Three cercolons. Literally translates to "big circles", cercolons are decorative wall plates and a specialty of Andalusia. These are ceramic and hand-painted. The first two depict the Temple menorah (with seven branches), one in various shades of blue and one in a variety of colors. The other depicts a Magen David lined with leaves and flowers.
All of the golden-colored edging and accents are 24-carat gold. The flowers and decorative edgework are examples of cuerda seca (dry cord), a technique for painting tiles and ceramics which dates to the period of Arabic colonization of Spain.

ALTERNATIVE JUDAICA: GOTH JEW, HAIL SHEYDIM, Death Hamsa & Life Pomegranate
don’t let Catholic goths have all the fun - Jewish children of the night deserve our own black roses! the Hebrew text featured on GOTH JEW includes a quote from Lamentations, “he has made me dwell in darkness, like those long dead,” & from the Talmud tractate Berachot 32b, “the gates of tears were not locked.” the Hebrew on the hamsa sticker says “death” & the pomegranate reads “life.”
all designs are available on Redbubble, holo stickers via Etsy

Is it too cheesy to think of your Magen David as a shield to the point that when you wear it you feel safe, like you're wearing armor? asking for a friend

whats ur opinion on goyim wearing the star of david necklaces
uhh, it's a jewish symbol. it would be like if you wore any other religious or ethnic symbol as someone who's not a member of that religion/ethnicity.
like imagine randomly wearing a cross as an atheist, sure it's a bad example cuz a lot of people do that for the aesthetic, but still you'd get confused for a Christian.
a Magen David isn't a political symbol, it's not a sign of allyship, it's a Jewish symbol. at least that's my opinion.

Thinking about how in Hebrew, the Star of David is called Magen David, which means Shield of David, because of the legend that it was the symbol on King David's shield.
But who was the real shield in David's life? The one who would constantly try to protect him from King Shaul and his army, who put his life and honour on the line defending him multiple times?
Yonatan.
The Magen David is Yonatan.
Yonatan gave David his weapons when he fell in love with him, but not his shield. Why would that be? Maybe it's because Yonatan was his shield.
When David sings a surge lamenting the deaths of Shaul and Yonatan, there's a line that goes as such:
"Behold in Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain upon you, or bountiful fields; for there the shield of warriors, the shield of Shaul were rejected, no longer anointed with oil."
It's interesting that Yonatan isn't mentioned in this stanza, but Shaul is.
But upon analysis of the context....David was a poet.
He wouldn't have to mention a person by name in order to mention them.
What if the "shield of warriors" wasn't a physical shield, but Yonatan?
David and Shaul were both warriors, Yonatan never was. He gave away his weapons to David, he was skilled with the bow but the only time we see him use it is to send a coded signal to David. Yonatan was called weak by his father for his lack of aggression- he was always the defender and never the offender.
Yonatan is the shield.
Perhaps when we wear our Magen David necklaces, or embroider and carve them into our Judaica, we are wearing a symbol of Yonatan- a man who chose love over war.

I don't know if it's appropriate for me to wear it yet (I don't even have a rabbi to talk to as there are no synagogues near me) but, regardless, my mother giving it to me is special to me 💛

I just finished this commission for a Progress Pride Flag/Gilbert Baker Flag mashup in the form of a knitted Magen David garland.
The stars are all 100% wool, and the connecting cord is 100% cotton. Each star is about 5.5 inches across.
If you want to order something similar, they're $12 each for single colour, or $10 a piece for orders of more than one*. Multicolour Stars of David are $15 for one, $12 each for orders of more than one. There is no additional charge for adding a hanging loop, or stringing them onto a garland.
Shipping and handling is typically $5 in the USA for small things (ie: things that fit in a manila envelope), though will cost more for a larger garland or an order with more than about 3 small items. Shipping outside the USA costs extra, and requires individual estimates from the post office. Message me with any questions, or to make a purchase!
*as always, if you order any 2 or more items from me at a time, you get a free watercolour bookmark!
