naked? there's an idea."
"stop being a perv. otherwise i'm gonna go cuddle with kelce instead." you laugh to yourself—the whole thing is a joke. you and rafe don't cuddle, at least not on purpose. you go to bed facing him but somehow always wake up with your limbs tangled and your hair in his face.
"sure. if you want me to kill kelce."
"oh my god, dramatic much?" you turn back to rafe to see if he's laughing, but he's not, looking right at you and sitting up.
"m'not kidding. don't joke about that. you're fuckin' mine, don't forget it."
he lays back down. you pause, eyebrows knitting while you think about the sentence rafe just said. he's drunk, so he must be joking. right?
"c'mon wanna sleep. get into bed." he grumbles again, and you comply, still a little shellshocked. you turn off the lamp and get into bed, and you don't even feel surprised when rafe pulls you in. you rest your head against his chest, and you don't stop thinking about what he said until you fall asleep.

All the outrage about "chai" as Pav's ship abbreviation was fucking stupid
Ok so. I may be late to this discourse but by gods am I going to put this out there anyway bc this shit has been FRUSTRATING me for a while okay.
USING 'CHAI' AS AN ABBREVIATION FOR PAVITR IN SHIP NAMES IS NOT FUCKING PROBLEMATIC OR STEROTYPING OR WHATEVER DUMB SHIT I'VE SEEN (mostly non-Indian)PEOPLE SCREAMING ABOUT OUT HERE ON MY DASH. GO TOUCH SOME GRASS, Y'ALL, FIND BETTER PROBLEMS IF YOU'RE SO PRESSED TO BE MAD ABT SOMETHING!!
I'm Indian and I am so so sick and tired of, from what I can tell, mostly white people getting mad about Pav's ship abbreviation being chai??
No no. Go on. Find me my fellow Indians spearheading the conversation about 'chai' being a problematic name. Show me where the droves of offended desis are. And I don't mean just a few Indians agreeing with the "chai is stereotypical" thing while non-Indians lead the conversation, I mean the Indians being the majority of the conversation. Since, you know, that's how it would and should be if it's actually such an offensive deal to Indians, right? We all have social media. It's not like we're waiting to be spoken for. Surely there should be at least as many, if not more, offended Indians about the chai thing as I've seen white people on here. I'll wait.
Obviously I don't speak for all Indian people, I'm just one person, but from what I've seen and what I can tell, there don't seem to be any actual Indian people getting offended or claiming his name being 'chai' is Bad and Evil and Offensive and Stereotyping?? All I see are non-Indian people getting so damn offended on our behalf???
I loved his ship name being chai. I loved the representation. I loved the desi tadka, I remember when I exited the theater after ATSV and scoured through my social media and saw "chaipunk" and "chaiflower" and everything with chai going around. I was so fucking elated to see an ethnic word being used in the tagosphere!! It made my Indian heart so happy to see an Indian character who is so so close to my heart be represented with an Indian cultural word.
But nooooooo apparently we can't have nice things, because people just had to white knight about it. Apparently it is harmful and stereotypical to be using chai as his ship name.
Clearly, we gotta change it to golden. Or something similarly English and white-sounding and you know, inoffensive.
So, because I want to nitpick all the arguments I've heard as to why using "chai" is bad, let's go point-by-point:
It's reductive, you're describing a character by just one thing - yes well noted, that's literally what ship names are for. They are shorthand for characters to remember them by, they're supposed to be memorable one-liners to go by for them. It doesn't "reduce their whole personality to one bit" or "define them" or whatever - by that logic, is Miles' entire personality "flower", or Hobie's entire personality "punk"?? Gwen's just a "ghost" then, huh?? The whole POINT of a ship abbreviation is to be short and memorable. And chai is a whole fucking lot more memorable than "golden" or "shine" or whatever - those alternatives aren't even based in canon?? They are just purely fanon interpretations. Meanwhile chai is actually based in canon and a really memorable line from it too. I've had friends who were so confused as to who the golden abbreviation is for and then asking me how it's related to Pav when they browsed through the tags, but whenever they heard "chaipunk" and stuff they got it without me having to explain shit. Also, y'all are reading the Indian reaction to the chai-tea thing very wrong if you think we are offended by chai being a memorable bit about him - we are literally the ones most hyped about the chai-tea thing? You have no idea how loud the Indian theaters cheered at that line and how many Indian-made edits have been circulating. Again, with the caveat that I speak for my experienced social circle and not every Indian to ever exist, WE LOVE THE CHAI THING. It is a really lovable and memorable bit to us - one that has endeared his character to so many of us so quickly! So I have no idea where the idea that we're offended by the chai-tea line being memorable came from, but y'all really need to go out and talk to some desis before speaking and getting mad for us.
