Animal of the Day!
Euphrates Softshell Turtle (Rafetus euphraticus)
(Photo from Tehran Times)
Conservation Status- Endangered
Habitat- Euphrates-Tigris river
Size (Weight/Length)- 20 kg; 70 cm
Diet- Crustaceans; Plants; Insects; Fish; Birds
Cool Facts- Despite not being able to see very well at night, the Euphrates softshell turtle is one of the few river turtles to be active equally during day and night. Generally thought to be a carnivore, this turtle is opportunistic and often targets fishermen’s nets for an easy snack. They are also known to climb onto the bank to eat animal carcasses. However, they occasionally leave the river to seek out crops like tomatoes and watermelon for some sugar. Sadly, the Euphrates softshell turtle is endangered due to habitat loss, pollution, and poaching. Dams have destroyed the slow moving, warm water that they need to survive. Luckily, these turtles have very hearty eggs that can survive in human disturbed habitats.
Rating- 12/10 (Flattened like the finest of pancakes.)

The daily format really makes Seward's "it seems like only yesterday" more dramatic. It very much was not yesterday. You gotta leave the asylum more, call up Quincey for a boys' night or something. it's time to heal