It's stereotypical - Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't realize an Indian character named with an Indian ethnic word about an Indian cultural drink is stereotyping, now. Just say you felt called out by the chai tea bit or got tired of how much people were talking about it or didn't like having to learn and use an ethnic word and be done with it. Now, to be completely fair, this is the point in the argument that holds the most water. I have seen a lot of fanart and fanfic in the very early days of ATSV fan content, quite far down the tag at this point, that reduced Pav's entire personality to chai, just made him the tea guy, made him so chai obsessed it was quite OOC and annoying and yes it did feel pretty stereotypical. That kind of thing is extra obvious in some NSFW arts I've seen around, that really give me the ick because that is not necessary, that is actually just weird and smells a little like fetishizing. But long story short, yes, Pav's character did tend to be reduced to chai in the early fan content. But guess what. That kind of thing happens to every side character in beloved media until more creators get their hands on them, adopt them as their blorbos, and make more developed characters and content out of them!!! Every side character that has a memorable bit gets overused in that bit until more creators get on board to flesh them out! Or have we forgotten "AND PEGGY!", "Honor", "ONIONS!!" and other miscreants? Surely those are ALSO stereotyping then, right? Also. Even if Pav's early fan content with chai was veering towards overuse and maybe stereotyping. Let's assume that's right. HOW EXACTLY WOULD THE SHIP NAME CHANGE THAT, THEN? The ship name changing wouldn't have done diddly squat about that - he was already getting more developed character in fics and in art before people pushed for his ship name to be changed to something less ethnic sounding. I should know, I was one of the people writing him even then. The tag changing wasn't going to magically change the content. The fan creators did that.
It's unrelated to him, it's stereotypical specifically in that flavour - bitch what. Did we watch the same movie. This point in particular frustrates me so much, because I remember someone on here - I don't remember who - talking about how it makes sense to use "flower" for Miles because his favourite song is Sunflower but in that same sentence saying it's ridiculous to use "chai" for Pav. What logical hoops are you jumping to get to this conclusion, my sibling of the sea? If we can use "flower" for Miles - which was literally a song he sang once, maybe twice, in the first movie, never even saying it was his favourite but just showing us he liked it - then it makes just as much sense to use "chai" for Pavitr? Pav literally says he drinks chai every day with Maya Aunty, it's linked to his life and family, and he clearly liked and thought of it as important enough to put it in his intro speech. Also, as an Indian, in my experience at least chai is a very important and yet casual cultural thing for us, that a lot of us have a connection to in our everyday lives and it makes sense for him to have it too. It's not like people are just seeing the Indian character and automatically labelling him with chai - he talks about it, he likes chai, it's not out of nowhere. Also, if we're talking about how related the abbreviation is, HOW is "golden" related??? That is even more out of nowhere??? Everyone I've asked seems to have a different justification of why golden is used. From bc he's a golden boy to golden bc of his bangles or vibes - they're all speculative and based almost entirely in fanon. Like. Chai is so much more related.
Also. Using chai? IT'S NOT A BIG FUCKING DEAL. It's just a word. It is normal to me, to us Indians, as normal as using any other word in English, or Hindi, or our regional languages. I don't see why it's such a big deal that it needs to be changed to something English. It's literally just like if you made his abbreviation "tea" - except now you've taken the desiness out of it. Congratulations.
This isn't a cause I'm going to die mad about or anything. It's just been slowly annoying and eating away at me to see so many, again from what I can tell mostly non-Indian people, being mad about chai being his ship abbreviation. It feels like a bit of a gut punch to the part of me that was so happy to see this tiny part of myself and my language and culture represented in a character I love. As my friend once said, "chaipunk sounds like a cool punk movement I'd join. goldenpunk just sounds white."
The straw that finally broke the camel's back and got me posting about it is this realization that I had:
All the hue and cry to change Pavitr's ship name from "chai" to the more 'acceptable' "golden"? It reeks an awful lot of whitewashing.
People literally got so offended about an Indian character having an Indian ship abbrev that they clamoured till it got changed to something English. It leaves a very off taste in my mouth when I think about it like this.
So yeah.

Hey! Big fan of your art!
I have a question:
You’re a big shipper of frans which gets a lot of hate online from people who claim it to be “problematic” or “pedophilia” and I’m curious: How do you deal with these people?
A lot of the time these people have the intelligence of a paint can, and the personality of a rusty pipe. They come in many forms: sometimes they just follow mob mentality, sometimes they think they’re the “good guys” and are fighting against “problematic” stuff, sometimes they’re just uninformed and too stubborn to listen, and sometimes they just hate to hate. These things all mean that they can’t really be reasoned with.
So I’m curious as to how you deal with them and what the best strategy is (I’m planning on getting into ut writing, so I wanna be prepared).
(Thank you!)
Hello, thank you!
Your observations are very on point - a lot of people who send frans hate (honestly, its not even just frans issue - it can apply to any not-canon ship) are quite narrow minded, stubborn, like to play a morally superior 'hero' and do not like to listen to any reasoning
I deal with it by simply not being that person. I keep open mind and respect even ships that I dislike with all my soul, because at the end of the day this is fiction, hobby, for fun. And that's what I tell people who try and sling hate at me - you really have a problem with a person's choice of fictional character romance? Even if its problematic (when it comes to frans, as long as Frisk is an adult I do not even consider it problematic), exploring a problematic ship does not make a person awful, as long as they are and the audience is aware that it's supposed to be problematic. Like, yunno, people who write murder stories are not killers
When engaging with the hate comments (which I usually do when I receive any - when I was still in the toxic pit that is Instagram when I wasn't in the best mental space I'd just delete hateful comments, only for those people to come back and point fingers at me for it, which means they were monitoring a post they actively dislike... honestly, those kinds of people just have too much time in their life) I usually try to respectively describe my point of view, and sometimes even engage in conversation when I try to talk with them through their points in an effort to show them that there doesn't need to be hate like this, and how usually it's hypocritical in comparison to other ships, maybe world in general, or just that it's kind of a waste of time to talk about this because this is for entertainment purposes of a person you do not know but choose to hurt and can hurt
I do not owe this to those people - I probably don't even owe them politeness I try to extend, but I choose to act this way because usually those people are young, and if my words have even a slight chance to change how they choose to act and view things, it's worth it in my eyes to try. Though, I do this if I'm in a good mental space, which I usually am, but I get wore down also. If I'm too tired, I just ignore it, or leave a shorter comment
Honestly I've been very fortunate not to receive a lot of hate over the years - I was too unpopular/not worth it at first and later too big and intimidating to attack later lol I'd never want for people to attack someone on my behalf, even if they attacked me, but having friends you can vent to if something did get to you is very nice.
Most of the time people don't really change their point of view, but sometimes they do. I got a couple call out posts on twitter last months, and commenting on them and talking to people who made them made them delete them, because they were made by teens who got scared that the person they ragged on saw this, asked them why they were gossiping, and explaining how their 'heroic unmasking' posts could lead to a person receiving threats and having their mental state crumbling (I was in good enough mental space so I didn't think of it much, but I worry for those who may receive same type of treatment and handle it worse). Those teens said they won't make posts like this again, which doesn't mean they changed as people or changed their perspective, but hopefully means in the future there will be less people hated, and less people will embarrass themselves by targeting people in hopes of being a 'hero who brought awareness to this person being bad' when the person didn't do anything to deserve this
In conclusion... Do not listen to hateful comments - there's no shame in deleting them or blocking the people outright. I always leave blocking as last resort, but it's a personal choice. Sometimes for your mental health and mood it's really better just to yeet that out of your sight tho, complain to your friends and move on to have a nice day
Good luck with writing! If you start getting any ship hate you're always welcome to dm/tag me, and I'll try to help you ✨From personal experience, Tumblr doesn't have much haters though - even if you catch their attention, you can always turn off anon asks

Archetypes are fine and originality isn't as important as you think
I think one of the most shocking things I learned in my writing class when we brought in a professional agent to lecture was that they really, really don't want your original story idea.
Agents and publishers want to know where to put your book on the shelf. They want to know which recent books it resembles, not super-hits like Game of Thrones. When they ask "What two books is this book like?" they want recent, practical examples of which non-Bestselling authors' work your work most resembles. Nothing turns them off faster than "This is totally original" / "This is like nothing you've ever seen."
Similarly, most audiences don't want totally original. I don't mean that pejoratively. We joke in the fanfic world that everyone just wants to read their favorite ship falling in love over and over but... that is actually true. That is an engaged audience. That said, fatigue does set in when all the fics or books begin to sound exactly the same, so what's the deal there, huh?
The deal is: agents, publishers, and audiences want the familiar thing they know they love with your unique spin on it that only you as a writer can create.
Now, my theory on how to achieve this, as a pre-pro who thinks about this a lot but doesn't claim to have a solution, is that this is what, "Write what you know," really refers to. Not that garbage your high school English teacher told you that you shouldn't set a story in a fantasy world because you've never lived there.
No, what "write what you know" means in fanfic is: take these characters and filter them through your personal experience and/or your interests. Which are also things you know. That can mean "I put them in a Coffeeshop AU because I've actually worked in a coffee shop and I want to show y'all what it's really like there" to "I'm personally interested in explorations of grief so I want to do hurt/comfort for these two around grief," or any other number of variations. It's why a weird concept written passionately is 10x more interesting than trying to chase what's "popular" in fandom, people want to see the uniqueness brought by the simple fact that you are writing it. You can give 10 authors the same prompt and they'll end up with 10 wildly different fics, I guarantee you, that's why no one gets tired of the same tropes being played over and over.
Now, for original fiction, at which I have less practice but which I think about a lot because I want to change that, I think again people get too hung up on being totally original and in this case I want to talk about a tendency to design an "original character" by focusing all the little details of their character before they start writing. The thing is, a lot of those little details don't matter. (It's better to start with an archetype and layer on those details, but we'll get to that.) There's danger in that, in part because your character needs to have an arc where they change between the beginning and the end, more than we need to know details like their favorite foods. Their favorite food should be whatever is most thematically relevant in the moment.
IE, when writing a story about losing a parent, whatever the parent made for them is their favorite food. When writing about someone who needs to reconnect with their inner child, greasy Pizza Hut pizza might be their favorite food because it's about something that gives the character pleasure that doesn't play to adult expectations on them. See? Knowing they like Pop Tarts jus because they like Pop Tarts is utterly meaningless, unless for example, you the author loves Pop Tarts and you know you can write a stirring monologue about how amazing Pop Tarts are that will make the audience feel your characters adoration of Pop Tarts. But you can substitute literally any food and write the same monologue, it has to either have emotional resonance or plot relevance, otherwise it doesn't matter what the food is.
But going back to characters, I think just starting with an archetype, adding a few details from your own life that you know you can write authentically, and then kicking this character through the mousetrap maze of your plot, really goes a lot further in making them unique than any amount of pre-planning of details that get you bogged down. And most popular characters reduce down to Archetype + Story-Relevant Details pretty damn quickly when you look at them.
Here's an example:
Last of Us = is a Lone Wolf and Cub archetype, ie, grizzled man takes a dependent child on a dangerous journey. That it's a post-apocalyptic landscape riddled by zombies tweaks the necessities of what skills the characters like Joel and Ellie need to survive. Add some author relevant details - he's from Texas but he lives in Boston now, he had a daughter who died (relevant to the plot, which is him adopting a "new" daughter), and he is former military and a blue-collar worker who therefore has the skills to survive in this setting, and you've got a pretty solid character that people grasp and people love right away, especially the more humanizing moments you throw in there, like the moment we see him break down when his daughter dies.
It should also be remembered: passion is what is needed here. You don't pick a trope you hate unless you're setting out to subvert it. You pick details that you care about and that you want to write about. Everything needs to be things you authentically care about writing and innovating on because you're gonna spend a lot of time with this story, more than anyone else. But the idea that one needs to start whole cloth, rather than focusing on the tropes, stories, archetypes, and personal experience that you care about, is utter nonsense and in fact does not actually sell.

I've a doubt. In the comments every US army saying they nor locals care about artist's sexuality and queer concept they put out. Make sense as there are multiple queer artists who are so successful in west. Whole world was singing 'unholy' by a non binary person lol. If it's catchy enough not even conservative country fans gives af about artist sexuality or gender imo. So how this narrative of JK chose het image to enter western market make sense ? He could get exactly the same results by staying to his authentic self isn't it ? Isn't it just a narrative made by shippers to convince themselves that he's still queer even if he's doing het songs to keep their ship floating? 🤔🤔 I really don't have a problem if he was queer but any excuses given doesn't make sense regarding his choices. Atp the only sensible explanation I can think of is that he's het, it's his choice to portray himself in this concept, it's him choosing to sing about het sex back to back, he agreed to having female lead actress in all his chapter 2 mvs. He kinda confirmed it by saying it wants to show different sides of HIMSELF. So maybe that's what it is.. simple 🤷‍♀️
I’m tired of explaining myself. This is the last ask I’m going to answer of this kind because y’all don’t read my other responses, and these asks are boring.
Idk what planet you are on but Unholy was not well received by any means. Sam Smith was hated on for the outfit they chose to perform in, and these accepting Christian conservatives that you claim will listen to anything hated the song, hated Sam’s peformance, thought it was devil music, hated Kim Petras because she’s a trans woman, and only deemed it acceptable when they could change their lyrics to fit around the god they believe in.
Sex still sells period. And specifically heterosexual sex. Fans do care. The market does care. The majority of major songs if they are about sex are hetereosexual sex.
Jungkook didn’t “choose” this image. Pay attention to what he has said about this album and what Bang PD said too. It almost didn’t happen. Jungkook had nothing written and no inspiration. He needed to release a solo album for chapter 2 so he and Bang PD shopped for songs. Songs in English from 🛴. Those are the facts. He’s portraying the image that fits those songs and the western market. If the songs are hetero, he has the look with his muscles and tattoos to pull it off. This has nothing to do with shipping. I’m not creating a narrative because I don’t want to accept JK being hetero because doing his job shows nothing about his sexuality. I’ve been screaming since this started that singing songs with “girl” and “she” does not change someone’s queer sexuality.
The biggest issue I have with this ask and what I always have with these asks is WHAT CHOICE DOES JUNGKOOK HAVE. Seriously. If he is a queer artist, he is Korean. He lives in a very homophobic country (re their inhumane military laws) He doesn’t have the freedom to go all Sam Smith and Troye Sivan in his music even if he is making English songs for the Western Market. Did you even see Troye’s music video for One of Your Girls?!?! You are acting like Jungkook could dress in drag and give a man a lap dance if he wanted to but because he isn’t that means he doesn’t want to. How damn ignorant can you be. He’s Korean and they are paying attention to his music too!! Jimin couldn’t even have his male dancers touching him for Like Crazy when he performed at any of his Korean stages!!!!!!! WAKE. UP.
It’s so stupid how you can throw away a whole decade of Jungkook showing 0 interest in women but having very blantant sexual tension with his bandmate over the course of his career. But suddenly a song written by a western producer and a female lead in a music video here and there makes him heterosexual? Respectfully, stay the fuck off my blog. Any ask from here on out with this same shit narrative is getting blocked. Let this be your warning.

Your blog is really making me hopeful that Byler will happen, although unfortunately I still don't really trust the chreators to make it happen... I mean, I've been mislead and disappointed so many times - but that wasn't the point of my ask. I sorta wanted to rant, but I am lowkey too scared to make my own post. Here we go: it really REALLY bothers me how so many of the milkvan shippers are super homophobic while "defending" their ship/attacking byler and/or byler shippers. You can really see this while scrolling the milkvan tag (biggest mistake I made, ever).
Also what I saw was so many of them claiming bylers don't care about Mike, or if Eleven gets her heart broken, etc. etc., that bylers only care about "their gay noncanon ship". It's so ridiculous that it almost makes me laugh because a LOT of the milkvan shippers (before anyone gets mad, of course not all of them) are the ones who don't give a shit about the plot, the individual characters or really any other aspect of the show that doesn't have to do with milkvan. So many of them reduce El and Mike only to each other's love interests, as if there is nothing else there. A lot of the byler shippers get these characters as individuals and think of them individually. I also saw many ppl on the milkvan tag claim bylers don't care specifically about Mike AT ALL, only as Will's love interest. What??? I really haven't seen many of these byler shippers around. And... as if many of the milkvans don't do the same exact thing. They literally do not care about Mike, or El, or anyone. Or anything that happens in the show. It's so hypocritical.
Sorry this is so incoherent, I am tired and having trouble gathering my thoughts together. Also, absolutely no pressure to answer this! I am sure many of these things have been said before.
Hi! I'm so happy that my blog has been a positive experience for you! That being said, I completely understand not having full confidence, because I know that queerbaiting is a huge issue in media, and I've experienced that pain as well *coughs* destiel *coughs*
It really is a problem that people have started to use their ship as an excuse to be homophobic. I've seen it happen a few times in my ask box and it's always really disturbing to me how much hatred these people have towards Will just because he's "getting in the way" of their ship. Like weird ass, did you even watch this season? He single-handedly saved the bones of Mordecai and the Rigbys that remains after all the lies and gaslighting. If anything, they should be thanking Will.
I also think it's super weird that people assume that we hate Mike, because personally, Mike is my favorite character. I love how layered he is and there's something about the progression of his character that really resonates with me. But seriously, why would we ship Mike with Will if we didn't like Mike? I think some people are under the impression that we only ship Byler because the ship itself is gay, which I take a bit of issue with because they make it seem like we're making shit up just to make it gay. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy ships like Steddie or Ronance, and I think they're cute and have a certain amount of chemistry, but those ships, while fun, don't hold the same weight as Byler, and I feel like people are kind of lumping Byler in with that category even though we have much more substantial evidence that something could really happen here. But Byler aside for a second, even if I wasn't for Byler, at this point, I still wouldn't be for Monstrosity because their relationship is plain unhealthy and imbalanced.
I would agree though, I've seen a lot more Mannequin shippers say stuff about them hating Mike and loving El than I've seen Byler shippers say anything negative about Mike (other than in an affectionate or joking way). It's honestly weird bc why would you want El with Mike if you don't like Mike?? Make it make sense.

Doesn’t it get tiring to constantly think that Tae and JK are lying when it comes to each other? He could’ve said yes to Tae coming to see him because he said yes about two other people, plus Jin already being there, so it wouldn’t have been strange for Tae to have visited at all…
Do people not realise how damaging shipping has become that the members’ actions get misinterpreted because of the narratives built by shippers? Vminkook constantly accused of being queerbaiters because of shippers’ narratives.
The things people are saying about Tae right now should open all shippers’ eyes to the fact that they’re doing more harm than good by actively promoting this idea that any of the members might be together. (And I’m not talking about the regular shippers who read their little fanfics and go about their day, but the self-titled “supporters”.)
Does it get tiring to constantly think Tae and JK are lying about each other?  No, because I don't think that at all.  What I do think is that if they were dating, they would have to hide that fact, and doing so would most probably result in some falsehoods.  I also just have a pet peeve in general about people assuming the members never lie or fib or stretch the truth when that's demonstrably untrue, so I can get a little snarky on that topic, I'll admit.
What does get kind of tiring is being accused of things that happen in the reverse all the time.
For example, you're saying that I constantly think Tae and JK are lying about each other because I pointed out that if they wanted to hide the fact that they'd been together on a certain day, they could simply say otherwise.  But people (maybe not you specifically, I won't try to claim any of this is true of you since I don't know who you are) also, in my opinion, blatantly ignore and dismiss things that the members show us about themselves all the time, because those things don't fit the image that they have of the members in their heads.
Doing so, in my opinion, often perpetuate heteronormativity, at best, and queerphobia at worst.  I'd argue that that's significantly more harmful than assuming that the members probably all obscure things about their personal lives sometimes.
Maybe it is objectively better to take a middle-of-the-road, moderate approach and just assume that they're close friends, but as I say all the time, all we can really do is make our own observations and interpret them through our own lenses.  I don't want to take what's happening and twist it to fit my own narrative, but that's not the same as recognizing that there are multiple possibilities.
In this particular case, I could go either way on it, but that was never really my point.
My post wasn't meant to be saying that Jungkook was definitely lying about Taehyung not visiting him for his birthday.  My point was just that this one little thing -- whether it's the full truth or not, whether it's more complicated or not -- isn't enough to undo years' worth of interactions I've seen that have made me think that maybe Taehyung and Jungkook are in a relationship.
As for shipping being damaging because it leads to the members' actions being misinterpreted, that's a two way street.  The fact of the matter is, there are really only interpretations here.  We don't know the Truth, so we can't know what's a misinterpretation vs. what's not.  It could very well be that I'm misinterpreting things, but on the other hand, it could be you who's misinterpreting.
I see Jungkook's and Taehyung's interactions and interpret them as being a bit more intimate and romance-coded than most people's, which makes me think maybe they're romantically involved.  You don't see that, but you could just be missing things, or looking at them with your own biased thinking and coming to a different conclusion.  That’s all they are, ultimately: different conclusions.
There are toxic people in every subset of this fandom, so in terms of doing more harm than good, I feel like it makes more sense to lay the blame for that on the individuals who are doing and saying shitty things, rather than on the idea of shipping or "supporting" itself.
It's not that deep, you know?  At the end of the day, I just happen to think Taehyung and Jungkook might be dating.  It's really that simple.  Is there harm in thinking that?  Maybe you feel that way, and you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree.  I just think they're sweet together, and I like to splash around in my little corner of the internet to talk about it.  That's it.

Okay, I've seen this post and it is absolutely ridiculous. So I had to make this giga post of my own.
Tumblr media
I will address this. Yelena's creator has recently said the character is not aro and that that's a headcanon made by fans and talked about her sexuality and they are STILL denying that and trying to convince people that she is??
It is one thing y'all have a headcanon, no matter what said hc is, and it is beautiful. But saying these lies and sh*t? Please, I've read the comics, watched the movie and watched Hawkeye. Where is she suppose to be aro there, like this post claims?
In that ambiguous panel of the comic they always refer to, the one Devin Grayson confirmed in the past to have (as anyone who'd read the comics would notice) "many interpretations"?
Or was it when Devin used the word "aro" and later she admitted she used it thinking the word had a different meaning (they always choose to ignore all Graysons messages after this, because they deny what they want) and that she viewed Yelena more as an ace woman attracted by women?
Tumblr media
Or was it last week when she shared a publication on her twitter referring as several headcanons (and she literally says the word "headcanon") to talk about these fans who would like Yelena to be aro and other headcanons to state Yelena still hasn't a specific sexuality not in the comics and not in MCU? (Plus she also answered this individually).
Tumblr media
Tell me again exactly where it is that Yelena was developed as aro and why do you ignore Devin Grayson's (her literal creator) words when she's been asked about it. (There are several screenshots. Yes, after the one where she used that word wrong and then admitted it and clarified it. But they always ignore the rest). Thing she'll regret all her life, based on the last conversations with her where she says she's tired of having to explain this this month so many times and tired of watching people fight for this (at the bottom you can see she is tired of clarifying that as for now it is up to every fan to have any interpretation about her. I don't know how to make it clearer than this. She doesn't know how to do this anymore either):
Tumblr media
I'm ace so don't even try to play victim with me, your sexual orientation doesn't excuse lying. What pisses me the most is that you ignore the character creators words when she's been asked repeatedly this month about this issue. She's given a clear answer (that Yelena being aro is a headcanon and she has not an established sexuality, therefore any interpretation of the fans about her is absolutely valid) and you still LIE to people and tell them "she is aro, it is canon" to invalidate their headcanons and their ways of being happy?? By making shit up and ignoring Grayson?? That's not fucking it people. That's being a liar, that will not get you what you want to achieve, that is not the way. And it will only bring you hate from half the fandom, at least. Be respectful and honest with others if you want them to be like that with you.
If someone needs a good post to read about this, explained with better manners, very well documented, thorough and detailed about this (panels from the comic, sticking to the canon, things said by Grayson, etc) here you go:
https://adamantwench.tumblr.com/post/672039357775069184/yelena-is-aroace-why-is-it-so-hard-for-you-to
If you want to see Devin Grayson literally addressing this issue this last month, here you go too (with screenshots):
https://adamantwench.tumblr.com/post/671481730904047616/take-a-moment-to-read-this-and-ship-and-let-ship
I don't want to hear about this anymore. I know I will and other people will too, sadly. And we'll clarify it again and again (although it is not something that needs to be clarified. But you keep lying to people and some of them believe those lies. So, we won't stop telling the truth either. I guess that sucks. As I said, getting validation does not condone lying, that is not the way to achieve anything. It's only the way to give you bad reputation and hate from the community).

Hey Kaz,
I’m really sorry people are still being assholes to you… you really don’t deserve that for just sharing your own opinions. You’re entitled to what you believe and if they don’t like something, they really shouldn’t be interacting with it at all.
In my opinion, you have some fantastic criticisms of Fairy Tail and it’s fandom. While I don’t agree with some things, I do respect everything you have to say, and I think it’s interesting to see different takes on the same media. I can tell that your opinions come from a place of genuine love for this series so I don’t think it’s cool how far people are taking this. Your opinions are valid because they’re yours, and I want to encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing. If other people keep being childish and close minded, then they’re the ones in the wrong, not you.
I hope you have a good day, and take care of yourself.
Oh, thank you for the kind words! This is really sweet <3
Normally this kind of stuff doesn't really get to me (and when it first started happening I thought it was funny to be honest, because everything they were doing/saying was just so ridiculous).
But at this point it's been literal months, and any time I attempted to go into tags (whether the general fandom tag, or a specific character's tag, or what have you), I'd see at least a couple posts complaining about someone very specific, and it was just so tiring to have to sit there and think, Is this about me? It looks like it's probably about me. I don't even know who this person is, but they're talking about how awful I am over things I didn't even say. Sometimes I'm sure it wasn't about me, but you know how the brain gets sometimes. And seeing that kind of stuff so often, when you're just trying to engage with something you like does get to you after a while, no matter how thick your skin is.
And yeah... I haven't actually engaged with any of these people since the end of December? Beginning of January? Idk... but they're still posting about me, and every time I stumble across one what they're saying about me is even worse/they're claiming I said more awful things when I... haven't even interacted with them. They'll be making posts about other posts I've made that have literally nothing to do with what happened, or even the characters and ships they originally got mad over.
It just... yeah, it sucks after awhile.
But thank you for this, and I'm hoping after blocking literally like half the fucking fandom that will have fixed some of it at least haha

I know the twitter account who posted that tweet of naruto rivalries and tbh from most of their tweets i don't think they believe that sns is comparable to sakuino either (i remember they've stated it in some tweet as well) it just seems like a joke/light-hearted tweet to me
Tbh i dont think its fair to compare the views of twitter sns stans with tumblr sns stans' views since most sns stans on twitter have to be very very careful about what they do or say to ensure that they aren't subjected to the daily harassment sns shippers have to face from sasusaku shippers on there so i won't be surprised if half of them dont say what they actually believe in
Tweets like that are something which is appropriate for the current naruto twitter climate where its better to show how naruto and sasuke were one of the "accidentally gay rivalries" created by kishimoto so that they can enjoy talking about sns without being branded as "crazy conspiracy theorists fujoshi fetishizers" by the sasusaku freaks on there who always go apeshit crazy when anyone dares to say that kishimoto intentionally made them gay
Like im not even exaggerating twitter sasusakus are on a whole next level of disgusting and pathetic they keep calling sns shippers "incest/soul brothers shippers", make monthly tweet threads about how "sasuke and naruto are brothers" where they cite multiple interviews of kishimoto calling sns brothers, commonly send death threats and suicide bait sns shippers (i remember how one of them replied with a "instructions on how to hang yourself" image chart to a sns shipper during an argument), have asked a sns shipper with intrusive thoughts to end their life even AFTER they kept telling them to not do it, have made islamphobic comments n called muslim sns shippers terrorists, pretended to be poc and made fun of black sns shippers appearance, and all this is something that has happened in last THREE months alone
And don't even get me started on how they constantly police what sns shippers do or say and try their hardest to paint them as problematic, ss shippers on twitter keep reaching hard to act like every non mlm person who writes/consumes sexual content of sns is automatically fetishizing mlm, many of them believe that liking sns itself is fetishization of mlm, many if them attack sns fans when they even joke about sasuke and naruto liking each other more than their wives by accusing them of "pushing their cheating headcanons which is wrong", act like sns shippers who dislike sakura are automatically misogynistic etc etc
Alot of sns shippers accounts are constantly stalked and monitored by some or the other ss shipper bc there have been so many instances where some sns fan tweeted just some harmless negative OPINION about sakura or sasuke and their comments and quote tweets were filled with ss shippers harrassing them within less than an hour
Honestly, its pretty fucking hard and tiring to be a sns fan on twitter so im glad and surprised that there still are many sns fans there which is why i never bother correcting any sns fan who claims that kishimoto "accidentally" made sns gay or compare sns with mediocre ships like sakuino n kakaobi or display any other wrong opinion since i personally know MANY twitter sns fans who dislike sakura but pretend to like her just so they dont get harrassed by the rabid ss and sakura stans on there
Anyways, really sorry for this essay length ask I've been wanting to discuss the twitter sns and ss fandom with u for a long time and seemed like a good opportunity to do so
I see. I understand, I know twitter sasusaku shippers are absolutely crazy and gross. To be honest when I post about it I mostly want to make it clear what my own stance is. But honestly many sns shippers on tumblr say the same about "accidental gay" and also like sakuino. Actually I recently talked with someone who asked why do so many sns like that ship (and she is only on tumblr) since she dislikes it. There are also general shonen fans who claim this is something that happens often in shonen which is in my opinion a bad take.
It must be hard for ss shippers on twitter when everyone (including casuals) make fun of their ship and call Naruto and Sasuke gay. Not that I feel even slightly sorry for them, they are the worst ship fandom I've come across. Everything you said and my own experiences with them, they are just terrible. Also I have experienced ss on tumblr too who have claimed to be "bi" or "part of the lgbtq+" before only for them to end up doing or saying something homophobic afterwards that didn't even have to do with them hating sns. So I never believe them when they claim to be something. I once got an anon telling me to not generalize ss but how can I not when their fandom is terrorizing people constantly? They are a mob.
Also Sakura is embarrassing, these twitter anime feminists need to get real and stop acting like hating Sakura is some conspiracy. It's what to be expected.
Anyway if you want to talk more you can send another ask.

I've known of BTS for many years, since probably 2014. Only really became a huge fan this year due to Run episodes. Big fanbase = tons of toxic fans. There's toxic fans for every group/singer but more with bigger fanbases obviously. There is a line between being protective of the boys and being bullies, using sheer numbers to insult, harass, and threaten someone. Many cross that line and often for no reason. I don't even need to give examples because this is behavior all armys would have seen on Twitter or YouTube. I'll give one anyway. Account with 16k followers harassing a Seventeen fan for not agreeing that jimin is the best dancer. What an unforgivable insult....wow! 🙄 It gets worse because the Seventeen fan even complimented jimin first before stating her opinion that she thinks Seventeen are better. Was that really necessary?
Transitioning to another point. I've long been aware of the bullying behaviors, so when I became a real fan of the boys, it came as no surprise to see that it didn't extend to just "non-armys" but from one group of army to another. This is why I don't interact with fans anywhere, I don't want to deal with these people. Just enjoy the music and content the boys give us. However, one of the only reasonable fans and translators I found @/gogoparkjimin on Twitter was targeted by a V blocking account, also with 16.5k followers. And now their account is deactivated. The claim is that she/they (I don't recall what their pronouns are sorry) hates Taehyung and Taekook which is just ridiculous. She literally posted a cute moment between Tae and JK just hours before the deactivation. She literally called out a jimin fan for being disrespectful to Tae hours before deactivation. She's one of the few fans I've found that consistently support all members even though her bias is jimin and she supports Jikook. I trust her translations as she's corrected both Jikook and Taekook trans that others have done. Who debunks cute moments of their own ship? That's admirable. What did she do wrong? Consistently calling out the double standards that are applied to jimin, calling out the despicable behavior fans exhibit to jimin and how she thinks it seems that only jimin fans defend him? Speaking of, if you know any other reliable translators please lmk.
The fact that her account was deactivated and that she was targeted by a huge account for no reason made me feel like saying something about the situation. And what do you know? A random fan comes to harass and bully me. Me with 3 followers only. Of course they are a V stan. Of course they were bullying me when I didn't even say anything rude or deserving of the abuse. Of course having a civil interaction is beyond their capabilities. These fake armys need to leave and stop making the fandom a toxic cesspool. I'm a GOT7 fan as well and though the fanbase isn't as huge, I had a better fan experience there than here. It was easier to engage with other like-minded fans and just enjoy ourselves.
And while I'm here might as well throw in my thoughts from a while back. It was written when I was clearly upset but the points raised still stand.
Tumblr media
It's been a disappointing and tiring time lately.
